LabVIEW: Null window error in an application?
Hi there,
I just built an application from a vi and I am encountering an error:
LabVIEW: Null window.
The top-level VI "name1.vi"
was stopped at unknown on the block diagram of "name2.vi".
The application runs smoothly until the user selects some hotkeys to open a simple subvi briefly during execution in order to check on a file path. This hot key combination works perfectly when the normal vi is running and the subvi displays the information and then closes and the vi execution continues. Why would it not work when it has been built as an application??

Hi,
I have a fairly large program that was written in Labview 6.0. Recently we upgraded to Labview 9.0 and this program was exported to an executable with the new version.
When running the executable I sometimes get the following error as seemingly random places. I have not been able to make it crash when not using the executable. Labview: Null Window. The top-level VI ".vi" stopped at unknown on the block diagram of ".vi"
I apologise for having to blank out the vi names but i cannot give vi names, say what the software is used for or give over code. I can say that it uses NI USB 6212 IO cards, interfaces with Rhode and Swartz instruments and uses alot of file IO.
I was hoping that someone could give me a hint on how to debug such an error. I have noticed that When this error occurs, the memory use almost doubles.

Go to Solution.I think you open the front panel of a VI that has it's front panel removed during the build. Try to adjust the built settings of that specific VI to include the front panel.

hey guys,i tried to install the latest version of itunes but when i try to open it,it just comes up windows error 2 apple application support was not found,can anyone help me out and tell me what i need to do pls ?
If you run into the "another installation" message even after the reboot of the PC (which is an excellent idea by HTP ProXy), reregistering your Windows Installer Service is worth a try.
First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".
At the command prompt:
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Restart the PC and try another reinstalll. -
What is a null window error message in a programatically opened VI ?
I wrote a simple VI that calls a subvi and has it opened.
If I call it from the development environment - no problems; however, when, I compile the calling vi AND execute it, I get a message that there is a null window and the subvi has stopped.

popup_problem.llb 19 KBI think what is happening is that because you set the windows appearance properties in the main VI and not in the subVI itself, the app builder used the default setting for the subVI and removed it's front panel. You can change this in the application builder by going to the VI Settings tab, slect the subVI, and click the Edit Build Settings button. Change the Remove Panel to No and all should be okay. You can also change the subVI's properties itself (VI Properties>Window Appearance>Customize) and not have to change anything in the app builder.

this application has failed to start because d3d8thk.dll could not be found. I looked that file up and it seems its part of directx. i installed directx again but that still did not help.

That one is a DirectX 8 module and might not be included in the most recent DirectX 9 redistributable available from Microsoft. If it's been installed as part of a partial DirectX 8 install (as part of a game for example), that can cause the issue. Can you track down a full DirectX 8 redistributable? If so, if you install that, does that clear up the iTunes error? -
Why do I get a windows error every time I stop or close an executable?
Whenever I run an executable in any windows computer it runs fine but as soon as I stop or shut down the executable, I get and a windows error. The program that I have reads from compact Fieldpoints and processes those data. Once you close or stop the program, that is when I get the error. No other error is generated from LabVIEW, only windows error. I have been seeing this error since I upgraded to LabVIEW 2010. I never had this error before when I was using LabvIEW 7.1 or 9. I do not see the error when I am using the VI itself before the build, only when it becomes an executable is when it generates the error in windows.
If anybody knows anything about this pls. respond to this post. I have read somebody elses problem with the executable crashing but no one has posted a viable solution. It does not affect the functionality of the executable at all. It is just annoying that we keep getting the error/crash whenever we have to exit the program and new users keep asking about it.

Perhaps there is a driver or LabVIEW compatibility issue here. What version of the cFP drivers do you currenty have installed? The most recent release of the cFP driver is 6.0.8 and can be downloaded at ni.com/updates. I would also install LabVIEW 2010 SP1. From your post, it appears you only have LV 2010 installed. The LV update may also assist in resolving the issue you are having with the executables. LV 2010 SP1 can be downloaded at ni.com/src if you have a purchased copy and not a trial version. Otherwise you can locate the trial at ni.com/labview. Hope this helps.

We have OIM 9.1.0.2 configured in our environment. I am seeing a lot of GOT A NULL CONNECTION errors in the application logs. But when we contact the DBAs, they are not seeing any errors on the database side. I am seeing only from the application side. We are running on OAS 10.1.3.1

Data AccessException:Search for file: data-sources.xml file in your app server directories and modify it. Go to data sources section and do the modification. A sample datasource may look like:

after writing an html report on a floppy disk and removing it, labview shows an error message window: disk not present.
My pc is based on asus motherboard. Labview 7 and Windows 2000 sp4 installed.
The error message continue also if i stop the application that generated report on a: .
I've got this problem only on a pc: on other machines i don't have this problem (Labview only continues to access floppy but it doesn't show any window).
Find below an example: first press the button to create a report on a: then remove the floppy, after 30-35 sec i've got the error message

I tried your vi: I don't get any error message after removing the disk but LV7 keeps on accessing the drive at regular intervals even if you stop the vi and close it!!! This is not supposed to happen.
The only way to stop it is exit LV7.
If you don't use the file dialog and you wire a full path, you don't get any problem.
I also created a very simple vi that conditionally writes a text file on a: and I got the same behaviour.
This problem occurs only with LV7, I tried the same examples in LV6.1 and everything was fine.

Error code 28 LabVIEW Null menu
The error cluster of my VI indicate that the error 28 : LabVIEW Null
menu occur in it, but when I open the block diagram of this VI to
see which subVI cause the error, the error doesn't reappears anymore
and everything is OK.
Afterward, if I close my erroneous VI and run it again. The error
Reappears. I try a MASS COMPILE but I still have the same problem. So I
have 2 questions.
1) What can cause the apparition of the error when I run my application normally and not when I open the VI block diagram.
2) What can cause the Error: 28 : LabVIEW Null menu.

I am trying to install itunes (64 bit) after downloading Windows 8.1 on my HP Laptop. I keep getting an error message Windows Error 2--"Apple App;ication Support is required to run itunes helper" Does anyone have any simple suggestions for a user with limited knowledge of Computers?
With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR suitable for your PC (there's a 32-bit Windows version and a 64-bit Windows version):
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, see if iTunes will launch without the error now.
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.) -
I recently tried to update iTunes to 11.1, and am now getting an error message "This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes several times with no success. I am running Windows XP Svc Pack 3. Help please.
Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Unable to load ITUNES onto PC HP, windows 7 Home Version. Error message reads "Application Application Support not found". "Uninstall and reload". I have done that 4 times on Explorer and Firefox without success. Help??
I had gotten a similar problem, except with "provider services", i believe, but i solved it by copying sqlite3.dll from E:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support to E:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support. doing that solved my first problem, but now i have been getting the error described in this topic (unable to load dataclass info... etc.). i tried reinstalling itunes (i already had 9.1.1, and thats what i reinstalled) by using the method described on apples site (using the "remove programs" tool in the control panel) and then downloading and installing itunes. when i opened it again, i still got the same error, and just now i got an error saying "the instruction at "0x00aadb6b" referenced memory at "0x00000008". the memory could not be read" it gave me the option to cancel and debug, or to press ok and terminate the program. I tried pressing cancel, and the popup went away but nothing else happened. a minute later the popup was back, so i pressed ok and itunes quit. Upon opening Itunes again, i got the very same error. sorry for the long post, but its really been bugging me. thanks for any help you might give, and if you need anymore info, feel free to contact me.

Windows 7 users in my domain are unable to configure or change backup settings. Users are able to open Control Panel > Backup and Restore, but when they click
Change settings, they receive the error: Windows Backup - The backup application coud not start due to an internal error: You must be logged on as an administrator to perform this task. (0x8100000010).
The same error is received when executing sdclt.exe /configure at the command prompt, regardless of whether the command prompt is launched using "run as administrator".
I've done significant testing, and have been able to determine that the local administrator account is able to configure backups before the computer is joined to the domain. Once the computer is joined to the domain, the local administrator account
and domain users who are in the local administrators group are no longer able to configure backup and restore. Domain administrators are able to configure backups.
This is a new issue, which began occuring sometime in the last 2 months. 3 months ago, users were able to configure backups without issue, and those computers with backups configured are still able to run their backups and do restores; however the
settings can no longer be changed.
Clearly something in the domain is doing this, but Group Policy has not been altered, and I can find no setting that would be doing this in any case. Any help is appreciated.Hi,
So you mean you have tried different accounts in the local Administrator group and all of them failed?
If so, please check what group the local Administrator group belongs to? Does it belong to a group with limited privileges, such as the Guests group?

Ok so I went to update my itunes 9 to itunes 10.5 and now I get and error message "Apple application support was not found" error 2 (windows error 2) when ever I try to run itunes and iv been trying to fix this for like a month and let me tell you iTunes for windows is **** and I really want Icloud for my iphone 4 and yes iv tried uninstalling everything by apple in the correct order and reinstalling them after restart atleast honestly 20 - 30 times but nothing worked so if anyone can please help me I have windows 7 and a hp intel pentium computer
Install 7-Zip (free), or a free trial of WinRAR, and use one of them to extract the contents of the iTunesSetup.exe or iTunesSetup64.exe installer file, then try installing AppleApplicationSupport.msi as a standalone component. Even if it won't install you may get a more useful error message as to why not.
