Level Based Hierarchy in OBIEE 11g

Hi,
When i am creating a simple level based heirarchy, i am getting error. My Logical table is DIM_EMPMAST and it is having two logical table
dim_empmast and
dim_dept_mast
I have created a logical heirarchy EMPLOYEES and dragged columns from DIM_EMPMAST as follows
Organization-->Emp Status --> Emp Type -->Dept.
I wanted to add one more level for Empno at the end after Dept. But when i adding that ,we are getting error in Analysis window.
[nQSError: 14070] Cannot find logical table source coverage for logical columns: [Deleted]. Please check more detailed level keys are mapped correctly.
Please advise me.
Mary

I checked in physical diagram, there is proper link defined between dept_mast and empmast. Actually i have added dim_dept_mast to the logical table of dim_empmast. Means logical table of dim_empmast is having two LTS, one is Dim_empmast and Dim_dept_mast. So should i create any other joins ?
Please help

• Parent Child Hierarchy in OBIEE 11G

Hi All,
I am working on the parent child hierarchy in OBIEE 11g Source ESSBASE ..followed some of the blogs.
http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/07/obiee-11gr1-enhancements-to-essbase-support/
I followed the following steps.
1.Imported the Cubes from ESSBASE.
2.Selected Accounts Hirearchy and changed the Hierarchy type to Value.
3.Dragged the subject area to BMM and to Presentation.
4.Now when i checked the Account Hierarchy from in the dashboard its not drilling down.
If i change the Hierarchy type to Unbalanced ...then the Account hiearchy is working fine.
Is there is any settings or process i have to follow..inorder to implement the Value based Hierarchy in OBIEE 11G source ESSBASE.
Thanks

So basically this means that if I build a parent child hierarchy on table A having the stucture like
--David (Manager)
-----James (Off1)
--------Bill (Off2)
and in my sales fact table for let's say today, I have only rows for Bill (Off2) because he is the only officer who did the sales today. Now when I will join my fact table to parent child hierarchy table A I will NOT get any data ? because there is no James who is the parent of Bill. So obiee need to have parent pulled off in the data (ANCESTOR) to be able to roll up the child.(IS_LEAF = 1)
I testes this and if my data only contains only rows for Bill (or I limit on ROLE = Off2) then it won't show the hierarchy. The query which OBIEE fires is to look for either ANCESTOR_KEY = NULL OR (DISTANCE = 1 AND ANCESTOR KEY IN (Bill). Therefore it doesn't I am wondering then what is the use of builiding the parent child hierarchy when we need to pull in all the ancestors (like in this case James for bill and David for james) because in real scenarios there can be cases wherein we would want to filter the data based on other dimensions to which the parent child hierarchy joins ?

• OBIEE 11g level based hierarchy

Hi everyone,
here is my problem in brief
I made a level based hierarchy for Products, and I need to show the product name beside the product code in the last level in the hierarchy, the steps i made to reach this is as follows:
1- making the name and the code columns keys in the last level (in business model).
2- making the name and the code as display columns (in presentation).
what happens when i do this it shows only one of them depends on the order in the "display column" area
My OBIEE version is 11.1.1.6
is it a bug or something ?
thanks a lot in advance.

guys I found a work around for this problem, I made a logical column and i used the this expression:
"ALM"."Dim Product"."LEVEL_16_NAME" || ' - ' || "ALM"."Dim Product"."LEVEL_16_CODE" , these two columns contains the desc. and the code for the product
and then I made this column as a key and in the display columns.
it works as i want but still considered a work around.
thanks anyway :)

• Help needed - OBIEE - Level Based Hierarchy - Expanding Month for one year affects all previous years

I am creating a level based hierarchy for the Date Dimension
year --> quarter --> month --> date (one path)
year .--> month --> date (the second path).
I create the pivot table using these dim hierarchies. But the problem is,
when I click on, say "Month" under year 2012, it expands everything above 2012 (such as 2010, 2011 etc).
I don't want to expand all the years, but only the one I clicked. Anyone knows what is the solution for that.
I am sorry that I cannot attach any screen shots to explain better.
I would really appreciate your help on this.
Thanks
JD

I am using OBIEE 11.1.1.7.0.
ok, I tried one hierarchy per dim table but didn't work too. When I created a logical column as Month + Year (e.g Jan 2014) and added to the hierarchy, its working fine. But that creates other issues on the
client side.
I guess, since the month is common to all the years its expanding when clicked. I also added month and year as "chronological key", but that didn't work either.
Please advice any solution if you know it.

• HANA level based Hierarchy is not displaying in AOLAP

Hi all,
I have created a level based Hierarchy in HANA which I have been able to display in Excel using a HANA MDX Provider connection:
However when I try to use the Hierarchy in Analysis for OLAP I am unable to see it, instead the dimensions are flat:
I have used an OLAP connection to HANA which otherwise appears to be working correctly.
We are on SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 1 Version: 14.1.1.1036. and HANA 1.00.69.01.386065.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Steve Willis.

Hi Stephen,
This should be possible. In my environment, I'm able to access both the flat and hierarchical presentations for a dimension, if I expand the dimension in the tree (see screenshot). I have noticed that the flat presentation is the default. However, if I expand and drag the appropriate hierarchy, I am seeing the hierarchy in the crosstab.
Are you able to expand the dimension and access the hierarchy?
Best regards,
Philip

• ALL level in level based hierarchy

I want to induce a level ' ALL' for a level based hierarchy. meaning ALL should display at toplevel as one value drilling ALL should come as follows
Country code ---> country name--> site name--- > site id
these are 4 columns here... inside a view ( joining 2 tables)
Thanks prasad

If you are using OWB, just use a constant operator to load your upper level with ALL. If you are using AWM, create a view on top of your dimension table with a mockup column that would just have ALL as its value.

• Issue with Skip Level Hierarchy in OBIEE 11g

Hi,
I have implemented Ragged and Skip Level Hierarchy as explained in the links below in OBIEE 11g RPD.
(checked the 'Ragged' and 'Skipped Levels' check boxes)
http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/07/obiee-11gr1-support-for-ragged-skip-level-value-based-hierarchies/
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/bi.1111/e10540/dimensions.htm#BABFBBFG
When the Presentation Hierarchy is dragged in the OBI Answers, the leaf level beyond the skip (null) levels is not shown in the report.
When any level finds intermediate null values, OBIEE is failing to show the existing value of the leaf level (Most Granular Level) or any values after Skipped Levels.
For example, following is the values in database for different levels of department hierarchy.
A -> B -> C -> Null -> Null -> F
The OBIEE Presentation Hierarchy can only drill down till C, not beyond that. (does not show the leaf level value 'F').
Could you please suggest whether I am missing any step?
Thanks.

Hi, My problem is that in my report it is showing me that levels as -- A -> B -> C -> Null -> Null -> F, however I want to show data as A -> B -> C -> F, i.e the null valus(columns) should be skipped. Please help.
Thanks and Regards,
Deepak

• Preaggregation across value based hierarchy dimension in 11g

Hi All,
I have created a cube with 6 dimensions in olap 11g. One of those six dimensions has only one hierarchy which is value based hierarchy. I have chosen level based aggregation as I know at what levels exactly users are going to query. When I was going through the dimensions to choose levels to preaggregate I noticed there were no options available for my value based hierarchy dimension ( I could see "all" option for the same case in 10g) then I tried to look for definitions of underlying objects just to make sure it will preaggregate data across my value based hierarchy dimension.
I found value set corresponding to my value based hierarchy dimension in <CUBE NAME>SOLVEAGGMAP object , which AWM uses to decide which dimension values to preaggregate but if I do rpr on that value set (rp r<CUBE NAME>SOLVE<DIMENSION NAME>_PVSET) it shows NA so my question is can I pre aggregate across value based hierarchy dimension in olap 11g?
Olap Version: 11.2.0.1
AWM version: 11.2.0.1
Thanks

Even if you know exactly which levels your users will query, percent based precompute (e.g. 30%) may still be faster in practice because queries are returned using 'sparse looping' instead of 'dense looping'. This was the single biggest performance advantage of 11g over 10g.
But if you still want to use level based precompute, then you should look at the XML template for the cube (as saved by AWM, for example). In it you should find something called PrecomputeCondition. This defines the set of members that are precomputed. Here is an example I just created using the GLOBAL schema
<PrecomputeCondition>
<![CDATA[
"TIME" LEVELS ("TIME"."MONTH", "TIME".CALENDAR_QUARTER, "TIME".CALENDAR_YEAR),
CHANNEL LEVELS (CHANNEL.TOTAL_CHANNEL, CHANNEL.CHANNEL),
CUSTOMER LEVELS (CUSTOMER.MARKET_SEGMENT, CUSTOMER.REGION, CUSTOMER.SHIP_TO),
PRODUCT LEVELS (PRODUCT.CLASS, PRODUCT.FAMILY, PRODUCT.ITEM)]]>
</PrecomputeCondition>The PrecomputeCondition is also visible through the USER_CUBES view.
SELECT PRECOMPUTE_CONDITION
FROM USER_CUBES
WHERE CUBE_NAME = 'MY_CUBE';You can hand modify this condition in the XML to specify an alternative 'non level based' precompute condition for any dimension. For example, if you define an attribute named 'SHOULD_PRECOMPUTE' on your PRODUCT dimension that is 1 for members to be precomputed and 0 for all others, then you can change the condition as follows.
<PrecomputeCondition>
<![CDATA[
"TIME" LEVELS ("TIME"."MONTH", "TIME".CALENDAR_QUARTER, "TIME".CALENDAR_YEAR),
CHANNEL LEVELS (CHANNEL.TOTAL_CHANNEL, CHANNEL.CHANNEL),
CUSTOMER LEVELS (CUSTOMER.MARKET_SEGMENT, CUSTOMER.REGION, CUSTOMER.SHIP_TO),
PRODUCT WHERE PRODUCT.SHOULD_PRECOMPUTE = 1]]>
</PrecomputeCondition>If you recreate the cube from the XML with this condition, then the PVSET valueset you discovered should contain all dimension members for which the attribute value is 1. This gives you complete control over what is precomputed. Note that AWM doesn't support this form of condition, so it won't show up if you go to the Precompute tab, but it is valid for the server. The PL/SQL below will modify the PrecomputeCondition (for the cube named MYCUBE) without going through AWM.

• Data level Security issue in obiee 11g

Hi,
We are trying to implement data level security, let me explain the issue
The requirement is, we have 7 schools and each school has one principle , there will be a Superdintent who has 3 schools under him. so now when each principle logs in to dashboard we have a prompt for school i.e Name of school in that prompt he should see only his school and even the data of that school only which are assigned to him, now when Superdintent logs in he should see all 3 schools in the prompt and data. I have gone through this link (http://www.rittmanmead.com/2012/03/obiee-11g-security-week-row-level-security/) but could not achieve.
We are able to achieve by writing SQL in BMM layer ( LTS Table) so where ever the table is used in dashboards the security is being applied and we are able to see what we want. We want to achieve this by application role, But when we are creating session variables and applying on Application Role its not working. We want to achieve this by using Application role because suppose in other dashboards when the table is not used or pulled in, it will not work. But if we do it using application role its applies to all dashboards and data is resticted. so that when principle or Superdintent logs in automatically its restricts the data.
Below is the SQL which we used in BMM LTS, its working fine. But when the same SQL is applied in Application Role it's not working.
SQL used in session variable -
select 'SCHOOL_CD1', school_cd1 from w_staff_d where empl_id ='VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.USER)'
and job_desc1 = 'Principal High School - KPI'
Any suggestions please ??
Thanks,
VRP

Hi,
I pasted the log view below by applying SET VARIABLE LOGLEVEL=2, DISABLE_CACHE_HIT=1;, ran this report by applying SQL in Session variable. Let me know if you want anything -
Thanks

• Issue with Presentation Hierarchy in obiee 11g

Hi Guru's
I am using a presentation hierarchy in obiee 11 g, but it is behaving weirdly when expanding the hierarchy
for example i have a hierarchy for languages when i expand one country in the hierarchy all the countries which has similar childs are getting expanded
for Example Parent A B C D
under A i have 1, 2,3,4, under B i have 5,6,7,8 under C i have 9, 10 ,11, 12 under D i have 1, 13, 14, 15
so when i expand A in answers D is also getting expanded as i have 1 as common value in both the parents.
can some please help me how to fix this, as the user does not like this expansion
Thanks in advance,

That is strange... I downloaded the files from the left hand side of this page:
[Sample Application site|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/obiee-samples-167534.html]
... the title states quiite clearly that the Sample Application (Build 825) applies to OBIEE release 11g.
Best regards

• Hierarchy in obiee 11g

Hi All,
we have a to create a hierarchy for the below type.
H1-->H2-->H3-->H5
-->H4
H1
|
H2
| |
H3 H4
|
H5
How to create this type of hierarchy..?
When we click on H1, H2 will display, when we click on H2, H3 and H4 should display, then clicking on H3 should disply H5.
Also how to restrict to either H3/H4 when we click on H2..???
Thanks.

Hi,
you have to create ragged hyrearchy

• Passing Job ID, Job instance from Agent to EJB-based action in OBIEE 11g?

We would like to ZIP compress Agent-scheduled report output, according to documentation using "Java Jobs" is an option but not recommended in 11g (only upgraded from 10g). Instead EJB-based java actions should be used.
Documentation has explanation of EJB-based Java action, however there's a problem when an Agent invokes the EJB-based action how can it pass out Job ID and Instance ID, etc so the custom action can refer to the related job information? When using "Java job" approach it offers public interfaces to do so. In EJB-based action there seems no information provided, the example in the documentation only demonstrates user to enter parameter values manually without any way to pass out parameter from the invoker (e.g. an Agent).
In this case, is there any public interface or any other way that an Agent can pass out Job ID related values when invoking an Java method? This seems also true for other actions like invoking web services, HTTP service, etc that no Job parameter can be passed out.
Thanks.
