Launching programs with terminal
hi, how do i launch programs via terminal? I type exec, press space, then drag a program to the terminal screen (to display it's location) , and then press return. It just tells me "permission denied" It does it on both my compters with with os X.

In Terminal use the command, then space, application.

Im using 10.6.4 on a Macbook Pro and on the 1 screen im using 3 different programs at once (2 music programs and Parallels / Windows Program)
Is there a quick way to flip between the 3 very quickly as I like to view all 3 very quickly and chop and change between them on the Macbook Pro screen
I use Apple + Tab but this gets tedious trying to flip around between them going left and right
Does 10.6.4 allow you to user define keys to certain programs so you can launch and they become active?
ie: F1 - launch program 1, F2 - Launch Program 2 etc
So 1 button push makes a certain program active?
I was used to Windows, whereby everything stayed in a dock at the bottom and you could just launch any program at any time
I love Mac OS X but the only way I can find is either the Apple+Tab which gets tedious, or a Hot corner which i have set up and "spreads out" the programs : then again with hot corners your still having to chase around all your open windows!
Is there a quick easy solution for having up to 3 programs at once and instant access that I don't know about? With audio editing, i chop and change edits to see how they fit between programs so this would be invaluable
I'm pretty sure OSX would have something under the bonnet to do this?

Um, so far as I'm aware this is the same behaviour in OS X. Launched programs that are not added to the Dock are appended to the right of the Dock, but applications in the dock do not move randomly - unless you count the fact that the Dock expands to include newly-added or -launched applications. To achieve what I think you're referring to, simply add the applications you use frequently to the Dock permanently, and use the same behaviour you were accustomed to in Windows to switch applications.
However, if you want to create a simple keystroke to switch to another application (whether open already or not), then try creating a new Automator Service to activate a given application, and assigning a keystroke to it. I've never actually created a working Automator action before, but I believe the following should work:
1) Launch Automator
2) Select "Library" in the left-hand column, and type "Applescript" in the search box.
3) There will be only one result, "Run Applescript." Drag this into the right-hand column.
4) Copy and paste the following script to replace the words "(* Your script goes here *)":
tell application "Amadeus Pro"
activate # switch to your application, launch if necessary
end tell
5) Replace "Amadeus Pro" with the name of the application you want to switch to. KEEP the inverted commas.
6) Make sure the drop-down menu in the top-right is set to "any application."
7) Choose "Save" from the File menu, and assign an appropriate name; this is how your Service will appear in the Services menu. You can now close Automator.
8) Finally, assign a shortcut in System Preferences » Keyboard » Keyboard Shortcuts » Services.
Give that a shot and see whether you're happy with it. Rinse and repeat with the names of the other applications if satisfied

Compile and run a program with Terminal
Hello, I used TextWrangler to create a .c file on my desktop. I want to compile and run the program using Terminal. However, I am new to programming and I am not sure how to achieve this. I have Xcode with Command Line Tools downloaded. I have the file "6_19.c" on my desktop currently. Any help would be appreciated.
Your Desktop probably isn't in your execution path, so you might want to start by moving "6_19.c" from your Desktop to your Home folder. After that, in Terminal, just do
gcc -o 6_19 6_19.c
The general format is
gcc -o <name you want the compiled program to have> <name of the source>.c
Do not put any .extension on the end of the name you want the compiled program to have. Also note that after "gcc" there's a space, then a dash and the next character is a lower case letter 'o', not a numerical zero. There's a space between the name of the compiled program and the name of the source.
To run the program, at your terminal prompt type
./6_19
The general format is dot forward slash <name of the compiled program>
There's no spaces at all.

Hi,
I've installed Oracle EDQ on an AWS Windows 2008 instance. I installed "EDQ 12.1.3 Quick-Start". The installation went through without a hitch. The Oracle EDQ Application Server, Oracle EDQ Config Store and Oracle EDQ Results Store services are running. However when I run dnConfig to change the 32 bit JVM to the 64 bit version, I get the above error.
Can anyone help resolve this issue?

A word of warning. You shouldn't be trying to change the bitness whilst the services are running. This will cause you a whole world of problems.

Flexfield View Generator Program Was Terminated With Signal 11

After compiling any flexfield, the Flexfield View Generator concurrent program is getting initiated which is completing with error status with the following log message:

MiFis have a default power setting on them that turns off the device after XX minutes of no use (As determined by the MiFi). You can find and modify this setting in the MiFi Admin webpage. It should be under the advanced area and can be configured to leave the MiFi on all the time.
That being said, no MiFi model will behave very well as an always on home internet replacement device. Dedicated home cable routers and modems will always perform better, they are designed for that scenario. By comparison MiFis are designed to be light weight travel devices, they simply do not have the hardware necessary to be left online all day long with acceptable results. MiFis are more appropriate as a backup, mobile or temporary internet solution.
If you are looking for a home internet always on internet connection device you would be safer going with stronger hardware like a USB Modem+CradlePoint router, the VZW 4G LTE router or VZW HomeFusion. Any of those devices are going to provide you with a better experience for your home than the MiFis without additional equiptment like boosters and antennas. Some CradlePoint routers can be expensive but perform very well, the 4G LTE router has mixed review and the nice thing about HomeFusion is the special data plan and high powered equiptment. -

He started with terminal And used a text editor to compil the c program on his mac.. So please tell me how to do the same and is there any pre stalled text editor on mac if yes then where and if no then which text editor to install and how to install gcc...please help me out thanks in advance !!!

Why? If you are developing and writing code on a Mac why would you not use the tools Apple has given you? And Xcode, once you get use to it, is a very nice development environment that will make you life a whole lot easier.
If you insist on using an editor and the terminal I would recommend Emacs but it has a long learning curve so something like TextWrangler will work too.
As for the compiler if you have Xcode installed install the command line tools and you will be able to compile from the terminal.

Keep getting error message when trying out a small java program in terminal
I've been trying out running java programs in mac os x terminal. I have eclipse as well, but it's too much for me right now. I copied some programs out of the dummies book I have, just to get a feel for things -- so, I went to the desktop where the program was, and compiled it (I saved it with a .java extension). "javac javaprogram.java" to compile, which it did fine, and then 'java javaprogram' to execute it. It's just a simple line that says 'you'll love java!'. Anyway, it wouldn't execute it.

Now, I noticed that the first part of the error is "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javaprogram". Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, and is there any book or site I can go to which will instruct me on running programs in terminal?For starters, rename javaprogram.java to Displayer.java and dojavac Displayer.java

In Java, files containing a Java class named "ClassName" should/have to be named "ClassName.java". -
# Question
When the program gets terminated unexpectedly (power failure, UPS fails), when I reopen it, it usually does NOT return the previous pages, as I have checked in the 'options' box, but goes to some random collection of pages often from months ago. Very frustrating - can anything be done to COMMAND it to save current pages and re-open there? (As I said, I have this box checked in the options, but it does not work ..Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
Could be many things, we should start with this...

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

4. Select your Mac OS X volume.

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Do they launch OK while in Safe Mode? -
Opening program through terminal on install disc
okay, so here is my situation: I am booting from the OS X install disc (can't get onto my internal HDD), and then going to Disk Utility (I have external HDD attached), mounting a disk image on the external HDD (the application is also directly on the /Volumes/External HD), and trying to run this program from Terminal on the install disc by changing to the directory, and then doing "open programname", only to find that "open" isn't a command that exists. However, I am pretty sure that is the command. Anyone know how to do this? (the program is a .app btw).
I've used the open command in Terminal to launch a program which will open the particular file, you add the application option to the open command:
Tigin:~ francine$ open -a TextWrangler /Users/francine/Desktop/mwindex.html
You can also open a program in Terminal with the complete path to the program's executable, ie:
Tigin:~ francine$ /Volumes/Not200/Applications/Utilities/BatChmod.app/Contents/MacOS/BatChmod
It will only run as long as the Terminal window is open.

This is some information about this.
To fill the input fields of a called transaction with data from the calling program, you can use the SPA/GPA technique. SPA/GPA parameters are values that the system stores in the global, user-specific SAP memory. SAP memory allows you to pass values between programs. A user can access the values stored in the SAP memory during one terminal session for all parallel sessions. Each SPA/GPA parameter is identified by a 20-character code. You can maintain them in the Repository Browser in the ABAP Workbench. The values in SPA/GPA parameters are user-specific.
ABAP programs can access the parameters using the SET PARAMETER and GET PARAMETERstatements.
To fill one, use:
SET PARAMETER ID pid FIELD f.
This statement saves the contents of field f under the ID pid in the SAP memory. The ID pid can be up to 20 characters long. If there was already a value stored under pid, this statement overwrites it. If you double-click pid in the ABAP Editor, parameters that do not exist can be created as a Repository object.
To read an SPA/GPA parameter, use:
GET PARAMETER ID pid FIELD f.
This statement places the value stored under the pid ID into the variable f. If the system does not find any value for pid in the SAP memory, sy-subrc is set to 4. Otherwise, it sets the value to 0.

Launching programs from python and ncurses
I've made a little menu launcher with python and ncurses. It works most of the time, but occationally it does nothing when I select a program to launch.
This is how it works:
1. A keyboard shortcut launches an xterm window that runs the program.
2. I select some program, which is launched via this command:
os.system("nohup " + "program_name" + "> /dev/null &")
3. ncurses cleans up and python calls "sys.exit()"
The whole idea with nohup is that the xterm window will close after I select an application, but the application will still start normally (this was a bit of a problem). This works most of the time, but sometimes nothing happens (it never works the first time I try launching a program after starting the computer, the other times are more random).
So, has anyone got an idea of what's going on or a better solution than the nohup hack?
The whole code for the menu launcher is below. It's quite hackish, but then again it was just meant for me. The file's called "curmenu.py", and I launch it with an xbindkeys shortcut that runs "xterm -e curmenu.py".

Note that the dev machine is x64 Win7.
I have not tried deploying this to staging since the issue started as I'm a bit nervous of touching the staging/live environment until this is solved.
Removing the PlatformTarget element from the project file has no effect
Removing the msshrtmi.dll file from the bin directory of the website project ends up with

I have used Git to revert to the last working build to no effect (But I don't have the obj/bin folders in GIT), but it has atleast reset the project files etc.
If I return msshrtmi.dll to the bin folder and switch the model and website projects to x64 there is no change
If I switch both to x86 then I get an error Could not load file or assembly 'BekoModel2011' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
which is the model project - presumably because to run on my x64 machine I need the 64bit version?
I really need to be able to debug and then publish some changes ASAP.

Is it true that you're using IIS to host the application? Could you check whether the process is x64 or x86 one via task manager or config in IIS manager?

When I uncomment the try/catch lines (lines 1 to 7) , java compiler generate an error... near getClass().getClassLoader().loadClass("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver");
With "Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver");" no problem.
Running MacOS X 10.3.9, Apache/1.3.33 (Darwin) PHP/4.4.1 mod_ssl/2.8.24 OpenSSL/0.9.7i and JVM 1.4.2_09

can you post the stack trace?
im not sure what is causing the error because of less info,
but have you tried to copy the driver of mysql to tomcat lib folder?
