Legend placement in Excel

Hi,
I'm trying to control the placement of a chart legend in Excel from Labview using active X. The VBA lines I need to perform in Labview are as follows:
ActiveChart.Legend.Select
Selection.Position = xlBottom
The problem I'm having is that I can't find an automation refnum for Selection. I have tried searching the Microsoft Excel Objects library but it does not seem to be there. I have attached a screen shot of the code. I am relatively new to active X so any help appreciated.
Thanks

  • Can't place formatted Excel file into ID?

Can't place formatted Excel 2010 data base into InDesign CS5 on Mac? Won't place into newest version of ID either. Will place if I unmerge cells first, but I need thousands of the cells to be merged.

I thought you might want to do that. No, once a PDF you can't edit to your heart's content.
So, as to the matter of thousands of cells? You may have to look that one up but there is a limit on what you can do with an Excel file and InDesign; there are only so many cells, columns and rows that can be imported and let alone worked on inside InDesign.
And you want to merge the cells in InDesign? What ever for? If thousands of cells then edit in Excel to your heart's content and output a PDF. InDesign is not designed as a spreadsheet and not the tool you need and will really bog down with thousands of cells to merge. Just do it in Excel.

  • How do I place an Excel chart as new sheet instead of on a worksheet

I want to place a chart in an Excel Workbook "As New Sheet' versus "on a worksheet".  Does anybody have any examples?  Thank You Ernie Graff

I should add that although I am using the Report Generation software, I have copied and modifed some of the sub VS's (activeX) for aditional features.  (e.g. Turning off Automatic font resizing and rotating the Y axis title 90 degrees.  I just can't seem to figure out how to place the chart in an Excel Workbook "As New Sheet'.  I attempted to copy & modify the Excel Add Worksheet vi to change the TYPE of sheet that is added.  I just get unknown errors.
    Thank You

  • legend placement

I've been keeping this locked up for a while - but now - it's
    just one of
those little, little picky things that absolutely bothers me.
In Firefox - I LOVE the way the
    <legend>Blah</legend> text is placed in
regards of its position to the left. However, in IE - it's
    over to the right
noticably and drives me crazy. I've tried margins, padding,
    and still, it
seems, nothing works to get it more-left like in Firefox.
Does anyone know a fix - or is this a stupid IE thing that
    can't be
    resolved?

  • How to place the Excel fine in the UNIX Directory

    Hi Gurus,
We are having requirement where in the data extracted from Bex Query has to ve placed in UNIX directory in CSV formate.
      It is very urgent.
    Thanx in Advance.

    Hi,
We have a similar set up in our organization. The user inputs data through a workbook and a CSV file is output to a particular location. The jobs then pick up the file and load it to the server.
We have VB code in teh workbook that is written behind a button. Once the user uploads his data and hits the button, a CSV file with that data is created and placed in a specific loacation via eufuse. You can also use SYNCRA. That file is then picked up by our jobs and loaded to BW.
    Cheers,
    Kedar

  • What is best way to place Excel Spreadsheet online for editing?

I need to place an Excel Spreadsheet on a website in such a way people are invited to add content. Google Docs provides a way to do this, but it has been problematic. Can someone suggest a way I can do this with Dreamweaver (or another Adobe product)?
    Thanks

What was problematic that you need to overcome?  The problem I foresee with using and Office document in an open environment is sharing privileges which would be solved by Google docs.  There is Office 365 which is a hosted solution like Google, but it is offered at a per user license so I don't think that allows you to share documents publicly.  There is also Office web apps: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/web-apps/ .  I don't know how these could integrate those solutions into your website though without an iframe.
What kind of data will these people be editing?

  • Excel report generation error

    Hi,
Does anyone have experienced (and solved) this behaviour?
I've been using the report generation toolkit to build word report without
problem. I've also solved a lot of problems in the excel part of the toolkit
(e.g. building graphs with >20000 points). It finally works in development
    environment.
Now when I install the executable (, with the installer) the word reports
still work, but the excel report don't. The executable does run on a
different system, but the excel versions are the same (both Excel 2000).
I have copied the excel library in the data directory of the executable.
    The following error is generated:
    -2147319784
Old format or invalid type library
    Excel_Open.vi
This is the first report generation vi that is called. I us
    e it to open a
    template.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Wiebe.

    Hi,
Surfing the internet, I found this comment:
    *Start quote*
Sometimes you'll find that a parameter is required that isn't mentioned
anywhere in the application's documentation. This happens when you need to
specify system information: the chief example of this is the lcid, which is
a locale identifier, and which pops up all over the place in Excel. The good
news is that there is a constant in the Windows unit which provides you with
    the correct value, LOCALE_USER_DEFAULT:
    var
    lcid: integer;
    begin
    lcid := LOCALE_USER_DEFAULT;
    Excel.Visible[lcid] := True;
There's also a function, GetUserDefaultLCID, but using that value can cause
an error, complaining about an 'old format or invalid type library' on some
    setups. Using LOCALE_USER_DEFAULT for the
    LCID value should fix that.
    *End quote*
    Could this be the problem?
    Regards,
    Wiebe.

  • No Filter for Excel Import

I am using ID 5.0.4 (CS3) on Vista. I am trying to place an Excel file into a table. I get the error message, "Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation."
I've tried saving the file into older Excel versions.
This might be the first time I've tried to do this since I had to replace my XP machine with this Vista one. I am not sure if this is an install issue or what. Any help appreciated.

I think what happened here is that the guy sending me the file is using Office 2007. Since he knows I'm not, he saved to a previous file version, and it was not recognized by InDesign. When I pulled up the file, I didn't need to change it at all, so I never just saved it down. Instead, when it wouldn't load in InDesign, I tried older file versions thinking that the file version might be one the Adobe programmers had not yet written the code for.
I saved as several different file types, including XML. XML did look like it would solve my problem, but I did not know how to map the file columns to the table columns. From the look of it, though, XML will probably eliminate a lot of the file format headaches in the future.

  • ID Named Ranges from Excel 2003 not appearing in 2007

    ID CS3, Office/Excel 2007, PC based.
I recently upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2007. Open an Excel file and save it as Office 2007 document. All the named ranges that I had previously set up are still there.
I go to ID and want to update the links - I get the message that link isn't found, re-link. I try to place the Excel named ranges from the Office 2007 document into ID, but the named ranges don't show up in the Cell Range box in the Microsoft Excel Import Options window.
    Anybody else experience this?

Thanks. Maybe I can get CS4 (or CS5) worked into the budget for 2011.

  • Excel file into InDesign document

I am planning on making our price list in InDesign so I easily can make it "nicer" than in Excel.
Today we have it all in an Excel file but how do I go about putting this info in InDesign? I want the Excel file to be the "origin", if I need to change the prices etc, I want to make them in the Excel file and then relink it to InDesign - if that's possible, that is...
I want it in A5 format, should the Excel file also be made in A5 then?
Today the price list is in one Excel Book and then separated into different pages (if that is the correct word for it, I have Excel in Swedish!). Is that OK or should I just make one long list with all the products.
I tried making an InDesign doc in size A5 and then an Excel file in the size of A5. But when importing the Excel file into InDesign it looked really weird! Numbers came as red dots and all the info didn't fit.
    What did I do wrong!?
I'd appreciate all the help I could get! Maybe you know how to do this or where I can read more about it. I'm not that good at InDesign, still consider myself as a beginner...
    Thanks!

    Emma,
Have you gotten any further with your question? I am in the process of updating our pricing information and I am laying our pricers out in InDesign so that I can make them look "nicer" also. I have been doing research on linking Excel files to InDesign and it has come in very handy. There are some issues I have run into, however, which were mentioned in some of the other responses you have gotten.
First of all, your Excel info isn't coming in correctly because of formatting issues. When you place and link an Excel file, you can indicate what sheet you want to place and even a named range or cell range of that sheet. You can also indicate in that options window whether you want it to be placed as an unformatted table, formatted table or unformatted tabbed text. You will want to choose formatted or unformatted table depending on how you want your InDesign file to look. You can do all of the formatting for your table in Excel and place it as a formatted table, which works o.k., but you will have to deal with a couple of adjustments after you place the file. Your text probably won't show up because of the default settings for the indents of the cells in a table in InDesign. All you have to do for that is double click in your text box and select the whole table. Then you can right click or go to the Table menu and choose Cell Options. Set the Top and Bottom Cell Insets to 0, I usually set my vertical justification to center while I am at it. You could also adjust the row heights to make the text fit.
A wonderful tool to use is a plug in for InDesign by Teacup called TableStyles and CellStyles. I recently discovered this and have started trying to work with it. I came across it by looking around online for information and discussions much like this one. I discovered that we already had this plugin in our program files, but it was not in the correct spot to be able to use the function when I was in InDesign. I had to move the plugins from a Teacup folder within my PlugIns folder. They need to be in the PlugIns folder under Tables.
At any rate, I know I am on the right path, but I am running into a few snags that I haven't been able to find any information on yet. It is best to place the Excel files as unformatted tables when you plan to use the TableStyles and CellStyles to do your formatting, but I have found that it seems as though linking to separate sheets and ranges becomes an issue when you want to update a link. It doesn't keep the sheet and range information you indicated when you first placed the file....? Haven't dug up any information on that yet.
I hope at least some of this is helpful, sorry for rambling on, I just was going through the same thing and wish I had found out about these plugins, etc. sooner. :)

  • Formating fonts when placing excel files.

I need some help. I am creating a catalouge for my business and we use a "proprietary font". We are using an excel spread sheet to link our data to the ID file, as our prices change a couple of times a year and I don't want to keep having to change the cataloge one line at a time. When I place the excel file and change the font and do the set up all is good. It is only when I change a price in the excel file and update the ID (cs5) file that ID changes my font to Times New Roman. Is there a way to have ID keep the font formating so I don't have to change the font everything every time I update the excel file?
    Thanks

Thanks Bob.. I knew someone would know this. Though I felt silly asking the question in the first place. I do love forums.

  • For Each Loop Load Dynamic Excel Files

    Hi All,
    SSIS 2005
I want to load excel file .xls one at a time files that have different names without having to select the file in the connection manager, every time. So a user can easily place the excel file in the folder and right the sql job and it loads the file data.
The data flow tasks all work when I manually select the excel file, but I am unable to get this to work dynamically.
I have setup a for each loop with multiples data flow tasks and sql tasks to load my data from file.
    Variables:
    @filename d:\new file\*.xls
    For Each Loop:
    ForEachFile Enumerator
    Folder: d:\new file\
    Files: *.xls
    Retrieve File Name: Fully Qualified
    Variable Mappings:
    User::filename (index 0)
    Connection Managers:
Excel Connection Manager: Expressions, ConnectionString @[User::filename]
Error Message: Error at new buyer(package name) the connection string format is not valid. it must consist of one or more components of the form X=Y, seperated by semicolons.
    Can anyone assist thanks.

You still need the file name variable.
ExcelFilePath is the fully qualified file name of your Excel file. ie. it contains both the path and file name.
    e.g. D:\inbox\myExcelFile.xls
All the steps you mentioned are correct, except you need to set the property of ExcelFilePath of the Excel connection to the variable that you map to in the ForEach Loop:
    Connection Managers:
Excel Connection Manager: Expressions, ExcelFilePath @[User::filename]
    Hope this helps.

  • VC Chart legend Display

    Hello Everybody,
Here we are facing a problem in our Visual composer Dashboard.
We have upgraded the patch level of EP server from SP10 to SP17 and BW patch level is SP19.
We are using VC 7.0 with compiler Flex2.
In our Dashboard we are displaying some Queries's results via "Line" chart type.
In Category Axis field we have 'fiscal_year_period'. In Data Series field we have one key figure per Business area (There are 25 Data Series key figures).
    eg.  Generation per Business Area.
         Generation for 1033
         Generation for 1004
         Generation for 1007
         Generation for 1015
Now we are filtering the Queries's output according to Buisness Area. But after the filteration of values in Chart the legends (Legend Placement = below ) are not changing dynamicaly as per the input Buisness Area.
eg . If we have filtered for two Business Areas the Chart is also coming for two Business Areas but the legends (Legend Placement = below ) are coming for all Business Areas.
Kindly Help us as we are not able to find any solution.
    Thanks & Regards
    Nivedita

    Hi Nivedita,
Of course you have this problem becouse the Data Series declaration is static.
You can hide the legent and the end user can use tooltip in order to understand line's Business Area.
If this solution is not enough, give some table generated from the same query with same filtering and for each row attach color used in chart (the appearance of chart colors is permanent). It's something very tricky and may bring down the performance.
Another way is to use Business Graphics of WebDynpro in order to create your dashboard and forget about problems like this
    Good luck,
    Ola
