Just upgraded to Firefox 4.0. when I scroll with the mouse wheel, the screen jumps as if it is redrawing with each wheel roll. IE does not do this, so it shouldn't be a hardware/mouse setting.

All other programs scroll smoothly as should be; what's happening in Firefox to cause this?

Noticed it only happens on my secondary monitor; on the primary, it scrolls just fine. Got any ideas on how to fix this?

  • I just upgraded to Firefox 4. Now my cursor doesn't "snap-to" the default position.

I just upgraded to Firefox 4. Now my cursor doesn't "snap-to" the default button. I made sure it was newly recognized (by unchecking and rechecking) in
Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options > Snap To: Automatically move pointer to a default button in a dialog box > Apply > OK
But the Fox isn't cooperating. How do I get this working again?

I'm afraid I don't understand how your reply relates to my problem. I'll type the words I don't understand in your answer:
"default dialog button" (where do you find this?)
    "mouse middle-click button" (I have a wheel)
"Global default" I don't know what that is, so, apparently, it doesn't apply to me.
"IntelliMouse" I don't have this either, just an old, dumb "Dell mouse" ;-)
"dialog box" is that what I'm hoping the cursor will be moved to? If so, how do I get it to move there on it's own? What's the purpose of "Snap to" if I have to move the cursor there myself?

If there are problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.
*Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html):<br>File > Import and Export
*Import the HTML file in Firefox:<br>Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML
See "Import from another browser" and "Import from file":

  • On my own website vdha.us, I am now getting many words that are purple and when you mouse over them, a new spamming window opens trying to sell something. IE-9 does not do this. How do I turn this off in firefox?

    Sirs,
The below URL came up immediately when I tried to access our Newfangled website this morning http://vdha.us :
    http://surveyprizecenter.com/survey/claimgift-GT-kw-7b.php?t202kw=Vdha.us&trimmedKeyword=Vdha.us
I prefer to use Firefox and very seldom use IE-9. but now I might be forced to remove Firefox 4.0.1 and resort to using IE-9 because of this situation.
I don’t know how spammers can use our website to exploit their spamming, but I can only imagine the complaints I am going to get from our Board of Directors and members about this.
Can you make them stop, or at least explain how it is that anyone can do this without our permission.
We have never allowed advertisement on our website and don’t plan on starting now.
I am now also getting many words that are purple with two lines under them, and when you mouse over them, a new spamming window opens automatically trying to sell something. How do I turn this off?
I would appreciate any expediency in the return of an answer that you can provide.
    Kindest Regards,

The "MySearchDial" app needs to be removed in 4 places.
    1) Go to "add / remove programs" in your windows control panel select mysearchdial and remove it.
    2) Open your Firefox browser then click the Firefox tab at the top left and select options. You will need to change the start page settings back to your preferred start page.
    3) Again under the Firefox tab select "add-ons". In the add-ons manager you will need to remove mysearchdial from both "plugins" and "extensions"
    4) In your search bar (top right of address bar" use the drop down menu and select "manage search engines". You can restore your preferred search engine and remove mysearchdial from the menu.
This should remove all the components of the nuisance hijacker and restore your browser back to your preferred settings. If you are comfortable with a more in depth removal I would also suggest going to your "programs" folder within the "C" drive of your machine and deleting the "MySearchDial" folder altogether. However, only do this AFTER you have uninstalled it from your system and if you are familiar with this type of removal.

  • I just upgraded to Firefox 4 and when I try to open it I get a message Cannot use with this version of OS X. How do I go back to the old version?

    Question says it all.

Thank you. BUT, I've been downloading since noon. Download speed is 1KB/s, and it says that I have 2 hrs, 25 minutes, no, 2 hrs 27 minutes, wait, 2 hrs 28 minutes (and growing) to go.
I hope the Mozilla folks post a system requirements warning, next time.

  • I just upgraded to firefox 4 and it won't play any videos on the internet. Is there a fix for this or how can I go back to the previous version.

my firefox 4 wont play any videos. adobe flash player says its not compatible with this arcitecture. Did anyone bother to test this before releasing it.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond, but I don't want to uninstall my persona. I want to uninstall FireFox 4. I love my persona.
It really bugs the crap out of me when FireFox sends these upgrades around and I click "yes" to install them then my entire desktop stops working.
Is it always necessary for their upgrades to render the add-ons that people develop useless?

In Firefox 23 versions and later the keyword.URL pref is no longer supported and it is no longer possible to specify the search engine for the location bar via the keyword.URL pref.<br />
The search engine that is used on the location bar and on the about:home page is the search engine that is selected in the search Bar on the Navigation Toolbar.<br />
Current Firefox versions do not update the about:home home page until you refresh the page (future versions will do this automatically without a refresh) and that is what happens if you use the Back key.
You can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page.

  • Just upgraded to firefox 4 and websites are now taking ages to load, there were no problems when I downloaded the upgrade. Is there a fault with the new version of firefox?

Just upgraded to firefox 4 and websites are now taking ages to load, there were no problems when I downloaded the upgrade. Is there a fault with the new version of firefox?

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • I just upgraded to Firefox 4.0 only to find my Roboform disappeared - it takes me to the site to buy a license that I already have

I just upgraded to Firefox 4.0 only to find my Roboform disappeared - When I click on Roboform Toolbar, Firefox takes me to the site to buy a license that I already have. What happened to my Roboform Toolbar, which was working and now it's there?

Depends upon the version of Roboform you have. Roboform Pro v.6 needs to be updated to v.7 for Firefox 4.0 compatibility.
If you are using the '''Full RoboForm Toolbar''', install the Roboform adapter for '''Firefox 3.0 - 4 beta X''' from here: <br />
    http://www.roboform.com/firefox.html
Scroll down that page, you want the one shown under: <br /> '''Additional Full RoboForm Toolbar Information''' <br />

Just upgraded to Firefox 10 on a Window7 64 bit PC. Google Finance charts no longer work. Checked the web for similar. Updated to latest compatible Adobe Flash player 32 bit as suggested. Flash player works. I can see finance charts in IE, but not Firefox 10. I can see finance charts on Yahoo in Firefox, but not Google finance charts. Main chart at google.com/finance is displayed. Individual stock charts don't.

I just upgraded my Firefox program to a new version and immediately I started seeing a group of black lines running 10-15 deep running across my computer screen while on the Web. As I scroll down they sometimes disappear. Then they reappear. It doesn't happen all the time. But often enough.

  • Just upgraded to Firefox 4 and important Norton toolbar is missing - how do I get it back?

I've only just upgraded to Firefox 4 today (30.4.11) and when it had installed and restarted, my Norton toolbar was missing. A message from Firefox did come up - something to do with some items not compatible with version 4 but I can't remember all that it said. I haven't had this problem with any of the other versions of Firefox. This is an important toolbar as it concerns identity protection, safe web searching.

Symantec have released updates for Norton 360 and Norton Internet Security to make them compatible with Firefox 4, for details see http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Firefox-4-compatibility-hotfix-is-now-available/td-p/428894
