    The bug report seems to be active, so we will have to wait for a while for the patch... Although there is a proposed patch that seems to remove the UVD error, have you tried it??
    I quote a comment "Nopes. It makes the UVD errors go away, but the boot still gets stuck at the same point. Everything hangs up, requiring me to do a hard reboot."
    The patch did not fix the bug. Honestly, the bug has been there since kernel 3.11.

  • Kernel update problem from 7.00 pl 57 to 75

    Hi
    We've installed ECC 6.0 unicode system on i5/os V5R4. Our kernel patch level is 7.00 57. Now we want to  apply pl 75. We've downloaded SAPEXE.SAR and SAPEXEDB.SAR from SAP Service Marketplace. And we've copied this files to a directory named "kern75" at root of our SAP server. And also we create a file named PART under the directory "kern75" and the content of the file PART is:
    SAPEXE.SAR,
    SAPEXEDB.SAR,
    after this we logon to server with KNPADM and we tried the execute this command:
    LODSAPKRN DEV(STMF) MNTPNT ('/kern75') KRNLIB(SAPKNPUC) USERDEF(YES) LIST('/kern75/PART')
    But this command ended with error. We could not know which is wrong with this command?
    On the other hand, we could not sure kernel library name is true or not...
    We are waiting for your suggestion.

    Hi Thomas,
    Thank you very much for your suggestion about authorization.
    We can run APYR3FIX succesfully, after giving necessary authorization for object RSTOBJ.
    But now, we have a new problem...
    We think that we should run APYSAP after running AYPR3FIX. So we run the command below:
    APYSAP TYPE(KERNEL) SID(KNP) DSTLIB(SAPKNPUC) MODE(INCR)
    But we get an error with this command.
    We gave the current kernel library as DSTLIB parameter. Is this correct?
    And also we run both APYR3FIX and APSAP command as user KNPADM not KNPOFR, Does this cause any problem?
    Best Regards...

  • Problems with key shortcuts after kernel update (can't shutdown wifi)

    Hi! Sorry for my poor english!
    I have 2 problems on my laptop that went out after a kernel update; the first one involves the wireless card (Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01), but I don't think it is important): when I press the key shortcut it switches off only partially, the led remains lighted and with "rfkill list all" i get that is actually only software blocked.
    The second problem is about the key shortcut to switch off the screen: even with xev it isn't recognised anymore.
    I am pretty sure the 2 problems are related; the latest kernel with they were working is 3.5.6-1, in fact if I downgrade to that version I haven't got any problem.
    I have encountered this issue with 3 models of Asus EEEPC: 1015pd (mine), 1215b and 1015cx, (the first two with AR9285, the third with AR9485).
    Thanks for the help ;-)

  • Problems with catalyst on latest kernel update [SOLVED]

    Hi, after the latest kernel update, I haven't been able to install catalyst. I was using catalyst-test, which is outdated now. And with this new kernel, the driver is not working anymore, so I'm using vesa driver for now.
    I'm trying to install the current catalyst package through yaourt, and I get a conflict. The conflict is with catalyst-test which I can't uninstall because of this:
    checking dependencies...
    error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)

    :: qt: requires libgl
    :: wxgtk: requires libgl
    :: xine-lib: requires libgl
    :: xorg-xdriinfo: requires libgl
    If I try to remove these packages, I get more dependencies unsatisfied...
    The solution I can think of is start uninstalling every one of these packages from the unsatisfied dependencies, write them down, and reinstall them once I get the ATI driver correctly installed again.
    Any other ideas on how to fix this?

    Also, everytime I try to reinstall catalyst through yaourt, it downloads the executable from ati.com. Is there a way to avoid this and check if downloaded version is up to date instead of downloading it every time?
    Thanks in advance!
    UPDATE: Ok, I used pacman -Rdd catalyst-test to remove the package, now I'm trying to install catalyst...

    Kernel Label problem...
    Does any one have solution for that?
    I appreciate your help
    regards
    kamal

    Hi udo lang,
    I have downloaded the Kernel file 51031778_3 NW 2004s SR1 Kernel 7.00 Windows Server on IA32 32bit today. I will try to fix the problem by using this kernel.
    I also got reply from Sap that solution for this issue is:
    This is most unusual. Due to the currently running RampUp the
    DVD's could have been updated.
    I suggest that you try the following,
    Download both the Unicode and NonUnicode Kernel files from the
    SAP Service Market Place.
    The Kernel DVD 51031778 contains the Kernel for Unicode and for Non-
    Unicode, as you wrote, in directory "", label:
    "SAP:AKK:700:KERNEL::WINDOWS_X86_64:"
    Please check if you start Unicode Installation. Due to an incorrect
    procedure sapinst requireds both Kernel-CD.
    With the next release will be it correct. If you start a Unicode
    installation it will be a unicode.
    51031792_5 NW 2004s SR1 UC-Kernel 7.00 AIX 64bit
    51031792_1 NW 2004s SR1 Kernel 7.00 AIX 64bit
    Etract them to one directory, like:
    <downloadDIR>/
    kernel/
    KN_WINDOWS_I386/
    KU_WINDOWS_I386/
    CDLABEL.ASC
    LABEL.ASC
    LABELIDX.ASC
    When you ware asked for the kernel DVD, please enter
    <downloadDIR>/kernel
    SAPinst should take the right kernel version for the installation
    automatically.
    You may additionally refer to the below note for reference.
    921593 Inst. SAP NetWeaver 2004s SR1 on UNIX
    If the problem is resolved i will let you know. Thanks for your assistance

  • No sound after (kernel)update 64bit

    Hey I just rebooted my PC the first time after the new kernel update.
    Now sound is not working anymore at all... But the soundcard (Audigy 2 ZS) is still recognized (e.g. via alsamixer), and kmix does not give any error message. Everything seems to work fine, except the fact that there is no sound. Of course I already checked if I muted anything by mistake. Sound is working on Vista (dualboot), so the hardware is alright.
    Any hint what could be the problem?
    PS: I stressed the kernel update in the first line, because I strongly suspect it for being the cause of the problem. The other updates were not that important (samba...).
    But I would like to hear other opinions.
    Greetings, yodo
    Edit: Ok, I manually compiled and installed an older kernel (kernel26-2.6.27.8-1) and sound is working again. It was definitly the kernel's fault! The version(s) I had (have) problems with were kernel26-2.6.27.10-1 and also kernel26-2.6.27.9-1 which I tried before kernel26-2.6.27.8-1.
    Any other users with the same problem?

    Thanks! But actually rebuilding the kernel did not fix anything (for me) - at least not rebuilding kernel26-2.6.27.10-1 or kernel26-2.6.27.9-1. Sound only works after a downgrade to kernel26-2.6.27.8-1 (or below I suppose).

  • Mounting issues after kernel update (2.6.25)

    After installing the recent kernel update, mounting has gone haywire. When I put in a cd (in either of my 2 drives) it doesn't mount. In thunar, when I click on the cd drive, it displays this error:

           In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try

    Also, when booting a few minutes ago, it was stuck on the "checking filesystems" for a few minutes, when it usually does that step almost immediately. I also couldn't mount an iso, this is what happened:
    [root@eric-arch eric]# mount -o loop -t iso9660 /path/to/iso.iso /mnt/iso2
    mount: could not find any device /dev/loop#
    Note: I am not certain that it was caused by the kernel update, but that is the only thing I did to my machine before this started happening.
    Please help asap because I need to do schoolwork which is on a cd.

    jealma wrote:I know the solution to the /dev/loop-problem. The new 2.6.25 kernel has the loop device as a module. Please try a `modprobe loop`, that gives you a /dev/loop. I don't know whether that will be persistent after a reboot, so you may need to add "loop" to the modules-list in /etc/rc.conf.
    That worked, but I still have other issues with cd mounting, so I downgraded my kernel for now.

  • [Solved] Overheating/fan/sensors issues after kernel updates

    Hi all,
    I realise there has been a bit of correspondence on this already.  I'm after some advice for my specific situation:
    1. My laptop is an acer aspire 5315.  I has well understood overheating issues that arrise due to BIOS problems
    2. Fan control and temperature reporting worked perfectly with kernel 2.6.30, stopped working with 2.6.31 - I assume due to the well documented changes made in that release.  The temperature only seems to be read once - at boot.  sensors never reports a change after that; if the temperature is cold at boot the fan never get switched on.  Unfortunately this happens most often.
    3. I tried setting the recommended kernel option (can't relocate the post now).  It didn't help :-?
    4. I have tried upgrading the BIOS but the distribution from acer is a windows executable (won't run under freeDOS) and I do not have windows installed on this PC (not game to try under wine).
    5. I re-installed the old kernel from my pacman cache only to find that my wireless no longer works (fan works just fine though).
    I'm now totally stumped :-/
    I'd like to update my bios and go with the latest kernel but can't see a way without installing windows.
    This might be fixed in an ubuntu kernel release (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/453700) but I'd prefer not to do that switch... perhaps the same fix is coming to arch?
    I'd accept having to pin the kernel to an earlier version but neet to get the wireless working.
    help...
    edit:
    I've now managed to get the kernel backdated correctly (so that wireless works as well as the fan) by re-installing the kernel and firmware together.
    Have configured pacman to igmore future kernel updates
    If anyone has any suggestions on howto update my bios I'd be very greatful.

  • [kernel] kernel update and third party modules management

    Hi all,
            I turned to Archlinux with my new thinkpad X220 just for a few days, while I have used Ubuntu for 4 years. I had never controlled my system in such a degree, and feel happy about it.
           However, I have a question about kernel update, for I had install some modules from AUR with yaourt( e.g. tp_smapi, acpi_call). For my poor knowledge about pacman, I don't know how to handle those modules while I upgrade my kernel. I cannot remember to re-install all of them!
          I think there must be a solution that I didn't found, so I write this thread to ask for help.
          Any help would be appreciate.

    Mr.Elendig wrote:You can use some silly wrapper around pacman that rebuilds them when there is a kernel update. I'm sure someone has written one already.
    Thank you, Mr.Elendig. Do you mean some kind of frontend such as yaourt?
    Or some kind of hooks like this:
    aur/mkinitcpio-vbox 2.0-3 (Out of Date) (29)
        VirtualBox hook for mkinitcpio that rebuilds kernel modules on next reboot
    Using the key words you provided, I searched " kernel upgrade module rebuild " and found that gentoo offically provide a tool called  "module-rebuild" to reinstall external modules. Maybe it's because gentoo always compile source code? But no other results.
    However, now I found what I need to do is just to build the modules listed in the /etc/rc.conf, and that is acceptable. Maybe after a few weeks of study, I can find out my way to solve this problem.
    And thanks for your reply.

    I'm on Nvidia hardware but I'm also suddenly getting the same error after an update so it seems likely this is related.  Per your suggestion I downgraded the kernel (and I know it worked with this version):
    uname -a
    Linux ShawkatArch 3.14.2-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Apr 27 11:28:44 CEST 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    but I'm getting the same error.  However my glxinfo indicates direct rendering is OK:
    glxinfo | grep direct
    direct rendering: Yes
    glxinfo32 | grep direct
    direct rendering: Yes
    Portion of Steam errors:

  • Installation Problems, Permissions Problems, SW Update Problems, Solved

    I'm posting here to relate some problems I've had and how I ultimately solved them, in the hope that it might help somebody.
    The following relates to OS 10.5.4 on an imac PPC 1.8.
    It started (at least the first symptom I noticed was) with Super Duper not working to auto-clone my drive, because the first thing SD does before running a clone job is to repair permissions on the subject drive. The repair permissions task failed with "the underlying task failed" error.
    So I tried the manually repair permissions from Disk Utility and got the same "the underlying task failed" error. It's a bit alarming not to be able to repair permissions. I tried a reboot, no change. This persisted for at least a week as I didn't have time to aggressively go after it.
    Then I purchased DiskWarrior (again - owned it years ago in Sys 9 days), as in my experience that was the "if all else fails" fix for everything directory-related. I booted from another blessed drive (do people still say that anymore? lol, showing my age) and ran DW on the drive in question. Sure enough DW found and fixed about 150 problems. Great I think, reboot from the original drive, run Disk Utility, repair permissions...nope! Same error. What now? I checked the console installer log for more and all the errors looked like "failure to write" permission type errors. Grr.
    Verify Disk ran OK. I checked the SMART status and it was OK, as I was by now worrying about the physical drive.
    Then along comes the 10.5.5 incremental update in Software Update and I get the following error: "The Installer could not install some files in "/" check permissions". Doh! Same thing with the Java update. Since I can't repair permissions I'm stuck.
    So now I have only one course of action (well maybe there were others, but this is what I did) which was to do an Archive and Install. My OS X DVD is 10.5.0 so that is what I got of course when I reinstalled.
    Running Disk Utility after the A&I allowed me to repair permissions successfully. Some progress. But now I had a slew of updates to get back to the present version of everything. Most installed successfully, except the 10.5.5 combo update. For that I got "package contents could not be validated". Rats.
    So I decided (after reading here about SW update problems especially with combos) to manually download the 10.5.5 combo. For some reason running SW Update under 10.5.0 gave me download rates of 32kb/s, where I am used to 1.1MB/s. Projected download time 3 hrs....no way! So I booted back to my 10.5.4 clone and downloaded the 612MB at normal speed there. I downloaded the 10.5.1 incremental as well just in case.
    Finally I was able to run the 10.5.5 combo (manually downloaded) successfully. Check Disk Utility and repair permissions...all good. Run SW Update and get the Java update, all good.
    Deep breath. Phew.
    So there you have it. I was able to fix it all. I probably didn't need to buy DW (but it's so great I'm ok with that) as I conclude now that the A&I ultimately was the real fix. It was a very frustrating experience though, especially with SW update giving me a bad download.
    I'm hoping that this post might now show up in searches and help somebody out there.
    Cheers
    G

    I don't think you have either of those kernels... as they don't exist.  I assume you meant that you are using 3.10.5 and supposedly have 3.10.6 installed.  You issue is a bit of a catch 22, as you are unable to mount the ESP (no vfat module matching your running kernel), yet mounting the ESP would be required in order to properly udpate.  I imagine that you actually have the correct kernel as /boot/vmlinuz-linux.  But whatever mechanism you use to copy it from that location to the ESP didn't work.
    You are going to have to boot from live media, and fix this from a chroot.  Please search around for how to do this, as this information is all over the place.
    Looks like I'm in for a treat. I chroot-ed, did a full upgrade in case there was an even newer kernel (and there was, 3.10.7). After the upgrade I copied /boot/vmlinuz-linux, /boot/initramfs-linux.img and /boot/initramfs-linux-fallback.img to /boot/efi/EFI/arch/ renaming the files vmlinuz-arch.efi, initramfs-arch.img, initramfs-arch-fallback.img respectively. I unmounted everything and rebooted. Now reFINd freezes as soon as it tries to boot Arch.

  • Automatic recompiling of kernel module after kernel update.

    Hello everyone,
    i tried to search for it but without success...
    my question is - is it possible to set it up somehow that aur package would recompile after kernel update?
    The package I would like to rebuild is rt3090 which is module for my wifi card. It is very annoying to rebuild it manually. I know that my fglrx module does it automaticaly but how to set it?
    Thank all of you for any advise.

    Thank you :-) It looks ok, I will try DKMS as soon as I get some free time. If there was any problem, I would tell you.
    BTW: I use catalyst mainly because of saving energy management, which is of course better for my netbook. My card is too new to be fully supported by the opensource driver.
    EDIT:
    I solved the situation by upgrading my system, I tried in-kernel module rt2800pci. In the previous kernels it didn't work well with my crappy ralink rt3090 wifi card, but that's been improved :-) so I do not need rebuild the package anymore even because this module isn't compatible with newest kernel.
    I also learnt how to write my own hook from archwiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mkinitcpio) so if the new module didn't work I would try it.
    The final solution = replace module rt3090sta by rt2800pci.
    Thanks! Arch has very powerful community :-)

  • DKMS - module not compiled after kernel update

    Hello all,
    I'm using a USB Wifi Adapter which has very bad support : D-Link DWA160 B2
    I have followed the instruction from this excellent guide to add the driver sources to DKMS, to get it compiled automatically after all kernel update:
    http://bernaerts.dyndns.org/linux/229-u … er-to-dkms
    Unfortunatly the 2 last kernel upgrade did not trigger the driver compile.
    There is no DKMS logs, and everything seems to be well configured.
    My DKMS conf file:
    /root/driver-dkms
    [root@purelight driver-dkms]# more dkms.conf
    MAKE="make KERNELDIR=/lib/modules/${kernelver}/build"
    CLEAN="make clean"
    BUILT_MODULE_NAME=rt5572sta
    BUILT_MODULE_LOCATION=os/linux/
    DEST_MODULE_LOCATION=/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/
    PACKAGE_NAME=rt5572sta
    PACKAGE_VERSION=2.601
    REMAKE_INITRD=no
    [root@purelight 2.601]# pwd
    /var/lib/dkms/rt5572sta/2.601

    It seems that there is nothing relevant in the logs:

    pacman.log:[2012-10-06 20:42] installed dkms (2.2.0.3-12)
    Any help would be nice, thanks!

    Are you using systemd? If so, you might have to reboot twice. The catalyst-dkms package (video driver for amd cards) in [community] currently has the same problems. I'd suggest for you to read the last few pages in that thread to see background information:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57084&p=177
    Yes I do use systemd. Since I'm using a quite recent installation, it was included by default.
    At the next kernel upgrade I'll try this trick of reboot twice, and see if it works.
    Cheers!

  • Device-mapper not working after kernel update

    Hi, yesterday i've upgraded kernel to 2.6.36 and I was so happily so i rebooted immediatly, but it ended up with error. that it can't found /dev/mapper/archarray-archroot, which is, of course my root partition.
    I'm using to raid1 partitions:
    /dev/md0 with boot ext2 partitions (archboot partition)
    /dev/md1 with LVM (volume group arrcharay, partitions archroot, archvar and archdata)
    When in sandbox i've tried lsmod and i see, that i have raid1,ext2,ext4(root partition),md_mod and dm_mod loaded(and some more of course), so i think there's nothing missing to fire-up root partition.
    I've tried to boot up install (from USB stick) and mount root patition with following:
    modprobe dm_mod raid1
    mdamdm --examine --scan >> /etc/mdam.conf
    mdassemble
    vgscan
    vgchange -ay
    And it worked, so my disk nor LVM setting is not broken.
    Only thing that i think i can did wrong, is that i've commented /dev/md1 entry in /etc/mdam.conf. I was confused by "name=archiso:1" because i haven't use "archiso" anywhere when creating LVM volumes. So i thought i will try it, and if anything go bad, i will undo this. But it worked ... until kernel update.

    It was problem with my badly edited /etc/mdadm.conf, so I'm sorry for this.
