JWS WSDL question:  unmarshalling an object parameter's List member

My webservice method which takes a single object parameter, which in turn has a member of type java.util.List, unmarshalls a complex type into the WSDL differently than another web method that has a parameter of type List. With that tortured explanation, here is a nutshell example:
@WebService(...)
@SOAPBinding(style=Style.RPC, use=Use.LITERAL)
public class MyService {
    @WebMethod
    public void doOne(MyStruct request) { ..... }
    @WebMethod
    public void doTwo(List<String> names) { ..... }
public class MyStruct {
    private List<String> names;
    public List<String> getNames() {.....}
    public void setNames(List<String> names) {.....}
}The generated WSDL has a complex type for MyStruct, and that has an element defined like so:
<xs:element maxOccurs="unbounded" minOccurs="0" name="names" nillable="true" type="xs:string"/>Whereas the type of element generated for the input message for doTwo() is:
<wsdl:part name="arg0" type="ns1:stringArray"></wsdl:part>(where stringArray is a complex type, sequence of type xs:string... obv)
Why the two different generated elements for the same native Java type? How can I make it generate a stringArray element for the element in MyStruct?

  • HOW TO PASS NON REMOTE OBJECT PARAMETER

    good day,
    hi im new to java and rmi, and i need help pls, my question is how can i pass a non-remote object/local object as a parameter to a remote method. can u pls give a code for the:
    1. client that will invoke the remote method and pass the object in remote objects method.
    2. object that will be passed to the server/remote object( a serilizable object of course).
    3. the remote object and the method that will receive the object parameter.
    thank you very much for your kindness,
    p.s.
    you can email me to [email protected]
    batusai,

    When you create the object locally, and pass it to the server, at that point it exists on both systems/in both jvms.
    Why don't you write your own example, and try it. If you get in trouble, post the code, and we will help you.

  • Weblogic - a web service with java.lang.Object parameter

    hi all,
    i'm creating a web service with a java.lang.Object parameter.
    my question is as follows:
    when a client calls the web service, how to i get the soap message object and convert it to soap message string using the parameter?
    thanks,
    alex

    Here's some code from one of the Axis samples, this shows the basic process of making a call:
    package samples.message;
    import org.apache.axis.client.Service;
    import org.apache.axis.client.Call;
    import org.apache.axis.message.SOAPBodyElement;
    import org.apache.axis.utils.Options;
    import org.apache.axis.utils.XMLUtils;
    import org.w3c.dom.Element;
    import java.net.URL;
    import java.util.Vector;
    public class TestMsg {
    public String doit(String[] args) throws Exception {
    Options opts = new Options(args);
    opts.setDefaultURL("http://localhost:8080/axis/services/MessageService");
    Service service = new Service();
    Call call = (Call) service.createCall();
    call.setTargetEndpointAddress( new URL(opts.getURL()) );
    SOAPBodyElement[] input = new SOAPBodyElement[2];
    input[0] = new SOAPBodyElement(XMLUtils.StringToElement("urn:foo",
    "e1", "Hello"));
    input[1] = new SOAPBodyElement(XMLUtils.StringToElement("urn:foo",
    "e1", "World"));
    Vector elems = (Vector) call.invoke( input );
    SOAPBodyElement elem = null ;
    Element e = null ;
    elem = (SOAPBodyElement) elems.get(0);
    e = elem.getAsDOM();
    String str = "Res elem[0]=" + XMLUtils.ElementToString(e);
    elem = (SOAPBodyElement) elems.get(1);
    e = elem.getAsDOM();
    str = str + "Res elem[1]=" + XMLUtils.ElementToString(e);
    return( str );
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
    String res = (new TestMsg()).doit(args);
    System.out.println(res);

    Can someone please help to solve this.
    Regards,
    Sunil

    Unfortunately there's not really enough information for anyone to help you much. I can tell you've hit an EOF Exception, but that's about it.
    What exactly do you mean by a heavyweight object parameter? Do you mean a large (in memory size) object?
    Without any knowledge of your application, I'd probably start by changing your ejb method to do nothing. That should tell you at least whether it's the serialization of the parameter that's the issue or not. Narrow it down from there.
    If you need more help, printing the entire stack trace of the EOFException and posting it here would be helpful.

  • LinkedLists --- returning the next object in the list

    Hi,
    My project is a college where i can input students using a linked list. In one of my classes 'StudentLinkedList' i have to return the next student in the list (where the current object is input into the method as a parameter).
    So far i have
    // Returns the next student object in the list
            public Student getNext(Student before) {
                 Student before =
            }As you can see i have Student before as the parameter but i don't exactly know what i should assign that too. I don't want it to be the first object in the list or the last object in the list, it could be any student. Do you get me?
    Another example of a method in my class which works is returning the first student object in the list...
    // Returns the first Student object in the list
            public Student getFirstStudent() {
                 if(size() > 0) {
                 return list.getStudent();
                 } else
                      System.out.println("There are no students in the college");
                      return null;
            }Thanks alot

    Ive gone on to put this in

                      StudentNode before = node.getStudent();
                 return node.getNext();
            }am i on the right track?I don't think so. Why are you overwriting "before" before you're using it? Don't you think that because it's included as a parameter, it's probably important?
    Ah, I see, they're different types. Use a different variable name for before #2, call it beforeNode or something.
    Anyway, this should be fairly simple if you break it down into steps:
    1) Iterate through your list until you find a "node" such that node.getStudent().equals(before);
    2) Return node.getNext().getStudent() (of course checking for null values along the way)

    Hi
    The part where you have "some log" you have not declared the file.
    Try something like:

  • Unable to move object. Change lists were not part of the same import

    Hi All
    I am facing a strange problem.
    We have applied SP16 patch on our XI box and imported all the scenario objects and design objects which were exported as .tpz file .
    After importing scenario object,all objects moved to a new node 'XI 3.0 Import' in change list and when I tried to activate this change list it gave me an error
    <b>"Unable to move object. Change lists were not part of the same import"</b>
    even if I try to move it Standard change list, it gives me same error.
    Any solution?

    Hi,
    Hope you are activiating the complete change list. You get this error because you trying to activate a part of the change list.

  • Question re Command Object to populate parameter drop-down

    I have a report that uses a SQL Server stored procedure as the data source. The first parameter they enter is their company number (we have numerous clients using Lawson and access Crystal through LBI). The next parameter is the account number. I have a SQL statement written that gets distinct account numbers by company. When I create a Command object with the SQL statement, it doesn't allow me to use the company parameter.
    SELECT DISTINCT GLC.ACCOUNT, GLC.ACCOUNT_DESC
    FROM dbo.GLMASTER AS GLM
    INNER JOIN DBO.GLCHARTDTL AS GLC
    ON GLM.CHART_NAME = GLC.CHART_NAME
    AND GLM.ACCOUNT = GLC.ACCOUNT
    WHERE GLM.COMPANY = {?Company}
    ORDER BY GLC.ACCOUNT
    When I do Add Command in Database Expert and add the SQL above and name the parameter and try to Add, it says "Failed to retrieve data from the datase.
    Details: ADO Error Code: 0x
    Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
    Description: No value given for one or more required parameters
    Does anyone have a similar situation and a solution to this problem--either regarding my approach and error or a different approach to get the same thing?
    Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    You can't do this through a command object.  This particular type of parameter is called a "Cascading Dynamic Prompt".  You have to set these up through a Crystal Business View.

  • Question about using objects in SQL query.

    I had posted this question in the SQL/PLSQL forum but I guess nobody took the time to understand exactly what I am asking so I decided to try here hoping to get the answer. So here is the thing:
    I have created generic object type "tree" - the constructor takes as a parameter sql query which returns "node_id" and "parent_node_id" - this is all we need to have a tree. The object has all related to a tree structure member functions and one of them is "oldest_relative" (the tree may not be fully connected - it may be more like a set of many trees, so it's not necessary all nodes to have the same root).
    I also have departments table with the following fields: department_id, parent_department_id, department_name,...
    all records in the table w/out parent_departments (parent_department_id is null) are considered divisions.
    Now if I run the following query:
    SELECT "DEPARTMENT_ID", "PARENT_DEPARTMENT_ID", "DEPARTMENT_NAME", tree('select department_id "node_id", parent_department_id "parent_node_id" from departments').oldest_relative("DEPARTMENT_ID") "DIVISION_ID" FROM departments
    my question is: Is the tree object created for every row or does Oracle somehow caches the object since the object itself is not changing but only the parameter for the oldest_relative member function.
    The table only has a few hunderd records and I can't see much of a difference in the execution time btw the query above and query like this:
    SELECT "DEPARTMENT_ID", "PARENT_DEPARTMENT_ID", "DEPARTMENT_NAME", b.t.oldest_relative("DEPARTMENT_ID") "DIVISION_ID"
    FROM departments left join (select tree('select department_id "node_id", parent_department_id "parent_node_id" from departments') t from dual) b on 1 = 1
    where the object is clearly created just ones. (there is probably a better way to do it instead of this join)
    Pls elaborate
    George

    Not exactly sure what the question is...
    As I understand, you are comparing the following two constructor calls:
    +select..  tree('select department_id "node_id", parent_department_id "parent_node_id" from departments').oldest_relative("DEPARTMENT_ID") ... FROM ...+
    +select tree('select department_id "node_id", parent_department_id "parent_node_id" from departments') ... FROM dual+
    These calls are the same (besides the 1st one doing an immediate implicit call to a method of the object being constructed). The number of times these are being called depends on the number of times this SQL projection is applied - and that is determined by the number of rows being projected by the SELECT.
    The latter one is against DUAL which only has a single row. So that constructor is only called once. The former can be against multiple rows. Obviously a single pass through a data set is desirable - which means that the sub-select (use by the constructor) should ideally only be executed once and makes the 2nd method more desirable.
    However, I'm having a hard time understanding why the class and constructor are at all needed. Why pull data from a SQL table into PL memory? As that is where the class will need to cache and store the results of that construction parameter SQL SELECT. And once in PL memory, how does the object effectively access, search and use this cached data?
    PL memory is expensive. It is not sharable.
    PL data structures are primitive - these cannot be compared to SQL structures in the form of tables and columns that can be stored in a number of physical ways (index tables, hash tables, partitioned tables, clustered tables, etc). Cannot be indexed like SQL structures using B+tree, bitmap, function and other indexing methods. Cannot be sorted, grouped, analysed, filtered, etc like SQL structured data.
    It makes very little sense to read SQL data into a class and then deal with that data, cached in expensive PL memory, using primitive PL structures.
    And the same would be true if Java or C# was used. The best place for data is inside the SQL engine. That is the most superior environment for data. It can processes more data, scale better, perform better and offer more flexibility, than pulling data from it and then crunch that data using PL or Java or C#.

  • Another question about using objects in SQL queries

    Hi gurus, I need your thoughts on this:
    I have created generic object type "tree" - the constructor takes as a parameter sql query returning "node_id" and "parent_node_id". all records in the table w/out parent_departments (parent_department_id is null) are considered divisions.
    Now if I run the following query:
    SELECT "DEPARTMENT_ID", "PARENT_DEPARTMENT_ID", "DEPARTMENT", tree('select department_id "node_id", parent_department_id "parent_node_id" from departments').oldest_relative("DEPARTMENT_ID") "DIVISION_ID" FROM departments
    my question is: Is the tree object created for every row or does Oracle somehow caches the object since the object itself is not changing but only the parameter for the oldest_relative member function.
    The table only has a few hunderd records and I can't see much of a difference in the execution time btw the query above and query like this:

    where the object is clearly created just ones. (there is probably a better way to do it instead of this join)

  • Some question regarding the DATAPUMP parameter

    Hi,
    I am trying to perform a database import using the EXCLUDE=GRANT parameter but I get the following errors

    SYNTAX?????
    Did you ever consider that syntax can be looked up in the very fine reference manual?

    I don't want to be flippant or rude, but if people want to be professionals in ANY field, the first knowledge they need to acquire is how to locate AND USE+ the fundamental reference materials for that profession. And the most important trait, the one for which they are really hired, is the ability to do independent research, and having a modicum of curiosity that would drive one to do that research. We don't mind helping newbies, and even the most experienced person on this board will run into something they are not familiar with, or occasionally just require a second set of eyes to look at something. But a professional+ needs, above all, a willingness and capability to check the docs. A professional isn't necessarily someone who has all the answers at their fingertips or has a full understanding about every arcane subject in their field. It certainly isn't someone who has an encyclopedia full of memorized answers but little understanding of how it all fits together. It's someone who knows where to find the answers when needed, how to recognize them when he sees them. It's less about knowing than it is about attitude. Everything you asked can be answered in the Oracle Concepts Manual at tahiti.oracle.com. You should bookmark that site.

    Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
    Go to tahiti.oracle.com.
    Drill down to your product and version.
    <b><i><u>BOOKMARK THAT LOCATION</u></i></b>
    Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab you will find the complete documentation library.
    Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
    Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of information is available there.
    Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
    Do the same with the Utilities manual.
    You don't have to read the above in depth. They are <b><i><u>reference</b></i></u> manuals. Just get familiar with <b><i><u>what</b></i></u> is there to <b><i><u>be</b></i></u> referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
    Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
    - Take a look in your alert log. One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them (listed in your alert log) in the Reference Manual.
    - Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
    - When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.
