Linking intranet Oracle tables to internet

Hi,
we do have an applicaiton built on Oracle APEX which our users can access through intranet... we have approx 300 users (with around 50 logins per day) and applicaiton uses very large data tables...
when I explored possibility to replicate the same on internet (though 3rd party)... seems like the cost is going to be too high due to the large number of data set...
one of the possibility is that we share just critical information through internet and the rest our users can access via intranet... will it be possible to sink both the applicaitons overnight via some automated way... I am looking for a way (somehow) to update internet tables (overnight) with intranet tables to ensure we provide similar information to our users...
Thanks

Why not just setup a firewall to have users go through to app?? Maybe even an sso setup?
Thank you,

  • Linking and de-linking of Oracle tables

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to link and de-link Oracle database from MS Access please? (programmatically)
I have made a form in MS access. For example. say there is a button when user click on in, it will insert the data from access into Oracle table.
In a simple way, the button just for transfer data from table 'A' (in Access) or records into table 'B' (in Oracle).
Therefore, how do you connect a table in Oracle from ms access programmatically. It means in vb code and how do you de-link it so it will reduce the lag time.
At the moment, I can connect link tables from Oracle into ms Acces using the link tables and setup the ODBC connection. However, I want to use this setup the connection & calling the table with codes in ms access (vb).
For Example: (however, this code doesnt work but maybe I am getting there)
So if someone can help me, it would be great.
    Dim strCon
    strCon = "Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle}; " & _
    "CONNECTSTRING=(DESCRIPTION=" & _
    "(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)" & _
    "(HOST=MYCOMP)(PORT=9876))" & _
    "(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=testing))); uid=user;pwd=password;"
    Dim oCon As Database
    Set oCon = WSCript.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    Dim oRs As Recordset
    Set oRs = WSCript.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
    oCon.OpenRecordset strCon
    Set oRs = oCon.Execute("SELECT * FROM employee")
    cheers

I think I am in the right forum, the only thing is that I don't know in which category that I belong to. Is there a topic about access & Oracle in this forum?

  • MS Access ODBC link to Oracle tables

I have a MS Access application that is linked via ODBC to tables in an Oracle db. When i try to open some tables in MS Access, it says the ODBC link has failed and I cannot view the data. On other tables this is not so. All the tables were linked via the same ODBC. Any ideas why some of these tables are not accessible?

    Hi
Welcome to the greatest Oracle forum as this is your first post.
Have you tried to create a ODBC DSN using MS ODBC for Oracle and set ServerName to the Oracle Service Name, this should be working.
    To get your service name:
    select value from v$parameter where name='service_names';
By the way have you read that?

    Hope this helps you.

  • Data Loading from View in remote(db link) into oracle table

    Hi,
For an e-business inbound interface, my interface data is present in a remote view accessed via db link. I just need to get that data into Oracle and also want to have something such that whenever there is any insertion in dblink view, my table in oracle also updated with the new row.
So I want to have the data from db link view to be loaded in the table and at the same time whenever there would be insertions in that view, my table should be autopopulated.
Most of my research revolved round ref cursor but not able to get anything definite. The requirement seems to be simple.
    Any hints on the same.
    Regards,
    Ad

If "at the same time" means within the same transaction, that's generally a bad idea. In addition to imposing a fair amount of overhead to the source application, it substantially reduces the availability of the source application since the OLTP insert would fail if the source system cannot contact your database.
If "at the same time" means "shortly after the transaction is made in the source system," Oracle provides a number of different asynchronous replication methods. The simplest possible approach would be to create a materialized view in your system that queries the view over the database link and is set to refresh itself periodically. How frequently that can happen depends on how long it takes to do a complete refresh of the data and whether it is possible based on the view definition and whether materialized view logs can be created on the base tables in the source system to do an incremental refresh.

  • Can I use APEX directly read/sync with the Oracle Tables ?

We have a Oracle Database to manage the design data.I am trying to setup a web-based front end using APEX to manage & monitor the parts ordering & logisitics.I want to drive the master data directly from the database without any export or data transfer ? Can I directly read or Link an Oracle tables from APEX application.
Also, once this is setup,I am looking for setting up some data entry fields to enter Purchasing & Logistics information.Hope I can achieve this using APEX !
Look forward for the appropriate response.
    Thanks,
    Sham

    Tony,
Thanks & Appreciate your Quick response.
Glad that I can use the existing Oracle db schema with APEX.I am not sure if there is any information as how I can connect or link my production schema to the APEX ! I was able to import .csv files & use XL data to create some test databases & play with APEX..but,I did try to go thru most of the instructions & guides to find how to use the production oracle tables, but, could not find anything particular...Please send me a link or material info.
I suppose I can then use which ever attribute or table data that is required to build the queries ! I am planning to use the production data to build the ordering & logistics application using APEX.Assume I can create new fields & columns for parts that will be ordered & capture/record the purchasing information like Purchase order numbers/Supplier Info/Target Delivery dates etc...
    - Am on very tight schedules to get this application up & running ! Is there any support team or a technical support team that I can call upon if I need any help ?
    Thanks,
    Sham

  • Why data change in linked table in Access - link from Oracle DB

Can someone please help me to solve this situation? I try to find out why data is changed from Oracle to Access. I must come back to this thread because lot of data in my Oracle database is defined as NUMBER(22), and I am using Access heavily.
    Here is the problem:
In Access, I created ODBC connection (System DSN) to Oracle 9.2 database by using Oracle driver (NOT Microsoft ODBC for Oracle). Then I linked tables from Access with the Oracle table. What happens is that the number in Access linked table is displayed as a scientific number. Is there a way that I can preserve whatever I have in Oracle database?
    For example:
Comp_ID in Oralce is defined as NUMBER(22) = 40000000000324003; In Access it looks like this 4.0000000000324E+16.
What I have in my system:
    1- Oracle 9.2 client
    2- Oracle driver
    3- Access 2003
    4- Jet - SP 8

  • ORACLE EXPRESS: build a page with multiple forms linked to one table

    hi,
im using oravle application express. APEX
i would like to build a page with multiple forms linked to one table (orders) , the page has 4 from  each one with different order_id number (depending on filtering),  and if the order is prepared click yes for each order and this 'YES' should be UPDATED AND SAVED to each order number in the same table with the press of one button.
i created all the form as (sql query)
    and create one update process
    (UPDATE ORDERS
    SET TRAY_PREPARED =:P10_TRAY_PREPARED_1
    WHERE ORDER_ID =:P10_ORDER_ID_1;
    UPDATE ORDERS
    SET TRAY_PREPARED =:P10_TRAY_PREPARED_2
    WHERE ORDER_ID =:P10_ORDER_ID_2;
    UPDATE ORDERS
    SET TRAY_PREPARED =:P10_TRAY_PREPARED_3
    WHERE ORDER_ID =:P10_ORDER_ID_3;
    UPDATE ORDERS
    SET TRAY_PREPARED =:P10_TRAY_PREPARED_4
    WHERE ORDER_ID =:P10_ORDER_ID_4;
i dont know really if i can do that, but it appear hat it actually saving according to order_id number , but not all the time some time it saved the value as "null".
please guide me what is the correct way to do this.
    I READ THIS ONE
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7877396/apex-creating-a-page-with-multiple-forms-linked-to-multiple-related-tables
BUT IT WAS FOR MULTIPLE INSERT
    thanks.

    Sans,
I am no Apex expert, but with a situation as "complex" as yours, have you thought about creating a VIEW that joins these 7/8 tables, placing an INSTEAD OF trigger on that view to do all the business logic in the database, and base your application on the view?
This is the "thick-database" approach that has been gaining momentum of late. The idea is to put your business logic in the database wherever possible, and let the application (Form, Apex, J2EE, whatever) concentrate on UI issues,

    See this posting:
    Internet Explorer Cannot Display
There, I provided a couple of links on this particular issue. You need to change the timeout on your application server.

Try looking at this link, it's long but there's three different solutions discussed in it. If you look at Barbara Boehmer's

  • Writing a stored procedure to import SQL Server table data into a Oracle table

    Hello,
As a new DBA I have been tasked with writing a stored procedure to import SQL Server table data into an Oracle table. I have been given many suggestions on how to do it from SQL Server but I I just need to write a stored procedure to run it from the Oracle side. Suggestions/guidance on where to start would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I started to write it based on what I have but I know this is not correct :/
    # Here is the select statement for the data source in SQL Server...
    SELECT COMPANY
    ,CUSTOMER
    ,TRANS_TYPE
    ,INVOICE
    ,TRANS_DATE
    ,STATUS
    ,TRAN_AMT
    ,CREDIT_AMT
    ,APPLD_AMT
    ,ADJ_AMT
    ,TRANS_USER1
    ,PROCESS_LEVEL
    ,DESCRIPTION
    ,DUE_DATE
    ,OUR_DATE
    ,OUR_TIME
    ,PROCESS_FLAG
    ,ERROR_DESCRIPTION
      FROM data_source_table_name
#It loads data into the table in Oracle....
    Insert into oracle_destination_table_name (
    COMPANY,
    CUSTOMER,
    TRANS_TYPE,
    INVOICE,
    TRANS_DATE,
    STATUS,
    TRANS_AMT,
    CREDIT_AMT,
    APPLD_AMT,
    ADJ_AMT,
    TRANS_USER1,
    PROCESS_LEVEL,
    DESCRIPTION,
    DUE_DATE,
    OUR_DATE,
    OUR_TIME,
    PROCESS_FLAG,
    ERROR_DESCRIPTION)
    END;

CREATE TABLE statements would have been better as MS-SQL and Oracle don't have the same data types.
OUR_DATE, OUR_TIME will (most likely) be ONE column in Oracle.
    DATABASE LINK
Personally, I'd just load the data over a database link:
    insert into oracle_destination_table_name ( <column list> )
    select ... <transform data here>
    from data_source_table@mssql_db_link
As far as creating the database link from Oracle to MS-SQL ... that is for somebody else to answer.
(most likely you'll need to use an ODBC driver)
    EXTERNAL TABLE
If the data from MS-SQL is in a CSV file, just use and external table.
    same concept:
    insert into oracle_destination_table_name ( <column list> )
    select ... <transform data here>
    from data_source_external_table
    MK
