LD_ASSUME_KERNEL values

Why we have to set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL 2.4.1 for RH9 and RH3 for Oracle 9i .
but LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to 2.4.19 for RHEL 4
Whats the difference between 2.4.1 and 2.4.19 , as far as i know they both conform to Linuxthread with floating stacks .
If i have LD_ASSUME_KERNEL set as 2.4.1 , on RHEL4 what could be the effect ? ?

    Hi Hussein :
    [1] Would you pls. tell me what you mean by "need to source" - is it just running .env file ? Under $APPL_TOP I see the following .env files : APPSORA, APPSVIS_oel5, VIS_oel5 and VIS; none of them having permission to run. So I chmod, ran VIS_oel5 and find LD_ASSUME_KERNEL value null - as usual (I am on OEL 5.3).

  • Is OEL5 or Red Hat 5.0 supported?

    Hi partners,
    I have a customer who is going to upgrade their environment from 11.5.9 to 12.1.1, also they want to change from Sun Solaris to Linux Red Hat 5.0
    I would like to know if Oracle Ebsuiness Suite 11.5.9 is certified in Red Hat 5.0?
    According to Metalink's Certify tab, there is nothing regarding to 11.5.9 certified on Linux Red Hat or Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.0.
    Also, in Red Hat 5.0 we don't need to define LD_ASSUME_KERNEL environment variable which is needed in previous releases.
    Upgrade path from 11.5.9 to 12.1.1 is supported, so I don't want to upgrade firstable to 11.5.10.2
    Any advice or comments will be really appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi;
    RHEL3, RHEL4, OEL4 any value from 2.4.1 to 2.4.19
    without setting any LD_ASSUME_KERNEL VALUE by default my kernel version is showing like
    #uname -r
    2.6.9-42.ELsmp
    so there is no need of setting the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL value in my environment RIGHT?As i understand you have OEL5 or RHEL5, then in same document it says:
    RHEL5, OEL5, SLES10 Should not be set
    If i miss something and u have RHEL3, RHEL4, OEL4 then in same document it says:
    So you should set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 which forces the kernel to use the /usr/lib/libc.so.6 because the /lib/tls/libc.so.6 is too high a version (2.4.20) and the /lib/libc.so.6 is not in the same version level (2.2.5).
    As you see your version higer(if you have RHEL4 etc),thatswhy set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 (If your version OEL5 or Red Hat 5.0 dont do nothing)
    Regard

  • CPU high utilization on OAS Server, how to find the cause of problem ?

    Hi all,
    We are running ADFBC application on OAS 10.1.3.3 on RH Linux ES 4. The database is Oracle 10g on RH Linux also.
    here is the setting in opmn.xml :
    <data id="java-bin" value="/opt/oracle/OraHome_oc4j/jdk64/jdk1.5.0_17/bin/java"/>
    <data id="java-options" value="-server -XX:CompileCommand=exclude,oracle/sql/NUMBER,toBytes
    -ms3072M -mx3072M -XX:+AggressiveHeap -XX:MaxPermSize=1024M -XX:AppendRatio=3 -Djava.security.policy=$ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/ittas/config/java2.policy
    -Djava.awt.headless=true -Dhttp.webdir.enable=false"/>
    Most of time I see (with linux "top" command) that CPU utilizationis 99.9 %
    And sometimes at that time user gets very slow that we have to restart the OC4J to the it normal again.
    How do I know what is the cause of that problem ?
    Thank you very much,
    xtanto

    Maybe this could help.
    Regars
    From note 467624.1
    Applies to:
    Oracle Containers for J2EE - Version: 10.1.2.0.0 to 11.0.0.0
    Linux x86
    Purpose
    To find out the java thread that is taking high CPU usage in OC4J
    This article is specific to Linux due to its threading model and makes specific use of parameters for the ps command that only exist in Linux but not in other operating systems. The general idea from this note might, however, be used on other platforms also, but then requires deeper knowledge of that operating system.
    Scope and Application
    If you are using the JDK 1.4 then you need to set the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL value to 2.4.1 to get the unique nid value.
    In JDK 1.5 setting the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to 2.4.1 is not required.
    Add this variable to ORACLE_HOME\opmn\conf\opmn.xml file as follows:
    <ias-instance id="j2ee3.host.domain">
    <environment>
    <variable id="TMP" value="/tmp"/>
    <variable id="LD_ASSUME_KERNEL" value="2.4.1"/>
    </environment>
    Find Out The Thread That Is Taking High CPU Usage In OC4J
    Step 1: Find out the Process ID of the OC4J container
    You can find out the pid from the output of the following command:
    ORACLE_HOME\opmn\bin> opmnctl status
    For example
    O_H\opmn\bin> opmnctl status
    Processes in Instance: j2ee3.host.domain
    ------------------------------------------------+---------
    ias-component | process-type | pid | status
    ------------------------------------------------+---------
    DSA | DSA | N/A | Down
    LogLoader | logloaderd | N/A | Down
    dcm-daemon | dcm-daemon | N/A | Down
    OC4J | home | 28370 | Alive
    WebCache | WebCache | 28380 | Alive
    WebCache | WebCacheAdmin | 28371 | Alive
    HTTP_Server | HTTP_Server | 28373 | Alive
    In this note, we will try to trace the java thread that is using high CPU in OC4J 'home'. The pid of 'home' container is 28370 according to the example.
    Step 2: Find the actual process ID
    Use the following command to find out the actual process ID:
    ps -ef | grep 28370
    rac 28370 28354 0 11:23 ? 00:00:01 /home/rac/j2ee2/jdk/bin/java
    rac 28377 28370 0 11:23 ? 00:00:00 /home/rac/j2ee2/jdk/bin/java
    In this case the actual java process is 28377.
    Step 3: Find out the thread which takes lot of CPU time
    Run the command
    watch "ps -eLo pid,ppid,tid,pcpu,comm | grep 28377"
    The thread ID of the thread that consumes high CPU time will be shown in the first column of the output
    Step 4: Take thread dump to trace the java thread with the thread ID.
    Take the thread dump using the following command:
    kill -3 28370 (process-id-from-opmn-status-output)
    The thread dump will be written to the log file at ORACLE_HOME\opmn\logs\OC4J~<OC4J_Container_Name>~default_island~1.
    Step 5: Trace the java thread.
    Convert the Thread ID you got from the command,
    ps -eLo pid,ppid,tid,pcpu,comm | grep 28377
    to hexadecimal and then search for this value in the thread dump.
    For example, if you get the thread id '5828' in the first column of this command, convert '5828' to hexadecimal:
    5828 (dec) corresponds to 0x16c4 (hex)
    Now search for nid=0x16c4 in the thread dump, and you may find something like:
    "RMIServer [0.0.0.0:12401] count:1" prio=1 tid=0xa7c1ee80 nid=0x16c4 runnable [a777e000..a777e22c]

  • Changing LD_ASSUME_KERNEL Post installation

    Hi ,
    I have installed Oracle9i on RHEL4 with LD_ASSUME_KERNEL set as 2.4.1 .
    I know that its not recommended setting for RHEL 4 .
    Can i change this value to LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 and restart DB ?
    will it work ? or do i need to reinstall oracle ?

    I have been investigating the performance of oracle database .
    I have recently installed oracle 9i on a 24 core , 64 GB memory server .
    I set the configuration same , but i am not seeing any difference in performance . actually in some cases like export . the performance has degraded significantly .
    My full export in the old server use to take 8 hours , now it takes 12 hours .
    During this investigation i came across this variable .
    I am not sure if the oracle , which was installed with 2.4.1 , will work if i change it to 2.4.19 .

  • LD_ASSUME_KERNEL  in RHEL5/OEL5

    Im running into this error:
    /u01/app/oracle/jre/1.1.8/bin/../lib/i686/native_threads/libzip.so: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference (libzip.so)
    Unable to initialize threads: cannot find class java/lang/Thread
    Could not create Java VM
    When trying to start 11.5.10 after upgrading to OEL5.
    The problem is well known and the solution has always been to set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to an appropriate value. Metalink 377217.1 suggests it be set to 2.4.19 for versions up to OEL4 but not set for OEL5. And, indeed, if you do set it in OEL5, nothing works - basic commands such as ls and cat fail with missing library errors.
    So what is the recommended way of dealing with the error in OEL5? As 377217.1 points out you can no longer set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL, but it doesn't offer an alternative solution to the problem which hasn't gone away in OEL5
    Thanks for any thoughts anyone can offer.

    Make sure LD_ASSUME_KERNEL does not get set in your environment or fix it during installation before it is executed as follows:
    1) Setup the environment as you would for running Applications on RH 4 or SLES9
    I.E. follow Oracle Applications Installation Update Notes, Release 11i (11.5.10.2)
    http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=316806.1
    2) Remove any LD_ASSUME_KERNEL references in O/S /etc/profile.d files. While in oracle and applmgr .profile, add the following:
    3) Comment out LD_ASSUME_KERNEL entries in $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adgetlnxver.sh and $AD_TOP/bin/adgetlnxver.sh
    if [ ${setflag}x = "x" -a $os = "Suse" ]; then
    # LD_ASSUME_KERNEL="2.4.21"
    # export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
    os="Suse"
    fi
    if [ ${setflag}x = "x" -a $os = "RH" ]; then
    # LD_ASSUME_KERNEL="2.4.19"
    # export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
    os = "RH"
    fi
    If doing a rapid install, the database startup will fail and rapidwiz will prompt to ignore or retry. At this point, edit $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adgetlnxver.sh as shown above and click on retry. It will then run to the autoconfig step at the end and error out. Just hit cancel, edit $AD_TOP/bin/adgetlnxver.sh as shown above.
    3) In order to relink cplex library executables (MSC, MSO, MSR, MST, WIP, etc), edit $AD_TOP/bin/adrelinknew.sh and add the following LD option (-Wl,--noinhibit-exec) in the LINUX section:
    LINUX)
    LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -ldl'
    DEBUG_LDFLAGS='-g -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -ldl'
    exe_line='ELF .*executable'
    SHRLIB_LD='gcc'
    LD='gcc'
    SHRLIB_LDFLAGS='-L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -shared'
    if test -f "/etc/redhat-release"; then
    CPP_LIBS='/usr/lib/libstdc++-2-libc6.1-1-2.9.0.so'
    elif test -f "/etc/SuSE-release"; then
    CPP_LIBS='/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.9'
    else
    CPP_LIBS=''
    fi
    CPP='g++'
    CPP_LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs
    set CPP_LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs
    to CPP_LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -Wl,--noinhibit-exec'
    After this chance, you can apply any MRP, ASCP patch and all executables will relink correctly. You can also use adadmin to relink all executables and it completes without error.
    This should work for 11.5.10/11.5.10.2/R12. There is no way to get the 11.5.9 1.1.8 java to run on kernels greater than 2.6.16.

  • Get all values from request.getParameter

    In ASP, I can do something like that...
    For each item in Request.Form
    Response.write "Name is:" & item & " value is:" & Request(item)
    Next
    How about in JSP? How do i get the names and values of the form using a loop?

    You can use request.getParameterNames() which will return an enumeration, then you can iterate through the enumeration and use request.getParameterValue(String paramName) method to get the values.

    if [ $resA -eq $resB ]; then
    echo "QA passed for sql1"
    else

    How do I change the value assigned to resB into a numeric variable?
    error:

    Change:
    resB=`grep '3 fields found: CLUSTER_CD, PRODUCT_DESC, TEAM_CD,' BCVP_Main_Loader.qvw.log | awk '{print $10}'`
    to this:
    resB=`grep '3 fields found: CLUSTER_CD, PRODUCT_DESC, TEAM_CD,' BCVP_Main_Loader.qvw.log | awk '{print $10}' | tr -d ,`
    to drop the comma. Or you could do it in awk(1):
    resB=`grep '3 fields found: CLUSTER_CD, PRODUCT_DESC, TEAM_CD,' BCVP_Main_Loader.qvw.log | awk '{ gsub( /,/, "", $10 ); print $10}'`
    Or you could to it all in awk(1):
    resB=`awk '
    /3 fields found: CLUSTER_CD, PRODUCT_DESC, TEAM_CD/ {
    gsub( /,/, "", $10 )
    print $10
    ' BCVP_Main_Loader.qvw.log`
    (This example was not tested, it's just for a model.)
    Someone more of an SQL guru than I can probably tell you how to change your numeric locale to avoid presenting those commas in the first place and avoid the problem.

    Hi,
    I have a query in CO-PA Value Field Linking.
    In my Development Client,
    1. Created a New Value Field (No Transport Request Generated)
    2. Linked to the above to new Conditon type created in SD. (Tranport request was generated) i.e. in Flow of Actual Values->Transfer of Billing Documents->Assign Value Fields
    However then i try creating a new Value Field in my Production Client it throws a message 'You have no authorization to change Fields".
    Is this an issue with authorization or i need to transport the Value field too from Development to Production client.
    Please Advise.
    Thanks in Advance,

    Thanks Phaneendra for the response.
    The creation of Value field did not create any tranportation request. Will this too be transported if i transport the Operating Concern.

    ord_dtl.submit_dt BETWEEN trunc(sysdate)-(6/24) and trunc(sysdate)+(7.59/24) . Please suggest . .59 hours is .59 * 60 * 60 = 2124 seconds (or .59 * 60 = 35.4 minutes), so the last time included in the range above is 07:35:24, not 07:59:59.
    If you really, really want to use BETWEEN (which includes both end points), then you could do it with date arithmentic:
    WHERE   ord_dtl.submit_dt  BETWEEN  TRUNC (SYSDATE) - (6 / 24)
                      AND         TRUNC (SYSDATE) + (8 / 24)
                                               - (1 / (24 * 60 * 60))but it would be simpler and less error prone to use INTERVALs, as Karthick suggested earlier:
    WHERE   ord_dtl.submit_dt  BETWEEN  TRUNC (SYSDATE) - INTERVAL '6' HOUR
                      AND         TRUNC (SYSDATE) + INTERVAL '8' HOUR
                                               - INTERVAL '1' SECONDEdited by: Frank Kulash on Apr 17, 2013 9:36 AM

    Changed "- (8 /24)" to "+ (8 /24)" in first code fragment (after Blushadown, below)

  • Unable to capture return values in web services api

    At the time of login to web services if my server is down ,
    it returns following error :
    java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1
            at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1438)
            at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1411)
    I want to capture this error so that i can try another server to login. how do i capture this error
    Another place where i want to capture the return Value is when i look for a report on the server
    rh = boBIPlatform.get("path://InfoObjects/Root Folder/"src_folder"/" + reportName +
                               "@SI_SCHEDULEINFO,SI_PROCESSINFO" ,oGetOptions);
    oInfoObjects = rh.getInfoObjects();
    CrystalReport = (CrystalReport)oInfoObjects.getInfoObject(0);
    Here if the report is not there on the server , it returns a null handler exception.
    but if i try catching it by checking my responsehandler is null  like rh == null  it does not catch it.
    Any help will be appreciated
    thanks
    Rakesh Gupta

    Ted : i have two cases
    1)   server = server_st.nextToken();
        providerURL = "http://"server"/dswsbobje/services";
        sessConnURL = new URL(providerURL + "/session");
       Connection boConnection = new Connection(sessConnURL);
       Session boSession = new Session(boConnection);
      EnterpriseCredential boEnterpriseCredential = new    EnterpriseCredential();
                  boEnterpriseCredential.setLogin(userid);
      boEnterpriseCredential.setPassword(pwd);
      boEnterpriseCredential.setAuthType(auth);
    SessionInfo boSI = boSession.login(boEnterpriseCredential);
    I have got a list of servers running web servcies stored in my tokens. when i pass the first server name say " test:8080" and that server is down , i want to catch somewhere in the code above that it did not get the connection so that i can loop back and try with the second server say test1:8080
    This is for failover purposes.
    at present when i was trying to capture return value of boSI it  breaks giving the error
    java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1
    at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1438)
    at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1411)
    2nd case :
    I am geeting reports from the server and scheduling them:
    i run the following code which works fine if reports is there
    rh = boBIPlatform.get("path://InfoObjects/Root Folder/"src_folder"/" + reportName +
    "@SI_SCHEDULEINFO,SI_PROCESSINFO" ,oGetOptions);
    oInfoObjects = rh.getInfoObjects();
    CrystalReport = (CrystalReport)oInfoObjects.getInfoObject(0);
    Here if  the  report  is not there on the server  then i should be able to catch from the response handle rh that it has got a null value.
    but rh does not return a null value
    the code ultimately throws a null handle at the following line
    CrystalReport = (CrystalReport)oInfoObjects.getInfoObject(0);
    i am not able to catch the null value there also.
    hope you got my issue.

  • Unable to capture the parameter values from a PL/SQL procedure

    hi.
    i'm trying to capture the parameter values of a PL/SQL procedure by calling inside a anonymous block but i'm getting a "reference to uninitialized collection error" ORA-06531.
    Please help me regarding.
    i'm using following block for calling the procedure.
    declare
    err_cd varchar2(1000);
    err_txt VARCHAR2(5000);
    no_of_recs number;
    out_sign_tab search_sign_tab_type:=search_sign_tab_type(search_sign_type(NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL));
    cntr_var number:=0;
    begin
         rt843pq('DWS','3000552485',out_sign_tab,no_of_recs,err_cd,err_txt);
         dbms_output.put_line('The error is ' ||err_cd);
         dbms_output.put_line('The error is ' ||err_txt);
         dbms_output.put_line('The cntr is ' ||cntr_var);
         for incr in 1 .. OUT_SIGN_TAB.count
         loop
         cntr_var := cntr_var + 1 ;
    Dbms_output.put_line(OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).ref_no||','||OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).ciref_no||','||OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).ac_no||','||OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).txn_type||','||OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).objid);
    end loop;
    end;
    Error is thrown on "for incr in 1 .. OUT_SIGN_TAB.count" this line
    Following is some related information.
    the 3rd parameter of the procedure is a out parameter. it is a type of a PL/SQL table (SEARCH_SIGN_TAB_TYPE) which is available in database as follows.
    TYPE "SEARCH_SIGN_TAB_TYPE" IS TABLE OF SEARCH_SIGN_TYPE
    TYPE "SEARCH_SIGN_TYPE" AS OBJECT
    (ref_no VARCHAR2(22),
    ciref_no VARCHAR2(352),
    ac_no VARCHAR2(22),
    txn_type VARCHAR2(301),
    objid VARCHAR2(1024))............

    We don't have your rt843pq procedure, but when commenting that line out, everything works:
    SQL> create TYPE "SEARCH_SIGN_TYPE" AS OBJECT
      2  (ref_no VARCHAR2(22),
      3  ciref_no VARCHAR2(352),
      4  ac_no VARCHAR2(22),
      5  txn_type VARCHAR2(301),
      6  objid VARCHAR2(1024))
      7  /
    Type is aangemaakt.
    SQL> create type "SEARCH_SIGN_TAB_TYPE" IS TABLE OF SEARCH_SIGN_TYPE
      2  /
    Type is aangemaakt.
    SQL> declare
      2    err_cd varchar2(1000);
      3    err_txt VARCHAR2(5000);
      4    no_of_recs number;
      5    out_sign_tab search_sign_tab_type:=search_sign_tab_type(search_sign_type(NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL));
      6    cntr_var number:=0;
      7  begin
      8    -- rt843pq('DWS','3000552485',out_sign_tab,no_of_recs,err_cd,err_txt);
      9    dbms_output.put_line('The error is ' ||err_cd);
    10    dbms_output.put_line('The error is ' ||err_txt);
    11    dbms_output.put_line('The cntr is ' ||cntr_var);
    12    for incr in 1 .. OUT_SIGN_TAB.count
    13    loop
    14      cntr_var := cntr_var + 1 ;
    15      Dbms_output.put_line(OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).ref_no||','||OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).ciref_no||','||OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).ac_no||','||OUT_SIGN
    TAB(incr).txntype||','||OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).objid);
    16    end loop;
    17  end;
    18  /
    The error is
    The error is
    The cntr is 0
    PL/SQL-procedure is geslaagd.Regards,
    Rob.

  • Unable to capture field values in Master agreement  Line Items

    I am trying to get the field values from master agreement line items page. I have written the following code to get the line item details which is working fine to capture part number and quantity->
    agreementBean = doc.getRootParentIBean();
    lineItemCollection = agreementBean.getLineItems();
    collectionsize = lineItemCollection.size();
    for(i=0;i<collectionsize;i++){
         collectionbean = lineItemCollection.get(i);
         partNum = ""+collectionbean.getPartNumber() ;
         Quantity = ""+collectionbean.getQuantity();
         throw doc.createApplicationException(null,partNum + " , " + Quantity );
    Now, my problem is that I am unable to capture the following field item values in the master agreement > line items page.
    1. Price Unit
    2. Unit Price
    3. Product Category
    4. Plant
    Please help me to find the values.
    Thankx in Advance.

    This will return the name of the plant.
    .getExtensionField("PLANT").get().getDisplayName(session);
    Check if this returns the product category
    collectionbean.getExtensionField("ITEM_CAT").get().getDisplayName();
    This will Return the Price
    collectionbean.getExtensionField("PRICE").get().getPrice();
    (return type :BigDecimal)
    This will return the currency
    collectionbean.getExtensionField("PRICE").get().getCurrency;
    (Return type:String)
    Similarly to retrieve other fields for which there are no standard functions, use .getExtensionField("Field ID")
    Hope this helps

    Immanuel
