L&T stops  FCP

When ever I try to use L&T it opens and two seconds after I get the color will of death and FCP stops responding.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

When I use log and transfer for my HVX200, I first make sure that both P2 cards
appear in Finder. Sometimes it's necessary to retry a couple of times. Once I can
see the media in Finder, then I launch FCP and everything works perfectly.
What kind of camera to you have?

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.2 upgrade stopped FCP... reinstall FCP fixed the problem

Very strange fault occurred after upgrading to 10.6.2: Final Cut Pro 7 crashed immediately at startup with:
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE at 0x0000000000000000
I tried a number of fixes, none of which made any difference. A few others seem to have had problems with FCP & one source recommended rolling back to 10.6.1 by reinstalling 10.6.0 and then upgrading to 10.6.1. This I was loathe to do. On a hunch I reinstalled FCP after turning off what extras I could, such as the audio content to save time. It took a while but fixed the problem.
I have no idea why the program failed in this way, of course.

  • How to stop FCP exported videos from having a popping noise?

I have made a video in FCP X and when I export the video there is popping in the audio. How can I change the video audio to aiff so it wont pop? It's the actual video's audio, not imported sound. I know how to split the audio and video, but it did not help me at all. I have tried everything I can think of including changing the sound from surround to stereo. Help would be greatly appreciated. This is the first time I have run into this problem.

It actually allowed me to export a different one, but not this one.

  • Does FCP assume interlaced video if frame size happens to coincide with PAL?

I have a QuickTime MOV file that has a frame size of 720x576, at 25 fps. It's actually a series of full-frame JPEG images, so it's progressive video.
When I add it to the timeline in FCP-X, it shows up as PAL 25i - ie. FCP thinks it's interlaced.
My timeline is PAL 25p, so the source video is being de-interlaced by FCP when it shouldn't be, which is leading to image quality degredation.
Is there any way to stop FCP from assuming this progressive video is interlaced?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi,
MJPEG is simply a series of JPEG images. If you pull one apart in a hex editor, look for the bytes that start with 0xFFD8 - this is the JPEG Start-of-Image marker. Extract that section, until the following JPEG End-of-Image marker (0xFFD9), save it as a file, give it a .JPG extension  and voila, a fully standards compliant JPEG image.
Images I know about - it's video that's foxing me!
The incoming video is an arbitrary size - I could make it 512x512 for example. If I do that, and leave everything else the same, FCP treats it as *progressive*. It's only the 720 x 576 file that FCP is *assuming* to be interlaced.
    Here: a 512x512 mjpeg.
On the timeline - note, FCP does *not* assume it's interlaced this time:
I know the 720x576 file isn't interlaced: it's a series of full frame images.
So: any ideas how I tell FCP to stop treating the input as interlaced?
(Many thanks for your assistance by the way, it is appreciated.)

  • I cant' export well fcp project in FLV file FCP is not aswering

Hy, when I did a final cut pro project, I export it well in Quick Time conversion to have .mov file.
But If I want to have a flv file after doing my fcp project, and try to export in flv, Final cut is taking a long time and after few minutes doesn't answering.
Can you help me, I have a lot of files to export first in .mov and after in flv.
    Thank you

Hy Dave, I have no encoder, I'am doing export via conversion quicktime (I have quicktime pro) and usually I did it for .mov, but when I ask him FLV options, he is doing it but slowly and also he is not answering so you have to stop fcp, it is not usefull. thank you to tell me if you know exactly what I have to do. My issue is to convert in flv files when I finish the fcp project (to give to people who have a website for example and who didn't want .mov file who is too large).

  • How do you move an Event Library without moving the physical media

I've got a large library of media that needs to be organized, with new keywords.  I have multiple people on different computers attacking portions of the media all stored on a single raid, accessed via gigabit ethernet.  When the libraries are created on each computer, the media is kept in it's original place.  Because the drive is networked, FCP X won't let me place the Event Library on the drive, though I can access the media.  It will also not let me move or duplicate the libraries to the networked drive.  If I connect a drive locally, I can move, copy or duplicate the Event Library, but, here's the problem, instead of copying the alias' to the media, and keeping it like the original event library, it copies the full media into the new library, unnecessarily.
Has anybody found how to copy the Copy, Move or Duplicate the Event Libraries without moving the actual media to the new Library?  I'd like to copy the new libraries to the networked drive where the media is stored and then relink the files.  Then I could merge each computers Library into a master library.
Does that make sense to anybody?  There has to be a way to stop FCP X from unnecessarily copying the media.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but - Did you uncheck 'Copy files to Final Cut Events Folder' when importing into your project?

  • Suggestions for setting up external storage for video editing please?

I am just starting up as a one-man video-editing business, using a 24 inch iMac running Snow Leopard, with Final Cut Studio. I have realised I'll need an external hard drive for HD footage, and I also need to get some back-up solution in place. Looking for speedy i/o, I would like to connect via the ethernet port (if only eSata was included in the iMac, eh!)
I've been planning to get a Drobo, but looking around the forums I see that people say it's too slow for using as a working drive to keep all my source footage, so I've been looking at the G-tech 4 Tb, as it says it is designed for media-content production. Does anyone know if I could use two of the drives for working from and two as back up? Or would it be better to keep back-up entirely seperate, and get a Drobo for that for the G-tech to back up to?
But I am also wondering whether a Mac Mini could be a worthwhile addition to this set up? I find myself sitting around waiting for rendering to complete on clips in my timeline (not to mention exporting to Quicktime conversion!), and I wondered if I put a Mac mini with Xserve installed (Apple store offers this with two 500gb hard drives inside), maybe I could farm the rendering out to the mini while I get on with editing on my iMac? That would require two installations of FCP, which I thought was allowed, but just today in a forum I saw that one would have to be a laptop... anyone have any suggestions for getting rendering done without stopping FCP from doing other things simultaneously?
Also I don't know if that arrangement is even feasible... I see all these things like Xsan and Artbox... as a one workstation editing suite, does FCP handle all the dataflows for external working drive and external back ups okay without having to introduce more controllers?
And can anyone explain to me how I could set up an ethernet connection to an external hard drive, or does that require the extra controllers mentioned above? I've seen it said that you can do it via ethernet, but haven't seen how you can actually go about doing it.
Thanks for overlooking my newbie quality, any answers received with humble gratitude!
    Cheers, Syd

    Hi there,
as NLEdit said, there will be loads of answers to this.
IMO i'd avoid drobo like the plague. G tech drives have served me incredibly well working on a huge variety of broadcast projects (just over the water from you in Bristol), I've had no probs with FW800 when using DVCproHD, pro res is ok, sometimes a little slow with multiple layers and of course it eats up storage space. so I'd go for 2 4tb drives, keep the backup one in a different location.
one tip that has saved me countless times is to format them as follows:-
    mac os extended (not journalled)
    create 2 partitions
partition 1 - make this small (1gig) and call it "drive a - do not use"
partition 2 - the rest of available storage and call "drive a"
this is because the boot sector of the drive is within the first partition and with this method if it goes down it can be re erased without losing all your footage.
If you call your backup drive the exact same name and have the exact same folder structure, you will not have to relink if you get a problem.
Ignore getting a mac mini for rendering, won't help at all in FCP. instead I would make every attempt you can at buying a mac pro rather than an imac. much more expansion/speed possibilities and a more robust solution.
    best of luck
    Andy

  • Client has given me 4:3 and 16:9

    Hi,
A client has given me a stack of clips in 4:3 and 16:9. They are .MOD files which are easily converted to Quicktime but what do I do re: editing? Can I edit the clips as they are then output in the same ratio? I have not come across this before because most clients shoot 4:3 on their miniDv cameras (they are home vids). Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I try to begin this project!
    Thankyou!

    Hi GillFox
You don't say whether the client wants the final output as 4:3 or 16:9. But in either case, there are two options. Your can change the apect ratio of the "wrong" file so that it's correct and fills the screen, or you can allow the "wrong" file to live as it is, showing as letterbox with black bars top and bottom in the case of 16:9 in a 4:3 screen, or as pillar box with black bars down the sides if it's 4:3 in a 16:9 screen.
Create your project using the setup you want it to be, 4:3 or 16:9. Make sure the first shot you put in is the correct aspect ratio for the sequence, to stop FCP asking you if you want to alter the setup. When you're ready, add a wrong AR clip to the timeline. If you are happy with the letterbox or pillar box arrangement, that's it. You don't have to do anything more.
Otherwise, double click the clip in the timeline to put it into the Canvas. Click the Motion tab above the Canvas, and increase the scale setting so that the image fills the screen. Somewhere between 133 and 140 should do it.
If the main action is then in the wrong place in the frame you can adjust position using the Center control in the Motion tab. You'll get a quality hit on the wrong AR material, but that's the price you pay.
There's actually a third way that's the simplest of all, but although it fills the screen it stretches the "wrong" picture either horizontally or vertically to fit, so that 4:3 into 16:9 is stretched left-right and people look short and fat, or 16:9 into 4:3 stretches the pictures up-down which makes them look tall and thin. They might object less to the latter! To do this toggle the tick in the Anamorphic column of the bin to match the project's setting. This method is definitely not recommended.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need to compress XDCAM in compressor 4.1.3. Installed ProApps, but no XDCAM selection. How do I proceed?

I'm normally a linux user, using Mac to get some sample FCP-produced clips.
    I have FCP 10.1.3, Compressor 4.1.3 on OS X 10.9.5.
    I've installed ProAppsCodecs.dmg.
After installation of the proapps codecs, I didn't find the xdcam formats in the list of choices.
Shut down and restarted FCP and Compressor, xdcam still missing.
Shut down FCP and Compressor, re-installed the proapps codecs, restarted FCP and compressor, xdcam still missing.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4714 indicated SoftwareUpdate... should be run; that required a restart.
20 minutes later, started FCP and Compressor, xdcam still missing.
Ran through the combinations of starting/stopping FCP and compressor and reinstalling the proapps codecs above (on the theory that the reboot maybe could enable things). Xdcam still missing.
I'm out of ideas, anyone know how to add XDCAM to compressor?

I tried "this", but it let to a page containing only the word "Gone".
I ran wget on that link, which reported the same:

  • Is identifying (personal) information inserted by FCPX?

I finished some projects, exported them, compressed them (using Compressor 4) and imported them into iTunes.  When I bring them into iTunes they are automatically classified as "Home Videos."  I used "Get Info" to go in and change that, and while doing so I noticed that my name is listed as "Composer" under the info "tab" in Get Info window.
I don't know if iTunes is doing that or FCPX.  I don't think it can have anything to do with my camcorders.  Anyway, if iTunes is doing that, I don't care as it is unimportant.  But, if FCPX is putting my name or other personal information (like my location), I'd like to know what's included and how to stop that.
So, is FCPX including any personal information (like name, location, etc.) in the videos I create using FCPX?  Like in the metadata or whatever information is included with the files I export?  If so, how do I stop it?  And how can I easily view whatever information is included with these video files I export from FCPX?
    Thanks

The esiest would be to make sure the correct meta data is there from the start in FCPX
How do you do that? How do you stop FCP from entering the user name for instance?
I guess you use the Edit Share Fields... dialog?
Select the Share properties for a Project, then:
    And then:
These defaults are Global, even though you set then from the Project..

  • Changing a clip's speed in the timeline...

I tried searching for this and looking around in the preferences but couldn't find anything.
When I change a clip's speed in the timeline, how do stop FCP from shifting all the other clips that follow on the timeline?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Warren. I"m not sure if there is an easy way to undo this, but one thing you can do is just copy the clip into a new sequence, make the speed change and then paste it back into place in the original sequence. If you're slowing it down, you'll have to shrink the duration of the clip some to make it fit in its original location.

  • Naming at import

So I am running into the issue of FCPx automatically renaming all of my clips using a time stamp.  I had never had this issue before, but believe it may have started when the import function was merged.  There doesn't seem to be a way to override this behaviour, or show the original file names in the event browser.  This is very unhelpful as I try to organize a shoot with clips from multiple DSLRs.
Is there any way to stop FCP renaming my files?

Use the camera import function to batch import selectively and then

  • Reconnecting video but not audio

I moved my original video files onto an external drive and then when I attempted to reconnect the files again it only connects the video part of each lost file and the audio of the same video clips remains greyed out when viewed from the timeline.
Obviously this has something to do with the fact that my FCP capture scratch folders for audio and video of the same clips are different. I'm not sure how I end end up with two separate files so my first question is how can I get video and audio to be captured into just one file like I used to and much prefer?
Secondly how do I reconnect my audio again? Each time I run reconnect media it automatically tries to connect the video aspect and ignores the audio.
    Enock

In System Settings, Scratch disk tab and deselect 'Capture Audio and Video to Separate files'
This will stop FCP splitting the captured clips.
As far as I know, you must reconnect the files separately. In the reconnect files menu, they should be listed as 'Clip Title' -v and 'Clip Title' -a. Firstly, reconnect the video files, then reselect clips to reconnect audio and make sure the OFFLINE option is selected in the 'Files to Connect' options to display only the audio files for reconnection.

  • Viewing Timecode from Tape, Not Timeline

I am doing some intense edit work which requires Timecode viewing of the footage as well as the running time. How might I view the footage Timecode w/out stopping FCP to check it manually? Must be a way; FCP is now an industry standard. Thanks.

slap the time code reader filter on the footage in the timeline until you lock picture. Be sure to remove it before you do any color correcting etc, as it then becomes impossible to select all remove attributes>filters.

I suppose you mean 10.5.7, rather than 10.7...
    To get to your question.
Strange that it happened, but have a look at Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts > Login items.
I suspect FCP to show there.
Select FCP and press the '-' button. to stop FCP automatically startup at Login....
