Letters missing in file names

so thankfully this is not happening to me, but my friend is having a hard time. Whenever he is online, many pages are missing "O"s and "A"s. I thought maybe his browser was acting up amd as an experiment downloaded Firefox. Which is when I realized that the file on his desktop read Firef_x.
curious. so i created a new folder called "aaaooo," and the folder name read aaoo.
repaired permissions, and it's still happening. any ideas what could be causing this problem? he is on the same OS as I and doesn't have applecare (typical).

Missing letters are often caused by damaged or defective fonts resulting in a
corrupted font cache. Does the system have any 3rd party fonts installed? Does the font checking tool report problems?
See: <http://db.tidbits.com/article/10433>
You can try deleting the font cache using atsutil or a 3rd party tool.

  • How to replace first letters of a file name using Power shell or CMD

    Hi guys i am having a problem on mane files that i have which are duplicated. The main reason i cant group them by name is because they have numbers in front of their name which differs Eg
    01 - fileName.txt
    09 - fileName.txt
    02 - fileName.txt
    11 - fileName.txt
    i have a shed loads of them and would like to rename them by deleting the first three characters if they are numbers. I managed to create a powershell script to do that but the problem was that it would not work properly because the file would have a duplicated
    name after deleting the first few chars.
    can anyone help with a better script which would add a number to the end of the file name eg:
    fileName1.txt
    fileName2.txt
    fileName3.txt
    Ps all the files start with two numbers followed by a dash, however i have manually done a few which does not start with numbers and should be left alone by the script
    Thank you

    Here's a quick way to do it. I'm not sure what your existing code looks like but it sounds like you could incorporate this line into it.
    if ($oldfilename -match "[0-9]")
    $newfilename = $oldfilename.split("-")[1].trim().split(".")[0] + $oldfilename.split("-")[0].trim() + "." + $oldfilename.split("-")[1].trim().split(".")[1]
    else
    $newfilename = $oldfilename
    01 - fileName.txt becomes fileName01.txt
    fileName.txt stays fileName.txt

  • Missing titles / file names

    Until recently photos imported into iPhoto took as their title the name of the file eg IMG_0611.JPG. Now the titles are blank, is this something that can be controlled in the importing process?
    Thanks for any help.

    Do the filenames look as usual in the Finder?
    Try this basic fix trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
    For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Target file name using Dynamic Configuration

    Hi,
    Currently we have requirement Idoc to File interface.In this scenario if one field exists infile then we have to check and we need to create update directory and  if it is not exist then we should create one more  directory and upload files over there there files should create with timestamp. Since,File system using Sql database so we have used JDBC lookup to check that particaluar field  and if it exists we are passing update to UDF if it is not then we are passing constant Create to that. If we use Adapter Specific Message Attributes  then in reciever side file Communication Channel addtimestap will it consider or do we have to write anything in Udf it self? Could anybody explain on this?Please provide some sample udf .
    Thanks ,

    Hi,
            I have added little changes to the code you have written, to meet your expectations
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","Directory");
    conf.put(key,"/sap-dev/" +a);
    DynamicConfiguration conf1 = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key1 = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File", "FileName");
    string filename=conf1.get(key1);
    final String DATE_FORMAT_NOW = "dd-MM-yyyy_HH-mm-ss";
    String s;
    java.text.SimpleDateFormat sdf = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat(DATE_FORMAT_NOW);
    java.util.Calendar cal = java.util.Calendar.getInstance();
    s=sdf.format(cal.getTime());
    filename=a+" "+"User_"+s+".txt";
    conf1.put(key1,filename);
    return " ";
    So if value of input variable "a" is "update" then the target directory will be "/sap-dev/update" and the file formed will have name "update User_26-12-2011_01-20-50.txt", of course the date and time values will change depending on server settings. I just showed a sample. one more point, the directory will not be created, you have to create the directories before you run the scenario, only the final directory will be decided depending on value of variable "a". In case you wanna create new directory if directory is not pre-existing then try ticking  on "Create Target Directory" option under "file access parameters" in communication channel. (I have never used this option u can have a try. )
    Now coming to your queries
    1. But whether file type txt automatically it will take or do we have to give in udf it self ?
    ans) You have to put the value in UDF as I have done in code.
    2.    how it will consider timestamp ?
    ans) This has been generated in UDF itself.
    3.  how i can give file extension .txt?
    ans) same as ans 1
    4. And also in Receiver Communication Channel under Adapter Specific Message attributes we have option of file type how it works?
    ans) File type determines is the file you are going to write is of type "text" or "binary". From "Processing Parameters" tab you can select this from drop down menu in communication channel or you can set it through ASMA properties in similar manner as you have done for file name and directory name. For more details refer to http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/bc/bb79d6061007419a081e58cbeaaf28/content.htm
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/en/44/6830e67f2a6d12e10000000a1553f6/content.htm
    Finally few more points I would like to add
    1) you have  not mentioned the operating system of the server where file is going to form. In case its UNIX/LINUX you are not allowed to use space in the filename. you can consult these links before you decide on file name and directory name in the UDF mentioned above
    http://www.med.nyu.edu/rcr/rcr/nyu_vms/unixfileanddirectorynames.htm     (UNIX)
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa365247(v=vs.85).aspx#naming_conventions  (WINDOWS)
    2) you can alter the string "DATE_FORMAT_NOW" as per your requirement so  that the timestamp appears in the way you want. I have just showed a sample.
    3) Plesae do not forget to tick on the options "Use Adapter-Specific Message Attributes indicator", "Fail If Adapter-Specific Message Attributes Missing", indicators "File Name" and "Directory" under "Define Adapter-Specific Message Attributes." in receiver communication channel.
    Hope this solves your problem.
    Wish my dear forum members and users of SDN
    Merry Christmas and Happy new year (in advance)
    Regards
    Anupam
    N.B:- I initially forgot to add the ".txt" part to the file name. I made necessary corrections in code now.

  • Excel 2010 missing default suggested file name in Save As dialog box

    I’m using Excel 2010 running on Windows 7 (32 bit).  When I open a certain file which produces the following message: "A file is in a different file format than its extension indicates", and then go to “Save As” (or “Save”) the
    file, the default suggested file name is missing (blank).  This didn't occur in previous versions of Excel.
    In previous versions, Excel would automatically populate the original file name in to the File Name field.
      I have searched all over the net, looking for a way to change Excel so that it will once again populate the file name in this situation.
    To reproduce:
    Create a new blank workbook
    save as type “Web Page”, (i.e. File name:  “Blank Example.html”)
    Close workbook
    In windows, rename file from .html to .xls  (i.e. rename “Blank Example.html” to “Blank Example.xls”)
    In Excel open renamed file (i.e. “Blank Example.xls”) and click “Yes” when prompted with the “A file is in a different file format than its extension indicates” message.
    Do a “Save As” and you will notice that the File Name is blank. In previous versions, this field would contain the current workbook file name
     (i.e. “Blank Example.xls”)
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jaynet,
    In order to re-produce this, you need to answer "yes" to the rename file prompt and then continue with step 5 (above).
    The reason for this is not an exercise in futility - I assure you.  At my work and elsewhere, when web developers have created features to permit the end user to save web data in Excel format, often times the Excel files are saved locally in Excel's
    html format (but with the .xls
    extension).
    (I actually prefer the .xls
    extension, because it is easier to just double-click the file to open in Excel, rather than to select the open-with and then select Excel. a file with the .html extension will default open in your default browser. Now, I could change my default program
    for the .html extension, but that would only solve a part of the problem and would not really address the bigger issue and that being that Microsoft changed a behavior in Excel and may not even be aware that it was a much used feature. )
    To continue, when I go to open the resulting Excel file, I am prompted with the message that the file type does not match the extension (which is fine and not bothersome to me).  It's at this point when I go to save the file that I get really annoyed.
    In previous versions of Excel, the default file name would be pre-filled with the current name of the file and the default file type would state that it is a Web html file.  I would just change the file type to Excel Workbook and hit enter to save.
    I would be prompted with "Are you sure you want to overwrite your existing file?" message and I would click "yes" and that would be that.
    However, in Excel 2010, because the default file name is blank, I then need to re-type the name into the field to save the file.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing." ?

    What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing."   I am in the process of importing photos from iPhoto (don't really know what I'm doing....) and when I look at one of the imported photos that message pops up.  I know what "DSC_0088.jpg" is.  I don't know what it means that the file is "missing".

    CASpyr,
    Thank you so much for your reply.  I have a couple of bigger issues that I am dealing with: too many photos on my laptop: 40,000! (Of course I have to throw away many of them, but that is time consuming). I have a MacBook Pro and have primarily used IPhoto. I have recently purchased 2 external drives and have transferred my photos to those, but I need a basic education about how photos are stored, copied, etc.  I have recently been told that iPhoto only shows and deals with jpegs, not RAW.  About 1/3 of my photos are RAW, so I purchased Lightroom, so I could do more with those RAW photos.  I have been told by my local Mac store that I need to delete most of my photos from iPhoto, because it's causing problems.  I am reluctant to do so until I am sure that all of the keywords, descriptions and editing I have done to these photos is not lost when deleted from iPhoto. I just watched a tutorial about importing to Lightroom and got out of it that I needed to copy photos from iPhoto to a file on my desktop and then copy to Lightroom.  I did that, it seemed to work.  Then (because of my storage/memory issues) I deleted the photos (just a few as an experiment) from that desktop file.  I'm guessing that is why Lightroom doesn't recognize the the photos.  It seems that (learned from another tutorial) that one uses "Add" , Lightroom is only connecting to the source of the photo, not  actually copying it to the program.  Sounds like I need to use the "Move" feature instead.  My ultimate goal is to store the photos on the 2 external drives and eliminate most of them from my lapop.  So my basic questions have to do with what data (metadata??) is copied from iPhoto to an external drive (RAW???) and what isn't copied. Basic understanding issues,obviously….  I hope this isn't too much to ask.  If you can recommend a book or resource that can explain those basic issues to me I'd appreciate it.  I just got back from a trip and I can't download my new photos until I manage the rest!
    Thanks,
    Nancy

    I imported files from an external hard drive to Itunes on a new computer.  they imported & play fine, but the ratings & playlists are gone & i am unable to update any info.  I found a file name playlist on old drive & imported now most files are missing!  Help!

    Can you locate the iTunes Library.itl file on the old drive? Ideally you would have simply copied over the entire iTunes folder structure from <User's Music> on the old computer into <User's Music> on the new one to transfer the library will all playlists, ratings, play counts etc. intact.

  • Missing Breadcrumbs Caused by Similar File Names

    Using only the SSL option to generate the breadcrumbs
    As in some previously posted cases, a few topics in a large project are missing breadcrumbs. There are no quotation marks or other unsual characters in the file names or titles. I was able to narrow down one error to something I could fix in a test project.
    In the following HHC entries, the breadcrumbs were missing from the "General Ledger Processing Recap (AM72)" topic when the help was generated. But when I changed the file name of the parent topic from General_Ledger_Options.htm to GenLdgrOpt.htm, the breadcrumbs appeared correctly in the output for the parent and child topics.
    This stragegy for fixing the breadcrumb problem seems to be hit-or-miss. For example, I've tried the same approach to fix another topic and have had no success so far. Is there anything about how breadcrumbs are generated that would explain how renaming the file would fix the problem?

    Rick,
    I think you are right about the file name length being an important factor, but the cause doesn't seem to be as simple as a too-deep nesting level. I was able to fix the problem in another topic by shortening the file name of the topic that preceded it at the same level.
    The one hard case that remains is a topic that contains a lot of bookmarked subheadings. I found that if I cut that topic's number of subheading TOC entries to 33, the breadcrumbs for the topic worked, but with 34 TOC entries, they did not. My best guess is that there is a limitation of some kind on the internal aggregation of TOC information -- including information about siblings and children.
    By the way, I also tried inserting breadcrumb placeholders, instead of automatically generating them. That caused RoboHelp to crash (instead of just failing to add breadcrumbs to the offending topic). When I removed the placeholder from the bad topic, it worked OK with the other topics.

  • Missing "Content-Disposition" and attachment's file name

    We're testing OCFO 10.1.3.0.6 with MS Outlook 2003 and found some problems when message with attachments is received.
    If the attachment's file name is encoded and the body part looks like:
    Content-Type: application/msword; name="=?utf-8?B?encoded name?="
    Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="=?utf-8?B?encoded name?="
    everything is OK - the message is displayed as expected and the attachment's file name is decoded right.
    But, if Content-Disposition field is missing, the attachment's file name is not decoded - it's displayed as "=?utf-8?B?encoded name?=" (the name is obviously taken from Content-Type's name parameter), we loose information about file's type and we can't open the attachment.
    It seems that MS Outlook (without OCFO) is "smart" enough to decode Content-Type's name parameter as file name in the absence of Content-Disposition field. The same is true for Thunderbird.
    Any ideas?

    Actually the "name" parameter in Content-Type was declared depricated in RFC 1521 in september 1993, (now belongs to Content-Disposition) so they can be excused in a way....

  • Missing File Messages / iWeb adding -1 to files names

    I am trying to create a website using iWeb '09 but I am have an issue with missing file messages. I created the site without an issue. Opened it up the following day and immediately received missing file messages for almost all pages on the site. iWeb appends a -1 to valid file names ex: IMG_12345 -> iWeb message = missing file IMG_12345-1. I am also receiving the missing file messages with the template images which are not being used on the website (dragged and dropped my images over template images).
    I tried to delete the pages then recreate them but that didn't work either. I also deleted the com.apple.iWeb.plist file (emptied trash) then restarted, held shift while rebooting, changed template to a different template then changed it back...nothing is working.
    Does anyone have any other suggestions?

    Another thing I noticed; I have two "domain.sites2" files, one in Users >> Folder >> Application Support >> iWeb and the other is in a personal directory. They are both modified today two hours apart. I just opened and closed iWeb and the file in the application support directory shows a modification not the one in the personal directory.
    The first five or so times I opened iWeb I had to acknowledge the iWeb welcome screen before it wouldn't come back. It seems that my iWeb may be corrupted and have to be reinstalled?

  • Bridge File Names Missing

    Bridge (CS5) is missing many of the file names to many folders. Oddly, it's only some of them. And there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to why some would have names, while others don't.  Secondly, for those file folders without names, there's no way to rename the file folders.  When I right click to rename the folder, there's no option for rename.  I can create a new folder but can't name it.  Thirdly, the folders that do have names are encased in a black tag, which I don't like.
    I've tried the usal rememdies, i.e., turning my computer (I use Windows 7) down and changing from my custom bridge worksace to essentials to filmstrip.  Nothing helps.
    Any ideas on how this can be resolved?  Thanks in advance for any light you can shed.

    Purge Cache, see if that will help.
    You will find the option under Tools.
    There is a seperate forum just for the Bridge:

  • Why my files name switch from small letters to capital letters?

    Hi guys,
    I've a weird problem working with Illustrator CS6. It doesn't happen all the times but sometimes my files name switch from small letters to capital.
    For example the file "file.ai" becomes "FILE.AI"
    What could be the reason?

    I'm on a Windows 7 PC, and am having the same problem. Here is what I have discovered so far:
    The file name is changed to lowercase only when the following things happen:
    The file is opened outside of Illustrator using Windows Explorer ( or other file directory), however, the file must be in the results of a search. For instance, if I type in the search window the word "Dog", all files associated with that query will show in a list. Clicking on an .ai file in that list produces a lowercase file name in Illustrator.
    Selecting the same file in the Windows Explorer without a search ( manually navigating to that file) does NOT produce a lowercase file name, or opening the file directly using Illustrator's file system will NOT produce a lowercase file name.
    Ive tried this on several different machines in the office and have had the same results. Also, it appears that the length of the file name doesnt have any effect on the phenomenon. I have had this happen with single letter names as well as extra long ones.
    Try this out and see if you are getting the same results. I have tried this on several machines here at the office. All of them are Windows 7 ( 64bit) running CS5.5

  • After upgrading to ios 5.1.1 the icons for dlete, export, etc. under file names are missing. Please help.

    Hi,
       After upgrading to ios 5.1.1 the icons (delete, export, mail) below the file names in garage band are missing. Any ideas about this. Thanks.

    Oh, I've tried this as well: http://blog.scoopz.com/2010/09/11/iphone-camera-roll-thumbnails-corrupt-shows-bl ack-boxes-fix/, but it didn't make a difference; the videos I capture with the iphone are fine, it's the movies I uploaded myself that don't have a thumbnail.
