Lightroom 3.3. 64 bit fails to start

I have a very curious issue. LR 3.3 doesn't want to start in 64 bit mode when logged in as my normal user.
However, 32 bit mode opens ok, and also when opening logged in as another user, 64 bit and 32 bit versions start.
So, It has probably got to do with my user profile.
I removed LR3, also the User Library/App support/Adobe/Lightroom directory and the main library Lightroom directory.
I reinstalled and same issue.
I thought it had something to do with the Canon Utilities, as this is the last change (installing Canon Apps) after which LR3 failed on me. But as the Canon Apps are also available for the other user, that doesn't seem so obvious anymore.
Anyone have any idea on what it might be? And how I might be able to analyze the issue?
Kind regards,
Roeland
Update: I run Mac OS X 10.6.5 (both 32 bit and 64 bit tested)

Thanks to the help I got from the Apples discussion forum, I got the issue solved.
Finally, it had to do with a corrupt 3rd party plugin directory (which you decide yourself where that resides), probably due to some backup / synchronizing software I use to backup this kind of stuff.
The solution to this was starting in 32 bit mode (which still worked) removing all 3rd party plugins, restart in 64 bit mode, redownloading all plugins, and adding them again in the plugin manager.

BTW, I learned a lot about how Apple organizes their files. Also that removing an app from the Applications folder doesn't mean it is really gone, as opposed to what Apple tells you. A lot of garbage is left behind, even in startup and application support folders.

    Hi 12345Kiran,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Notebook and looping repair screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a system restore.
I would be happy to assist if needed as there are many models of HP I would need the model number. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

  • Lightroom 4.2 64-bit does not start. How is 0xc000007b error resolved?

System is Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 build 6701, Intel Core 5-750, 8GB RAM.
Installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 then Premier Elements 11 64-bit then Lightroom 4.2 64-bit. Photoshop Elements, Organizer, Premier run just fine. Lightroom 4.2 refuses to start, stating The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application. Ran Raxco Perfect Registry to eliminate registry errors. Performed full scans w/Notron Internet Security, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Removed any/all threats. Lr continues to repeat 0xc000007b issue. I'm running out of options. I want to run Lr 64-bit, not 32-bit. Any ideas please?

This has nothing to do with registry errors or any of that. It's simply a generic crash. As to what's the specific cause, noone can tell. Usually this is a missing system DLL or a flakey driver. Could of course also be a permissions issue where LR fails to load some components due to insufficient user privileges or your little tools blocking stuff. Norton is known to bury itself so deep in the system, it does more damge than good at times. Verify your device manager, turn off your security stuff, run as admin. And pick out the actual crash info from your system event viewer.

  • Lightroom 3.2-64 Bit. will not start -It said-opening Catalog:DSC0024.then shuts down

I have downloaded Lightroom 3.2-64 Bit . When i start the software it gives me the message" Lightroom-opening Catalog:DSC0024.JPG.Ircat"
Then a window opens and said " Adobe Photoshop lightroom 64-bit has stoped working. A problem caused this program to stoped working correctely. Windows will close the program and notifiy
you if a solution is available"
    I have a Windows 7 - 64bit
Any help getting Lightroom started would be appreciated.

Seems to be the following "classic" LR 3.x problem: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom_3_4_1_64_bit_doesnt_work
In short: You tried to create a new catalog with the name of an existing JPEG file ("DSC0024.JPG"). Perhaps you wantet to open/import that file and accidentally used the wrong command (create new catalog). Solution: 1) Rename the file. 2) Start LR, let it create the catalog in a folder named as the original file, 3) close LR, 4) delete the newly created folder containing the new catalog, 5) Start LR again - it will probably ask you for your catalog (select the catalog you are really working with). 6) Re-rename your JPEG file again.
Edit: P.S: LR 3.2 is a rather old version. The latest update for 3.x is 3.6 (free of charge), download it here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=113&platform=Windows (Note: This bug is not fixed in LR 3.6. It is fixed in LR 4).

  • Windows Vista 32-bit failing to start after successful recovery.

Hi all, my apologies if this has already been covered in another post, I did check but I'm new here so could've overlooked it.
I have a HP Pavilion a6442a running Windows Vista 32-bit. A couple of weeks ago it froze up, forcing me to maually shut it down, and now it will not restart. It gets so far, then goes straight to startup repair, which never seems to find any problems. I've tried system restore (to several different restore points), ran diagnostic tests, ran memory and hd tests, and tried starting up in every mode I could: no issues found anywhere and I still had the same problem. Finally I backed up my files and performed a full system recovery. It said that it completed successfully, I restarted to complete the Windows installation, it gets as far as "please wait a moment while Windows starts for the first time....", freezes there, then restarts and goes straight back to the startup repair screen.
I'm at a loss, I've done everything I can think of. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
Have you added any hardware to the stock configuration (other than replace the hard drive or add memory)?
Did you only have the mouse, keyboard and monitor plugged in when you ran the recovery procedure?
If yes, to question 1, remove any hardware you installed that did not come with the PC, and try recovering again.
If the PC successfully recovers, shut down and reinstall your aftermarket hardware.
If no, to question 2, disconnect anything other than the mouse, keyboard and monitor and try recovering again.
If you continue to be confounded, and you can read all 25 characters of the Vista product key on your PC's case, then you can make your own Vista installation media.
This will be just a plain Vista installation and no software other than the operating system will be included.
You can install any drivers and available software from your PC's support and driver page.
Link to info below...click on the blue Windows Reinstallation Guide PDF link and begin reading the Vista info which starts on page 296.

Delete your preview cache. It is a folder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA, it is in the same folder as your Lightroom catalog. Do not delete anything else. Do not delete the LR catalog.

I am unable to download iTunes on my second Windows 8 computer (64 bit). I got it fine on my first one and have used it quite a bit. After downloading the program and installing it on the second computer, I keep getting this error message: "Apple Mobile Device Failed to Start." This happens when when my IPhone 5c is connected via Wi-Fi and I have clicked on "Trust This Computer." (I have tried to install several times-- It gets hung up when it reaches"Starting Services.")

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • Dell 64 bit pc . Tried updating to latest version.  Error message says Apple mobile device service failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services.  What does that mean?

I have a dell 64 bit pc and had an older version of ITunes installed.  When I tried to install the 12--- version, the install stopped with the message, "Apple Mobile Device Services failed to start, verify that you have sufficient privileges to start systems services".   I have no clue what that means.  can anyone help.  ????

    Hi doywks,
The Apple Mobile Device is a component of iTunes that communicates between your computer and your iPhone or iOS device.  The error message you are seeing "verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services" has to do with the Windows operating system.  It's possible that you are not logged in as the administrator for your Windows PC.  Or, you may have antivirus software stopping the Apple Mobile Device from running.
If you are having issues updating iTunes on your PC, follow the steps in the article below.

  • Lightroom 2.5 fails to start

    Hi,
I cannot get Lightroom 2.5 to start anymore. I was running 2.4 and upgraded to 2.5. After the upgrade Lightroom was running fine for some time. All of a sudden it failed to start up however. I tried deleting the Lightroom Preferences file but this does not help. I then uninstalled Lightroom completely, reinstalled Lightroom 2.5. Then it started up. When I tried to import some new photos however I ran into this issue: Method not found: View attribute
I then had to kill Lightroom using the task manager and now Lightroom again fails to start up completely..
I don't see any messages in the Windows event log.
    I run Windows Vista.
    Any ideas?
    regards

I have now downgraded to 2.4 (uninstall 2.5, install 2.4) and everything seems to be fine again. I think I will leave Lightroom 2.5 for what it is..

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
