Line Break on Textarea using javascript

I have a data loading page into a table with a single column of varchar(4000). When the user pastes into the textarea, there are multiple line breaks - but some of the lines are > 4000 and end up being truncated during the load process. What I would like to do is in javascript: 1) find the lines that are longer than 4000 and insert a \n so that two (or more) rows will be loaded rather than truncated.
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=80892:1 user: demo pw: demo workspace: SVK

I was trying to map the line break in a embedded field inside a paragraph. So I guess that is the reason why is not working.
To make it clear: I'm triggering the paragraphs through a MLT with the ParagraphAssembly rule and a paragraph list.
Some of these paragraph need to put some data extracted from the XML input just in the middle of the text.
I have tried the html tags line break <br/> and paragraph <p>, in the middle of the text and also in the field, but is not working, the tags are being shown instead of the line break.
Any ideas?

    I need  t-sql to show output as..
    RecordID   ID    FullDisplay
       1       1     GeneratedBy  From -
    [email protected]  < CHAR(13) - Need Line Break here so that it goes to 2nd line>

    [email protected]
    Display field will have 3 values - "GeneratedBy" , "ReceivedBy"  or Null
    AddresType field will have  3 values - "From" , "To" and Null.
    In the above example, Those 7 records belongs to ID=1.
    Whenever RecordID is same I want to show everything in one line with line breaks in between.
    In the above example RecordID=1 has 3 rows, display it as 1 row. But Whenever 'ReceivedBy' is there for same recordID put a line break before "ReceivedBy"

  • Inserting line break within label

    Hey guys,
    i've run into a small problem with the coding. right now im
    creating image viewer within a horizontal list. at first, i had
    each object coded inside the horizontal list but then i decided to
    place everything in an xml file to make changes easier. since i've
    switched, i have not been able to figure out how to insert a line
    break for each label. this is what the code looked like when i was
    naming each object.
    <mx:HorizontalList id="PosterSelect" height="352"
    columnCount="3" columnWidth="200" width="580"
    rollOverColor="#ff3344" themeColor="#DC240B"
    itemClick="itemClicked(event)">
    <mx:dataProvider>
    <mx:Array>
    <mx:Object id="object1" label="March 12, 2008&
    #13;Chicago, IL" data="events"/>
    <mx:Object id="object2" label="March 12, 2008&
    #13;Chicago, IL" data="events"/>
    <mx:Object label="March 12, 2008& #13;Chicago, IL"

    icon="{event5}" data="events"/>
    </mx:Array>
    </mx:dataProvider>
    </mx:HorizontalList>
    within the label property, i used the & #13; character to
    insert a line break. now im using an item renderer to call the
    information from my xml file. the problem is... i cannot figure out
    how to insert a line break like i did previously. from what i
    understand... the text in the label field of the xml file is
    already parsed when it comes into flex. so using the & #13; or
    \n characters will not work. i also tried hitting enter to insert a
    new line in the xml file but that did not work either. does anyone
    know how i could work around this?? below is my current code and

  • Read Only TextAreas with Carriage Return, Line Breaks and Word Wrapping

    Hi all,
    I know there are a few posts around this subject but I cannot find the answer to the exact problem I have.
    I have a page that has a 'TextArea with Character Counter' (4000 Chars) that is conditionally read only based on the users credentials (using the 'Read Only' attributes of the TextArea item).
    When the field is editable (not Read Only) everything works fine but when I make the field Read Only I start to have problems:
    The first problem is that the Carriage Return and Line Breaks are ignored and the text becomes one continuos block. I have managed to fix this by adding pre and post element text of pre and /pre tags. This has made the Carriage Return and Line Breaks word nicely and dispaly correctly.
    However, it has introduced a second problem. Long lines, with no Carriage Returns or Line Breaks, now extend to the far right of the page with no word wrapping, making my page potentially 4000+ characters wide.
    How can I get the field to be display only, with recognised Carriage Returns and Line Breaks, and Word Wrapping inside a fixed width of, say, 150 characters?
    Many thanks,
    Martin

    Hi,
    Just a cut and paste of yours with the field name changed:
    htp.p('<script>');
    htp.p('$x("P3_COMMENTS").readonly=true;');
    htp.p('</script>');I also have the following in the page HTML Header, could they be conflicting?
    <script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript">
    function setReleaseToProd(wpTypeCode){
       //setReleaseToProd($v(this))
      var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$v('pFlowId'),'APPLICATION_PROCESS=set_release_to_prod',0);
      get.addParam('x01',wpTypeCode);
      gReturn = get.get();
      if(gReturn) {
         $s('P3_RELEASE_TO_PROD',gReturn);
      get = null;
    </script>I am a long way from knowing much about Javascript (this page code was written by someone else) so all help is much appreciated.

  • Acrobat v9 JavaScript Alert Box - any way to add space or line break after each array item?

    I have a Document level Javascript used to identify blank required fields and is triggered on document actions, Print and Save. The script identifies the blank required fields, counts them, and outputs to an Alert box indicating the number of required fields blank and lists the fields by tooltip name. The script identifies the required fields by an asterisk at the end of each tool tip.
    My question is there any way to add a space or a line break after the comma for each listed item?
    Here is an image of the output where the listed items are all run together.
    Here is the code:
    function validateFields()
    //a counter for the number of empty fields
    var flg = 0
    // count all the form fields
    var n = this.numFields
    //create an array to contain the names of required fields
    //if they are determined to be empty
    var fArr = new Array();
    //loop through all fields and check for those that are required
    // all fields that have a '*' in their tool tip are required
    for(var i = 0;i<n;i++){
    var fn = this.getNthFieldName(i);
    var f = this.getField(fn);
    //tool tip is the fields\'s 'userName' property;
    var tt = f.userName
    //test for the '*';
    if(tt.indexOf('*')!=-1 && f.value == f.defaultValue){
    //increment the counter of empty fields;
    flg++;
    //add the fields userName (tool tip) to the list of empty field names;
    fArr[fArr.length] = tt;
    //now display a message if there are empty fields
    if(flg>0){
    app.alert('There are '+flg+' fields that require a value\n\n'+ fArr,3)
    else{
    this.print();

    Thank you! The alert box array items now have a line break, image below.  You know you have made my day and possibly several weeks as now I have more understanding about how to apply everything I have been reading in the Acrobat JavaScript guide and of course as soon as you pointed out using a "join", that triggered some old-days of working with Access and SQL queries.
    I will work on the required attribute to see how I might reference it.  I am laughing at myself now - good luck to me in figuring it out as I was very stick-in-the-mud regarding the line break issue.
    Thanks again and here is the result of the updated code:

  • Development on SharePoint on-line using JavaScript in an Script Editor

    Hi,
    I’m doing a SharePoint development on SharePoint on-line using JavaScript in a Script Editor. I've changed the Calendar NewForm.aspx  in SharePoint designer and I should check the Start Date and End date and I should change the procedure of Save button.
    The problem is I cannot have the component ID’s. I even tried to create new components and rebuild the form but my script sometimes working and sometimes not working.
    I've also tried SharePoint Apps in Visual Studio 2013 and Napa but I have problems  accessing SP lists.
    Could you please advise me?

    Hi Sachin,
    Before I read you reply, I had a "Eureka" moment that I was about to write about.  I got my Javascipt to read my the value that was set in the Filterdropdown!  However, you somewhat burst my balloon with the revelation about how re-sizing
    window changes their size (i.e., Large to Medium, etc)?  It is true, my function does not work when I click the "restore down" icon on the upper right corner of my window, then it works again when I maximize the window.  That sucks : (
         Oh, well.  Thanks just the same!
    For what it is worth, here is the script I wrote:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
    <html>
    <head>
        <script language="javascript">
            //This function reads the digest using /contextinfo.

        </script>
    </head>
    <body>
    What filter am I set to?  Click the Button snd I will tell you... <input type="button" value="Button" onclick="ShowAlert()";/>

  • Selecting Hebrew text uses incorrect line breaks

    On both an iPhone and an Android device running the latest version of Adobe Reader (10.4), as well as in Adobe Reader XI on a Win7 laptop, using the text selection tool to select Hebrew text is inaccurate. I have tried this with multiple documents prepared by different PDF tools.
    Has anyone else foudn a way to make text selection work correctly with Hebrew PDF files?

  • Ignore Line break in find text using grep

    Hi everyone!
    I need to find the text in document using grep.
    find text for :
    Xereptatiuria que alique volo eium qui dolupid ut
    voluptatiam earum saestorepel iuscit im quas et modisimodit.
    The above sentence cannot having line breaks. But document having multiple line breaks.
    so, please to give a tip to find the text using grep.
    I am not excepting this type of result by following.
    Xereptatiuriaque\n alique volo\neium qui dolupid ut\r voluptatiam earum\n saestorepel iuscit im quas et\n modisimodit.  ------------this is not.
    Any another way to find (i.e)., ignore the line break
    simply like this,
    (?s:Xereptatiuria que alique volo eium qui dolupid ut
    voluptatiam earum saestorepel iuscit im quas et modisimodit.)      --------- the line break wherever it is found,ignore line break in single command.
    Thanks by,
    John Peter.

    johnp45247251,
    what do you really want to do?
    Like pkahrel in your other thread Find Grep And Ignore the line break said:
    pkahrel schrieb:
    You're a moving target: you change your question in each post. Do yourself a favour and go and read up on GREP.
    johnp45247251, one question:
    Could it be possible, that you doesn't understand correctly, how Grep really works?
    <edit by pixxxel schubser>
    Furthermore your example text is different to your screenshot. Your text is:
    »Xereptatiuriaque\n alique volo\neium qui dolupid ut\r voluptatiam earum\n saestorepel iuscit im quas et\n modisimodit.«
    And your screenshot shows:
    »Xereptatiuriaque\n alique volo\n eium qui dolupid ut \rvoluptatiam earum\n saestorepel iuscit im quas et\n modisimodit.«
    Normally the text should look like this:
    »Xereptatiuriaque\nalique volo\neium qui dolupid ut\rvoluptatiam earum\nsaestorepel iuscit im quas et\nmodisimodit.«
    Please explain what do you really want to do and exactly if additional spaces are exists or not!
    Could it be:
    you have a text with paragraphs and with many line breaks in that paragraph and there are no spaces exists before or after your line breaks. And is your destination to remove all the line breaks from your text?
    </edit by pixxxel schubser>
    Then the way is not to find the text completly and to ignore the line breaks – the way is to find the line breaks and replace with a space, e.g. like that:
    find:
    \n
    replace with:
    \s
    (change all)
    Regards

  • Line breaks in emails when using Gmail

    *The problem arises because the iPhone uses "Plain Text" to send emails.*
    *When using gmail, gmail automatically inserts line breaks in "Plain Text" emails every 78 characters, the reason why you see the breaks when unexpected.*
    *See: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/gmail/thread?id=4d1cecc1aab102ef&hl=en*
    *To fix this problem:*
    *1. Apple can allow us to send mail with Rich Text support from iOS devices OR*
    *2. Google has to change the line breaks setting so that Plain text flows (and isn't broken) <-- this option is probably more realistic*
    *I have tried from a hotmail account, sending email as plain text doesn't have line breaks imposed like the gmail account, but rather "flows".*
    *If you want gmail to add a setting to disable line breaks in plain text emails:*
    *Suggest the feature here:*

    *- - - Composing and delivery*
    *- - - - Sending options*
    *-For comments: Configure or disable plain text wrap length.*

    I am having the same problem with an IMAP/SMTP account. It was a GMail account, I switched it to using the GMail auto setup and haven't had any issues.
    But under the standard IMAP/SMTP setting almost 1/3 of all messages were showing no content.
    Though I don't recall exactly - I think most of them were sent while I was on 3G, and it otherwise works fine on WiFi.

  • How can you enter a line-break when using a Bluetooth Keyboard or onscreen Keyboard?

    In Pages &amp; Keynote the only way to force a line break I have found is to put your finger at the end of a line until the select/insert option appears and then selecting insert, then select line break.
    This is frustratingly slow when typing a presentation or document so I bought a Logitech Ultrathin Bluetooth keyboard assuming that would have the Shift+Enter shortcut to make a line break. It doesn't, nor can I find any key combination that does, it's always a new paragraph, or nothing happens.
    I have an Ipad3,  IOS 6.1.3. I've spoken to Logitech support - they said talk to Apple iOS support, I spoke with a chap at IOS support who didn't know what a line break was, didn't know shift+enter on a PC made a line break so didn't understand my question and ended the call.
    Anyone know how to create the shortcut as an alternative to the onscreen slow way?

  • Losing carriage returns in textarea / using plpdf to generate report

    Hello,
    I'm using Apex 3.1.1 and Oracle 10g database. I would appreciate any suggestions on how I can preserve carriage returns in a textarea when sending the text to a package that generates a report. Please see example of current problem (below code). I'm using an onkeypress function to check for keycode = 13 when the Enter key is pressed -- that is working. I also created an alert to show the url value -- I can see the text on multiple lines, so that appears to be working as well. The textarea value parameter in the package is defined as varchar2. Per the support folks at plpdf.com, chr(13) indicates an explicit line break, and they told me to check my text. I don't know what I'm missing. Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

    Hello Michael,
    Thank you for your response. After doing some researching and experimenting, here's what I have found so far.
    First, using an onkeypress function to alert the keycode, a chr(13) is being returned when I press the Enter key in the textarea.
      function check_Enter(e)
        var keynum;
        var textval = $x('P212_INCORRECT').value;
        if(document.all)
          keynum = e.keyCode
        else
          keynum = e.which
        alert(keynum);
      }Next, when I access the value of the textarea via javascript with $x('P212_INCORRECT').value, the chr(13) is automatically converted to the newline character (\n). In an attempt to replace the \n with a \r so plpdf will recognize the carriage return, I added a javascript replace function before sending the text to the package, and it does not work.
      function build_params()
        var lparms;
        lparms = '';
        lparms = lparms + '&p_incorrect=' + $x('P212_INCORRECT').value;
        lparms = lparms + '&p_correct=' + $x('P212_CORRECT').value;
        alert(lparms.split(/\n/g).length - 1);  // confirm that a newline character is found
        lparms = lparms.replace( new RegExp( "\n", "g" ), "\r");  // replace newline character with carriage return
        return lparms;
      }When I tried to replace the newline character (\n) with chr(13), the chr(13) is printed out like it is text instead of a special character. In order to test that I have the correct syntax for the replace function in javascript, I tried replacing \n with '...', and then in the package that generates the PDF, I replaced the '...' with chr(13). That works!
    In response to your comment about the PLPDF procedure for multi line section, I am using: plpdf.PrintMultiLineCell(180, 6, l_incorrect, '0', 0). As a newbie to javascript, I am not sure why replacing \n with \r is not working. Can you advise how to use a chr(13) in the javascript replace function and have it recognized as a special character and not text? I don't know how to view special characters in the textarea other than checking for them with javascript.
    Thanks, Lisa

  • Line breaks in text editor

    Hi,
    I am facing the problem that when I read the content of the
    texteditor, store it in a javascript variable, and then write it
    again into the editor area, all line breaks (not html line breaks,
    just the line breaks for the code structure) are gone.
    For Example if the content of the Editor is the following:
    Test line 1
    Test line 5
    If I know call my function the value of the texteditor will
    be somethign like: "Test line1 Test line 5"
    I tried finding the linebreaks and replacing them (either \n,
    \r or \n\r) but had no success in doing that.
    My code of the function:
    var theDom=dw.getDocumentDOM();
    var temp = theDom.documentElement.outerHTML;
    theDom.documentElement.outerHTML="";
    theDom.documentElement.outerHTML=temp;
    So I assume Javascript and dw are using different formats,
    but I cant find much information about whats being used.
    Any help appreicated!
    Best,
    David

    Hi Brent,
    Use CHR(10) in text editor for a new line. for example(  'SAP' & CHR(10) & 'Visual' & CHR(10) & 'Composer') will display like,
    SAP
    Visual
    Composer
    Hope it helps....

  • How do I use Javascript to populate a text field based on a selection from a drop down box?

    Greetings,
    I have virtually no experience with JavaScript and I am trying to figure out how to add some basic automation features to an Adobe form.  I have a drop down box called "Hospital_Name" that will contain approximately 7 possible selections.  When the user makes a selection, I would like to have the text field (called "Hospital_Address") below the drop down box populate with the corresponding address for the selection.  I have the "Hospital_Address" text field configured for multiple lines and would like the address to have a line break between the street address and the city/state/zip.
    For example, if the user selected "Hospital 1", the text field would display:
    123 Main St
    Anytown, CA 12345
    Any help or examples you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    You have the element names within the object within brackets.
    Make sure your brackets are properly placed and matched.
    // Place all pre-population data into a single data structure
    var Location = {
    "--Hospital--":{ line1: " ", line2: " " },
    "Bellevue Medical Center":{ line1: "2500 BMC Drive", line2: "Bellevue, NE 68123" },
    "CHI Bergan Mercy":{ line1: "7500 Mercy Road", line2: "Omaha, NE 68124" },
    "CHI Immanuel":{ line1: "6901 N. 72nd Street", line2: "Omaha, NE 68122" },
    "CHI Lakeside":{ line1: "16901 Lakeside Hills Court", line2: "Omaha, NE 68130" },
    "CHI Midlands":{ line1: "11111 S. 84th Street", line2: "Papillion, NE 68046" },
    "Creighton University Medical Center":{ line1: "601 N. 30th Street", line2: "Omaha, NE 68131" },
    "Nebraska Medical Center":{ line1: "4400 Emile Drive", line2: "Omaha, NE 68105" }
    // some debugging code to see location names;
    console.show();console.clear():
    for(I in Location) {
    console.println(I);
    // end debugging code;
    function SetFieldValues(Hospital_Name) {
        this.getField("AddLine1").value = Location[Hospital_Name].line1;
        this.getField("AddLine2").value = Location[Hospital_Name].line2;
    This is not a beginners task but requires a fair amount of knowledge about the structure of objects, defining strings, and structure of arrays.
    Are you sure you have all the field names correctly spelled and capitalized?
    Do you get any error in the JavaScript console?
    Just trying the line that defines the "Location", I get the following error:
    SyntaxError: invalid property id
    1:Console:Exec
    undefined
    All the form field in a PDF are processed by using JavaScript and any error in any script will stop JavaScript processing.
    It might help to have a link to the problem form.
    Make sure your brackets are properly placed and matched.
