Links within documents

I used to make Page documents with links. Click on this word and you are taken to another page of the document. It's been a while, but today I was attempting the same thing and wasn't able to do it. The only options seem to be Web or email links. I'm trying to make a document that begins with a list of the months which allows the user to click on the month and the user is taken to the beginning of the pages I've linked. I suspect it's still possible, seems a rather basic need.

Please always give the version numberof the Pages you are talking about.
It seems like you are trying to do this in Pages 5.
Bookmark linksa are removed along with about 100 others.
Pages '08/'09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

  • Creating Links Within Documents

Hello, You know those emails that we get from stores with images that you click on and each image opens a different link? How do you make these documents in Appleworks? Thanks, Jerry P.S. I've gotten as far as making a .cwk file, which works fine once it opens up in Appleworks but of course when I send it via email you don't see the image, merely an Appleworks file icon and you have to open it up with Appleworks in order to view the image and open the link.

    Hello
You got the normal behaviour for an AppleWorks document.
As far as I know, if you want an other behaviour, you must use an other tool.

  • From a PDF in a browser window - open links within in that PDF in a new window

    BACKGROUND SCENARIO:
Users view a PDF document within their browser window (default behavior at my organization).  Key point is, the PDF isn't being viewed in an Acrobat Reader window, it's being viewed within the browser window.
Within that PDF, are many links to intranet pages. And incidentally, this PDF happens to be a document that is updated frequently (More on this caveat in a moment)
EDIT: The end users are end users, smart people, but not necessarily super-sophisticated computer users.
    MY QUESTION:
When a user clicks a link within the PDF, I want the new page to open in a new window, NOT in the same window that the PDF was being viewed in.
I've done a fair amount of homework:  The prevailing answer is to use Acrobat Pro's "LINK" feature to turn the hyperlink into a javascript command that opens the link in a new window, and to do this (a) MANUALLY, (b) ONE LINK AT A TIME, and (c) Repeat steps (a) and (b) EACH TIME the document gets updated.   (Back track now to my earlier caveat.. this is a frequently changing document with lots of links... Doing manually and repeating the whole process each time the document is updated is a lot of work.)
I believe there are some add-on products that make this easier too.
So my question is...  Other than add-ons, Is there another way?  a better way?  a more efficient way?  Or is there another way, on the way?
    SOMEWHAT RELATED QUESTION:  (EDIT)
Another answer that would more or less satisfy me:  is there a way either from the calling HTML page, or from within the PDF document itself, to force the PDF to open within its own Acrobat Reader window, rather than within the browser window?  That would mostly dodge the issue, by opening linked pages in the browser anyway.
A little extra background information: The document also uses password protection (a management requirement), which is why opening the links in the same window is such a pain.  Back-keying back to the document after viewing the link requires re-typing the document password, a noted pain.  I'd accept a fix to that particular problem too, but I don't think there is one.  Either way, the new-window question is one I'd like to solve.  (FYI, I asked the password retype question separately over in the security forum, here:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/5055162#5055162).

You can't update the destination for a link using JavaScript, because there's no way to read the link's current action. While there is a setAction() function to create a new action on an existing link, there's no "getAction" function.
In terms of how a PDF file opens, nothing in the document or in the HTTP headers can influence whether the file is opened in the browser or on the desktop - that's a user preference. What you can do with scripting on the server is send HTTP content-disposition headers that define the PDF file as something the user should download and save, rather than something the browser should try to open.

  • How do you open a link within a PDF in a new window?

I created a PDF that will be viewed in a browser. Is there a way to set the links within the PDF to open in a new window?

Did you get an answer to this?   I am having the exact same issue.  My source html document has a link which specifies a target of _blank, but when I generate a pdf from that html doc, view the PDF in my browswer, and click the link, it overlays the PDF instead of opening a new window with the linked URL.  I've seen this posted as an issue a number of times, but have yet to see a solution.

  • Link DMS document to Sales Order

    Hello -
Currenlty, our Quality Department manually opens each applicable sales order and manually attaches a required document via the "Extras/Documents" path from within VA02 menu bar. It is extremely time consuming.
I want to know if it is possible to automatically attach a "linked document" to a sales order after it has been saved? I'd like to create/run a batch job that loops through these sales orders, and if applicable, attaches the "linked document". DMS is setup and working and the document that I need to attach is ready. I don't know where I need to put the record of this "link". I can see all of the "links" via CV03N (Object Links/Sales Document Item), but I don't know how they get there.
Any advice or link to documentation would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bryan

A few more questions with BAPI_DOCUMENT_CREATE2.
Here is the FM. Can you assist in helping me establish which parameters I need to provide?
    Example:
Sales Order: 2142342 with one line item.
    Document:
    TYPE: ZQN (DRAW-DOKAR)
    DOC: QZ6 (DRAW-DOKNR)
    PART: 000 (DRAW-DOKTL)
    VER: 00 (DRAW-DOKVR)
    CALL FUNCTION 'BAPI_DOCUMENT_CREATE2'
    EXPORTING
        documentdata                           = ls_doc
        HOSTNAME                             =
        DOCBOMCHANGENUMBER     =
        DOCBOMVALIDFROM              =

        PF_HTTP_DEST                       = ' '
    IMPORTING
        documenttype                 = lf_doctype

        DOCUMENTSTRUCTURE         =
        DOCUMENTFILES                   =
        LONGTEXTS                           =
        COMPONENTS                       =
I see that there is an objectlinks table which I assume is used to create the link between the document and VA02/VA03. The underlying structure for the objectlinks table is BAPI_DOC_DRAD. I'm not clear on what values I need to add to this table when calling the BAPI_DOCUMENT_CREATE2. FM.??
Any advice on how to fill stucture BAPI_DOC_DRAD?
Also, I don't want to create any documents. The document already exists. I just want to establish a link. Can I do that without creating a document that already exists?
    Thanks,

  • How do you retain links within a page when converting from Microsoft word from a Mac?

Keeping Microsoft Word page links within a document or converting the filed map into bookmarks are not options when you work on a Mac. I subscribe to the Adobe Acrobat Plus  service specifically to address that issue. But I can't find any documentation on this site that will walk one through the process. Can someone please direct me to a tutorial page that will allow me to keep my links and convert my bookmarks?

Have you tried using Safari's built-in method to email the content of a web page?
File > Mail Contents of This Page
    (Keboard shortcut: Command-I)
If you don't want to email the entire page's content, you can easily edit it in the resulting email window, deleting the portions that you don't want.

  • RH9 - Can not create ANY links in linked Word documents ;-(

Ok, this does not make sense:
    - From RH9, create a fresh empty project
    - Create two word files "Topic1.docx" and "Topic2.docx"
    - Put "Link Here" in each document
    - Save the documents
    - From Project Manager, Project Files, link both documents, generate, update all, etc.
    - Now create hyperlinks in each topic, pointing to the other topic using default topic editor in RH9
    - Save All and Generate the WebHelp project and test the links are there and work.
    - Now open and edit both word documents in word. Add some text to each and save
    - In RH9 Project Manager, Project files, Update All and open the topics in RH9 default editor
Walla, the full text is there, the LINKS are gone. Actually, I understand that this is how it works, but the BIG problem is that links to bookmarks, other topics, links to outside resources created in RH9 Default Editor cannot be preserved when the related/linked document is edited in Word. AND, you cannot create ANY of these links in the Word documents. So, you have a help system that has really nice update features when an author makes a change to a document, but NO LINKS. Updating a linked document will DELETE ANY changes made within the RH9 Default Editor.
Does this make any sense? Has my brain fallen down? Is there another workflow option?
    Thanks for any help
    Lyle
Hummmmm, NO POPUPs, mini TOCs or See Also Keywords, Link Controls, etc. etc. etc.

I have been observing this thread and wanted to just chip in to remove some misnomers,
    1. If you create any hyperlink from any MS Word document (say Doc1) to another MS Word document (say Doc2) and you import the original document (Doc1) then it brings its reference (that is the word document Doc2) as baggage in the RoboHelp project and the hyperlink is not created to the html file generated for the word document Doc2 (linked or imported seprately).
thus if you click the hyperlink in RoboHelp it should open the word document Doc 2 (that was brought into the project as baggage)
    2. If word "conversion setting" alone are modified (like the settings “convert references to hyperlinks”) then at times the mapping fails to work, in such scenarios just go to the conversion settings dialog of FrameMaker and modify multiple “other settings” (it won’t impact your word conversion mapping.) Now any conversion settings applied for word will work.
Hence the “convert references to hyperlinks” is working but you need to update any FrameMaker conversion settings to get it working
@ Lyle – as now the flow must be clearer so I would give you a suggestion to merge all the word documents that you want to work with and use cross-references to places you want to have hyperlinks and use the option to “convert references to hyperlinks” in RoboHelp.and keep all the authoring in word document so that nothing is lost on update.
NB – There is a method to create intra document cross references in MS Word
In FrameMaker the concept of book gives it a sense of collection and thus cross references across FM documents inside a book are converted easily but in Word there is no way to group word documents and thus it is not possible to convert any spatial hyperlinks from one document to another.
    Hope this helps

  • RH11 "messes up" hyperlinks set in a linked word document

    Hello Adobe Community,
I am having some troubles with RH11, importing Word-Docs and generating html code. The problem is the following:
There is a word document "text1.docx" with some hyperlinks in it, which navigate to a certain html file in the RH output. Let me be a bit more precise:
-I have two word documents: text1.docx (containing hyperlinks) and text2.docx (content unimportant)
-Now I am importing both docx-files to RH but to different working folders so they appear in different folders in the RH output:
create folder "folder1" in RH and import text1.docx into folder1
create folder "folder2" in RH and import text2.docx into folder2
-Now I am generating the output and the structure is the following:
    ... !SSL! --> Output --> folder1 --> text1.htm
                                --> folder2 --> text2.htm
                                --> index.htm
                                --> other files
Because I know what the output structure will look like I set a hyperlink in "text1.docx" which navigates to the "text2.htm" file. The hyperlink looks like this: "../folder2/text2.htm"
Somehow in the process RH "messes up" this link and replaces the relative part of the path with its temporary working directory. So after the process the link is not "../folder2/text2.htm" but "//file:/c:/Users/User1/AppData/Local/Temp/folder2/text2.htm". I think it is obvious that this link will not work. How do I manage it to tell RH not to change any part of the hyperlinks and just copy-paste it into the html file.
I do not want to be rude, but I do not want to read anything about my approach and that it is not best practice etc.. Because we have approx. 500 documents with many hyperlinks of this type it is neither an option change the links within the word documents nor to manually edit them in RH.
The past years we used a workaround with GREP to replace the wrong links with correct ones, but a solution within RH would be more comfortable.
I hope you can help me :-)
    Best regards from Germany

The problem is that Rh accepts what it is given by Word. Part of the import process is to first let Word convert the file to HTML format and Rh has to let Word do that. Word writes the link in the format you see.
Add in that when you import document 1, there is no document 2 to give Rh a chance.
Maybe someone at Adobe can figure out a solution as you are not the first person to flag this issue. Add your voice the chorus. Please follow this link.

  • Linking a document

    Hello,
I evaluate the JavaStudio Creator for the DeutschePost ITSolutions and I want to know, if I can link a document to an object (for example menu or listbox), without including them in a database?

I know this is a year late, but for anyone still searching for this, I found a solution that works well for me:
    1. Create the table in the Access Web App that you wish to attach files to.
    2. Use Sharepoint Business Connectivity Services to read the data in the background database for your Access Web App.
    3. Create a document library in Sharepoint, adding an external data column type, using the content type you created in Business Connectivity Services.
You can now specify an access web app table row from within your document library in sharepoint.
    4. In Access, link a table to the sharepoint document library.
    5. Edit the default created datasheet from your linked table, to include the fields you wish to display.  Include the field that is used for your field name in the document library - it has a hyperlink included in it.
    6. In the view form for your original table (step 1), add a subview, specifying the datasheet from step 5 and linking by the field id that should now be shared between your original table and the linked sharepoint document library.
You can now see the files attached to the table item, including a hyperlink in the file field.
    7. Add a hyperlink to your view form to the upload.aspx in the document library.
    8. For added ease, you can pass the row id of your original table to the external content id of the document library within the url.  This takes added javascript work on editform, but it makes it so that the user does not need to select the external
data.  You can even hide the field if you wish, but I kept it visible so that I can edit within the library.
A true step by step would take a lot more time.  If you're familiar with these subparts, this should make sense to you.  I hope.

  • Linking word documents and auto-updating TOCs?

    Hi, all!
I know InDesign a bit, but am about to embark on a project that I could use some help on. Im compiling all the different writing Ive done in the past four years into a little ebook. There are about 50 different essays/articles, each under four categories in the table of contents. Many need editing, and the ebook will require lots of moving things around and editing.
So, is it possible to link Word documents like as you can do with images? I would like to have InDesign link to all the different word documents that comprise different essays, etc, so I can edit individual essays from Word and have them auto-update within InDesign. Also, is there a similar thing I can do with the table of contents, where it will automatically update the page number of a given entry when I rearrange it? These two things would save me much time!
    Thank you!
    Alec

As much as you think you want to auto-update the Word documents, you don't.
Yes, there is a way to link those Word files, but you will lose all formatting applied in ID each time you do update the linked files.
Why don't you just make those changes in InDesign?
Next, yes, you can create a TOC that will update page numbers automatically when the document(s) change.
    That is no problem.

  • Doc Links within Summ Total LMS

I have created a couple of Captivate tutorials that feature
links to PDF docs. Now I need to start using these tutorials
through Summ Total LMS and I don't know how to post the PDF files
so that I can edit the Captivate with the appropriate document
address to make the links work.

    Hi,
Simply make the link to the pdf document using the file name
within captivate e.g., sales.pdf, without any filepath etc.
Then publish the project, and select the zip function within
captivate. Prior to uploading to SumTotal, double click the zipped
project and drag and drop all the .pdf files you have links to into
    the zip package.
Then upload to SumTotal as a zipped package. The links within
    captivate will open the .pdf.
Just make sure you have set the option to 'New' to open a new
window on click, in the click box properties within captivate when
making the link, that way the .pdf will openin a fresh window
    allowing the project to remain.

  • Linking a document library to a Sharepoint/Access 2013 App

I am not a developer but I am playing with building an app within SharePoint 2013.  I am an office 365 subscriber.  I am attempting to build an app that would act as a simplified CRM for SharePoint.  I would like to add attachments like emails

Is there a way to add attachments directly into a sharepoint/access web app within sharepoint?
If not is there a way to connect a document library to the sharepoint access web app as a work around?
If you have any other ideas they would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

  • Linking other documents into Pages

Hello. This is my first post and I'm a recent convert from a PC. I've scoured this forum for an answer and played for ages myself and not been able to sort out my problem - so I apologise in advance if its been answered a hundred times before!
I am preparing a report in Pages and I would like to include links within in it to select other objects, such as pdf files, presentations etc. I don't want these open all the time, just if the reader wants to access the info. I see how you can put in a link to call out another Pages report, but not say a pdf file. I have tried dragging and dropping a pdf from Finder, but it opens it out and I just want a little icon that the reader can select.
    Any suggestions? Thanks. Katarine

    Hi Katarine
    Welcome to the forum.
Pages lets you link to other Pages documents, but not particular pages within those documents, bookmarks within the same document, and weblinks.
So the limitation will be yes you can link to .pdf files but they will need to be have an url and be on an accessible website.
As Yvan said you can ask Apple to make this more flexible:
    +Menu > Pages > Provide Pages Feedback+

    Hi All,
For some reasons, I can not see the Additional Personal Data link within the ESS Personal Information iView. I have checked the Homepage framework and the existence of the iView in the PCD and everything appears to be fine.
Do I need to assign any additional infotype to my id or give myself specific authorisations to see this link?

    Hi,
I think mostly you have maintained the data in PA30 Transaction and had data in Info type 0105.
After this try to check with your EA-HR patch and SAP HR patch in the services. If  both are not maintained at the same patch levels such type of problems will occur.
