JSP Compilation Issue with Tomcat 4.0.6

Hi There,
I've been checking the following issue online for sometime but I just can't seem to figure what is wrong with the server setup. I've this very simple JSP page processing the form variables submitted to an action page which is another JSP page. Thecode segement in the target JSP is like this;
if(request.getParameter("contactUsSubmit")!=null)
}Whenever I try to use request.getParameter("XYZ") in the target page just like above, I get following error from Tomcat;

When I comment the code fragment, it works. It is not about what is in the if statment is true, I can assure you. Consider it as simple output to ease your mind.
Any ideas why this might be happening? I'vve tried the same code with Resin 2.x and Tomcat 5.5 , it works just fine. Do you think there is something missed with the Tomcat setup or the Tomcat version (4.0.6) on that specific server is no good?
Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Hi There,
As you said using equals would not work as it should be a valid String in order for the eqauls function to work.
Unfortuantely I can't access the Servlet created or the log files. It has crossed my mind too but this is a setup by the service provider and they don't let you nose into their business but they ahvedone something wrong with their system as far I can think.
I've wanted to print the output to the web but when i use the request.getParameter it just creates the error.
Java service is provided optional and as any optional service it is not well supported so I need to make them some pointers. So any more ideas?

OCCI compilation issue with gcc-3.2.3 on Red Hat ES 2.1

If I use OCCI of Oracle 10g and try to compile it with gcc-3.2.3 on Red Hat ES 2.1, I get linking errors.
The same works if I try to compile OCCI on Red Hat ES 3.0.
Any clues about how to compile the OCCI on RedHat ES/AS 2.1?

Yes, I downloaded the OCCI for gcc-3.2.3.
As I said it works on Red Hat 3.0.
I want to compile it on Red Hat ES 2.1.
I have installed gcc-3.2.3 on Red Hat ES 2.1. But the occi compilation wont succeed onto it.

JSP compiler issue

I have a JSP based web application that works well when deployed in Tomcat 6. I am trying to deploy it in jboss 4.2.1, everything seems to be ok but when I try to access to a JSP page I have the following error

my JAVA_HOME is set to use a JDK 1.5, but it should work with a JRE as the Tomcat embedded in jboss has its own compiler. I changed the web deployer configuration to use the sun compiler instead of the default but I have the same problem despite tools.jar is in the classpath. Has someone had this problem before or could someone help me on the issue ?

Hi here is what JBOSS displays at startup, everything seems to be right and points to a JDK

To use sun compiler instead of jdt in tomcat I modified web.xml in JBOSS_HOME\server\default\deploy\jboss-web.deployer\conf and added the following to the jsp servlet configuration

but I have the same error as when I use the jdt compiler. I'm clueless on what else I could try from here, I posted also the issue on jboss forums last week but haven't got an answer so far, I suspect a classloader side effect with my application as I get the same error accessing the jboss web-console only when my application is deployed.

Newbie: jsp compile error w/ tomcat 5.0.19

Hello there, this is my first time try to write something in jsp/ servlets, and i encounter a minor installation problem:
using mdk linux with j2sdk1.4.2 (locate at /usr/local/), tomcat is also locate at /usr/local.
I am able to see HelloServlet.java, and HelloWorld.html at http://localhost:8080/servlet/HelloServlet
and http://localhost:8080/testing/HelloWorld.html
but i'm unable to see HelloWorld.jsp at http://localhost:880/HellowWorld.jsp (my HelloWorld.html and HellowWorld.jsp are locate at the same dir)
here's are the things i added in my /etc/profile so far:

looking over the compiler error, it seems to me tomcat is able to recongize /usr/local/j2sdk1.4 's location. which i assume it implied JAVA_HOME and CLASSPATH are setup correctly.
Dunno why it just won't display jsp pages and kept saying compiler error...

JSP compilation issue

When we use the exploded war format we are getting some issues in JSP precompilation.
The issue comes only when we do some local changes to the JSPs in the domain directly and refresh the webpage without restarting the server.
A sample error is given below.

Custom taglib and inexplicable jsp compilation issue

Can someone explain what could possibly be happening here? I have been working on this for two days to no avail.
With the following configuration, my jsp behaves as I expect it to on Tomcat, but fails to compile both for Jetty and the Maven2 jspc plugin

.With the error: com.fijimf.deepfij.web.tag cannot be resolved to a type.
BUT*, if I move MenuItemTag into the package com.fijimf.web, and correspondingly change the .tld, everything works as expected.
Is this a bug, or is there a constraint in taglib packages I don't know about?
Any guidance would be great, because I'd like to put classes where I want them.

This is most likely a bug on the server. The JSP formatted Tag Files usually have a .tag extension on them ( [see tutorial|http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/bnama.html] ). The server is probably looking at yyy.xxx.tag and trying to use it as if it was a Tag File named xxx.tag, rather than a package.

Intermittently successful JSP compilation issue

I am facing a weird issue. I feel this is the right place. If not kindly point me to right place.
We are using Solaris SPARC machines.
We have a bunch of JSP files which compile fine on a sun4u machine.
bash-2.05$ uname -a
SunOS YYYY 5.10 Generic_141444-09 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V245
But the same bunch of files throws error on compilation on sun4v machine.
bash-2.03$ uname -a
SunOS XXXX 5.10 Generic_141414-01 sun4v sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-T1000
We are using the weblogic.appc to compile it. These are the options we are using it with to aid debugging.
-g -lineNumbers -verbose -forceGeneration -keepgenerated
What makes it even weird is that around 30% of time the compilation is success. But remaining 70% of time it fails.
The Weblogic installer is same on both machines.
The Java is same on both machines. (jdk1.6)
The error is something like this:
[jspc] Compiling /xyz/abc.jsp
There are 1 nested errors:
weblogic.utils.compiler.ToolFailureException: jspc failed with errors :weblogic.servlet.jsp.CompilationException: abc.jsp:42:18: Syntax error on token "}", { expected after this token
If I open the file at that line number there is no } to be seen.
Also the errors keep varying in content. I mean they are of similar type in the sense that they have Syntax errors but on different compilation runs their contents are different.
Like this is something which we have seen too.

The file names vary. The error exact text varies.
But the thing which is really strange is that sometimes it complies just fine.
We clear off all the class files before compiling so that the JSP files do get compiled.
Any pointers as to where to look at?

Its around 70 odd JSP. And also i do not see any out of memory errors.
Is there any way I can get more info out of it.
I have seen that -g parameter in case of weblogic appc compiler puts the debug info in the class file.
-g :Compiles debugging information into a class file.
Which class file? Where its located? And if anyway to analyze that class file??Anyone has any idea?

Issue with Tomcat + Struts please help.

I'm developing in Struts Action Framework using Tomcat 5.5.12 as server, Eclipse IDE with Exadel plugin for Struts development.
My application right now only uses a single .jsp as my view component. This jsp, called index1.jsp uses <jsp:include page='body.jsp' /> to dynamically include the output generated by my application, in this case a jsp containing the body of the page.
The problem is that whenever I'm testing my app, the jsp:include tag doesn't seem to find the dynamically generated html, but the ones that are already there... I always have to use the Exadel plugin "republish" feature and then it works..
Any help will be much appreciated

Well... sort of fixed it. Apparently my system doesn't like editing images with a color depth of 16bit. If I convert it down to 8 when I'm converting it from RAW, then it allows me to add layers... Is this normal?

Compilation issues with shared swc

I am often having error messages when I compile my project, that are often fixed with simply doing a Project clean. although, sometimes it requires to recompile certain graphic libraries.
I get this error most of the time "Unable to convert LinkageName to MovieClip" when instanciating a graphic. Or sometimes it can't find a class that is in another library
Is there something that we should do to our projects to change this? I am worried that when I compile an appStore IPA, I will have one of those errors slip and render my app useless.
All my libraries are merged with code and there is some Runtime sharing in my graphic swc's, although the issue is sometimes not even related to that

The weird name you mentioned, is that the server name listed in your mail profile in Outlook? If so, that is to be expected as Exchange 2013 uses a long string for server names. For example, on my profile for my Exchange 2013 server I see this
"3a5b584b-5f64-4e82-abde-ac32da667965@<my domain>".
So let me summarize what you said above to make sure we are all on the same page:
1) Open Shared mailbox by itself it fails
2) Add the mailbox as an additional mailbox it works.

Two compile issues with Sun Studio 12 @ x86(_64 = amd64)

The following two issues are absent on Solaris 10 SPARC and all previous Sun Studio versions (8 to 11), but present on both amd64 Solaris 10 and Linux 2.6 versions:
1. mozilla.org's Spidermonkey "JavaScript" (ECMAscript) can't be compiled with it: in file jsinterp.c an endless loop is entered by the optimizer in level -xO1 and higher (!). With no optimization, linking is impossible (unresolved symbols from jsinterp.o), which hints to defunct output.
2. the optimizer (ube) is crashing in sources with a switch with many many case labels in optimization level -xO3 and higher with a segfault.

I have trouble to seperate a reasonable (example) source out of our complex sources showing the second issue --- what I can already tell is, that the following special pragma has to do with it (while I'm now in doubt that the each 256 case labels per switch, two switches in an if else clause have to do with it):

Issue with Tomcat 4.0.1 (not recieving proper mime type header)

I have two environments running xsql servlets. One is a Red Had 7.2 box with jdk13 and Tomcat 4.0.1 running the jars in WEB-INF/lib directory of my test context. The other environment is a Solaris8 Netra box with the same version of the jdk and the same version of Tomcat. Everthing seems to work okay except for one thing... When I view an xml page on Solaris I get just the text in IE and on the Red Hat box I get the properly formatted xml. I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue.

As you said using equals would not work as it should be a valid String in order for the eqauls function to work.
Unfortuantely I can't access the Servlet created or the log files. It has crossed my mind too but this is a setup by the service provider and they don't let you nose into their business but they ahvedone something wrong with their system as far I can think.
I've wanted to print the output to the web but when i use the request.getParameter it just creates the error.
Java service is provided optional and as any optional service it is not well supported so I need to make them some pointers. So any more ideas?

JSP Compilation Problems With JSTL tags

My JSP worked well when I used JSP expressions, scriptlets, .... I tried to use JSTL instead and encountered some compilation problems. I am unable to see my mistakes and need help:

Java 6 Compiler issue with Windows 7

Hi,
Sorry for the newbie question. I am very new to Java and am currently reading Sams Teach Yourself Java 6 and am having a problem with the JDK 6 compiler. I wrote the beginner program "Hello Username" to test if the compiler is working and am getting the following configuration error when i go to compile it. 'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I added the path C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01\bin to the PATH system variable as the book suggested but it did not change anything. What am I missing? The book was published in 2007 and does not include Windows 7. How can I fix this and get it running?
