Hi,
I just wanted to share some great sites with some general linux articles:

(articles and tutorials about linux. Great info. Really!)
for some articles/ tutorials you have to register but everything is free and as long as you make sure you check the boxes that say : "no info sharing plz" everything is ok.

  • Sequence edit strategy - help finding articles, resources discussing approaches...

    Hi All...
I've just finished editing my first video documentary...
Just a 5min. entry for a local contest.
Adobe Premiere - worked Great !
BUT - I'm confused by the differences and resulting consequences (for future management, ripple, roll, etc.) between:
    a) Nesting,  b)Grouping,  c)Linking artifacts on the Premiere timeline....
    For my documentary - I:
    1) I Grouped together video and related audio....  Though "Linking" seemed to acheive the same goal - what's the difference..
    2) I did NOT "Nest" any of my content - instead I would build transitions, audio, titles, videos etc. for a given scene in one "Sequence" container timeline.
Once I was happy with this - I would save - and then just Drag/Drop that sequence onto another "Root" level - or Main sequence that I would use
to gather all my scenes together... It's on this "Main" top-level sequence - that I would add my final narration and background music ?
What's the point of "Nesting" - if you can just drag-drop your content to other sequences - and it appears as a single video/audio channel ?
Can anyone here - forward me to a good article, resource discussing some higher level strategies for organizing sequences etc. for larger projects...
    Pros/Cons..
    Thanks very much...

    Thanks very much my friend...
    * Is there any danger - to the approach I took...
    * What advantage/difference - is there between groups video/audio.... instead of "linking"...
Re: Nesting...the way you describe... sounds like - the ends are the same...
You say most editors work with a single sequence - but - when that sequence gets busy...
then they grab logical-sections/"scenes" and "Nest" them....
** The act of doing that would replace all that busy/complexity with a single video/audio channel - linked to a newly created sequence container - with everything that was selected for the "nest" operation.
You still end up with two sequence containers...  a top-level one... and linked "children" ?
Sorry if this is too newbie of a question...
But I don't think timeline/sequence nesting/management strategies are really discussed in depth anywhere in the online help....
I'd hate to get far into a more complex project - based on poor workflow I've developed for my first work.... only to learn that there are problems
issues - with my approach.   Perhaps the crashes or limits w.r.t. editing ?
    Thanks

  • RFC: Introduce new 'Article/Tutorial (Comment) Threads' in the Web Dynpro Forum

This thread was branched from forum thread: How to print the data of a Model node.

    Hi Valery,
thanks for this great idea. Indeed, there is no channel set up to communicate feedback/suggestions/questions to Web Dynpro tutorials or articles in a standardized way.
WebLogs can be commented on the WebLog page itself and they are announced in a special ;\ New Web Dynpro Weblogs which can be opened via the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/uuid/49f2ea90-0201-0010-ce8e-de18b94aee2d">Web Dynpro Feature2Sample Matrix</a>. Actually the section 'Further Information' lists all related articles, WebLogs etc. These links are regularly updated so that the Sample Description Pages helps to keep all links to valuable information in a central place.
The 'Sample Description Page' should additionally comprise a section <b>'Discussion'</b> with a link to the above 'Article Comment Thread' in the Web Dynpro forum. The reader downloads the material from the sample description page and also finds a link to the related 'Article Comment Thread' there.
For all new articles (which are combined with a related 'Article Comment Thread') the <i>Further Information</i> links could point to the 'Article Comment Thread' (which then itself links to the article) but not directly to the article resource. The reader can then also have look at the existing comments to the related resource. As an alternative the article PDF itself should have a permanent link to the 'Article Comment Thread' in the Web Dynpro Forum.
Please post your comments on this idea.
    Regards, Bertram

  • Sum Encrypt does not recognize a copy of a file through linux. How decrypt this file with Sum Encrypt?

Sum Encrypt does not recognize a copy of a file through linux to Mac 0S9. How decrypt this file with Sum Encrypt?

Hello, and welcome to Apple Support Communities!
I am not familiar with the program that you list, however files in OS 9 use things called Resource Forks (rather than file extensions) for filetype and creator.
If you sent a file through Linux these resource forks probably got stripped and now the file is nothing to your Macintosh.
It is best to BinHex your files (.hqx) before leaving the HFS file system so that their resource forks are preserved.

  • Resource Rate Information for Costing

In the MS TN article for best practices for submitting and reporting on actual work (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh694531%28v=office.14%29.aspx), the recommended best practice is to report directly against the actual work captured in timesheets.
The problem with this is the timesheet tables do not have resource cost/rate information. From what we've seen in other TN articles, resource rate table doesn't exist in the reporting database? How then is it possible to base reporting on actual work from
    the timesheet?
According to MS, it's easy... "While many calculations are made in a project plan, such as cost based on cost rates, these can be easily replicated with timesheet data"
We could get actual work in the assignments tables, but the actual hours are then changed by EVA calculations and therefore won't match weekly or monthly invoices for receiving.
    What are our options?

    Indeed you're right.
As far as I remember, the publish DB has the MSP_RESOURCES table which contains a RES_RATE_TABLE column with the rate table UID. Then you'll have to dig into the publish DB to find where is located the rate tables since I don't remember.
    Hope this helps,

  • Help debugging JVM crash on linux

Does anybody have any tips on debugging JVM crashes?
I have a third-party shared library that I link in and use through JNI bindings.
When I use this third party application with the 1.6.0 JVM on red hat enterprise linux, it causes the JVM to unpredictably SEGV.
I'm stumped, I don't know how to debug this since I don't have source code for either the third-party app or for the JVM.
Even some thoughts about what might cause the JVM to do this would be great. I've looked in depth at signals and signal handling but didn't find anything wrong there.
    Help!

    Hi there,
Since you said you use JNI, did you try to use the -Xcheck:jni parameter? It will perform some extra consistency checks when calling JNI, at the expense of maybe some loss in JNI performance. This might catch any problems that might occur at the JNI level. Of course, if the third-party library has bugs and corrupts the VM heap, there's no much we can do.

  • Where do you get your GNU/Linux news?

Hi guys. Just a quick question/discussion. Did a search, but it came up with no good results.
Where do you guys get your daily fix for Linux news, for everything new and exciting in the Linux world?
I'm still fairly new to Linux. First used it back around Ubuntu 8.10, but then switched back to Windows within a few weeks. Then got back into it around the beginning of this year with 10.04. Before eventually moving to Sabayon for quite a fair bit of time then just recently trying out Arch, and loving it.
As an Ubuntu user originally, I like to check out the articles on OMGUbuntu for news and info on new applications, or changes, being developed and also DistroWatch for news on new distributions or updates. I also like to read the occasional Linux article on Gizmodo or Lifehacker that they sometimes feature.
Anyway, where do you like to get your news?

By and large, I get online news by subscribing to RSS feeds (--I use Google Reader to aggregate them, but there are other options too--), not through normal web pages. If it weren't for RSS, there's no way I'd have time to visit all the webpages I'd want to visit every day. Indeed, I mainly become aware of new posts in these forums through its RSS feed.
Anyway, here are some broadly linux-related RSS feeds I subscribe to. Most of them have associated webpages too. (Thank goodness I can just export a list from Google Reader or I'd never remember them all...)

  • Path where to install the run time engine (on Linux)

I have a cluster of Linux computers where I would like to run compiled LABview (8.20 at the moment) applications build
    with the application builder.
Therefore I would like to install the LABview run time engine on a NFS mount file system seen from each computer.  But
the installation procedure of the run time engine does not propose to
choise the installation directory, but force the installation
    in  /usr/local/lib.
I try to workaround this problem and have copied the /usr/local/lib/LABview.8.2 directory to my NFS filesystem and
    made the 'necessary' links.
Unfortunatly it doesn't run and  fails because  the
liblvrt.so.8.2 library  can not access patched versions of the
    libOSMesa.so.4
and libGL.so.1 librairies but uses the standard ones in /usr/X11R6/lib.
Even by setting my LD_LIBRARY_PATH correctly to access the patched librairies versions it does not run because the
liblvrt8.2 library seems to be  linked with the following
'rpath'   (given by the command 'strings liblvrt.so.8.2 |
    grep patchlib')
    $ORIGIN/LabVIEW-8.2/patchlib:$ORIGIN/patchlib:/usr/X11R6/lib:/usr/lib:$ORIGIN:$ORIGIN/LabVIEW-8.2/linux:$ORIGIN/linux:$ORIGIN/resource
which prevents to access the patched librairies versions if the $ORIGIN is not set. Therefore I tried to set $ORIGIN as an
environment variable but it doesn't change anything.
Therefore my question is: Did somebody have already had this type of problem,  what is $ORIGIN and how I can set it ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Sir,
Please could tell me the distribution you use ?
    Cordially,

  • Resource Allocation for IEEE 1394 (Firewire) Cameras in Triggered Mode

    In this article:
Resource Allocation for IEEE 1394 (Firewire) Cameras in Triggered Mode
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/ED092614FCCC900D86256D8D004A3B0C
it says "The Bytes Per Packet value represents the number of bytes that are transmitted at consistent 125us intervals on the FireWire bus during image acquisition" and the reciprocal of the 125us value would seem to be the source of a value of 8000 in a subsequent formula used to calculate the frames per second.
Is this 125us value independent from the firewire bus speed or a function of it?
If it is a function of bus speed, how does it vary with speed?
(Is the 125us value for 400Mbps and 250us for 200Mbps?)
    Thanks!

    Hello Warren
Thank you very much for getting in touch with us.  Although the Firewire standard itself is not technically supported by National Instruments, I will do my best to assist you.  I am currently referencing the IEEE 1394 documentation.  From what I'm reading, I do not believe the 125 microsecond value changes.  I have copied and pasted the paragraph of interest under Bus Arbitration from a document that I referenced:
The arbitration mechanism gets more complicated when isochronous devices are connected on the bus, because those devices have already been guaranteed bandwidth.  Each arbitration round is approximately 125μs long, so bandwidth is allocated as a portion of the 125μs interval.  The root node broadcasts (sends a message to node 63, the broadcast address) a cycle start packet, which begins the arbitration round.    All interested nodes send an arbitration request as before, and the winning node is still the node closest to the root.  After .04μs of bus idle time, the remaining nodes arbitrate for control of the bus.  Once each isochronous node has completed its transaction the time remaining in the 125μs interval is used for asynchronous transactions.  Up to 80% of the bus bandwidth may be allocated to isochronous transactions and the remaining 20% is left available for asynchronous transactions.
The original document can be found here:
The FireWire Serial Bus and its Implementation
I, unfortunately, cannot claim to be an expert on the IEEE 1394 standard but from what I've researched, the 125 microsecond time allocation is standard and bandwidth is then allocated accordingly.  I may recommend consulting IEEE 1394 Trade Association (http://www.1394ta.org/about/Contact.html) for more in depth information.  Please let me know if this is sufficient or if I can be of further assistance.  I will do everything I can to ensure that your issues is resolved.
    Have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    Greg S.

    Dears,
I am new to this topic of deploying SCOM Agent to Linux Server...
In my deployment, I want to push SCOM Agent to Linux Ubuntu, I have confirmed below:
    Ubuntu distribution is supported
I am using root account with no SSH certificate
On Linux Server firewall for IPv4 and IPv6 is off
I can telnet to linux port 22
root account have privilege to access 22
WHen I try push installation, I am able to:
    Discover the servers
Push the agent and deploy it (I can see the service scom agent service started and I can telnet to Linux Server port 1270)
when scom push agent wizard try to sign the certificate it fail with below error:

I have tried sudo account , it also fail with same error
    Please help on this.

    Jean,
It looks like this is most likely your issues. Please give it a try and see if it resolves the problem.
    Possible Causes
The Management Servers default action account does not have the necessary privileges (administrator) to open the root certificate store.
    Resolutions
Set the Action Account for the Manage Server(s) as a local administrator account
Configure a local administrator account in the Run As Profile: Certificate Signing Profile
If the Certificate Signing Profile is configured, the action account associated in that profile will be used. If not, it will fall back to the default Action Account

  • JavaWS JFileChooser Problem

Hi there, i am trying to use javawebstart to deliver my application.
By now i loaded some resources stored inside the jar of the application using the
    functionalities provided by java.
However when i try to open a file in the user file system,
or particularly when i create a new JFileChooser window.. a security exception is thrown..
I referred to this article to reconstruct a similar version of jFileChooser for resources inside
    the jar file. http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=646569&messageID=3807781
Have you any idea on how to load userspace file avoiding security exceptions?
    Thanks Andrea
    P.s.
I already posted this topic in the wrong place :( i hope this is a more correct one.
    And you can heko me.

in another message i found out this 2 possible solutions:
"You can use the jnlp api for FileOpenService/FileSaveService, or use signed application"
however my application is signed as you can see here:
and i still have that error..

  • Trouble with CFMAIL

I'm using CFMail on a Win2k server running IIS and having a
    wierd mail problem.
I can send mail to certain email addresses, but not others.
The ones that don't get mail
are *definitely* valid emails, at places like gmail with no
    problems in the account.
There's no clear logic to which emails do work and which
don't, but the log shows this for
the ones that don't send out
    "Error","scheduler-5","12/04/06","06:41:47",,"Invalid
    Addresses; nested exception is: class
    javax.mail.SendFailedException: 452 4.2.2 Mailbox full "
    "Error","scheduler-5","12/04/06","06:44:04",,"Invalid
    Addresses; nested exception is: class
    javax.mail.SendFailedException: 452 4.2.2 Mailbox full "
What can I do to find more information out, are there are any
articles/resources or anyone with war-scars that can help explain
    this one?
    Thanks much

    following message: "508 5.5.2 Illegal

    Administrator?
    According to this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name_system#Internationalised_domain_names,
it's legal to have those sort of characters in a domain name,
    but not a
    host name.
    But according to this:
    http://java.sun.com/products/javamail/javadocs/javax/mail/Address.html,
    it
    sticks to RFC 822 (
    http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc822.txt),
    which doesn't seem
to differentiate between the host part and the domain part of
    an address,
and only allows for ASCII 0-127 in the domain name.
So the bottom line is those domain names - for the purposes
    of internet
email addressing - aren't actually legal. So - strictly
    speaking - it's
correct for CF to reject them.
I would say you're screwed, unless you can find some
    alterative emailing
system (not <cfmail>), and use that. But then again,
    the alternatives
could quite possibly disallow those addresses too.

  • Neverwinter Nights

    Hello,
I was going to install Neverwinter Nights, but I have a question first. In the official website it says:
Installing Using Downloaded Linux Client Resources
    1. Download and extract the contents of the Linux Client Resources (nwresources129.tar.gz, 1.12 GB). This file is available for download from these mirror site(s):
        * Linux Client Resources v1.29 - Fileshack
        * Linux Client Resources v1.29 - BioWare
    2. For a non-english install, you will also need the appropriate language file. Download and extract the contents of the language file into the 'nwn' directory created by extracting the files in Step 1. These files are available for download from these mirror site(s):
        * German Language Files v1.29 (.tar.gz, 364 MB) - BioWare
        * French Language Files v1.29 (.tar.gz, 341 MB) - BioWare
        * Spanish Language Files v1.29 (.tar.gz, 4 MB) - BioWare
        * Italian Language Files v1.29 (.tar.gz, 4 MB) - BioWare
    3. Download the Linux Client 1.29 binaries (tar.gz, 5.3 MB).
    4. Extract the contents of Linux Client binaries (nwclient129.tar.gz) into the 'nwn' directory created by extracting the files in Step 1.
    5. Update to latest version.
    6. Play the Game. To run Neverwinter Nights, run ./nwn or ./dmclient from your install directory to run the player client or DM client respectively.
This probably means I will have to have a ~/nwn directory. Isn't it possible to install it as a normal package?

It is possible to make a package. If you're only installing the base game, this is not too much of a hassle. However... *grins*
If you're going to install the expansions as well (from seperate CD's, otherwise just look in AUR, there's a nie package there) it's a bit of a headache. And all files will end up in the ${whatever}/nwn directory anyways, so there's not much risk of conlficts... And removal is just a plain ol' rm -rf ${whatever}/nwn.
I dumped it in /opt/games, without making a PKGBUILD
Be sure to include hardware mouse cursor support and the fullscreen toggle patch for SDL to have a more pleasant experience (see this site for specifics)
Just dump your home-brew SDL lib somewhere in the ${whatever}/nwn/lib directory, so it doesn't interfere with the system-wide SDL. Here's my nwn batch to start the game:
    #!/bin/sh
    # This script runs Neverwinter Nights
    cd /opt/games/nwn
#cleanup nwmouse logfile if it exists
    [[ -f nwmouse.log ]] && rm nwmouse.log
    export SDL_AUDIODRIVER=alsa
    export SDL_MOUSE_RELATIVE=0
    export SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0
    export XCURSOR_PATH=`pwd`
    export XCURSOR_THEME=nwmouse
    # If you do not wish to use the SDL library included in the package, remove
    # ./lib from LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=./lib:./miles:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    export LD_PRELOAD=./nwmouse.so
    ./nwmain $@
