Keyboard shortcuts on non-US keyboards

I have been using Lightroom for some time now, and as with all programs I want to use the keyboard shortcuts.
These are fairly straightforward in LR, and most of them work like a charm, but some, which use non-alphanumeric keys such as [ ] / \ - = and many more do not work on a non-US keyboard (in this case Danish). Most of these keys have moved around quite significantly on my keyboard, and not only are they mapped differently, but the physical layout of the keyboard (and labeling of course) is also different from the standard US-keyboard.
My question is: How (or where) do I find the right combinations?
As an example, zoom.
Zoom in is Ctrl/Cmd+= (equals sign)
Zoom out is Ctrl/Cmd+- (minus sign)
Zooming out works nicely in spite of the minus key being different from the standard US-keyboard (located in the lower row next to the Shift key where the US key is in the top row)
But I haven't been able to zoom in. The equal sign is in the top row, but as a shifted zero, so also different from the US keyboard. No matter what combos I use, I cannot zoom in using the keyboard.
Same thing goes for a lot of other shortcuts. Like toggle filters which is backslash on the US-keyboard. I have a backslash, but as an AltGr-key combined with < and >, and when I use it, it does something completely different, namely shifting between two compared images, a function which I can't even find on the list of keyboard shortcuts http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom/keyboard_shortcuts.html
Does anybody have a clue about:
- Where I can find keyboard shortcuts for foreign keyboards
- If I can remap keys to do as expected
- Do anything else to get shortcuts to work
And no, changing to a US keyboard does not help. My keys are physically different and labeled differently, and shifting does not work anyway...
Martin

Martin,
I assume you're using LR in English (I don't think there's Danish)?
You can achieve what you want by building/modifying the TranslatedStrings.txt file with your modifications in there. For all languages LR is translated into, such a TranslatedStrings.txt file exists (in the "\Resources\xx\" directory below the program installation path), but for English it would have to be created (there is no \en\ directory below\Resources\).
KeyboardTamer does nothing else than modify the TranslatedStrings.txt file, but it can only do it for shortcuts provided for in the PlugIn. You could create a file "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.3\Resources\en\TranslatedStrings.txt" and describe the different shortcuts in there.
The problem is to find out what you have to write into there. For this, you could take lines out of a TranslatedStrings.txt file of another language (i.e. German), and put them (possibly changed) into the English file. Note that only changes must be present in TranslatedStrings.txt, the rest comes from the program.
Example:
The line describing the shortcut to zoom in in Library is coded as follows in the German TranslatedStrings.txt:
"$$$/AgLibrary/KBSC/incrementThumbSize=#"
I changed it to be
"$$$/AgLibrary/KBSC/incrementThumbSize=$"
because # is not accessible without a modifier key on the German keyboad, hence the shortcut does not work,
So the lines to be entered in the file are not that easy to find, but with some creativity (i.e. searching for "=.....", where .... is the shortcut-key that does not work) you should be able to solve most of them. Also, the so created TranslatedStrings.txt should additionally be saved in some other place than the program directory as well, becaus after a new installation it would have to be copied into the resources directory again.

  • Using shortcuts on non-latin keyboards - is it going to be solved?

I googled that a lot of people have inconvenience with the fact that keyboard shortcuts become unavailable when switching to non-english keyboard. E.g. after adding cyrillic keyword I need to switch back to english keyboard to go on working with LR.
I saw LR1, LR2, LR3 and LR4. This problem always annoyed users all over the world.
What's the current situation with it? Is someone going to solve this?
I don't want to install plugins. I don't want to map custom keyboard shortcuts. I just want to have shortcuts working on any keyboard layout. Is it possible?

Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.17] and download it to the desktop.
Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to '''Mozilla Firefox''' and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).
Then reboot and delete the folder called '''Mozilla Firefox '''at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.
After you complete the installation, go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page and update those where necessary.
However, before you go that route, here are a few tips to make FF4 look like the previous version.
    * Right click a blank part of the tab bar and click "Tabs on top" to remove the checkmark. Tabs will subsequently reappear below the search bar.
    * Repeat the same steps, but click the top one called "Menu bar". This will reinstate the text links at the top.
    * To rearrange the layout, repeat the same steps again and choose "Customize". A panel will open and while that remains onscreen, you can move elements like toolbars, buttons etc around and place them anywhere you wish. You can also drag anything you don't like into that panel and add anything you want by dragging it out of there.
    * To replace the status bar at the foot of the page, install this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/
Firefox 3.6.17 will be supported for a while yet, but will eventually fall by the wayside.

  • Volume level shortcuts on non-Apple keyboard

    Hello.
I've connected windows-type keyboard (Logitech) to my iMac and there are no volume level control buttons (volume up and volume down).
Is there any way to assign a shortcuts for any button on the keyboard to control the volume level? This would help very much because volume is frequently used thing.
    Thank you in advance.

It is possible to re-map keyboards — have a look at . However, it's a minefield that could leave you with a non-functioning Mac.
I'd seriously recommend that it would be quicker, easier and cheaper simply to replace the keyboard with one built for the Mac!
    Sorry!

  • How to create a volume shortcut for non-mac keyboards? Sound control? F7?

    Hello everybody,
This has been bothering me for a while. I have a third party editing keyboard and I would like to be able to control the volume with three keys just as the apple keyboards do.
I would like to make F6,F7 and F8: mute, vol -, and vol +.
I have tried and tried and no luck. I tried using keyboard and mouse shortcuts section of system prefs but I do not know the "menu title" of the volume controls.
If anybody has any ideas I would love help.
    Thanks so much,
    James

    Hi, James.
Unfortunately, none of the F-keys can be set to the functions of the Volume keys using the Keyboard Shortcuts preference pane.
Mac OS X does not include native support for assigning a macro or script to either an Fkey or other keyboard shortcut. For that, you need a third-party tool, like iKey, Quickeys, or Spark, the latter suggested by DPSG-Scout.
You'd also need a set of scripts to assign to the keys, e.g. scripts to increase, decrease, or mute the volume. Those are tricky to write since System Preferences does not expose much to AppleScript. One would need to use the "GUI Scripting (System Events)" technique to create a script to change the settings in the Sound preferences pane of System Preferences.
Automator does offer a "Set Computer Volume" action, which allows you to adjust the various Volume settings (Output volume, Alert Volume, Input Volume) to a specific set of levels, including Mute for Output Volume. However, it won't handle the idea of pressing the same key multiple times to either increase or decrease the volume, ala the Volume Adjustment keys. In your case, it's most useful for Mute. Automator Workflows can be saved as applications, which I believe can then be assigned to Fkeys in iKey or QuickKeys.
Someone may have written a more advanced Automator action for adjusting volume than that provided with Mac OS X. Search Apple's Automator Action Downloads. If you find one, instructions on adding actions to Automator can be found in Automator Help.
You could search ScriptBuilders to see if someone has already written scripts for the functions you need, then use iKey or Quickeys to assign such to keyboard shortcuts.
Finally, you could solve the problem another way: buy a set of external speakers that has its own separate volume and mute control. For example, my trusty old Monsoon MM1000s have their own volume control with a mute button.
    Good luck!

  • Shortcuts on NON-US Keyboards

    Hi there,
I know there are already some topics about keyboard shortcuts, but all that seemed relavant to my problem are aleady closed...
I am using apperture on a MBP with a Swiss-german Keyboard and english as default language.
All applications adapt their shortcuts to the keyboard layout installed. Not apperture. Even the shortcut overview apple provides proved to be wrong in some parts.
To promote an image in a stack should work by pressing command + ö, which is just a row under the keys of the US command + [
    What works is command + option + 5 (option + 5 equals [ on a swiss keyboard)
This shortcut works with the same "characters" but not with the same keys, other shortcuts don't work that way.
I think remapping all the shortcuts in the system preferences in not a satisfying option, well it may be the only option I have at the moment.
Is there a full list of swiss shortcuts? Does anyone like to help setting up a new one? I havn't found quite a lot af shortcuts so far.
Does anyone have a clue wheater that is being adressed soon? I mean a pro application should be propperly localised, doesn't it? And localised shortcuts are a big part of localisation!
    Regards!
Mac Book Pro Core 2 Duo 2.33   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I am using apperture on a MBP with a Swiss-german
Keyboard and english as default language.
    Me too.
At least for some menu commands, you can define another key combo via System Preferences. For example, I set Show/Hide Loupe to "option-L", Decrease Zoom to "option-,", and Increase Zoom to "option-." (if you have a Swiss German keyboard, you'll see why this set of shortcuts can make sense... .
Simply open System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts and add the above settings for Aperture. Aperture will even show the new defs in its menus.
    FWIW.

  • Desktop Shortcut in non-Default browser?

    Good Evening,
I have Google Chrome set as my default browser in Lion.  To access certain DOD websites I have to use Safari since it can access my PKI smartcard and chrome can't.  I'd like to create a few desktop shortcuts for these websites to open in Safari, not chrome.  I can drag the URL to the desktop and it creates the shortcut.  I right clicked on the icon and changed the "open with" to Safari but when I then double click the icon it still opens in the default browser, Chrome.
Any mac geniuses out there who know of a script or something to force those specific desktop shortcuts to open in Safari(not default browser) vs Chrome (default browser)?
    Thank you!

This isn't working for me for a URL I want to force open in Firefox (Chrome is my default).  Right-click "open with" works.  But, even after changing the "open with" in "get info" to Firefox, it opens in Chrome.
Changing ".webloc" to ".webbookmark" broke it entirely.  It does open in FF, but as an XML file that outputs this:
    <plist version="1.0"><dict><key>URL</key><string>[URL]</string></dict></plist>
    Any ideas?  Thanks.

I was trying to put "C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\SelfServicePlugin\SelfService.exe" into the startup folder for members of a specific group. That file exists, it's there, I've put the short cut to it manually into Startup and it works. This

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, this event is most likely related to permissions. We need to make sure that users can access the shortcut file.
Besides, which startup folder do we use?
As stated in the following thread by Darien, Windows has two Startup folders:
    Windows has two Startup folders.
    One located in
c:\users\xxxx\appdata\roaming\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs\startup.  This one is owned and controlled by the interactive user; therefore, he or she can write to this folder.
The other one is located at
c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs\startup.  This folder is a system folder in which interactive users must provided elevated credentials.

  • GPP Shortcuts using Mapped Drive Paths

I have been using Group Policy Preferences to map drives to a network share.  I then have a number of shorcuts created to items on that network share using the fixed drive letter.
So for example Shortcut1 points to L:\program\program.exe.  Mapped drives were used rather than unc paths for a number of reasons.
This works correctly with XP SP3.
On a Win7 client the shorcuts are not created and event log shows:-
'0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified.'
I'm guessing the order in which the preferences are applied may of changed in Win7?

I'm having the same issue here.  Win 7 SP1 Ent Workstations, Windows Svr 2008 R2 AD  And tested successfully ONLY under a domain admin account.  It appears the Policy and the GPP Shortcut functionality does work at least in a very specfic
scenario.  Anyone still working on this or monitoring this thread?  If no, I'll start my own new one.
    Policy looks like this:
    Action: Update:
    Name: C:\Users\Public\Desktop\<Shortcut Name>
    Target type: File System Object
    Location: <Specify full parth>
Target path: Z:\<Path to desired folder>
    Arguments: <Blank>
Start in: Z:\<same path as target>
    Shortcut key: None
    Run: Normal Window
    Commment: <Blank>
Icon file path: Z:\<same path again>\Library.ico
    Icon index: 0
Common tab has only "Run in logged-on user's security context (user policy option) checked.
Drive Mappings are done by login script .bat file containing simple Net use commands.  And drive is confirmed connected on login. Users have a mix of modify and read\execute only rights to the target folder.  The GPO is security filtered to
limited test users, specfically identified here,  not by group membership.  Regardless, the two of those accounts are my own, one a standard, and the other my domain admin account which has full control of the folder.  The only user
for which this policy implements correctly, is my Domain Admin account.
For all others I have the following in the event viewer:

  • Group Policy Shortcut Error

    Hi All
I am trying to create a shortcut via GP to point to our print server, so people can connect to optional printers. we have the following settings set in the policy.

    Path: Desktop
    Target: "\\server"
    Icon Path: C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll

    Run: normal window
But this is not working and is throwing the following error in a gpresult: Result: Failure (Error Code: 0x80070002)

  • Shortcuts for iTunes

    Hi
Is there a shortcut for the ratings?
It's very time consuming doing it with the mouse!
    Cheers

Keyboard shortcuts? None that I'm aware of. If you make sure the ratings column is visible when listening then you can just click the appropriate star - one click does it all so I can't see how that should take up much time. If you want to rate the Album then use List Mode, with the Artwork column showing and wide enough to displaying the rating stars/placeholders. Again one click is all it takes.

  • Group policy using to create Chome shortcuts

    Hi all,
I require assistance please with a webpage to open in Chrome and to be on all users desktop to stop kids deleting.
Currently I have the following in group policy but it fails to work the url is http://thirdspacelearning.com/user/login
    Name: Thirdspacelearning shortcut
    Target type: File System
    Object Location: All Users Desktop
    Target path: "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" http://thirdspacelearning.com/user/login
    Start in: "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application"
    Shortcut key: None
    Run: Normal Window

    Hi,
Based on my test, the shortcut setting you post could work correct.
First we should confirm that the client that user login has installed the chrome. If chrome has not been installed on the client, the shortcut will not appear in the client.
    Besides, we could use the
gpresult /h GPReport.html command to generate a Resultant Set of Policy (RSoP) report. We could check if the GPO and the shortcut setting applied from the report.
    Best Regards,
    Erin

  • Cut/paste won't work

    I have DirectorMX2004 10.1. I'm using a Mac PPC, the last
line of the G5s. The cut and paste features will not work no matter

someone's aware of? Or are there settings that I could reset? I am

Sorry, I'm actually copying and pasting. From the score, I am

  • Leopard won't go past the grey apple and the paddle wheel.

*Problem with start up on Leopard 10.5*
This Imac only goes to the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning paddle wheel and no further. What can I do?
Last night the screen froze over and I couldn’t force quit, so I switched off. Was only running safari, after installing some graphics upgrade from Apple.
Today I’ve tried switching on with :=
    1. D. Hardware diagnostics. No problems found.
    2. Shift - Start in Safe mode. No effect. Grey apple and paddle wheel.
    3. Command + S. Provides a text screen which end with
CSRHIDTransitionDriver: start booting in single user … will wait for window Server
and nothing happens however long it's left
3a. Command + V. Verbose mode? as above but, after the reference to firewire Lucent the CSRHIDTransitionDriver has 4 lines:
    CSRHIDTransitionDriver::start [-v]
    CSRHIDTransitionDriver::switchToHCIMode legacy
    USBF 2.517 CSRHIDTransitionDriver etc etc
    CSRHIDTransitionDriver ... done
    4. C to start from CD. Repaired disk and disk permissions.
    5. Command Option P R. Reset the PRAM
    6. Shift. Safe boot again. No effect again. Grey apple and paddle wheel.
    7. Command Option O F to open firmware. Well, it didn’t work. Nothing happened and I did not reset nvram.
    8. Tried to restart from 10.4 cd but this didn’t help.
    9. Command + S. Again. Provides a text screen which end with CSRHIDTransitionDriver: start booting in single user … will wait for window Server
Any suggestion how to cure this will be greatly appreciated.
Or, how to set about reinstalling Leopard while preserving as much data as poss.

Are you calling Single User Mode what I understand to be Single User Mode?
What happens if you restart the machine holding the command (Apple logo, cloverleaf) key together with the S key? Do you get a command line? If you do, you should be able to use
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306857
If you don't get a command line, are you using an Apple wired keyboard to hit the shortcut? Non-Apple keyboards and wireless keyboards may not be able to activate the keyboard sequence.
If you are getting the command line without results, the spacing fo the command is critical. I will show you with the underscore as in: _ where to put the space:
    /sbin/fsck_-fy
    /sbin/mount-uw/
    rm-rf/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/ApplicationEnhancer.bundle
It is important you observe the upper/lowercase spellings above.

  • How to customize key bindings, say emacs-like.

I have been able to install keyconfig, but I can't find the code for simple things like:
    forward-char
    backward-char
    move-beggining-of-line
    move_end-of-line
    and other emacs-like commands.
    The page
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyconfig_extension:_Thunderbird
has a long list of command I can shortcut, but none of the simple ones I need to navigate
the composition window, in emacs-like style.

Yes, left and right arrows do the job, as well as Home and End keys. However, being a regular emacs user, it takes me less time and comes more natural to find C-f, C-b, C-a and C-e on the keyboard.
I actually have TB on two machines, home and work. In one of them the emacs-like key bindings work, but not on the other machine, even though they are running the same version of Mac OS and TB.
