JSF Renderer encoding html link to call bean

I have custom renderer. I would like to write out links in the same that when clicked will call a backing mean method.
For example, suppose the backing bean method has a method foo(), I would like to be able to call that in my decode method and make it forward to a jsp. How can I accomplish this?
Thanks in advance

Thank you for reply, after making few chages by taking your suggestion i am still struggling to get the desired result in my jsp. please into the code below
public class Database {
        public List calToDatabase;
     public static void initialCalToList()
          System.out.println("Contents in the List#########");
          List al=new ArrayList();
          al.add("JAya");
          al.add("chandra");
          al.add("raheem");
          al.add("balu");
          System.out.println("Contents in the List"+al);
          Database db= new Database();
          db.setCalToDatabase(al);  // calling the setter with list as an argument
public List getCalToDatabase() {
          return calToDatabase;
     public void setCalToDatabase(List calToDatabase) {
          this.calToDatabase = calToDatabase;
     }I have also made changes in success.jsp

  • JSF renders invalid HTML code?

    Hi
    I'm new to JSF, but I know JSTL well. I'm trying to modify an existing JSF application, but there's one thing I don't understand: Since there can only be one <f:view> in the page, it must contain both the HTML <head> and <body>.
    Now, when I look at the rendered HTML code, I see something like this:
        </body>
      <form id="linkDummyForm" name="linkDummyForm" style="display:inline" method="post" action="/srclient/faces/jsp/start.jsp"><input type="hidden" name="jsf_tree_64" id="jsf_tree_64" value="H4sIAAAAAAAAA  (etc. etc.)
    </form>
    </html>This is clearly invalid HTML code. Is there a way to change the way that f:view is rendered?
    Btw, I'm using MyFaces.
    Thanks for any help!

    Any update on above issue, its urgent.

  • How to use the html:link with a arraylist

    Hi everyone:
    I want to display the data using struts html:link.
    I query the database and place all the data to javabean,later place all the javabean to ArrayList.In Action,I use the "request.setAttribute("lovetable",articlelist) to set request to jsp page.
    I want to pass a parameter "id" use the hyperlink so I can get the parameter when I click the hyperlink.
    But how to use html:link to display it?
    I use <html:link action="viewtopic.do" paramId="id" paramName="lovetable" paramProperty="id"/>,it can't work and Tomcat report error :
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: No getter method for property id of bean lovetable
         at org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServletWrapper.service(JspServletWrapper.java:248)
         at org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet.serviceJspFile(JspServlet.java:295)
         at org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet.service(JspServlet.java:241)
    The lovetable is a ArrayList and it don't have a getter or setter method.
    How to use it pass parameter? :( Thks

    Thank you.
    I use the bean:define successful.And display all the data to jsp.My jsp code is:
    <logic:iterate id="love" name="lovetable">
    <bean:define id="idbean" name="love"/>
    <tr bgcolor="<%=color%>">
    <td><bean:write name="love" property="id"/></td>
    <td><html:link forward="viewtopic" paramId="id" paramName="idbean" paramProperty="id"><bean:write name="love" property="title"/></html:link></td>
    <td><bean:write name="love" property="name"/></td>
    <td><bean:write name="love" property="time"/></td>
    </tr>
    </logic:iterate>
    In Action : request.setAttribute("lovetable",articlelist)
    ResutlSet rs=.............
    List articlelist=new ArrayList();
    while(rs.next()){
    articlebean bean=new articlebean();
    bean.setName(rs.getString("name"));
    bean.setTitle(rs.getString("title"));
    articlelist.add(bean);
    The above code will work property.
    The Tag "html:link" need bean to work other than arraylist so I iterate all the bean out.
    The Tag "logic:iterate" need collection to work so I make Action return a List.
    right?
    Any idea? :)

  • JSF 1.2 Rendered decode method not being called

    I've been banging my head about this one, I have a custom component with:
    TagClass
    RendererClass
    ComponentClass
    The encodeBegin is running fine in the renderer class, but the decode method is never being called - and it does properly over ride the super class method:
    public class UIRendererClass extends Renderer {
    public void decode(FacesContext context, UIComponent component) {
    // Do some stuff
    The output always renders correctly - but it never calls the decode method (which updates some other page components), proved with logging and forced exceptions.
    I'm using SJAS 9.0 FCS and Facelets 1.1.11, anybody any ideas?

    Hi,
    I can't use my own components with JSF 1.2 and facelets and Tomcat 5.0.28, so I will be very grateful if you can send to a small working example (i.e. project) of using custom components.
    Thanks in advance

  • Using rendered= stops action method being called on commandButton

    Help help help please.
    I have a managed-bean defined at "request" scope. This bean contains an encodedId field which is a string. This string is present in the form as a hidden field. On submit of the form, this setEncodedId is called on my bean, which then decodes the string and does setup of the bean.
    The problem I have is that if I use a commandButton with rendered="#{MyBean.renderNextButton}" and the result of isRenderNextButton() is dependent on encodedId from the submit, then the button IS correctly rendered, but the action tied to the button fails to be called and the same page reloads when the button is clicked.
    However, if I hardcode 'true' as the return value of isRenderNextButton() then the button renders and the action is called correctly.
    I've also noticed that isRenderNextButton() is called four or more times on each submit even through I've only got one button using this rendered expression.
    Any ideas anyone?

    Without spending lots of time investigating, could I
    write my own implementation of commandButton that
    could have the render state encoded in the state
    information I see encoded in the form?I can't understand the reason why you insist to hold the information in the component,
    while the only you should do is to use a session scope bean to hold it using the standard JSF mechanism.

  • Report with select list and link to call another report

    Hi,
    I am trying to do 2 reports (REPORT1 and REPORT2).
    The first is a summary report (REPORT1).
    This report will display sales figures for the year. Now, I need to have a select list in the result set that will have 2 options, depending on which option is chosen, I want to call REPORT2 with the select list as a parameter. How can I do this ?
    Let me try to explain what I did.
    I created REPORT1 on Page 100
    SELECT YEAR, sum(YTD_SALES), APEX_ITEM.SELECT_LIST(1,'DEPARTMENT','Department;DEPARTMENT,Division;DIVISION') Drilldown FROM SALES_ANALYSIS WHERE YEAR > 2000
    GROUP BY YEAR ORDER BY YEAR
    I created 2 hidden items namely P100_YEAR and P100_DRILLDOWN
    I also made the column YEAR as a link and specified both P100_YEAR and P100_DRILLDOWN as parameters to be passed.
    Next, I created REPORT2
    SELECT YEAR, DECODE(:P100_DRILLDOWN, 'Department', department, 'Division', Division) dept_div, sum(YTD_SALES) ytd_sales
    FROM SALES_ANALYSIS
    WHERE YEAR = :P100_YEAR
    When I run Report 1, it's fine, when I choose either Department or Division from the Select List and click on the link to call Report 2, report 2 is displayed, but the value being passed for P100_DRILLDOWN is not correct and as a result, I am unable to get correct results for Report 2
    Am I missing something ? Are there any alternate ways to do what I'm doing ?
    Thanks,
    Ashok

    Hi Ashok,
    The link definition will not know the value selected in the list as it is constructed only when the page is being rendered. You would need to create some javascript to handle this. I've done that here: [http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=267:182]
    The link on the EMPNO column has been defined in the HTML Expression setting for the column instead of the Link section. The HTML Expression that I have used is:
    &lt;a href="#" onclick="javascript:doDrilldown('#EMPNO#',this);"&gt;#EMPNO#&lt;/a&gt;And, in the page's HTML Header setting, I have added in:
    &lt;script type="text/javascript"&gt;
    function doDrilldown(empno,group)
    var g;
    var p = group.parentNode;
    while (p.tagName != "TR")
      p = p.parentNode;
    var x = p.getElementsByTagName("SELECT");
    if (x.length &gt; 0)
      g = x[0].value;
    var url = "f?p=&APP_ID.:183:&SESSION.::::P183_EMPNO,P183_GROUP:" + empno + "," + g;
    document.location.href = url;
    &lt;/script&gt;When a link is clicked, the doDrilldown function is called passing in the EMPNO value and the "this" object (which identifies the object triggering the call). The function starts from that object and goes up in the HTML tag tree to the nearest TR tag (the row tag that the link is on) and then finds the first SELECT list item on the row and gets its value. It then constructs a URL using this and the EMPNO value and performs a redirect to the second page (page 183 in this example).

  • Html:link not working in struts project driving me mad, please help...

    Afternoon all,
    Can anyone help me with an issue I'm having with my first struts project, I'm learning as I go.
    Anyway, I'm trying to create a bog standard hypertext link which passes a value back to a specified struts action. The flow of the application
    is as follows:
    1) search.jsp
    User enters a name and postcode to search on, then click submit
    2) searchAction
    Struts action 'search' is called and does the search in a back-end db.
    Each result found from search is created as a javabean (named resultsBean), and added to a list object. The list object is set as a request
    attribute named 'SearchResults'.
    The action is then forwarded on to another jsp page named results.jsp
    3) results.jsp
    The results.jsp page retrieves the list object from the 'SearchResults' attribute and loops through each entry
    in the list and converts each entry to the 'resultsBean' javabean object.
    Each resultsBean object has a getVirtualID method which stores a string value. This value is retrieved and a hypertext link is created which
    passes this value on to another struts action named 'select'.
    When this link is clicked on, the select struts action is called and the value passed as a parameter is retrieved.
    This is the part I can't get to work, I can't get the link to render properly. When I click the link the select action retrieves
    & lt;%= resultsBean.getVirtualID() & gt; as the value of the parameter 'vid' instead of the value stored in the getVirtualID method of the resultsBean.
    Listed below is the code from my results.jsp page. If anyone can help me get this to work I would be very grateful.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex
    results.jsp code
    <%
       List searchResults = (List)portletRequest.getPortletSession().getAttribute("SearchResults");

           ResultsBean resultsBean = new ResultsBean();
           while (it.hasNext()) {
                resultsBean = (ResultsBean)it.next(); %>
            <div id="row" style="padding: 5px 0px 10px 0px;">
              <div id="column" style="width: 155px;"><html:link styleClass="results"  page="/select.do?vid='<%= resultsBean.getVirtualId() %>'" title="<%= resultsBean.getFullName() %>"><%= resultsBean.getFullName() %></html:link></div>
              <div id="column" style="width: 10px;"></div>
              <div id="column" style="width: 130px;"><%= resultsBean.getFullAddress() %></div>
              <div id="column" style="width: 10px;"></div>
              <div id="column" align="right" style="width: 120px;"><%= resultsBean.getReferenceIcons(portletResponse) %></div>
              <div id="column" style="width: 13px;"></div>
              <div id="column" style="width: 22px;"><input id="<%= resultsBean.getVirtualId() %>" name="ckbox" type="checkbox" value="" title="tick to select for merging" style="border: 0px solid #ffffff;"></div>
            </div>
    <%     }
       } %>
           </div>
         </div>
      </div>
    </div>
    <br />
    <br />
    <html:link forward="/searchpage">Return to search page</html:link>

    If you have part of an attribute dynamic, you need to make the entire attribute an expression.
    ie instead of
    page="/select.do?vid='<%= resultsBean.getVirtualId() %>'"
    it has to be
    page="<%= "/select.do?vid=" + resultsBean.getVirtualID() %>"
    However for my approach, I would aim for zero scriptlets, and use the struts tags even more. For instance instead of an iterator, use the struts logic:iterate tag (or the JSTL c:forEach>
    Also instead of div tags, I would use html table tags - <table> <tr><td> etc etc. Thats what its for right?
    Here is at least some of it rewritten with struts tags.
    I left out the div tags so I could focus on the "important" stuff.
    <logic:iterate id="resultsBean" name="SearchResults">
      <html:link styleClass="results"  page="/select.do" paramId="vid" paramName = "resultsBean" paramProperty="virtualId">
        <bean:write name="resultsBean" property="fullName"/>
      </html:link>
      <bean:write name="resultsBean" property="fullAddress"/>
    <%= resultsBean.getReferenceIcons(portletResponse) %>
    <input id="<%= resultsBean.getVirtualId() %>" name="ckbox" type="checkbox" value="" title="tick to select for merging" style="border: 0px solid #ffffff;">
    </logic:iterate>I'm not entirely certain what you are doing with that checkbox at the end. They all have the same name, but no value. You couldn't identify at the server end which one was clicked.
    Hope this helps some,

  • Binding an object tag value / Creating HTML via a backing bean

    I have a task flow that sets some properties in my backbean. I've bound the "classid" of an <object> tag to one of these values. However, the first time i load the JSFF page, the object tag isnt created, but if i refresh the page, its loaded correctly.
    This would lead me to believe that the binding isn't being done before the JSFF is rendered, so the question is. Does anyone know how to fix this? and if not, i have thought about creating a backing bean that would add the <object> tag to the page with the bind value, but have no idea how i would go about this.
    Does anyone know of any good tutorials on adding HTML via a backing bean before the page is rendered?

    After further investigation and talking to a colleague, It seems it might not be binding related, since if I print out the bind in a text field, it displays correctly. I think the problem is because I am trying to inject an object tag (hosts a .NET control) into a fragment, but this is never picked up and rendered. Thus, when I do a full page refresh, the object tag is added and all goes well.
    If I attempt to bind/add a ADF Faces component this way, it works correctly.
    Do you know how to inject code for a fragment?, I am very stuck at the moment - don't have that much knowledge on ADF, so any links/help would be appreciated.
    My scenario is this:
    I am using a task flow that has 2 fragments.
    Fragment 1: set properties - has two input fields and a next button which are bound to a bean that saves the input fields
    Fragment 2: display object tag using step ones properties.

  • HTML Link -AS2 fine, AS3 weird behaviour

    Hi Guys, I'm working on a project at the moment, and am
    seeing weird behaviour with the way my swf handles html links
    inside dynamic textboxes. When rendered as a AS2 file, the link
    works on a release as expected. When its inside a AS3 file the link
    will only work if the user right click and chooses 'open in new
    window' was there a change in behaviour how AS3 handles these
    links, or is there now an declaration needed to be made to allow
    these link to have the old behaviour?
    The project calls for xml data and embedded in that is a html
    link. Originally I thought it might have been the way I'd formed
    the xml so I tried with a hardcoded version instead (dynamic
    textbox, add text -> highlight -> add link through properties
    tab). But I still see the same behaviour between the as2 and as3
    versions.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.

    Actually, the ''href'' attribute is supposed to direct the browser to a new URL, etc., not run a script. Instead, use the ''onclick'' event attribute:
    ''<a onclick = “$('.div-feedback').fadeIn();”></a>''.
    Happy coding!

    I am sure that this is something simple and small but I have been banging my head against this problem for a while now.

    <html:link action="myStrutsAction" paramId="user" paramName="userName"/>if the userName attribute had the value "Bob" that would produce:

  • JSF 2.0 commandLink link, outputLink, etc

    I have a paragraph like below
    Nowis the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. If
    they don'e it could be the end of us
    I want to put a command link in this paragraph for say "good men" so it looks like this
    Nowis the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. If
    they don'e it could be the end of us
    When I use the <h:commandLink action="#{mybean.clickLink}" value="good men"/>, the link works just fine, but renders like this on the page
    Nowis the time for all
    good men
    to come to the aid of their country. If they don'e it could be the end of us
    Is there anyway to keep the <tr></tr> from rendering around the link when it's turned into HTML? Is there another tag that will still let me use action="#{mybean.clickLink}"???? This link MUST go back through the server.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    I found the problem and a solution :-) The missing piece of the puzzle was the id attribute for the form tag. After some debugging of the JSF JavaScript I found the solution.
    The JavaScript function response(request, context) is invoked to handle the server response. Inside this function the doUpdate(element, context) is invoked.
    The doUpdate() function is doing the modification of the DOM. The function doUpdate() is two times invoked for a response. The first time the html elements are updated.
    The second time the view state hidden field is updated or created but only under the following condition:
    Comment in the JavaScript source code of the jsf.js
    //Now set the view state from the server into the DOM
    //but only for the form that submitted the request.If the forms of the both side haven't the same id the form can't be found on the second page.
    In the following way it is working:
    page1.xhtml
    <h:form id="myform">
            <h:commandLink value="Go to page 2" action="page2">
                <f:ajax render="@all" execute="@all"/>
            </h:commandLink>
    </h:form>
    .....page2.xhtml
    <h:form id="myform">
                <h:commandLink value="Go to page 1" action="page1">
                    <f:ajax render="@all" execute="@all"/>
                </h:commandLink>
    </h:form>So always set an explicit id for each JSF tag.

  • Problem with JSF rendered

    Hi,
    I have strange problem in my JSF project. When i use rendered along with <h:commandButton> it is not invoking method specified in action attribute. In following code
    <%@ taglib prefix="h" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"%>
    <h:commandButton
         action="#{myBean.updateMyData}"
         value="EditButton"
         rendered ="#{myBean.buttonClicked == 'edit'}">
    </h:commandButton>
    <h:commandButton
         action="#{myBean.saveMyData}"
         value="SaveButton"
         rendered ="#{myBean.buttonClicked == 'save'}">
    </h:commandButton>
    It is showing proper buttons on jsp pages. i.e. if value of "myBean.buttonClicked" = save , it shows save button else it shows edit button.
    But problem is when i click the button, it is not calling any method.ie. neither "saveMyData" nor "updateMyData".
    Now, if i make use of <t:saveState> of myfaces, it works fine. Following is code after inserting which it works fine.
    <%@ taglib prefix="t" uri="http://myfaces.apache.org/tomahawk"%>
    <t:saveState value="#{myBean}"/>
    Please help me out on this. I dont want to save the state and i want rendered to work fine. Any pointers will be really helpful to me.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

    Hi rlubke,
    Thank you very much for replying. I understood first two work arounds but not clear about third one. i.e "modifying the rendered attribute directly via method calls instead of via expressions" .
    Can you please elaborate this technique?If you can provide some example code then it would be great.
    Thanks,
    vishal

  • Error message during burning: Error during rendering/encoding

    Hello,
    I am using iDVD 6.0.2 to create a DVD. I have pictures and videos. The videos are in .ASF format and they are played on Quicktime on my computer.
    Anyway, when I go to burn the DVD, it goes through the slideshow fine. But then, once it starts videos, it stops and the following error message shows up:
    Encoding Video
    Error during rendering/encoding
    I am using a Memorex DVD-R (8x, 4.7 GB, 120 min video) dvd. Is there any way possible I can fix this problem? I really need this DVD soon. Thank you so much.

    Best Buy and Office Depot carry Verbatim by me. Use only DVD-R, not DVD+R.
    My guess is that .ASF file...........
    Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save as Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
    This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
    There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
    Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
    -->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
    Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • What can I do if all HTML links refresh site instead of redirecting properly (FF only, HTML 1.0 Strict valid, no plugins) just after using autocompleted url?

    I was testing a XHTML 1.0 Strict valid website on my localhost. It had URL "http://localhost/visaita/tictactoe/Web/index.php?item_id=8&game_password=73|55fc84c0c432ad625a901caaa13108aa&chat_code=74|50b3b60c8be203.98819772#.ULO2EnC23XQ". If I click in URL field between 8 and ?. Then pres shift + end and delete the rest of URL, I get a drop down of suggestions. Then I press arrow left in my keyboard - suggestions dissappear. I press enter and my URL is immediately reset to initial one (with all arguments) even though I wanted to delete them. Server receives all the arguments, so this is not the case of a back-end redirection (tested).
    The most interesting effect is that after such refresh ALL HTML LINKS stop working. They refresh page instead of redirecting. Even if I click on a link redirecting to another domain, page still gets refreshed and not redirected. I see it as an obvious and serious bug which happens in very special conditions.
    All FF plugins and add-ons disabled. Tested in safe mode as well. One interesting fact is that this page is opened by a redirect from another page (JavaScript performs redirect), but the page where error happens does not contain any JavaScript redirection code. Error console is also empty.
    During these redirects FireBug (when enabled) displays interesting stuff. It shows that request without arguments is pending infinitely while immediately after it another request is launched with all unwanted arguments.
    Another interesting fact is that page is using late polling AJAX technique (not sure whether it has any impact).
    It seems that it is some caching bug.

    Autocompleted URL does not seem to be related in order to provoke the bug. If I press Esc and then immediately press on links, they all work fine. Without pressing Esc, if long polling is in action, all links redirect the same page. Long polling request happens for no longer that 2 minutes and then there is a 1 second JS delay before the next one. If links are pressed between calls, they work fine.
    The strange thing though is that my friend has prepared a simple script which is generating a long polling request and has a link to Google. This test works, so I am trying to understand whether there is any additional factor which is causing the problem. Perhaps it can be due to having redirects and 2 simultaneous long polling requests at the same time. Doing my best to understand the problem. Not sure what is happening although I am quite sure that problem is caused by the FF browser somehow. Tested everything back and forth.
