Letter Spacing (formating) Coldfusion to PDF

I've been trying to figure out a way to control letter
spacing in Adobe LiveCycle 7 ES. I'm new to the program and have
tried some javascript, etc, but with no success.
I created a PDF file containing a dynamic image and 2 font
fields.
I'm passing the value from Coldfusion MX 8, using the
cfpdfform/cfpdfsubform/cfpdfformparam. I can successfully pass the
the value to the image and both text fields, but, I need to have
formating (letter spacing) for one of the fields.
I'm guessing there's a way to do it, possibly within the xml
source file, or some sort of javascript attatched to the Text Field
object.
If anyone out there has any idea, I would really appreciate
it. I'm not sure why adobe did'nt add a letter spacing (kerning)
tool for formatting fonts/characters. You can do line spacing, why
not letter..hhhmm??

Letter spacing wrong when generting pdf in web service

I have a turnkey JBoss Installation on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard.
When I create a pdf document out of an doc (Office 2003 SP3) or docx (Word 2007 SP2)
with the web services I get wrong letter spacing. If I simply create a pdf out of Microsoft Word with the
installed Adobe Add-On on the same server the spacing is correct.
There is no error or warning in all the log files.
I tried already all kind of settings in the font settings, but no success.
You can see the differences in the attachment.
Any help would be appreciated.
Answer: I tested a lot by myself and finally it worked. I am still not 100% sure why, but I think it is the following:
When you have configured the turnkey installation, everything is up and running afterwards. But then you have these strange letter spacings.
When you restart the jboss service (Windows) then it is correct afterwards.

But would you know if the font was not embedded (other than by looking at the file properties) when viewing on a system where it is installed?
It looks to me as if the spacing issue is confined to the headings. Is that right? Have you previewed the page with custom tracking and kerning highlighted in ID (you'll find those settings in the preferences under Composition)? On screen shot the spacing looks very even so that's what I'd check first.
What does the ID file look like for those same pages?

How can I embed files of word, excel, and pdf format in a pdf document

I have a word document of the product, which I am updating for next product release. However, there are some excel, word, and pdf files embedded within a word document. When I double click these embedded files in word, these files open in a new window. However, we deliver documentation to the customer in the pdf format. Therefore, when I am converting the word document in the pdf format, only an icon of the embedded file is displayed and the files do not open in a new window. Can someone let me know how can I embed these files (in word, excel, and pdf format) in a pdf document?

You must attach them to the PDF file after it is created. You cannot embed file attachments onto a page as you can with Word.

Small, niggling irritation - irregular letter-spacing on screen

I've now taken the time to check and compare, thanks to mif, and am certain that the two FrameMakers resident on my PC behave just that little bit differently:
in 8.0p277, with Adobe PostScript* as the default printer, letter-spacing is fine
in 9.0p237, again with Adobe PostScript* as the default printer, letter-spacing is just that bit off here and there
I vaguely remember talk of something like "printer metrics", but from long enough ago for me to remember nothing useful. If someone can tell me what to tweak to get 9.0 displaying documents as comfortably as 8.0 did, I'll be grateful! Thanks in advance.

I prefer the On setting, myself. If I understand it correctly, setting
DisplayUsingPrinterMetrics=Off makes the type look clearer at lower zoom
levels by making the characters best fit the actual pixels on your screen.
The downside is that the line lengths are no longer correct. I've actually
seen it make type extend beyond the text frame. It prints okay, but looks
very freaky on screen. I seem to recall that it sometimes gave me fits
trying to line up text and graphics, too, because the type does not fall
where it will print.
Setting DisplayUsingPrinterMetrics=On makes the line lengths on screen
accurate. It does this by fudging the intercharacter distances a bit. This
is only visible at low zoom settings. If you zoom to, say, 200%,
intercharacter distances are accurate, too, because there are enough pixels
to divide things up nicely.
So, the setting lets you choose between the clearest characters, or the
clearest layout.

I've created a fillable PDF document in XI Pro. I need to change the body of the document and create a new fillable PDF document. When I do that it won't let me create a new PDF. It keeps saying "no new fields recognized. What can I do to redo my document with the changes in the text, but no changes in the fillable fields?

You start with a source / authoring file for the "static" content (e.g., Name, Last:). Say this is an MS Word file.
You master the "static" content..
You keep this authoring file and have a backup of this file.
You output a PDF and use Acrobat to build and fine tune the "form" (form = the form fields, not the "static" content).
The authoring file and output PDF (with form fields) gives you "rev 00".
Now, you must change something in the "static" content.
Open the authoring file and save as to a new version (e.g., "wordfile_v00" becomes "wordfile_v01).
Output this to "pdffile_v01".
Use Acrobat to open the PDF form file "pdffile_v00". Save As to a new file name ("pdffile_v00update").
Using Acrobat XI Pro the click-path Tools - Pages - Replace lets you replace a page or pages of "pdffile_v00update" with a page or pages from "pdffile_v01".
This replaces the "static" PDF page content and does not affect the form fields on the page.
(you may have to adjust position of form fields)
Save "pdffile_v00update" to "pdffile_v01" to reflect the revised status of the PDF form file.

Use function module 'SCMS_XSTRING_TO_BINARY' to convert from XString to a Binary table. Just like this:

To send the email in an OO way you should user class CA_SEND_REQUEST_BCS. Take a look to program BCS_EXAMPLE_6 or any of the test programs in package SBCOMS.

Yes, you can do all of that via Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Import Data, if you have Acrobat.
If you only have the free Reader then you can still do it, but it requires a script.

Acrobat 9- convert pdf to html, not retaining format as original pdf.

I'm needing to upload a completed irs form to my website. I have the pdf, but when i export or save as an html file, the image looks different. It is not retaining the original look/format of the pdf form.
Alternatively, is there a way to export multiple pages into one single jpg, png or tiff file? my document is 34 pages.

HTML by its very nature has a varying format to meet the needs of the browser and screen. It should never be expected to see the same format when converting to HTML. Actually I am surprised you could even convert it to HTML since most IRS forms are secure and do not allow such operations. If you want to post it to your site for some reason, just post the PDF file itself.

Does this essentially mean there is no way to fix this problem on my end? It's a pity because the design and branding of my brochure will suffer if I remove transparencies and use different fonts. It also concerns me moving forward because it means the quality of print on my pieces will be significantly lower because most commercial printers use Adobe products.

Can Sentinel RD reports be in CSV format instead of PDF

iReport. I was wondering if I can generate a custom report where the
output is in CSV format instead of PDF and can be scheduled in the same
way as the PDF are.

Here is how to output report results in CSV format in SLM 1.1 (or
later):
STEP 1: Go to the $ESEC_CONFIG_HOME directory on your SLM server (It
will be something like: /etc/opt/novell/sentinel_log_mgr/config).
STEP 2: Open the file
"obj-component.JasperReportingComponent.properties" for editing.
STEP 3: Specify the following fields/values in that properties file:
reporting.csv.enable=true
reporting.csv.email=true
reporting.csv.outputdir=/opt/mycsvreportresults
STEP 4: Save the file.
STEP 5: I *think* you have to restart the SLM server after making
changes to any of these properties.
Some things to take note of:
NOTE 1: You can specify any directory (that the novell user has
permission to write to) in the "reporting.csv.outputdir" setting. This
will cause a .csv file to be created in that directory whenever a report
is run.
NOTE 2: If you set the "reporting.csv.email" setting to true, the .csv
report results will be included with any report results that are
emailed.
NOTE 3: The CSV results will include all of the report information in
the the .csv... including the header information any output from any
subreports. That additional information may not always be desireable in
the CSV results, so if you find the format of the .csv to not be what
you need or too difficult to work with, you might want to consider
creating a new report where there results/output are more optimized for
.csv output (may without any header or subreport information).
NOTE 4: Regardless of whether csv output is enabled or not, the
standard PDFs results will always be generated.
NOTE 5: The CSV results are not accessible through the GUI, but instead
are accessible by looking in the directory you specify via the
"reporting.csv.outputdir" property ... or via any report result emails
if the "reporting.csv.email" property is set to true.
NOTE 6: Just FYI: That "reporting.pdf.outputdir" property that you will
also see in the "obj-component.JasperReportingComponent.properties" file
is if you want to have the PDF results to be placed in a directory on
the server. (PDF results will always be accessible via the GUI
regardless of this setting.)

Dreamweaver CS4 Code Letter Spacing Issue

Hello,
I am currently running Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 on my Macbook Pro. We use it on a daily basis to keep our corporate website up-to-date. During the past few weeks, we have developed a very odd issue in the DW code editing pane. The letter spacing is completely off, which is odd considering that the font is monospaced. A large space will appear between characters even though no space is actually there. I have included a screenshot below of some new code I recently entered. Notice the space between the form names and the apostrophes. It appears as though there is one space between the name and the apostrophe, however there is none. The code still works fine, but this becomes very frustrating when attempting to enter new code.
I should also mention that none of my code developed prior to approximately two weeks ago has been effected. Only when I attempt to enter new code is the spacing effected.
Is this a known issue? Any ideas of what could be going on?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, you're welcome!
I know, so many of these things you don't find with a cursory review of menu-items and preferences. Then when you need them, you might not have noticed them first time through.
That's one reason I like the Forums: you learn things you didn't know you needed to know...
I've noticed that system fonts change from system to system, and sometimes you "lose" a font when you go to a new computer.
