Just installed Swiftfox from AUR, how to install Flash for it??

I just installed Swiftfox for P4, it works great and love it, want to keep using it now but it doesn't have Flash. How can I install it or point it to the already working Flash that my FF2 uses?? (I don't know how to create symbolic links).
TIA folks!!

Okay, that contains:
export PATH="${PATH}:/opt/mozilla/bin"
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH="${PKG_CONFIG_PATH}:/opt/mozilla/lib/pkgconfig"
export MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH="/opt/mozilla/lib/plugins:/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins"
So clearly it looks to /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins. So I would do:
ln -s /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins
But what is the symlink ?

  • Any point to install OSS from AUR?

I have my sound working great with ALSA, I'm just curious if there's any benefit to installing OSS from AUR (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=7134) ??

I use the package, though not from the AUR. I downloaded mine directly from 4Front Tech's website: http://www.opensound.com/
I went this route because they provide the specific driver for my m-audio soundcard. In this thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=44072 NoOneImportant noted that the sound is better than vanilla alsa.

  • Is installing from AUR similar to install from source?

I wonder if installing applications from AUR is similar to installing from source? Recently I have a problem where Eclipse SWT embeded browser is broken and 1 solution is installing firefox from source. So I wonder if installing from AUR is similar as installing from source?
StackOverflow question about broken SWT Browser

You may also be interested in ABS.  ABS is the official build system for Arch.  Things supported by Developers go into Core and Extra, things supported by trusted users go into community.  To get the packages for the extra (which is where firefox lives), install and run (as root) abs.  Then the build stuff for firefox will live at /var/abs/extra/firefox
    ewaller@odin:/var/abs/extra/firefox 1021 %ls
    firefox.desktop firefox.install firefox-install-dir.patch libvpx.patch mozconfig PKGBUILD vendor.js
Looking at the PKGBUILD, that package does compile from source.  Copy the directory to a user directory, enter that directory, and you can build your own copy with makepkg.  You can then install the package with pacman -U
If you need to change something, change the files in your local copy.
This is not that tough, but it is most definitively not a project for a beginner.  The documentation you need is out there, you will need to do your research.

When Creative Cloud updated a few days ago (Win7) it reported I had no installed apps.
In Lightroom I keep getting messages that a new version is available. Installed it from CC and it installed without error, CC shows I installed it, but it simply fails to run.
How do I get CC to find apps installed under the previous version?
And how do I get Lightroom CC to run?
    Peter

I still don't know how to get CC to find that I have Photoshop CC installed, but running Creative Cloud, going to Preferences and signing out, then signing in again got Lightroom CC to work.
Since Photoshop CC is still working despite apparently not being installed things are now OK, at least for the moment. But I'm not feeling at all happy with Adobe.

  • Package from AUR failed to install after doing many steps, how to rm?

How can I see what files have been left on my hard drive after a package failed to install. I can't pacman -Rsu the package because it didnt install, but now i got some other packages that i don't need then. and probably some other stuff while the package was being extracted..
How can i prevent from leaving a messy trail?

Yeah gen2ly, i was using yaourt to get a package from AUR.
I was able to uninstall the extra packages that were uninstalled, but is it possible that when the PKGBUILD failed that it left some random files somewhere? That's what I trully want to know. The other dependancies i have already removed.
Hey thanks for the info on unzip, Runiq! unzip works miracles!!!! I installed it, and now the front end "File Roller" AKA "Archive Manager" in Gnome can suddenly handle .zip files! It's awesome! no need for p7zip or xarchiver.
Every newbie or windows transferee should know about it!
But anyways, is it possible the failed PKGBUILD left files somewhere?

Yes, ffmpeg libraries dropped support for many deprecated functions and macros.  Either this was fairly recent, or the documentation has been fairly slow to catch up.
This change, however, is documented.  AV_METADATA_... needs to be replaces with AV_DICT_... and dict.h needs to be included.
This is an upstream issue and should be reported there, but I'll see if I can get a PKGBUILD to "patch" the problem in the mean time.
edit:  I was able to fix this issue with a single sed line in the PKGBUILD, but then new issues sprang up.  I fixed those, then yet more arose.  The entire package is written against an outdated version of the ffmpeg libraries.  This either needs to be built against those old versions, or fixed (rewritten) upstream.
edit2: if you don't need mp4 support, you should be able to disable this option and compile everything else just fine.  To do so you can use this PKGBULD hack in the build function:
    ./configure \
    --prefix=/usr \
    --libexecdir=/usr/lib \
    --disable-static
    sed -i 's/\(#define HAVE_AVCODEC 1\)/\/*\1*\//g' config.h
    sed -i 's/\(#define HAVE_AVFORMAT 1\)/\/*\1*\//g' config.h
    sed -i 's/\(#define HAVE_AVUTIL 1\)/\/*\1*\//g' config.h
    make
adding the three sed lines.  This compiles fine, but again, you will not have mp4 support.

  • [SOLVED] Can't install linuxwacom from AUR with latest X Server

I am unable to reinstall linuxwacom, which I had reinstalled perfectly the day before the big update from testing yesterday, which, among many other things, updated X Server to 1.7.0.901-1.
Here is the error output (am installing linuxwacom 0.8.4-6 from the AUR). I'm including everything that apears (to me) to be associated with the error, but if there should be more or less, let me know:

    Error: unable to update linuxwacom
Because of this, I can no longer use my pen or touchscreen. My tablet is a Lenovo X61t.
This is probably due to the testing repo as the package's maintainer (gwash) was unable to reproduce this with the latest updates from core and extra installed.
[edit] Perhaps this is because this package is designed to be compatible with version 1.6 of X Server, and I'm using 1.7 (the latest in testing). Are any other tablet users in testing experiencing this problem? [/edit]
[edit] And as I thought, downgrading xorg-server to 1.6 fixed this (this also required downgrading evdev and the intel driver). So it's just linuxwacom's incompatibility with verison 1.7, which will hopefully be fixed soon. Marking the subject line as SOLVED, though the real solution is an update to linuxwacom. [/edit]

I've added the patch to the linuxwacom-cvs package.
Thanks, but I still can't build it:

  • How do I create an install disk from recovery partition to install on a blank hd

So, my hard drive is slowly dying . . . about all I'm able to access is the recovery partition. I bought a new hard drive to replace it, but no longer have the install disks that came with the computer. How do I make install disks from the recovery partition that I can use to install Mountain Lion back onto the new hard drive?

    You have two possibilities:
    1. Open App Store > Purchases and download Mountain Lion. When the download has finished, open Lion Diskmaker to make a bootable Mountain Lion USB drive > http://blog.gete.net/lion-diskmaker-us/
    2. Download Recovery Disk Assistant from the Support website to create a Recovery HD on your USB drive.
The difference between them is that the first contains OS X Mountain Lion, so you won't have to download Mountain Lion from the App Store when you are going to install Mountain Lion

  • Can't install Dropbox from AUR due to missing dependencies.

I'm posting in the Newbie Corner, since I suspect that this is a newbie issue with a really simple solution..
I've been using Dropbox for Linux directly from Dropbox.com, but I had now decided to convert to the AUR version (easier to update). But it won't install. It won't even build.

==> ERROR: Makepkg was unable to build bbox-git.
    ==> Restart building bbox-git ? [y/N]
Not optimal that this is in norwegian.. But in essence it tells me that there are missing dependencies. Qt to be exact. And because of this makepkg is not able to build bbox-git. Earlier in the process (when the dependencies for bbox-git is listed) it says that qt is not installed and will be buildt from AUR. I've tried to reinstall qt. Please help.
    EDIT:
    I'm using Yaourt.

Trilby wrote:You say you've tried to install qt, does that mean you failed to install it?  qt should not be installed from the AUR, it is a package group in [extra].
I've tried to reinstall it. And I've installed it from the official repos of course. The AUR bit is output from Yaourt, not me.

I'll post the output of this later (it's getting late here).

First, that's not the dropbox package, but something that is like dropbox. If you want the actual dropbox program you want https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dropbox
If this is the package you actually want, it looks like it hasn't been updated since the qt packaged was renamed qt4, so you'll need to change that in the PKGBUILD file by hand.
It is the package you're linking to I'm having trouble installing. Okay, I'll have a look. Later. I'll get back to this thread.
karol wrote:I'm not sure if https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dropbox is easier to update - as you can read in the comments, many users are not happy with the auto-update feature.
Maybe it's too easy to update ;P , but YMMV.
Do I ever catch a break in life? Not often at least.

I'm kind of trapped in a vicious circle - I want to use taskjuggler with Emacs Org-mode, but thats much easier with taskjuggler2. However, I cannot install taskjuggler2 from the AUR (only taskjuggler3), there are always errors (="Fehler" in German - next time I use LC_ALL=C).

  • [SOLVED] Makepkg, install dependencies from AUR.

Is it possible for makepkg to install the dependencies from AUR with makepkg -si?
    Last edited by lemanski6 (2012-09-20 18:05:38)

Nope.  Many "AUR helpers" do this though.  In my limited experience yaourt seems to be one that handles this seemlessly, but I'd say it comes with some costs of hiding what is doing from the user.
