Laptops and PS and AI CS 3
WIll these two softwares work well on an IBM OR Mac laptop, notebook (I don't know the difference) or must I have a MAC?
If I DO get a laptop, what should I look for in equipment? Thanks so much for the info..............mm
I'm at CS2, but I have no trouble running either Illustrator or Photoshop on my Lenovo X61 (running Win XP Pro). I don't do any "serious" work on my notebook PC, but that has more to do with my preferences and work habits than any inherent limitation of the hardware (well... except for the monitor, perhaps).
If a notebook were my only PC (whether I were running Mac OS or Windows), I would, at a minimum, invest in a good external monitor that can be properly calibrated. That way, I'll have a way to check color accuracy.
As to what to look for in a laptop/notebook PC, much depends on your requirements. Is portability important? If so, you'll put size and weight high on your list of criteria. Is screen real estate important? If so, you'll be looking at larger widescreen models. Will you be subjecting it to heavy-duty use and possible abuse? If so, you'll seek a product of rugged design and build. Is this to be a desktop replacement? If so, you'll consider various performance factors very carefully.
I would caution that, although there are some relatively inexpensive options out there these days, you get what you pay for. When something breaks, you don't replace components (like a keyboard or mouse) as with desktop PCs; you send the entire thing out for repair.
And, along those lines, I recommend you work out a rigorous backup strategy early in your ownership... of
i any
PC, but
i especially
a laptop/notebook PC. I know people who have sent their broken laptops back to the manufacturers and received replacement units (under warranty) with "clean" hard drives. Bye bye, data. (Not the manufacturers' problem.)
Oh... and what Bob said.

The hard disc of my laptop has crashed and i lost all the data. Now I want to take back up of my I phone and transfer contacts , messages and music etc back into my laptop , how can I do that. Also let me know how I can transfer the contacts into Windows contacts from I phone. Pl help
Your content will only be where you put it. It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone: File>Device>Transfer purchases.
You can import your pics taken with the iphone as you would with any digital camera.
You can e-mail the other pics to yourself, they will never be of the original quality.
You can out a unique contact and calendar entry on the computer. You should get the option to merge the data when you sync. -

My laptop recently crashed and is unsalvageable with my itunes library on it. My ipod still has all of my music still on it.
Is there a way that I can put the songs on my ipod onto itunes on my new computer without loosing them or having to buy them all over again?Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

I have an ancient laptop (from 2005) that has my entire music library. This laptop barely works and some keys don't type anymore. How can I get all this music transferred to another computer, or available to me on the cloud?
No... do not move programs.
About the iTunes library files
Your iTunes library files track the media you add to iTunes, how you've organized it, and other information such as playlists. By default, these two files are in your iTunes folder:
Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music/iTunes/
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
Windows Vista: C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\
Windows 7: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\
Windows 8: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\ -

Okay, that's your choice.

Is the media already on the iPad? If not, iTunes purchases can be redownloaded if they are still available in iTunes. Non-iTunes purchases would need to be synced from iTunes on a computer. -

my LAPTOP is broken and I need to SINCRO my iPhone to a new PC. ANY HELP?
The right way is to restore the backup that you should have kept of your broken laptop before it was broken to your new PC.
As a much more complex and expensive alternative, see: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive -
can I share my itunes library between my laptop at home and my computer at work using homeshare?

I got a new laptop (Macbook Pro) and my IPhone is synced with my previous laptop (which I no longer have). I've recorded dozens of very long (un-emailable) Voice Memos over the last few weeks and need to get them from my IPhone onto my new laptop.
How do I do this?
(when I click on the Sync option I get the warning: "Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing songs and playlists on the iPhone will be replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library." I fear that if I click this I will lose all of my important Voice Memos as well)Just to add to what ChrisJ4203 said. You can sync them to your new computer using iTunes by selecting to Include Voice Memos on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing. However, you still need to re-establish syncing with the new computer without iTunes erasing all the iTunes media from your phone (as the warning mentioned).
If you copy your entire iTunes folder (not just your music) from your old computer to your new one, along with other non-iTunes media you may be syncing with iTunes (such as contacts, calendars and any photos synced to your phone from your old computer) by using migration assistant of following one of these methods: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527, then when you sync again with your new computer it will recognize your phone and sync as it did before. You will still have to authorize the new computer for any Apple IDs used to purchase from the iTunes and App stores (in iTunes>Store>Authorize this computer).
After that you can sync your voice memos to your computer as mentioned earlier.
If you want to archive your voice memos before you do anything with iTunes, you can use a 3rd party program such as PhoneView or Touch Copy. -
Do u have to have a computer/pc to use home sharing? I have apple tv not sure if it's 2nd or 3rd generation or even if it's first generation. My laptop is broken and in the shop, can I run my apple tv off my iPad?
If you have home sharing turned on in the settings of your apple tv and your iPad you can AirPlay from your iPad to the apple tv. When you play a video there is a tv icon on the right side of the play/pause/fwd/rwd icons. Click that and choose your apple tv. Your apple tv and iPad must be on the same network.

Question: Is there a way to consolidate Apple IDs and passwords on my desktop, laptop, ipod, ipad and iphone? I waste too much time trying to remember something different for each device or operation.
This knowledge base article is the AppleID Faq...I recently changed my AppleID password, not the ID iteself, and the passward was synced across all devices.
You cannot consolidate AppleIDs so you have to just establish one that will be used for all activities. And keep in mind, app purchases are tied to the AppleID used for the purchase so updates have to be made using that ID. -
I had Premier pro given me by the college I attend and do no use wi fi and do not use cloud. My laptop completely died and will be sent back to Apple for exchange. How can I reinstall Premier Pro on a new Apple computer since the old one is completly dead and could not be unregistered?
Hi,
You have not specified which version of Premiere Pro was given to you. If you don't have the disc (which i suppose you don't have) you will have to download it online.
As far as your registration is concerned, for Premiere Pro CS6 or earlier you will have to reach Adobe chat support for further help: http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html
For Premiere Pro CC and later, you will not have much problems reactivating it.
Thanks,

Two mac laptops, one iPhone and an iPod touch. Sync apps?
Hi there, between my wife and I, we have two Mac laptops, one iPhone and an iPod touch. The iPod touch is new- is it possible to get the apps that have already been purchased for the iPhone, onto the iTouch?
schmjorgen wrote:
but can i then only ever use both the iphone and itouch with that particular mac?
you can use home sharing to transfer media files (incl. apps) between the two Macs. if you and your wife use separate Apple ID's to purchase content, authorize the wife's machine for yours and yours for hers.
is there a way to make both portable devices work with both macs?
by design, iOS devices sync with only one library at a time.
i am hoping the "home sharing" feature will be the answer but so far i have not been able to make it work.

Can I use two Time Capsules? one as an extension of my laptop (for music and video storage) and the other one to back up everything from the laptop and Time Capsule (for music and videos)
Not via Time Machine. It cannot back up from a network location.
The 3rd-party apps CarbonCopyCloner and ChronoSync may be workable alternatives.
EDIT: And, if you're going to do that, you could back up from the Time Capsule to a USB drive connected to the TC's USB port. Second TC not required.
