JSP execute a Perl script

I want to call a Perl script from my JSP page, but how if I want to return some values from the Perl script back to the JSP page?

Well let's say you were calling the perl script from another perl script, how would you "return" the values? Normally this is done by doing form submits or using url parameters.

    Hi,
    Does anyone knows a way to execute a perl script from within java.

    Of course whether that "works" depends on what the script does and where the java program runs.

  • Can servlets/ jsp automatically run perl scripts and executables?

    I'm a student and am new to to servlets and web programming in general.
    I need to know if it's possible to run perl scripts and executables automatically from servlets/ jsp.
    The program I am planning on creating should have a client outside a firewall that uploads perl files to a gateway machine inside the firewall, the servlet should be able to run this perl file, and then pass the resulting file as an argument to an executable, to be run by another servlet on a different server.
    I've tried looking everwhere for an answer to this and am about to revert to a cgi based approach because I'm not sure if it would work so any help/ suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Hallo,
    I think using java Runtime will help. you can do Processes that execute shell or system commands through
    Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("your perl scripts here!");

  • Shell or perl script from OS command_Sender File Channel

    Hi All,
    I am trying to execute a perl script from the File Sender Channel(NFS), OS command Before Message Processing. The script works fine if i run it from the shell. But when PI calls the script,  the script does not get executed. The audit logs mention that the OS command has been called.
    I tried using:
    1) /<fullpath>perlScript.pl /<fullpath>filename.dat
    2) perl /<fullpath>perlScript.pl /<fullpath>filename.dat
    Both these commands work fine when i execute them on the shell.
    I am on solaris and PI 7.0. The permission for the perl script and input files are all 777.
    FYI.. i am using this perl script to transpose a complex file and make it # delimited file.
    I have already read the blogs for OS command and executed some sample scenarios successfully.
    I tried to call a shell script that does the same functionality as the perl script. Even that does not work.
    Also, wrote a shell script to call the perl script inside it. No luck.
    eg:
    touch /fullpath>/create_before.dat
    perl /<fullpath>perlScript.pl /<fullpath>filename.dat
    touch /<fullpath>/create_after.dat
    In this case, the create_before.dat and create_after.dat is getting created but the perl is not called. I know this because i cant see the output files of the perl script.

    Hi,
    The problem is fixed. The shell or perl both have logic to transpose a non industry starndard file to the delimited file which PI can use an FCC to pick up.
    This was the fix:
    we need to mention the shell the script is going to be run in.
    In the shell script we mentioned --> *#!/usr/bin/bash* as the first line
    normally, when we use the command -- which bash on the unix command prompt, it tells us the path for the bash used.
    another option --> #!/usr/bin/ksh
    again, on the command prompt -- which ksh command will tell us what ksh is being used.
    If the script is a simple one that does copy or move commands, i believe we need not use the commands above. But is a good practice to have them in the script.

    Balaji

  • Perl Script

    Hi Friends !
    We have a Flat File, will gets loaded to the Infocube.
    Ques : In the SAP system, there is a job which runs the perl script & retrieve the data.
    1) How we can see the perl script executed file? Where it is stored?
    2) What is the process involved in the perl script to Flat File?
    With Regards
    Rekha

    Hi,
    1) How we can see the perl script executed file? Where it is stored?
    You can either go to the job spool of the job which executes the Perl Script or you can view the file directly in the AL11 transaction if its getting stored somewhere in the Application Server. You need to know the path of the file to fiew the file in the Application Server.
    2) What is the process involved in the perl script to Flat File?
    Perl Script is just like another programming language which is extracting data from somewhere and storing them to a file which can finally be stored somewhere in the Apllication server and then loaded in the bI system. For this you need to create a Flat File data source and create a data flow to load data from the file to the target.

I have just run
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("perl /home/sabre/work/dev/perl/xxx.pl");
    new Thread(new SyncPipe(p.getErrorStream(), System.err)).start();
    new SyncPipe(p.getInputStream(), System.out).run();
    int returnCode = p.waitFor();
    System.out.println("Return code = " + returnCode);which correctly executes the perl script xxx.pl.
    P.S. SyncPipe is a Runnable that copies an InputStream to an OutputStream.

    Interesting! Even though Runtime.exec() works with a single String, ProcessBuilder fails with this approach! You have to split the argument string. This certainly looks like a bug! Some while ago I looked at the source for Runtime.exec() to look at the differences between Runtime.exec() and ProcessBuilder and found that behind the scenes Runtime.exec() uses ProcessBuilder.
    More research is required.

  • Run perl script on remote server

    Hello
    I have 2 servers, server 1 and server2.
    I have a perl script on server2 and I want to execute that perl script so my code is like
    $command= { param($p1,$p2) cmd /c test.pl $p1 $p2 }
    Invoke-Command -session $sesion -ScriptBlock $command -ArgumentList 1,2
    session is already created with server2 from server1.
    perl script kept on server2 spawn another cmd which interacts with server3.
    When I run above code that perl script start executing but it stays in executing step for infinite time..as per observation, I have found that it stucks when it tried to spawn another cmd which interacts with server3 from server2.
    How can I handle this?

    Second hop restriction and some issue in the perl script that prevents it from honoring the error.
    Run script interactively to test results.
    Enter-PsSession $session
    Type your command and see if you see an error.

  • Capture output of Perl script with jsp:include

    The company's main web site has a CGI script written in Perl that generates a header, and another one that generates a footer. I would like to deploy a JSP that incorporates the header and footer without having to re-implement the header/footer Perl code in Java.
    Can the <jsp:include> tag include the output from these Perl scripts?

    Well, I tried it. The answer seems to be no.
    I created a simple CGI hello-world thingie and tested it, works fine from a browser (I'm doing all this remotely on a friend's Gentoo box so I know it's not just cached in my browser or anything).
    Then I created a simple JSP and used a fully-qualified URL pointing to the executable CGI script. While the JSP compiles and renders (I had some text in the JSP itself too), the part where it's supposed to include the content of the Perl script doesn't even appear.
    I also tried putting the CGI script into my webapp directory and specifying a relative path to the script, and it doesn't seem to get executed either. To confirm that I'm doing everything right, I put together a simple HTML file that has the same output and changed the "page" attribute to point to that file instead. Sure enough, the output appears.
    So the answer to my question appears to be: no, the output of a Perl CGI cannot be included into a JSP with the <jsp:include> tag. But I'm going to double-check on the Tomcat-user mailing list.
