  • New installation woes - SQLDeveloper on Oracle Linux x64 and Oracle 11g XE

Note that as an experienced Oracle developer in enterprise environments running MS Windows OS, I am familiar with SQLDeveloper for Windows. I don't have a lot of experience with Linux however. I don't find it intimidating, I just don't have a lot of accumulated knowledge.
I have recently been trying to set up a development environment on my Windows7 Professional x64 laptop.
    1. Installed Oracle VBox
    2. Installed Oracle Linux 5.2 inside the VBox (because Oracle 11g XE is not certified on 64 bit Windows, needed to go with a Linux OS)
    3. Installed Oracle DB 11.2 XE
    4. Installed JDK as instructed in the SQLDeveloper release notes for Linux x64
    5. Installed SQLDeveloper 3.1.07.42-1
No apparent issues with any of the installations.
Problem : I can run SQL Plus from the command line, but when I click on the icon for SQLDeveloper, nothing happens. No error messages, nothing else.
Question #1 : Unsure how to debug/troubleshoot this. Will read through the installation and release notes for SQLDeveloper, but any suggestions would be welcome.
Question #2 : Could this be due to an issue with the JDK installation? It appeared to be successful (no obvious issues) but I can't see anything in the Oracle Linux menu system that tells me the JDK was installed successfully. How can I confirm that the JDK installation was successful?

    >
The Linux x64 version of SQLDeveloper doesn't come bundled with JDK. There is a version of JDK recommended, with an advisory to install it before installing SQLDeveloper. This I did, with apparent success. I guess I'll have to install the JDK again and check my Java versions afterwards. Thanks.
    >
I don't know what JDK you downloaded since you didn't say. What version was it? Post the link.
I find it hard to believe that the JDK version recommended was 1.4.2 since that is an ANCIENT version of Java, you have to hunt to even find it for download and most importantly the sql developer main download page clearly announces what version of Java is needed.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
    >
    JDK Support
Oracle SQL Developer 3.1 is shipped with JDK1.6.0_11. However, you can connect to and use any JDK 1.6.0_11 or above. To use an existing JDK, download the zip files listed below "with JDK already installed."
    >
As you can see you need JDK 1.6.0_11 or above.
If the version you say was recommended was actually 1.4.2 then that is an error; post the details so the developers can get that error fixed.
I don't know what is on your system and can only go by the information you provide
    >
    4. Installed JDK as instructed in the SQLDeveloper release notes for Linux x64
    java version "1.4.2"
    >
You either downloaded version 1.4.2, which seems unlikely, or your Linux included 1.4.2 and it is being used when you try to launch sql developer.
Perhaps your system now has multiple versions of Java on it but the version being used by sql developer is the wrong one. If so that is the issue you need to resolve.

  • I am installing Netweaver on Linux x64 but I dont it. Can you help me?

    Hello.
I try install Netweaver WAS on Linux x64 according :
    https://www.sdn.sap.com:443/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/webcontent/uuid/603afa05-d2a4-2a10-a0bf-c86743f37368 [original link is broken]
later when I have finished to download 7 packages and cat command apply, try mount iso file on linus file system . I burn a DVD too , but do not access to them. So what can I do bad ?
    Thank a lot
    Regards

Hmm ..with so many large files SAP should at least provide the MD5SUM of each file so they can be checked once downloaded to confirm they are not corrupt before creating the image file!
When you are mounting the ISO image what command are you using ? Should be something like:
    mount -t iso9660 iso.image /media/cdrom -o loop
If you are still having problems email the address at the bottom of the page you posted and ask them for the md5sum of each file.
    Good luck.

    Nelis

  • ODBC instant client driver rpm for Linux X64

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me where can I find odbc instant client driver rpm for Linux X64 edition.
I can only see for Linux x32 not for X64.

I don't understand your step 7 (the first step 7, actually).
What is that unixODBC-2.2.14-linux-x86-32.tar.gz, where did it come from, and why are you doing all that?
unixODBC should be installed after step 5.
I guess that that is the cause of your problem.
isql is not linked against readline at all on my RHEL 5 system.
Do you notice any improvement after removing the files from that tar.bz file?
    Yours,
    Laurenz Albe

  • DBMS_XDB.SETLISTENERLOCALACCESS (missing on Linux)

I've installed Oracle Express on Linux with a GUI and need to enable remote clients

This version does not have the stored procedure
    dbms_xdb.setListenerLocalAccess
It does exist on the windows version.
Is there a work around for this problem using the command line?

  • The DbEnv memery missing in win7 x64(may be a berkeley'Env bug in x64)

I am a newer programer in Berkeley, this is my first use it.
I create a BDB for png image, about 40gb, the key is used ACE_UINT64, the value is ACE_Message_Block.
I used LoadRunner create 100 user to get the image by my program.
It is correctly in win7 32bit, but it is lost memory in 64bit.
I open the Env with DB_Private | DB_init_pool | DB_thread, and set the cachesize to 1gb, also the DBt of value is set_flags(DB_DBT_MALLOC), also use free(DBt.getdata()).
My server thread's commit memory in taskmgr.exe is keep at 1gb, but the memory in used of system increase never stop, at last all of memey has been used, and my server thread stop at berkeleydb.
I find my used memory is 8gb, my system+loadruner+vs2008 at most 1.5gb, and my server thread keep in 1gb, what the other memory who used?
So I shut down the server thread, all memory came back.
So I change Berkeley DB Storage to Read my image.png direct in file system, the memory is correctly.
So must some wrong in my code to used berkeleydb, must in DBt’ alloc,so how can i free the memory in x64?
So I need helper, what’s the wrong with my DBEnv?How can I free the DBt in 64 bit?

I encounter the same problem, although I run Berkeley DB (Ver 6.0.20, C#) under .NET Framework and Windows server 2008(x64). Any BDB application of win32 runs well but will encounter trouble under platform of x64 when compile BDB to x64, even though the DLL compiled and linked with win32. The bug is that Berkeley DB take amount of memory as the size of databases and regardless of cacheSize. My estimation is that all memory for BDB malloced and NOT freed.

  • Just upgraded GC to 10.2.0.4 on Linux x64

We just upgraded our OMS GC from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4 and I have a few questions.
Right now, we only manage Linux and Solaris hosts (about 20 total right now.) The big reason we upgraded to 10.2.0.4 is so we could monitor our SQL Servers that we have here (about 6).
    Couple quick questions.
If I want to do a 'fresh agent install', with 'default from management server location' selected, when i go to the HOSTS section, I only have the option to select 'Linux' as my platform (because this is a Linux host is my guess).
Now, if I select 'Another Location' under Source software, then under hosts I can select different platforms.
My question is, I am trying to figure out what I need to download and where to locate it on the local system, so I can have options to install agents on Linux, Solaris and Windows.
Can someone point me in the right direction here? I feel like I need to download a piece of software, but I am not sure.
    As a FYI,
    Under, $OMS_HOME/sysman/agent_download
    I have a few directories:
    10.2.0.1.0
    10.2.0.3.0
    10.2.0.4.0
    Appreciate the help.

Thank you for your follow up. I finally figured it out last night when I was tinkering around.
    Much appreciated for your help.

  • JColorChooser hangs event thread on Linux x64

I am finding that repeatedly displaying a JColorChooser, picking a color, and clicking "OK" will hang the event thread in 64-bit Ubuntu 9.04 (Java 6 Update 13). Usually it takes between 2 to 20 launches of the JColorChooser before the color chooser will not launch and the UI is frozen. I cannot reproduce this using 32-bit Windows XP. I can even use the Sun Java Tutorial code and the problem occurs every time (Tutorial Link for a Color Editor in a JTable: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/examples/components/TableDialogEditDemoProject/src/components/ColorEditor.java).
Has anyone else seen this problem and found a workaround of any kind? Or has anyone tested this on 64-bit linux with Java 6 without problems? Thanks much to all for any help.

Here is a testbed that will produce the problem for me.
    * 1) Run the testbed.
    * 2) Click the button.
    * 3) Pick a new color swatch.
    * 4) Click OK.
    * 5) Repeat steps 2-4 until the color chooser does not launch.
    * (This was between 1 and 25 times for me)

  • 11g on linux x64 doesnt install lib32 libraries

noob question...I have installed 11.2.0.1 on CentOS 5.3 (RHEL 5) x64 and have noticed there is no $ORACLE_HOME\lib32 directory. Is this normal? My application requires the 32bit client library (libclntsh.so), so how do i go about getting this installed?
    thanks.

well thats what i did...installed the x86 client to a new location and manually copied the 32bit libclntsh.so from that client into the $ORACLE_HOME/lib32 directory of the server. My app is happy now.

  • Patch from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4 on Linux x64

    Hi everybody,
I installed Grid Control under CentOS 5.1 without any problem.
I'm installing the patch 3731593, following the instructions I found.
I installed it on OMS and the Agent without any error, but when I install it on DB
an error occured during the installation when it try to compile ins_net_client.mk
    makefile.
I take a look at the log file and I found this:

Do you have any suggestion to find the solution?
Thanks in advance for any help,

    I'm going crazy.Please don't do that ... not a pretty picture ...
The error you describe is often a result of glibc incompatibility. Oracle 10gR2 10.2.0.2 requires a specific release of GLIBC and the newer versions of Linux have glibc versions that are too new and are incompatible.
Check your package list versions against http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15660/pre_install.htm#sthref111
