JTable cell color overriding Boolean values displayed as checkboxes. Fix?

I have a JTable column of Boolean values that automatically appear as checkboxes. When I apply my DefaultTableCellRenderer to this column, the checkbox disappears and a "false" or "true" appears instead. But if I mouseclick on the cell, the checkbox will appear momentarily.
Any suggestions for getting the Boolean value displayed as a checkbox and seeing my colors change? (I suppose the easy way is using JCheckBox, but I'm curious if I can do it using Boolean)
Thanks for the help. Code follows for the cell renderer.
class ColorRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer{
public ColorRenderer() {
super();
public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table, Object value, boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int column) {
if (isSelected == true) {
  setBackground(Color.getHSBColor(100, 100, 1));
  setForeground(Color.BLACK);
} else {
  setBackground(Color.LIGHT_GRAY);
  setForeground(Color.WHITE);
if (hasFocus == true) {
  setBackground(Color.RED);
  setForeground(Color.WHITE);
setOpaque(true);
setValue(value);
return this;

Wouldn't extend DefaultTableCellRenderer as that extends a JLabel
I would extend a JCheckBox and implement TableCellRenderer.

  • Shading part of a JTable Cell dependent upon the value of the cell

    Hi
    Was hoping some one woudl be able to provide some help with this. I'm trying to create a renderer that will "shade" part of a JTable cell's background depending upon the value in the cell as a percentage (E.g. if the cell contains 0.25 then a quarter of the cell background will be shaded)
    What I've got so far is a renderer which will draw a rectangle whose width is the relevant percentage of the cell's width. (i.e. the width of the column) based on something similar I found in the forum but the part I'm struggling with is getting it to draw this rectangle in any cell other than the first cell. I've tried using .getCellRect(...) to get the x and y position of the cell to draw the rectangle but I still can't make it work.
    The code for my renderer as it stands is:
    import java.awt.Component;
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    import java.awt.Graphics2D;
    import javax.swing.JLabel;
    import javax.swing.JTable;
    import javax.swing.table.TableCellRenderer;
    public class PercentageRepresentationRenderer extends JLabel implements TableCellRenderer{
         double percentageValue;

                   rectHeight = table.getRowHeight(row);

            g2d.fillRect(x,y, new Double(rectWidth).intValue(), new Double(rectHeight).intValue());

  • Edit a JTable cell, click save button, value isn't stored in JTable

    I'm editing a JTable cell, just using default editor provided by JTable
    I click a save button elsewhere in my GUI
    The value typed into the cell so far isn't stored in the TableModel yet and so doesn't get saved.
    How can I make sure the value gets stored in the JTable in the above scenario when the JButton is pressed but before saving.
    Preferably I'd like the code with the JButton not to have to know about the JTable at all.

  • Problem when setting JTable cell color.

    hello,
    when I setting color for particular table cell, it sets.
    but, when I click another row (another cell) , the color of the previous cell disabled and it visible only when I click that cells row.
    how can I permanatly set the color for the rows depends on input data.
    for example,
    if a device is connected, I want to give the cell color GREEN.
    if device is not connected , i want to give the color as RED.
    thank you.

    but, when I click another row (another cell) , the color of the previous cell disabled and it visible only when I click that cells row.It appears you applied color to cell editor.
    tableObj.getComponentAt(x,y).setForeground(Color.red);
    tableObj.getComponentAt(x,y).setBackground(Color.red); or could be solved properl if you post the code

  • Binding a boolean value to a Checkbox in Dashcode

    I can't seem to bind a boolean value in my JSON model to a checkbox in Dashcode. I can create the binding, and it shows up properly in the datasource and in the bindings inspector for the checkbox part, but if I launch the application through the simulator, or if I save the project, the binding disappears.
    To reproduce:
    1. create an empty (custom) web application project.
    2. Drag a checkbox part onto the canvas.
    3. Create a datasource with the JSON model:
    doit: "false"
    4. Load the datasource, and drag a binding from the doit boolean field to the checkbox. The binding is created. Save the project. The binding is gone.
    Anyone else seen this? What am I doing wrong?

    The question really is, if my pojo has lets say 10 setter methods which will set a boolean to variables in the class. Is there a way I can pass a boolean parameter to 9 out of 10 setters (since the 10th one will be true)?
    Or to all setters is also fine I can then set the one I am interested to true. In case the properties of your PoJOs are <tt>boolean</tt> (and not <tt>Boolean</tt>) they get initialized to false on Object creation.

  • ALV Grid display cell color based on value ( Function Module ALV )

    Hi,
    I want to color the cell based on value eg ( Green = Green color, Red = Red color, Amber = Yello color ).
    Each and every cell is editable after displaying on screen. once the user clicks update button the contents has to be saved to a custom table.
    Can anyone help?
    Advance thanks

    Hi,
    <li>To get color for the cell, you need to set EMPHASIZE field with below information while building fieldcatalog.
    emphasize (highlight columns in color)
    value set: SPACE, 'X' or 'Cxyz' (x:'1'-'9'; y,z: '0'=off '1'=on)
    'X' = column is colored with the default column highlight color.
    'Cxyz' = column is colored with a coded color:
    C: Color (coding must begin with C)
    x: color number
    y: bold
    z: inverse
    <li> To edit the fields, you need to set EDIT = 'X' or INPUT= 'X' . Try those .
    wa_fieldcata-input = 'X'.
    <li>you need to set PF status , to do your remaining requirement.

  • JTable cell color

    I use the following custom DefaultTableCellRenderer:
    ------------------------CustomTableCellRenderer-------------------
    import java.awt.Component;
    import java.awt.Color;
    import java.awt.Font;
    import javax.swing.JTable;
    import javax.swing.table.DefaultTableCellRenderer;
    public class CustomTableCellRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer
         public Component getTableCellRendererComponent( JTable jTable, Object value,boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row,int col)
         super.getTableCellRendererComponent(jTable, value, false,
         true, row, col);
         setHorizontalAlignment(CENTER);
         if(row!=0 && !(jTable.getValueAt(row-1,col).toString().equals(value.toString()))) {
              setBackground(new Color(255,220,220));
         return this;
    -----------------main class-----------------------------------------------
    TableCellRenderer cell = new CustomTableCellRenderer();
         table.setDefaultRenderer( Object.class, cell );
    The above scheme works fine where I want to color a cell every time a change/transition occurs among the values in a particular column for each column in the table.
    The problem is, in the resulting table, all the cells appear selected and I am unable to select a set of rows or columns by clicking/dragging and trying to create a rectangular rubberband.
    Why is it not allowing me to treat this as a regular JTable instance where upon clicking any cell, the whole row gets selected?
    I suspect the 3rd and 4th arguments in the following statement, I tried all boolean combinations for it, but in vain:
    super.getTableCellRendererComponent(jTable, value, false,
         true, row, col);
    any help?

    You need to override the prepareRenderer method of the TableRenderer with something like this:
            table = new JTable(myTableModel) {
                public Component prepareRenderer(TableCellRenderer renderer, int rowIndex, int colIndex) {
                    Component c = super.prepareRenderer(renderer, rowIndex, colIndex);
                    // Set color lightyellow, lightred (inverted ones) or just like the rest of the cells.
                    String cellContent = myTableModel.getValueAt(rowIndex, 4).toString();
                    if (table.isCellSelected(rowIndex, colIndex)) {
                        // nothing to do or maybe setSelectionBackground or further if/else if/else for selected cells.
                    } else if (colIndex == 4 && cellContent.equals("content1")) {
                        c.setBackground(new Color(255, 220, 200));
                    } else if (colIndex == 4 && cellContent.contains("content2")) {
                        c.setBackground(new Color(255, 255, 220));
                    } else {
                        c.setBackground(table.getBackground());
                    return c;
            };If you don't know that c is a TableCellRenderer component you'll need instanceof check.

  • Set Cell Color without using DefaultTableCellRenderer

    Hi,
    Is there any possible to set the JTable cell color without using DefaultTableCellRenderer ?. For ex, I have one JTable that having 9 rows and 9 columns. I have to set the cell color in 2nd row & 3rd column.
    Please anyone give me guidance to solve this.

    Fine.. Please try to understand my points.
    Because in my application I have JTable that having 10 columns and rows dynamically will come based on the value fetch from arraylist. If I use DefaultTableCellRenderer, for each record its calling CustomTableCellRenderer(). For example arraylist return 10 rows means its looping 100 times(10 rows * 10 columns).
    CustomTableCellRenderrer.java
    ArrayList dataLiveMarket = (ArrayList) new CheckUser().getLiveMarketDetails(unval);
    CustomTableModel modelLiveMarket = new CustomTableModel(dataLiveMarket);

  • Why does my cell table not display color but RGB value

    Could somebody please suggest me.
    What I wanted is to let one collumn of a table display colors, but now they display the RGB values of the color not the colors.
    Please suggest me how I should do to get this done.
    Thanks.

    The renderer displays the toString() value of the Object stored in the table by default. If you want to display something else then you need to use a custom renderer
    The Swing tutorial on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/misc/keybinding.html]How to Use Tables explains what a renderer is and has an example that displays a color in a column.

  • Cell with boolean value not rendering properly in Swing (custom renderer)

    import javax.swing.UIManager;
    import javax.swing.table.DefaultTableCellRenderer;

         private Color hasIt = new Color(255, 225, 0);
         public HasItCellRenderer() {
              super();
              setOpaque(true);
         @Override
         public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table, Object value, boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int column) {
              Component comp = super.getTableCellRendererComponent(table, value, isSelected, hasFocus, row, column);
              int desCol = table.convertColumnIndexToView(1);
              if (! isSelected && value instanceof Boolean && column == desCol) {
                   if (((Boolean) value).booleanValue()) {
                        comp.setForeground(hasIt);
                   } else {
                        comp.setForeground(UIManager.getColor("table.foreground"));
              return comp;
          * Override for performance reasons
         @Override
         public void firePropertyChange(String propertyName, boolean oldValue, boolean newValue) {
              // EMPTY
         @Override
         protected void firePropertyChange(String propertyName, Object oldValue, Object newValue) {
              // EMPTY
         @Override
         public void revalidate() {
              // EMPTY
         @Override
         public void validate() {
              // EMPTY
    } // end classBut the rendering comes all wrong (a String saying true or false, not the expected checkbox from the default renderer) and also there is a weird flickring effect as this particular boolean column is editable (per table model, not show here)...
    I can post the table model and the other renderer if needed (didn't want to put too much code on the question, at least initiallty).
    Should I render a checkbox myself for this cell in the custom renderer? I'm puzzled as I expected the default renderer part of the code to do this for me instead.
    Thanks!

    camickr
    Thats because the default render is a JLabel and it just displays the text from the toString() method of the Object in the table model.What I meant to say is that I expected the JCheckbox not a String representation of the boolean value.
    Thats because a different renderer is used depending on the Class of data in the column. Look at the source code for the JTable class to see what the "default >renderer for the Boolean class" is. Then you can extend that or if its a private class then you will need to copy all the code and customize it.At the end I looked at the code and replicated the functionality I needed. I thought than maybe there was a way to avoid replicating the same logic all over again in order to implement this functionality. Good advice, though.
    see you learned nothing from your last posting. This is NOT a SSCCE. 90% of the code you posted is completely irrelevant for the described problem. There is abosutelly no need to post the custom TableModel, because there is no need to use a custom TableModel for this problem. The TableModel has nothing to do with how a column is rendererd.The custom table model returns the type of the column (giving a hint to the renderer on what to expect, right?) and for the one that had a problem it says than the class is Boolean. That's why I mentioned it:
    public Class getColumnClass(int columnIndex) {
        // Code omited....
    You also posted data for 4 columns worth of data. Again, irrelevant. Your question is about a single column containing Boolean data, so forget about the other columns.
    When creating a SSCCE you don't start with your existing code and "remove" code. You start with a brand new class and only add in what is important. That way hopefully if you made a mistake the first time you don't repeat it the second time.That's what I did, is not the real application. I copy & pasted code in a haste from this dummy program on this forum, not the best approach as it gave the wrong impression.
    Learn how to write a proper SSCCE if you want help in the future. Point taken, but there is NO need for you to be rude. Your help is appreciated.
    Regards,

    Hai every body, I hope someone can rescue me. we r building a standalone application(trading system) for the StockMarket. we r trying to update the watchlist,which displays the market ticks.those who r in this domain can understand this as live streaming.Everything is fine.i could acheive this task.but now my boss has created a problem. he wants the jtable cell to hold the color,once the packet has appeared for that symbol.But currently my system(jtable) holds only the latest color.this can be explained further like this,accoring to the market movement,once the tick has come ,basing on the previous value,say if the value has increased i make the table cell as blue and if the value has decreased the table cell is made red. Now i'm really struggling to hold the colors of the previous ticks.can anyone suggest me a solution for this... i hope someone will come to my rescue... i customized the defaulttablecellrenderer.
    thanks in advance regards,

    I think having a custom renderer like this might address your issue.
    public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table,
         Object value, boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus,
         int row, int col) {
         String oldString = getText();
         if(oldString == null || oldString.length() == 0) {
              oldString = "0.00";
         double oldValue = Double.parseDouble(oldString);
         double newValue = ((Double) value).doubleValue();
         if(oldValue < newValue) {
              //Set desired background and foreground colors.
         else if(oldValue > newValue) {
              //Set desired background and foreground colors.
         else {
              //Set desired background and foreground colors.
         setText(String.valueOf(newValue));
         return null;
    }Hope this helps..
