Links to text items in context

When I carry out a custom search, the results displayed can be linked to via the display name or image link.
However, when the user clicks on the display name link they are directed to a page which displays the text item alone - out of context from the page on which it would normally be found (ie minus normal template, style, layout). Is there a way (as on normal search engines) to be taken to the actual page on which the text item normally resides. I have used the page link on the result page to direct to attempt to replicate this but the page that is displayed when the page link is clicked is without the normal expected page template and is therefore not useful (ie it displays the text item on a blank page with the incorrect style and incorrect template). Is there any way around this so that the user is taken to the actual page or is there a way of changing the page template of the page onto which the user is directed to reflect the normal page templates?

The search results are currently set to display in two tabs - pages and documents (both using standard search results one looking for items the other pages). The type or style of page result attributes could not be changed despite what is changed on the result option page of the wizard(you may be aware of this bug) so we are shown, in order, PAGE, CREATE DATE, PAGE GROUP and CATEGORY.
When a user clicks on the Page link it is assumed that they would be taken to the complete page on which the result is based. However, this is not always the case. Each page in our page group consists of a navigation bar on the left and a header at the top with a multi-tabbed region below. There are two results that occur when the page link is clicked on: Either the user is navigated to the complete correct page on the site with the navigation page and other tabs in place (success) OR the user is taken to a page with a completely different style (Times new Roman even though there are no styles containing this font) and no navigation banner or other tabs. (disaster)In effect, it is showing just the content of one tab region in a blank template. This is no use to the user as they have then no way of navigating as they do not get the normal page setup.
If I include PAGE as one of the attributes to be shown with the document results then you would assume that you could click on the pagelink to go to the page on which the document is shown. This is not the case and similar to the page results, the content of a single tab may be shown (not on the normal the page template) and the style is again times new roman (the page contents appearing without the other tabs, navigation banner and header).
I hope this makes sense (as the logic of why it is happening doesn't seem to)

By default, P5_TASK_NAME displays Task Name which is passed from Page 3.
So I changed your code as follows so that P5_TASK_NAME value may be displayed with a link.

But P5_TASK_NAME value appears without any link and does not open page 3.
Then I created a new text item (display only) in the same HTML region in page 5 and entered the following code in the default box:

When I ran the application, it displayed the whole code as text.
How can I display P5_TASK_NAME value with a link to open page 3?
Would appreciate your help.

"Link That Displays Item In Folder Area " option for a Text Item not there in 9.0.2

In the previous version of Portal when you created a content area item of type text. there were four display options
1) Item Displayed Directly In Folder Area
2) Link That Displays Item In Folder Area (i.e on a page for a folder)
3) Link That Displays Item In Full Browser Window
4) Link That Displays Item In New Browser Window.
In release2 of protal the option number 2) is removed.
We were using option 2 as we added different portlets and style sheets on content area page because of which we were able to get the desired page.
Now in the new release this option is not there.
Any pointers to the issue.
or Is there a default style and page design which is used while opening the details of the text and whether that default can be modified or not?

Linked list to string coercion doesn't use text item delimiters: bug?

It appears that linked list to string coercion does not respect the AppleScript's text item delimiters which are set to list of Unicode text. (Unicode TIDs have no effects in coercion as if it were set to {""})
I can confirm this behaviour in both AppleScript 1.8.3 (OS9) and 1.9.1 (OSX10.2.8) at hand.
So it has been as such for a long time. Bug I'd call it.
By the way, although this is not the point, linked list is a historical residue and of little use in real scripting. After all, it is much slower than vector with appropriate coding. So we may always coerce it to vector without losing anything.

Hi, is it possible to open and display from text item link new window with formatting title, description and own text, but not only on the blank default page, but on the special page which I have created for this (with my layout as a template)?

Text items not being refreshed by LOV items.

Hi all,
I've got a strange LOV behavior problems which I cannot solve and require your valuable time and efforts.
I've created a simple ADF JSF pages with 3 fields and the first field is LOV enabled. For all new row, after clicking the LOV icon, the LOV will show up and after selecting a particular value, it closes the LOV screen and replace it with a new row with the selected LOV data. It is all working well for all new rows just like a normal LOV should perform.
But I had problem with existing data. The row which I selected from the LOV somehow cannot referesh and overwrite any existing row (visually) but after commiting the data, it was actually written and refreshed with the correct data. Is there a property in the JHeadstart Application Definition Editor where I enforce the text items to be refreshed by the LOV items?

I've performed the following scenarios attempting to refreshed Text items by the LOV Items.
Scenario 1: Create a new column called some_key load unique number into it. Set this column as the primay key and deselect existing primary keys as key attributes. Also, I've created a sequence and some_key is of type of DBSequence getting value from the new sequence starting from 1.
After generation when run and the result is:
JBO-27022: Failed to load value at index 11 with java object of type oracle.jbo.domain.DBSequence due to java.sql.SQLException.
## Detail 0 ##java.sql.SQLException: Invalid column index
Scenario 2: Create a unique index for the some_key column, rerun and the result is:
JBO-27022: Failed to load value at index 11 with java object of type oracle.jbo.domain.DBSequence due to java.sql.SQLException.

Scenario 3: Set some_key as number instead of DBSequence (from Entity Object Editor), rerun and the result is:

Scenario 4: Deattach the offending View Object from the Application Module. Remove the offending view link and view object. Recreate view object and view link. Reset some_key is of type of DBSequence getting value from the new sequence starting from 1 (From the Entity Object Editor). After generation when run and result is:
SUCCESSFULLY!!
So, I guess the bottom line is here are the following things which you need to perform in order to enable text item to be refreshed by LOV item (if the detail table has composite primary keys)
1.) Create a new column
2.) Load unique value to it
3.) Create unique index for it
4.) Create entity object, view object and view link object.
5.) Set the new column as primary key.
6.) Deselect the key attributes for all composite primary key columns.

Chart and text items are not synchron

hi all,
i am a newbie in apex 4.0.
i have two regions. the first shows a chart, based on pl/sql-code. second shows text items for possible filter an the current statement of the chart.
when user clicks on a bar in the chart then
1. i set the the first text item as filter,
2. a pl/sql-code runs, build a sql statement, assign the sql statement string to the second text item and
3. returns the statement for the chart.
it works fine. the chart refresh. and the data i can see are correct.
but the text items in the other region doesn't refresh.
when i press "refresh"-button at browser level everything is fine. chart and text items fits together.
what can I do to refresh all regions when the chart changes the sql-statment / User clicks?
Is there any way to read out the current statement of a chart?

Bernd: the reason I asked about views is that you don't have any error messages. This might indicate that (a) you have no items in the view, or (b) there's something wrong with view-role-user assignment.
To check for (a), please go to the published procurement catalog, and go to Views tab. Check that your View is Active. Click on your View ID link to display view details. You should see a list of characteristics assigned to your view in Assign Characteristics sub-tab (the list should not be blank!). Go to Assign Items sub-tab. Navigate in your schema to find items that are supposed to be assigned to your view. You should see "Yes" in the "Assigned" column for those products. If you don't, then you simply don't have any items in your view.
Another thing I'd like you to check: when the user calls your procurement catalog for search, do you see the name of the catalog displayed just below the drop-down "Select Categories Hierarchically"?

Portlet Item Attr: "Link That Displays Item in New Browser Window"

I have been searching the forums for a similar experience, but haven't found anything quite like this:
I have a couple of portlets. One is a Discoverer Portlet, the other is something more basic: The "Developer News" portlet from the 9iAS Community portlet provider.
After defining the portlets and looking at them, I edit the page and click the Edit button (little pencil) to edit the attributes.
There are radio buttons for Display Options.
One option is: "Link that Displays Item in New Browser Window."
When I select this, OK, and then go back to the page, **the portlet doesn't show at all any more! There is no link, no nothing. Note that I have defined a Display Name, which should be the text for the link.
It would seem that this feature flat out doesn't work.
This technique for a popup works fine for an "Item" defined in an item region.
Anyone?

Yes -- I did do that after reading an article on metalink about such issues.
This actually changes the problem.
When I add the "Display name and image link" attribute to the region, I now do get a link.
However, clicking it brings up an undefined Discoverer portlet.
It works great for non-Disco portlets. For instance, I was able to pop up the "Developer News" portlet from the Oracle 9iAS Community portlet provider.
I think the problem is that the link that Disco produces does not provide enough information to bring up the particular portlet. For instance, the URL does not have the workbook name, the worksheet name, the parameter values, etc.
If anyone uses Disco w/ the portal, I would be curious to hear if anyone can reproduce this apparent bug / limitation.

How to find the ID of the text item of the column in an tabular form

Firstly, your link must include "this" to ensure that any javascript knows which link has been clicked. So, change:

onclick="javascript:report(this);"Next, your javascript code must take this value and find the related DEPTNO item on the same row. The URL must pass to the popup page the name of the ID that needs to be updated - this is held in the f10 variable in the following script. This means that you popup page must be able to receive this value so that it can use it to update the DEPTNO item when a value is selected. Your popup page seems to be page number 4, so I will assume that you have a P4_ITEM_ID hidden item on that page for this purpose. So, the javascript on the main page would be something like:

}So, when the user clicks a link, the report() function is called and the object clicked is passed as a parameter. The script then starts from this object and goes up to the TR tag that the link is on. From here, it finds all INPUT items and then looks at those to find one that has a name attribute of "f10". When it finds it, it stores the ID of that in the "f10" variable. It then constructs a URL using this variable which is set into the P4_ITEM_ID hidden item on the popup page.
I don't know what your javascript is on the popup, but it would need to get the value out of P4_ITEM_ID to see which main page item needs updating. This could be something like:

How can I add a link to an item within a workflow email - which will always find the item - even if it's status has changed?

I've used the method within the SharePoint designer to add a link to the workflow context current item URL, but when the current item status changes then obviously this link will no longer work.
How can I change this link so that it will always open the item, even if someone has changed it within the list, before I clink on the link?
This is an important one as over 300 people will use the list and many of these will be emails about items on the list will be in different time zones. I don't want to have lots of mails from people saying "this list doesn't work" as it's
critical they keep using it.
Please help.
P.S. I don't know if the <href> method will work, so if someone can confirm to me then that would be great.

I’ m not very clear about the status you said. Please descript more detail which URL do you want to display.
Per my knowedge, you can display the following url in your email body:

[%Workflow Context: Workflow Status URL%]
[%Current Item: Encoded Absolute URL%]
Please start the workflow automatically when an item is changed and changed.
No matter how you edit the item or update the approve status, the URLs remains the same.

How to make one of the columns in my tabular an text item with popup lov

Hello,
I want to manually make one of the columns say for the deptno in my tabular form as on text item popup lov using apex_item package
and whenever user clicks on the text item popup lov, it should open up an dept table report and from which he/she needs to select
the deptno and this deptno should be returned into the text item popup lov column.
like for example: say if i have an emp table tabular form with all the columns and deptno column as an popup lov and when user clicks on this column
it should open up an new sql report(similar to popup lov window), the select statement for this would be

Using text items in portlets

Hi,
If you upload an image, you can use the virtual path of that image to display it in an HTML portlet.
Does the same apply for text? Is it possible to add a text item in a content area and have it displayed in an HTML portlet?

Yes, you have to create a folder for each textportlet.
This method also gives you very nice "render within portlet" opportunities. Surf to www.PlanMySport.com, click tab "Informatie" and click the link "Lees hier meer over..." in the upper left portlet. It's in Dutch, but it's just to show the functionality.
The link "Lees hier meer over..." is a subfolder in the folder displaying the announcement "Waarom gebruikt u als sportorganisatie PlanMySport?".
Just try this method - it's very powerful.

How to create a link to an item?

I noticed that you can create a folder-link, but not an item-link. I cannot use the URL as an item-link "work-a-round" because when the (text)item changes (new version), the URL changes too. This would take a lot of management resources too update these changes.
In short: How can i place a shortcut to an item so i do not have to place the item twice?

I don't know if this helps, but if the item is a document/file then it is possible to use the document access path.
For text items, I don't know what the solution is (rather then not using item versioning on text items).
This is what is written in the ONLINE help on the document access path.
The Document Access Path is what tells the PL/SQL Gateway to get a document from the Oracle Portal document repository in the database. The URL for any uploaded document would be similar to the following:

How to get bounds of bounding box of text item.

I am trying to get the bounds of bounding box of paragraph text item. I found the following link,
the coordinate of a bounding box is the same as the layer's coordinate?
But the solution doesn't work for me. It gives me the layer's bound every time i.e. the bounds of actual text.
Can someone have any idea how to accomplish this?

It's a known "not trivial". You have layer.textItem.width/height, but they don't always report correct values. I.e. if the layer or doc has been resized, those values are missing scale multipliers. Worse it's works differently wrong in different versions of CC and Mac/Win. What I use is below (with some utility functions missing), but it's just CC 2012 and 2014 (CS6 is just bounds).
Alternatively you can get this stuff on Action Manager only, but I'm not familiar enough and let other comment on it.
