JVM SUNONE GC problem

Our applciation uses struts, ojb and oracle; 100 users using the app all day; (in a client server fashion); but app is JSP.
We have major issue with garbage colelction. every day, once or twice FULL Colelction repeats itself for ever until we have to restart appserver.
our settings are 512MB for heap.
I have pasted few lines of one such instance. Can anyone help us with exp. and or suggestions to get us out of hole here.

1.Can you upload your GC log?
2.Strongly reccomend JProfiler, you'd better use remote profiling mode.
3.You must modify your program. Simply tuning will never fix such problem.

    Hi all
    I'm having a wee(?) problem using jaxp/xerces (DOM) on the microsoft
    virtual machine.
    I have a xml based chat server/client. The client is 1.1 compatible so that no plugin download is necessary. However, when the client tries to parse xml, it throws the exception below. I don't know why it tries to read the jaxp properties file from my local machine but it does.
    I think the problem here is that the parser jar files are not included in the client jar file, but even when i do include them i get the same problem. (I'm aware of the security issues regarding reading local files, and I'm trying to avoid it, since i do not want to sign the client applet).
    **When i run the same applet through the latest java runtime plugin, it works fine. this only happens on the MS JVM**
    I'm aiming for a clean solution here. I don't want a big file download (parsers).
    Is my best route to give up using the jaxp/xerces parsers, and just write my own mini-xml-parser code?

    From what I can see I looks like jaxp is looking for the default parser factory in jaxp.properties. Since you applet is not signed, it can't open the file. You might be able to set a system property to override this. See here.

  • JVM cold fusion problem

    We are running weblogic 6.0, accessing it from cold fusion.
    What we are seeing is, we can access the application server --
    sometimes. Seems about 50% of the time we get succes, the other 50% we
    are getting an exception "Exception: Cannot instantiate class:
    weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory"
    We have been trying to figure this out for days now, it appears that the
    WLInitialContextFactory class is being unloaded and is failing on trying
    to reload -- sometimes.
    has anyone else out there seen problems like this and gotten a fix?
    We made the jvm memory in cold fusion to 32MB's, 4MB's initial and it
    doesnt seem to be running very low on memory.
    We have changed from using jdk1.2.1, jdk1.2.2, jdk1.3 and they all seem
    to perform the same. The percentage of failure seems to change slightly
    but I am guessing that the gc in the different jvm's is working
    differently.
    Any help you can add will be MUCH appreciated!

    an article which described a 'limitation to ColdFusion classloader' (nice description
    for a bug).

  • Switching from Microsoft JVM to sun JVM plugin.  Problem w crystal reports

    I am currently in the process of switching off of the microsoft jvm to the sun plugin. I am using the reportviewerbean to view the reports. This works fine in the microsoft JVM, but I am getting a server not found error in the java JVM plugin. Here is the codes that is currently used:

    Does "_type" really have a leading underscore? That must be a PITA to work with. Sorry my bad it does not have an underscore.
    the queries always states the type of the PARTY.

    You have to grant JAVAUSERPRIV to the user running your EJBs so that it is allowed to open a JDBC Thin socket out of the JVM to the backend database.

  • 64-bit JNI C++ to JAVA invocation multiple threads classloader problem

    I have a C++ app that invokes Java classes on 64-bit Solaris 10 with 64-bit JVM.
    Here is the problem:
    The native non-main (not the thread that initializes the JVM) threads would not be able to find any user-define class.
    Here are the symptoms and observations:

    6. Except for the JVM reference is global, each thread acquired JNIEnv by either GetEnv() or AttachCurrentThread().
    Any idea why it is a problem with 64-bit?

  • Connection Pooling problem in Weblogic Server 6.1

    Hi
    We are using weblogic server 6.1 sp3. The server creates three database connection
    pools (details available in the attached config.xml).
    The database has a regular downtime every day for a few hours. We are running
    the server as a windows service. As per the "RefreshMinutes" property, the server
    should be able to get new fresh connections once the database comes up. But in
    our case it is not doing so. Once the database comes up after its regular downtime:
    -- Sometimes the server does not respond as in we are not able to open the console
    page.
    -- Any client that tries connecting to the database thru the server gets blocked
    and does not respond.
    -- The log file(weblogic.log) does not get updated after some time.
    Can someone suggest why the server is showing such a behaviour??
    Could it be anything related to the DBMS setting or to the local machine's settings

    Problem
    I am working on a product which is java based. I have a war file. I have to deploy this war file in JBoss. Further, I need to run multiple instance of this war file in same JBoss instance.

    As you can see if I deployed two instance of this war in JBoss and assume each instance point to its own properties file. The �Static� members are problem.
    Restriction
         I am not allowed change the code or logic of the product. I must be able to get some thing outside or apply a patch to solve this problem.

    I have a problem related to the system date
    (the date from JVM)
    How can I change dynamically the date of a JVM?
    my problem: I have to create a test case for
    a trigger
    I want to create an object, and I need to change
    the date to see the result
    I want to create a 'contract' object which
    will expire at the end of this month. I want
    to set the date to the next month and to see
    the result (the contract should expire).
    It's possible to do this by changing
    the date of the system....but it's not at all automatically

    the thread is a 'jdring' thread, a product that
    is working like the old 'cron' daemon on unix
    you can define the pattern to wake up the thread
    ('every day at 1:01 AM' for example)
    when this thread is awaken then it executes a
    JDBC request to see if there are contracts
    where the expiration date has passed
    if any...then it will set the status of those contracts
    to 'expire'
    the problem comes from the fact that the range of
    expiration date is limited
    (a contract can expire at the end of this
    month | quarter | year )
    so, I need to create a contract (stored in a database),
    to change the date of the JVM somewhere after
    the expiration date of the contract and then
    to check the results.
    the only solution I found is to change the system date
    but it's not an automatically one
    (stop the application, change the system date, restart application)

    Try using -XnoOpt parameter. This option turns off adaptive optimization. While optimized code generally runs faster than code that hasn’t been optimized, occasionally, the time required to optimize code results in undesirable delays processing. -XnoOpt lets you avoid these delays by turning off optimization. This option is also helpful when you suspect that a JVM or application problem, such as a system crash or poor startup performance, might be related to optimization. You can turn optimization off and retry your application. If it then runs successfully, you can safely assume that the problem lies with code optimization

  • Repaint problems with an applet under Netscape 4.75

    Hello,
    I'm currently working on an applet created with VisualAge for Java, running under the standard Netscape 4.75 JVM, with Windows NT4.
    I am experiencing problems with AWT components which randomly disappear, especially Labels and sometimes Panels. When I drag a window over the missing label and then drag it back, the label appears.
    I have tried a lot of combinations with the repaint(), paint(), paintAll() and paintComponents() methods, but it has not been efficient for the moment. Introducing lots of repaint() calls on the concerned labels is even worse.
    Is there a known bug in the Netscape 4.75 JVM concerning this problem ? Do you have an idea of what can be done to solve this problem ? Changing the JVM is not an option that can be chosen. Netscape 4.75 has been defined as the only browser for the whole project.

    Well, I finally solved this problem.
    For your information, the JVM included in Netscape 4.75 running under NT4 does not like having AWT labels with either Background or Foreground not initialised. If any of these 2 properties is not defined, it could sometimes occur that the JVM can't display the label.

  • Draggable window only works in MS JVM, and not Sun?

    Hello all,
    Our applet needs to support the MS JVM (and therefore Java 1.1). I have been looking to create a draggable Window to replace a Frame that we have since we want the frame to be 'undecorated' (no minimize button, etc). I found some code on this forum to create a draggable window which works fine. But, I would like to create my own title bar on the Window and only have that draggable. When I add the same listeners to the Label instead of the Window itself, the dragging no longer work so well in the Sun JVM, while it works fine in the MS JVM. The problem I am seeing is that if I don't drag slowly it skips, or doesnt drag. Note, I am only seeing this when adding the drag listeners to the Label in the Window, but this works fine when the listeners are on the Window itself. Also, this works fine in the MS JVM. Any ideas? For example, the code below is what has the issue in Sun JVM, but if I replace the 'title.' to 'this.' on the 2 listeners adds, I can drag the window fine in Sun JVM.

    Sorry, I didn't read your post carefully the first time.... My suggestion would be to add listeners to both the label and the window, although that would make the whole window draggable. To nullify that effect, you'd have to put another component in the main part of your window (Like a JPanel if you could use Swing) and have it eat up any mouse dragged/clicked events that it receives.

    I have a problem too playing TS from Harddisk with the IRT RI..
    I went through all steps and i am not quite sure if i configured it right and i am confused about the way my xlet tells the RI WHICH TS-file it wants to play..
    Because i get a NoPlayerException when trying to play a TS-File, there must be something wrong with the parameters i use in my code or my configuration settings..
    I got a ts-file with the following parameters:
    Network-ID: 16
    Transportstream-ID: 1080
    Service-ID: 100
    I set up the IRT RI as follows:

    If you have a symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) server with multiple processors, is it useful for Java applications that are multithreaded? Can each Java thread run in a different processor?
    Can the JVM itself run through multiple processors? If not, then I'm guessing SMP wouldn't be useful for application servers that only run in one JVM.

    application servers that only run in one JVM.A general problem with multiple threads executing simultaneously on an SMP machine, is that access to memory needs to be synchronized, which may result in performance bottlenecks.
    Also, if the JVM you're using does not offer parallel GC, SMP won't help on the latency observed when GC has to stop all java threads ("Stop-Of-The-World" mechanism) to reclaim memory.
