JSP + Struts - Progress message

I have a struts based application in which I have several different views. In each view, when the user clicks on the Fetch button, the application runs a stored proc or query on the database. Depending on the filters provided by the user, this query may take a long time. I would like to inform the user that their request is being processed. How can I achieve this? Javascript?
Can someone please help me get started?
Thanks

  • Using EL variable in struts bean:message tag(not struts EL tag)

    Is there any work around to use an EL variable inside struts bean:message tag as key:
    I have like this:
    <bean:message key="${bean.keyName}"/>
    which is throwing error , I know this can be resolved by using struts-el tags but i cannot use them for specific reasons.
    I dont want to use bean:define tag to define my 'bean' and then use like this:
    <bean:message key="<%=bean.getKeyName%>"/> (this actually works, but i want to use EL variable)
    Is there any work around to use EL variable and make the message display on the jsp.
    i tried multiple ways like scriplets and jsp:useBean but nothing worked, Please let me know..
    Thanks in advance

    Im pretty sure that EL does not work in the normal struts tag unless its struts-el tag.Have you tried it?
    As I said, in a properly configured JSP2.0 container you can use EL expressions anywhere you could traditionally use a standard runtime expression <%= expr %>.
    What server are you using? What JSP version?
    The Struts-el tags were written so that you could use EL with struts in JSP1.2 containers.
    The c_rt tags were written so you could use runtime expressions with JSTL tags in JSP1.2 containers. Their use was discouraged even then. Now I consider their use absolutely unnecessary.

  • Struts errror message

    javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Cannot find message resources under key org.apache.struts.action.MESSAGE
    I already have in web.xml
    application = ApplicationResources
    I already checked that all the entries exists in the ApplicationResources.properties
    as a parameter for action servlet, but still getting this message.
    Oliver

    I posit that it is not irrelevant, but rather crucial. The OP is not using the html <form> tag, but rather the Struts <html:form> tag which converts the action= attribute to the appropriate query-string equivalent. I give more detail here:
    web.xml maps all *.do urls through the Struts servlet
    struts-config defines an <action> with name='/foo'
    author's jsp file uses Struts custom <html:form> tag with attribute action='foo'
    this action= value MUST MATCH a struts-config action name value (sans *.do ending)
    this design relieves the jsp author of having to know the web.xml servlet-mapping details

  • Struts progress bar

    I have a servlet calling external program which give me back response. But it takes a while for the program to execute, so I want to put a progress message before showing the result.
    I wrote a test servlet as followed
    in perform() method:
              PrintWriter writer = response.getWriter();
              writer.write("<HTML><BODY>in progress</BODY></HTML>");
              writer.flush();
              writer.close();
              try{Thread.sleep(5000);}catch(InterruptedException e){}
              return mapping.findForward("success");
    When I access it, I see the in progress on the page but never forward to the result page.
    Please someone tell me how to solve this problem.

    I havent done this myself but have seen examples in the Struts-user list. Maybe you can try searching the archives there. [email protected] You can find the archives at http://www.mail-archive.com

  • Deploy BC4J/JSP-Struts to IAS

    HI,
    I'm trying to deploy a BC4J/JSP-Struts application to IAS. This application was developed with JDeveloper 9.0.3.
    I can deploy this application to a Standalone OC4J (delivered with JDeveloper 9.0.3) on Windows2000 without problem.
    Then I want to deploy this application on Oracle9iAS 9.0.2. For this I create an .EAR file with JDeveloper and I start the OC4J Administrator tools from Oracle9iAS and deploy my application.
    I start the application with
    http://erbium.int.imd.ch:7778/InvoicesInterface/main.jsp?user=x-XxX
    and I become the menu without Problem.
    Then I click on the link
    http://erbium.int.imd.ch:7778/InvoicesInterface/VInvoiceUsersView1_Browse.do?user=x-XxX
    and I become following :
    HTTP 500 Internal server error
    The page cannot be displayed
    Did you have any Ideas ?
    Thanks Yves
    Configuration:
    - Oracle9iAS (9.0.2) on Solaris
    - JDeveloper9.0.3

    Yves -
    I am not able to pinpoint the exact error you are having but here are some obervations
    a) You are going backwards in versions of OC4J when you deploy to 9iAS 902. If you are using JDev 903, then it is running with a local version of OC4J 903. When you are deploying to 9iAS 902, it's a earlier release of OC4J, so there may be an issue there. There is a 9iAS 903 version available from OTN that would be better to use in this case.
    b) Is the struts framework packaged as part of the EAR file you are deploying? i'm not familiar with how BC4J and Struts apps are packaged from JDeveloper, but this is something to check on for sure. The local OC4J running inside of JDeveloper may have the Struts libs configured at the server level.
    c) You might want to try and change the show-friendly-error-messages (or something like that) property inside of IE (if you are using it) so that it will display the stack trace the server might be sending. this may be of help to further locate the source of the problem (ClassNotFoundException, etc.).

  • Javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Missing message for key

    I am researching JDevloper (11g) with the possibility of migrating my struts web apps from Eclipse. I use CVS for source control. I started out by creating an application in JDevloper than by using "version" to check out a "module", one of my web apps, and create a project in the application. Next I modified all the project properties required to get a clean compile and set up my DB connection. After this i launched the project (app) in the IDE using the built-in WebLogic app server. Before it even displays the fist page i get this error message: javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Missing message for key "prompt.deploy.mode";. The key ""prompt.deploy.mode"; is in my ApplicationResouces.properties file which it obviously can not find. The place that WebLogic expects it must be different than Tomcat which is the app server i use in Eclipse. This application is also deployed to OAS. If anyone can tell me how to solve this issue I would be most appreciative. Thank you. - Keith

    Possibly:
    1. Browser could be caching the page.
    2. If you use a proxy, the proxy may be caching the page.
    3. The page is not getting recompiled.

  • Replacing JBO error messages with Struts error messages

    I would like to display Struts error messages on an HTML form instead of the JBO error messages when a user submits a form with data entry error. Has anybody done that? Do I need to extend the DataForwardAction class and write JAVA code to do it or is there a more elegant way?

    Could someone please answer this? As I understand, Steve Meunch says: "our prescriptive architecture's best practice is to implement all validation in your entities" but this is talking more about rules, I think, than about error messages that are customized to specific pages and fields.
    Thanks,

  • Non-ascii, jsp-struts, not reciveing the correct value in the server

    Hi,
    I am developing JSP-Struts based application using tomcat server. In JSP struts form, when I put nonascii charater in the text field or text area, on the server side I recived twice of that non-ascii character..
    for example, in the text field I entered following string:
    ------> This is text in tex field &#131;
    On the server side, I get the following:
    ------> This is text in tex field &#131;&#131;
    Please notice, twice non ascii character.. :(
    I don't know how to resolve this.. Any help will be greatly appricated..
    Thanks,
    Ajay

    I changed the <form> in the jsp to div and its working fine. I do not need to have comments in JavaScript funcion() anymore. I don't know why that made the difference though? According to:
    http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_form.asp
    The <form> tag is used to create an HTML form for user input.
    The <form> element can contain one or more of the following form elements:
    <input>
    <textarea>
    <button>
    <select>
    <option>
    <optgroup>
    <fieldset>
    <label>
    An HTML form is used to pass data to a server.
    I do have <button> and also send the data - the value of checkboxes - to server. So I think it should also work with <form>.
    Please let me know if you have any idea. Thanks.

  • Sync in Progress message stays on Lockscreen

    When I sync my iPhone, the sync in progress message does not go away once syncing is complete. To remove the message, I have to navigate from the lockscreen and then back.  How can I fix this?

    Same here. I regret updating my ios from 4.0 to 4.02 on my ip4. Now it will only do the backup, sync contacts, photos and apps. When it starts transfering my music or books or videos it will just hang and freeze, saying sync in process. I tried full removal of itunes and releated and deleting library. I added my itunes music folder and apps folder to the new library. Tried to sync again and same thing. Hang when it starts with the music or vids or books.
    Apple support was no help on the phone today. Just recommeded reinstall. Now I have an Iphone4 minus the Ipod!!!!!!!

  • Tracking a separate Thread  - java/jsp/struts

    Hi all,
    My project is a webapplication using java/jsp/struts. My requirement is to write bulk data to a file, which i want to run as a separate thread. Since it runs as a separate thread the control comes back to UI (userInterface) page. On subsequent request from UI page by the user i want to check whether the thread process is completed or not , so that i can read from the file. Is it possible to simultaneously read from the file when the thread is in the process of writing data to the file. If so any idea on how to implement this functionality in java?
    How to keep track of the separate thread (whether it is completed or not) in java?
    Is it possible to read from the file when the thread is writing to the file in java?
    Thanks is advance.

    As you're already asking this trival question, I highly recommend you to read the Concurrency Tutorial here at Sun.com. Google can find it.
    Is it possible to read from the file when the thread is writing to the file in java?Not with java.io. You can use the java.nio API for that. You can also read/write it in memory (as a byte[] or a ByteArrayInputStream/OutputStream property) and if it is finished then write it to disk.

  • Learning JSP/Struts with JDeveloper

    Hi. We have an older version of Java on our Unix production web server (1.4.2_12-b03) and it'll be a year before we upgrade it and use JSF. In the meantime, I'm looking at learning Struts and JSP. Can you point me to a few tutorials specific to JDeveloper for JSP/Struts? Most of the tutorials now are for ADF/JSF -- which we can't use yet. Thanks.

    Just to clarify - JSF can run on OAS 10.1.2 (that supports J2EE 1.3 and uses JDK 1.4).
    See: http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/deployment_topics006.htm#CIHCGGDF
    So this shouldn't be a reason for you not to use JSF and JDeveloper 10.1.3.
    That said if you want to learn Struts try following the archive links on the various JDeveloper tutorials/demos pages to the demos from the 9.0.5/10.1.2 days.
