Labview 8.5 Linux, I can't use DAQmx Base constants

I'm trying to move an application from Windows to Linux, I'm running RH5 Workstation with LV 8.5 and the newest NI-DAQmx Base installed. I've created tasks using the NI DAQmx Base Task Configuration utility.
However, when I create a Task constant in my block diagram, I cannot select any tasks with it, the arrow down-button is just greyed out. The same goes for the other I/O-constants (Physical Channel constant and Device constant). I've tried typing the task name, but the program just exits with an error.
It seems as though LabView doesn't know where to get information about devices and defined tasks, do I need to do anything to tell LV where to look?
A mysterious thing though, is that I've tried running a sample program, which makes use of one of the predefined tasks and that seemed to work (at least it did not exit with an error). Even more mysterious: When I tried to run the same sample now, it tells me that it can't be opened since I'm running LV 8.2.1, even though I'm running LV 8.5.
Any ideas of what to do? Would it be meaningful to uninstall DAQmx Base and install DAQmx instead (i chose DAQmx Base since the last DAQmx-version was from 2005 or so).
Thank you in advance.

  • Do I need to use DAQmx Base for PDA module or DAQmx will work just fine?

    Hi All,
Does PDA module work only with DAQmx Base or DAQmx as well?

    Hi hellolv,
The PDA module currently only works with DAQmx Base.  If you've never used DAQmx Base before, it is actually very similar to DAQmx, and there are lots of examples out there to get you started.  I recommend searching through our Example Code Library.

  • Stand-Alone application with LabView 7.0 getting error can't find DAQmx clear task.vi

I have attempted to create a stand alone vi with the Build Application or Shared Library(dll) in LabVeiw 7.0
When I put it on another PC to test it I get the error "can't find DAQmx clear task.vi"
the other PC has Labview 7.0 and DAQmx 8.1 also.
I believe my problem is in the source tab where you are supposed to add support and dynamic vi's I have search the forums and Ni's data base and have not found a solution.
    Solved!

    Hi LabTech09,
When you run the executable on the other computer is when you get this error?  Do you have the exact same versions of LabVIEW and DAQmx on both computers?  Does the dialog allow you to navigate to the DAQmx clear task.vi?  If so, you can find these VIs in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.0\vi.lib\DAQmx\configure\task.llb.  Does the executable work on the development machine (the machine it was compiled on)?

I'm trying to set up AI and counter output, and I'm using digital output as trigger for to start AI and counter at the same time. I get error 200452 "Specified property is not supported by the devise..." not consistently, but around 5 runs out of 100. Below the error description, the error box shows "This error code is undefined. No one has provided a description for this code..." If I "Retain Wire Values" in Block Diagram, the error first appears after 'Start Digital Edge' block in top counter output line.

The MAC I have is not Intel base, so I can't upgrade LabView and DAQmxBase to latest version
Note: The file contains just a small portion of the program, but the rest of the program does not have any other DAQmxBase blocks accessing the channels used here in code attached.

    Hi Azotov,
It looks like the DAQmx Base driver readme includes Mac OS X support for LabVIEW 8.5.  Could you specify what hardware you are using?
I found one KnowledgeBase specifying that error code occurs when you try to use certain properties with certain devices.  Of course, this would most likely occur every time you run the task, not 5% of the time.
Since I'm running Windows, it's a little difficult to see if you have DAQmx Base "Reset Device" functionality with that version of the driver.  You might check if you can run that functionality before using your device, though.

    Hello,
Thanks for your reply.I will try to answer your questions.
I have checked the Device Mananger and I have seen that the device is detected by Windows  XP.  For another question the card shows up under both NI-DAQmx Devices and Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) Devices consistently in the Measurement & Automation Explorer.I use a way that I reset the driver for traditional NI-DAQ in MAX,and then i reset the device for NI-DAQmx driver in MAX and again i tried to run the test panel of DAQmx driver but again i saw a wrong signal or noise signal on the test panel i could not see the sinusoidal signal that i connected. i do get the test panels to run with the card using the DAQmx driver,  But could not run the DAQ diagnostic utility. The error was as i specified below.

  • Which Linux distribution can I use on Satellite A30

    Hi,
i would like to run a Linux distribution on my Satellite A30.
Which one would be the best? Any recommendations?
    Thanks!

(K)ubuntu is a very good (free) distribution. Your hardware will be well recognized.
You can try it with the live CD ("desktop" version) and install it if you're satisfied.
Note that a live CD does not provides full power of any distribution : Jayjay knows that too...

  • Installing NI-DAQmx Base using a LabVIEW built installer

I am using a PDA, LabVIEW Mobile Module and the CF-6004 to perform instrument control and data acquistion for a handheld instrument I am developing. Because this instrument is going to be used by another party outside my organization, I am also supplying support software for a companion PC. The support software includes ActiveSync to connect the PC and the PDA, a LabVIEW built application for viewing the data collected by the handheld instrument, a LabVIEW built application for installing/updating the LabVIEW (Mobile Module) built PDA applications and NI-DAQmx Base to install the drivers on the PDA. Ni-DAQmx Base needs to be included because if the PDA battery runs down completely, programs/drivers I installed are lost and the other party needs to have the ability to reinstall the necessary files on the PDA.
The problem is that I cannot find a way to include NI-DAQmx Base in the installer I build to install my LabVIEW built applications onto the PC. It is not listed under the Additional Installers catagory of the installer properties. I cannot run the NI-DAQmx Base Setup.exe with the "Run executable at end of installation" option because I cannot have two LabVIEW installers running simultaneously.
Right now my work around is to use a batch file to install each component sequentially.
Is there anyway to include my my LabVIEW built executables, the Run-Time Engine and NI-DAQmx Base in the same installer package?
    Thanks,
    DAJone

Hello, It is necessary to install Daqmx Base on the machine connected to the PDA and then use the Utility to install it on the PDA. See page 4 of the Mobile Module Manual:

  • LABVIEW PDA/DAQmx Base error

    I'm building a VI for a PDA (pocketPC 2003)
In a Functions Panel, when I'm going in a menu "Measurement I/O" => "DAQmx Base", it misses many icons. I have installed and uninstalled three time DaqmxBase 2.2 with the same result (icon.jpg). I have installed Daqmx Base 3.0 and the problem is always there. Moreover, when I'm going in menu "Select VI" in a Functions Panels, I can open anothers Daqmx Base VI, but there is many errors (error.jpg).

    Hi,
LabVIEW PDA support for DAQ is limited.  The number of DAQ VI's available on LabVIEW PDA is also limited.
I could not clearly view your error list but I did run across a possibly useful Knowledge Base article. I am also including the Known Issues with LabVIEW PDA 8.2.1 . I hope this helps!

  • Can we use LabView controls in VC %3F

    Hi,
I was wondering if Gauge and Tank controls from LabView can be used in VC++? We have labview installed in our lab and we use the graphic controls as major part of our software. We have one software that is written in VC++. Is it possible to export the controls from Labview to VC++? I know MStudio has all those controls for VC++, but our lab is not willing to spend money on MStudio alone. Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Vijay

In a word, no. The controls are drawn by the LabVIEW application itself. They are not standard Windows controls.

  • How do we use if statement in labview?moreover can i use if statement inside for loop?

how do we use if statement in labview?moreover can i use if statement inside for loop?

The if statement in LabVIEW is the Case structure. You can find that on the Structures palette right next to the For Loop. If you're still on the same subject about terminating a for loop early, then what you do is enclose your functions inside the loop with a case statment and make one of the case's empty except for one or more constants that you might have to wire. Hopefully, the attached picture will explain what I mean. Also, as I mentioned in one of your other posts, I think this technique is not as good as using a while loop. The array in the attached example is the same size no matter what and you may have to handle stripping extra or invalid elements.

Use a virtual machine like Fusion, Parallels, or VirtualBox to install Linux. You can not use Bootcamp.

  • How can I use LabVIEW 6 on a SCXI-FRQ8 module?

Hi, here is a description of our problem. We hope that you will be able to help us.
We bought from NI, a few years ago, some SCXI-FRQ8 modules. (Those modules were made by a company called Developpement Ingenierie in France) The problem is, we can not update to the version 6 of labview since we do not have the drivers to install Labview 6. The drivers we have are for Labview 5.x and 4.x.
Furthermore, we can not update those drivers by ourselves, since we do not have acces to the diagram of these VI drivers. We tried to contact that company, but no one answers. So maybe the company does not even exists anymore.
We would like to be able to install Labview 6 on these modules and if we can
make it work, we will probably buy some new SCXI-FRQ8 modules(if we can still buy them).
    Thank you

The driver for the SCXI-FRQ8 provided by DI originally did not include the block diagrams. So if you try to use them in a newer version of LabVIEW, you will receive error messages because LabVIEW needs the source code to recompile the code into the newer LabVIEW format.
National Instruments can provide you with the code you need to use this module with LabVIEW 6. Request this code at http://www.ni.com/ask.

  • New to LABVIEW. How can I use one analog channel to trigger acquisiton of a signal on another analog channel?

I am new to using Labview and have been tasked to write data acqusition program for my company. We are attempting to log 6 machines, each with their own asynchronous trigger (I can't use one trigger for all 6 machines). I have the idea to use (for example) ai0 for the measurement and ai1 for the trigger (for one machine), yet I see nothing in the documentation on how this is done. I have tried playing around with the DAQ express VI (I am using Labview7) but still don't see a way to have the setup I am looking for. I'm sure this is a relatively easy question, but I'm unsure where to go to look for an answer. Any helpful pointers or guidance in the right direction
    would be very helpful!

If what you want to do is start the acquisition of channel 0 when channel 1 reaches the trigger condition and not start channel 2 until channel 3 reaches it's trigger condition, then no, you cna't do that unless you have multiple daq devices. What can be easily done is continuously acquire all channels and monitor your trigger channels. When the trigger condition is met, then perform the analysis/logging. On the Analyze>Waveform Monitoring palette is the Basic Level Trigger Detection function. Use one for each trigger channel and have it return either the index or relative time of the trigger occurance. This value can then be used to idex that portion of the measurement channel that you're interested in.
