Laying text fields on top of a graphic

I thought the reason to use Fireworks was it's enhanced image
compatibility with Dreamweaver.
Is there a trick to laying a form object like a text field on
top of a Fireworks image that was imported into dreamweaver as
HTML?

And either approach is troublesome, which is why you don't
often see it done
by experienced developers.
Change the text size in the browser, and both methods can
break your careful
alignment.

Text Field on top of a Button

I'm using buttons to display an image dependent on a dropdown and need to include a text form on top of the images. When I put another drop down on top of the button it is still accessable but when I put a text field on top of the button the text field disapears and can't be selected to put type in. Is there a way to move it on top of the button?

TSN has a point, but since forms were introduced the tab order is also the z-order of fields. But if they are not read-only, they can recieve the focus, and a field that has the focus will appear to be on top. So if you set the button to read-only and set the tab order so the button is before the text field, it should work OK.
Another option is to take advantage of the button label, which can have a number of placements. When the button is clicked it could prompt the user (e.g., app.response) to enter some text and then update the button label. Help With TLF Text Fields and UI Scrollbar

I've been trying to get one scrollbar to work with three TLF text fields. They are alligned from top to bottom like a column. It would seem better to just make one text field but because there are graphic symbols in the way that block the text, I made the middle text field smaller then the top, and the bottom smaller then the middle.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the text from the bottom text field to scroll to the top while the text fills the empty space of each text field properly. Is there anyway to make the UI scrollbar work like this? I cant find any info.

There is no way to do this directly from the authoring environment. You can change the code to another solid color using code.
But you don't sound like you are a coder.
So the best solution for you would be to turn off the back ground and just draw some artwork behind the textfields. Perhaps put it on a different layer so that it is easier to manage.

Is there a way to link text fields in an interactive form in ID CS6?

I'm recreating a form where they had several text fields on top of each other. If the form were not interactive, that would be so the user could use it to fill out longer, more detailed responses to the questions.
But since it's supposed to be interactive, I question the need for this, unless I could link them somehow, so that a user's long answer would flow from one field to the next as needed.
Is there a way to do that? Or would it work better to combine the 3 text fields into one big text field?
If the latter, is there a way to change a text field back into a text or picture box? I can't seem to find that option.

You cannot link PDF fields to each other.
Make a text field Multiline and Scrollable to allow for extra input (in Acrobat, but not in InDesign, you can also set a limit on the number of characters).
As I said elsewhere, choose Object > Interactive > Convert to Object to change a field to a regular object.

Making a form, why does the text type over top of itself in the form field?

Hi, I am making a certificate form for a client to fill out and print when needed. I designed everything in InDesign, exported to pdf, and made a form field for Old English MT for the name and date. When I close the form editing window and type a name in the allocated spot, the letters type on top of each other, not left to right like normal. I am working on a mac, client is on a pc.

Yes its possible it happens when there is a Duplicate Field on top of itself. I helped someone last year that had several fields that were duplicated.
Open Acrobat.
Go to tools menu
Choose Forms.
Click on Edit.
Click the field(s) that appear to have duplicated text.
If your keyboard has arrow keys click on the field then use arrow key to move to left, right, up, or down. If field shows underneath is not moved, delete the field selected.
Repeat as needed.

How can I put text on top of a graphic in Framemaker 11?

I am using Framemaker 11. When I import an image from Photoshop (EPS file) and put a text box on top, I can't get the text to be on top of the graphic without jumping to the next page. Is there a setting that I'm missing in Framemaker? The image is just borders, like a frame, and I'm trying to put the text inside the blank space.

I suggest you use the text frame tool (to the left of Arnis' supplied screenshot) and set the background of the text frame (the diagonal b/w lines below the text frame tool) to None.
When all else fails, add the text to the graphic, save as PDF or other appropriate format, and place as needed.

Bug? Text field & Button are still visible when solid-filled rectangle is placed on top of them

Adobe Live Cycle 7.1
It cannot work when i tried to make the text field and button invisible without JavaScript:
1. Create a text field with any default value and button.
2. Create a filled color rectangle.
3. Set the rectangle on top of all objects (right click it and select "bring to front")
4. View in Pdf.
5. Result:
Text field's caption and border are invisible (covered by rectangle) ,but the text field's raw value and the button are visible.
Is this a bug?

It's difficult to tell. I can see what you're trying to accomplish but it's possible that Acrobat is giving priority to fillable fields over static objects (such as the rectangle) regardless of z-order (i.e. "bring to front", "send to back"...).
You can make objects invisible without having to write any script by selecting the objects which should be invisible and setting the Presence property, on the Object palette's Field tab, to
Invisible or
Hidden - Exclude from Layout. The former means the objects won't be visible but they will still be a factor in the way in which objects are placed on the form while the latter means they're totally hidden from the form.

Text field top padding

Hello,
I got a problem customizing the text fields in the form I created. There seems to be a top padding which I cannot remove, forcing to give them much more height than it seems to be neccessary to display the text in them. Because this is stealing a lot of space I want to reduce that padding, but I cannot figure out how. Here is a screen shot of one of them. You can see there is a lot of space on top of the submitted text:
If I reduce the height of the field the text will get cropped at the bottom. There is enough space at the top, so I should fit:
Reducing the size of the text is making it very hard to read I think:
Setting the text size to auto is resulting in cropped text also.
It would be nice if you could help me out here.

I am having the same problem with excessive padding at the top of my form fields. It's not quite as drastic as Pratzelwurm's, but there is obvious padding. It looks like it's about 3pts on a 9pt Arial font for single line, and 6pts for multi-line. While I did generate the pdf with a 3rd party program (scribus), I created another textfield in Acrobat 11 next to the one in question, and the vertical padding was the same—the only difference was that Acrobat had added horizontal padding as well.
As you see in the screenshot, for single-line fields it's just ugly, which, though I'd rather not, I can work around, but for multi-line fields, it's a serious issue. I've spent about 6 or seven hours now scouring the internet, and I have yet to come across any solutions for this problem. Please let me know if anyone has figured out any solutions in the few years since this last post (aside from the obvious "change your form layout" or "don't use multi-line fields" and such). Thank you!

Expanding text fields not co-operating

I created a new form that spans over 2 pages and saved it as a dynamic PDF. I'm trying to allow for the text fields to expand as the user types beyond the intial size of the field. The field is set to "Expand to Fit". I have several sections of the form all separated by text headings. I have tried to wrap each section in a subform (set to "Flowed"), then wrap all the subforms to a larger subform (set to "Flowed").
The problems that I'm encountering is each section that is wrapped in a subform looses the placement and whitespace between fields of all the fields and brings them in tight to each other. Then when i wrap all the subforms into one larger subform (set to "flowed"), my text headings and other text get rearranged and I can't change the order of reposition them with the white space.
Below is a picture of my form in the nice tidy format that I'd like to keep. Then a picture of how it looks with each section in a subform and all of those subforms in a larger subform.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
Moving to Flowed layouts can be a pain. When you change to Flowed type, all of the objects are positioned from top left, based on the order in the hierarchy.
You will need to adjust the objects margins in order to space them out.
First I would adjust the content area on the Master Page, so that you have your margins in the right distance from the left (and top, bottom and right).

Another thing, when working with textfields (and other objects) you can set the caption to appear above the value area (go to the Layout palette). This means that you will only be dealing with one object instead of two (currently you have a text object and a textfield).
If things are still out of order, then drag them into the correct order in the hierarchy and they will be in the right order on the page.

My MacBook Pro freezes whenever I try to type in a text field

In the past couple of days, out of the blue, My MacBook Pro (early 2011, Logic Board replaced twice by now due to video card issues) freezes whenever I try to type something in any text field of the system or or other apps.
Specifically, whenever I try to search for an item in spotlight, or search for a "help" item under each application's help menu, even when I try to type in the adress bar of (any) of my browser(s). The crash causes all running apps to freeze for a few seconds and makes things work drammatically slower.
I'm on 8GB RAM so I think this is ridiculous and I cannot think of any third party app causing the issue, since I have not installed anything in the past few days. I Also resolved and deleted any fonts that seemed redundant and/or probematic (I do have a lot of fonts installed as I am a graphic designer, but again, no new fonts were added any time recently).
Any help would be appreciated!

How to compare text field length with the length of input characers

I hae a problem with the length of text field
I want to fix the length of TextField by taking the length of attribute to, whihc i have to use in text field
Like i have set the max length of Attribut to 10 and set the length of textfield also 10.
But the problem is that if i enter 10 'i' it dosn't fill even half the space in TextField
And opposit if i enter 10 'W'
I wonder if there is a solution for this problem

Adding user-defined number of text fields.

Okay I am having problems, obviously. I am developing a program where the user will enter X and Y values and the program will calculate the relational data. However, I can't even get a start.
First of all, the user defines the number of pairs of points they want to define. For example, they have 20 points, each with its own X and Y, so they click on 20 and then okay in the first window.
The next window will then take their answer and display X and Y text fields for as many points as they defined. However, I can't figure out any way to do this.
Feel free to run the program, the problem lies in the method setTextFields(). Help please!

Expanding text field question?

Is it possible to have a text field push all other fields below it down the page as a user fills the box with text content?
ie. a text area with a logo graphic below it which always is positioned exactly the same distance between it and the content.

You can use a dynamic form created by LiveCycle Designer for this.

Unable to define Radio Button Text field & unable to change column position

Hi,
While designing a screen in Screen Painter, I am unable to define Radio Button Text field as this option is not there in Graphical Element. And also I want to specify the starting position of column of that element different from the default value, but I am unable to define that because the field is non-editable.
Can any one please help me out.
