Liquid data type updates

Hi everyone,
With the next release (to go out on Monday) we're adding proper date format support in liquid for all modules. Besides all the improvements and additions made available with this release, one important note, which requires you to do some updates after the release, is that we're breaking backwards compatibility for liquid date tags by outputting the dates in ISO 8601 format ("yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:ss") instead of current format(“yyyy-MM-dd”).
Here is a brief overview of the changes:
All module fields which represent date or date times are now passed to Liquid as date time objects (previously they were passed as strings). This brings the following benefits:
Comparison between date time objects works correctly
It is possible to compute the difference between two date time objects using the minus filter. Example: {% assign dateDiff = Globals.Site.DateNow| minus: myDate %}
We added the means for obtaining the current date time: Globals.site.dateNow. The returned date is in the site’s time zone.
By default, when no filter is applied, all date variables will be output in the following ISO 8601 format: “yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:ss”. For example {{ myDate }} would output something similar to: “2014-12-12T07:19:49”. (Note: this is a backwards compatibility breaking change, as previously we outputted dates using the following format: “yyyy-MM-dd”. The breaking change only affects Liquid tags). Following the release, you should update your sites using the provided date filters to format the dates as you need.
The output of date time variables can be formatted using the following filters:
date (with no parameters)– displays a nice to read string representing just the date part from the date time variable. The date is formatted in the site’s culture. This compatible with the way older BC tags display dates. For example {{ myDate | date }}, in the English US culture will output a string similar to: “12-Dec-2014”.
datetime (new filter) – displays a nice to read string of the date time variable using the site’s culture. This compatible with the way older BC tags display date time. For example {{ myDate | datetime }}, in the English US culture will output a string similar to: “12-Dec-2014”.
date “format” (existing filter, nothing updated, mentioned here just for consistency) – displays the date in the site’s culture using a format specified by the format variable. The list with the available formats is available here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8kb3ddd4%28v=vs.110%29.aspx. Note that the date filter can also be used to format objects that result as a difference between two date time objects, however, in this case the format string will respect a different set of rules as defined here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee372287%28v=vs.110%29.aspx. The following example demonstrates how to display just the number of days in the difference between two dates: {{ Globals.Site.DateNow| minus: myDate| date: "%d" }}
We added the Convert filter which can be used for converting variables to a certain type. The syntax is: variable | convert: “type”. Below are the values supported by the type parameter:
“date” – converts a variable to a date time instance. We only support the following formats for strings that are converted to date time: “yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:ss” and “yyyy-MM-dd”.
“number” – converts a variable to a number instance. If converting from string, only period “.” is supported as a decimal separator. This filter will probably be most useful when trying to convert GET query parameters: {% assign pageNumber = Globals.get.pageNumber | convert: “number” %}. The previous example assumes that URL that loaded the page contains a parameter named pageNumber. The convert numeric filter is an alternative to the rather hack-ish approach of converting to numbers using mathematical operators: {% assign myNumber = variable | plus: 0 }. Please note that it is not recommended to use the convert numeric filter just to assign numeric constants. For example, this approach is not recommended: {% assign myNumber = “3.14” | convert: “number” %}. Use the following approach instead: {% assign myNumber = 3.14 %} (note the lack of quotes around 3.14 in the second example).
“boolean” – converts a variable to a boolean instance. Please note, that just as it is the case with numerics, it is not recommended to use the “boolean” filter for declaring a boolean constant. For example this is not recommended: {% assign myBool = “false” | convert: “boolean” %}. Use the following syntax instead: {% assign myBool = false %}
“string” – converts a variable to its string representation.
We added implicit casting to the most relevant type in comparisons and inside filters representing mathematical operations (plus, minus, times, divide, modulo). With implicit casting, if one of the two operands is of type string and the other is of a different type (for example numeric or date time), we will attempt to convert the string operand to the type of the other. The conversion will fail if the string is not in an appropriate format for the type it is converted to (same rules as in the Convert filter are applied). In comparisons, if the implicit casting fails, the comparison is made with both operands converted to strings. Additional notes:
Implicit casting allows using date time literals directly in comparisons if the other operand is of date time type. For example, this will work correctly since "2015-01"15" will automatically be converted to date time before making the comparison: {% if myDate > "2015-01-15" %}Some message{% endif %}
Date parts obtained using the date filter can be used directly in comparisons with numerics. For example:
         {% assign daysDiff = Globals.Site.DateNow| minus: myDate| date: "%d" %}
          {% if daysDiff < 10 %}
            A message
          {% endif %}
With the implementation of implicit casting we also fixed some rather funny bugs related to comparisons and mathematical operations. For example, previously, 5 < 5.5 was evaluated as false, but 5.5 > 5 was evaluated as true. Also the result of 5| plus: 5.5 was 10, but the result of 5.5| plus: 5 was 10.5 (now 10.5 is the result of both operations, as expected).
As a potential caveat, note that implicit casting will bring the operands to the relevant type only if one of them is actually of that type. If both operands are of type string, the comparison is made as of between strings. This means that following condition is evaluated as false {% if "3" < "15" %}, because as a string "15" is smaller than "3".
Implicit casting from string to numeric only works if the string represents just a numeric. If the string contains additional characters, like a currency symbol, the conversion will fail. For example, this will not work correctly {% "$15" < 20 %}. Our goal, in the next releases, is to update all modules containing price related tags to have them in plain numeric format.
We added the following filters for easily formatting numeric values representing prices.
number - displays numbers with a fixed number of two decimals using the decimal separator appropriate to the site's culture. For example, in the English US culture, {{ 99| number }} will display 99.00
currency - displays numbers in the same way as number but also inserts the currency symbol at the beginning of the returned value. The currency symbol respects the site's culture. For example, in the English US culture, {{ 99| currency }} will display $99.00
In the next release or releases, we're going to focus on fixing the remaining data types for modules.

Liam, the server date isn't helpful for converting timezones. We would need a direct date filter. With a filter for UTC and one for the user we should be able to do quite a bit from there.
The most powerful things that could be implemented for date time are the following:
• moment.js and Moment Timezone built into the filters.
• the ability to add time info into date time fields
But I know that's a tall order.

  • Date types update

    Dear CRM Guru,
    I have a requirement to update custom date types and an indicator. When a customer should receive an e-mail notification based on service ticket status (either ticket is open or close). When a user sent e-mail to contact person, the date types need to be updated. How I can accomplish this remedy? Your response is appreciated.

    Hi,
    Are you planning to send the e-mail using the action profile?
    If so, in the method that sends the e-mail maybe you can change it to calling a function that executes these changes in the document.

  • Using Calc Manager to update values for Members with Text Data Type

    Hi All,
    In my outline I have a member of text data type. The purpose is to allow users to be able to enter comments.
    Each line item is created through a business rule and I am prompting the user to enter the key values at the launch of the calc manager rules. I want to be able to prompt the user for the comments in the calc manager rule because I know that it supports variables of type string. However I am unable to assign this string variable directly to the member.
    I appreciate that essbase only stores numeric data and that all text data type members really store numeric values which are basically the id's of the text string stored in a relational table by planning. however I cannot update the database table through calc manager and then bring in the generated id. Is there any way I can do this?
    I don't want to skip this field in the calc manager rule and expect the user to enter the comments AFTER the line item has been created because the users want this to be a mandatory field and insist that a new line item not be created unless comments are specified.
    Many thanks in advance for any help I can get.

    If the comments are a set definition you could you smart lists in your planning forms.
    create this in your smart list
    xxxx = 1
    yyyy = 2

  • Issue with field data type NUMBER(22,5) while updating field data.

    Hi,
    I have a field with data type NUMBER(22,5).
    While inserting or updating field data it should take 17 digit and after decimal point 5 digit total 22 digit.
    I set 22 for maximumLength property of messageTextInput field.
    While updating field I am getting following problems,
    1) I provide the value as 1234567890123456789012 (22 digit) and click apply button.
    then I got error message as
    Error
    मैकेनाइजड दो पहिया/तीन पहिया वाहन - Value 1234567890123460000000 exceeds the maximum allowed value (NUMERIC (22, 5))
    2)then I insert 12345678901234567.1234 (17 digit before decimal point and 4 digit after decimal point and it didn't accept 5 digit after decimal point) and click apply button.
    It insert the value as 12345678901234600 (value changed after Apply)
    The I tried with simple SQL insert statement to insert data and it successfully insert 12345678901234567.12345 value.
    Any item property I missed here to set?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks & Regards,

    hi
    according to

    It insert the value as 12345678901234600 (value changed after Apply)"
    this statement ,it seems that it is definitely applying round or somthing like that function in the code before inserting value in the table("try with select round(12345678901234567.1234 ) from dual u will get the same result = 123456789012345600 ") ,
    bcz u r able to insert the same directely into the table using insert statement so kindely have look on the code if something like this is not happening there.try to check code in related EOimpl class
    try to to use debugging mode ,and the 23 char problem is related to maximum lenghth of text box make it 23 it will get resolved and u will be able to enter 17 digits with 5 digits after decimal point

  • Data type with large size in a table and updating it

    Hi guys,
    i am working on a requirement in which i need to create 4 tables. Here, 2 tables will be updated by the user and a program will update this content to the other 2 table.
    2 days before i posted a query on this, Previously i stucked on a part where, table need to entries with size char 400 and char 9000. As from the reply, i changed it to STRING with which table was sucessfully created and i was able to update data through a report program.
    Now we ned to provide an sm30 option to users, so they can insert new contents and update the status of old contents. But when i tried this table maintanance generator, i got an error that table contains string, so maintanance generator cannot be done ! i changed the data type to rawstring also. Now maintanance generator got saved, but when i open the table in sm30, i am getting dump saying tht table is using string/char etc.
    can anyone tell me what data type to use in this scenario with which we can enter data through sm30 ?

    Hi Kithu,
    you can use STRING (or XSTRING) fields. Then there is no limit on the field size. As long as it is not (fully) filled with data, no space is wasted.
    The disadvantage is that STRING type data are treated as 'deep' structures. That leads to some trouble in the definition of interfaces. Give it a try!

  • How to Update Date data type field value in oracle

    I want to update records in a table that has a Date data type field. It's a oracle databse. I use the oracle thin drive to connect to the database. The everything works well, only when i try to update records that have date type value, something doesn't work.
    I use the following stmt to update DB:
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    Conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostname:portnumber:schname", "uid","pwd");
    stmt=Conn.createStatement();
    String updStr = "UPDATE Article SET Archive = ' Disable' WHERE ArticleDate = # " + sqlDate +"# " ;
    stmt.executeUpdate( updAStr ) ;
    But I always got the SQLException run time error, which is "ORA-00911: invalid character"
    Who can help me to find out how to write the above Update statement correctly? esp. that how to present the Date type variable in the statement.!
    BTW, sqlDate is a Java.sql.Date variable, Is it "# " + sqlDate + "# " the right way?
    Many thanks

    What do you get out of Oracle's TO_DATE that java.sql.PreparedStatement.setDate()
    won't give you? - MODWell, I don't know that I've used all capabilities of either, but when it comes to managing Date Strings my Oracle bias :) would be to code using Oracle's TO_CHAR and TO_DATE functions. Perhaps someone can tell me vendor neutral ways to do something simiilar to managing these input date/times (and hopefully just as easily, pretty much all done in a single line, single function)?
    WHERE aDATE > TO_DATE('2010','YYYY')
    WHERE aDATE > TO_DATE('2010 AUG 22','YYYY MMM DD')
    WHERE aDATE > TO_DATE( 'January 15, 1989, 11:00 A.M.', 'Month dd, YYYY, HH:MI A.M.')
    I believe most databases have something similar to this, although I have found Oracle's to be the most flexible and consistent, if not the most intuitive. Other vendors (DB2, SQL Server, Access) don't force you to always be explicit, and can accept a variety of date strings without masks. The problem is that while you might not be getting an error, it also may not be parsing your date as expected.
    One could argue that this vendor specific hodgepodge of literal date/time strings is only one program modification away from disaster. They might be right.
    Just to be clear. I'm not recommending using a vendor specific approach, but it's not a perfect world and somtimes you have to use what works easiest or best or fastest, and in some cases, that is the vendor specific alternatives.

  • Urgent!!!----Update a field of Long data type via trigger

    While it is obvious that it is no way for an Oracle trigger to update a field of a Long data type, is it a feasible way to call a java stored procedure from the trigger to achieve that purpose? If not, can you suggest any good solution to this?
    Thanks so much.

    Scripter -
    When you try to do a Set and Put, it is always good to explicitly set the statement's cursor type to something other than forward only, like keyset, and the lock type to something other than read-only. See if that helps...

    Hi there,
    you can use your own classes as service method argument or return type. But you should not forget to do a type mapping on both the service and client side.
    I can tell you, how I am sending and receiving my own datatype called "FileBean" which is a simple JavaBean with getter() and setter() methods for the properties.
    I'm using axis for deployment and tomcat as the web server, where my service runs on (currently only local but in future this will be remote).
    Service class: "InstallationService.java"
    Bean class: "FileBean.java"
    Client class: "FileSaving.java"
    My deploy.wsdd file has the following entry:
    <beanMapping qname="myNS:FileBean"
      xmlns:myNS="http://packageDelarationBackwards"
      languageSpecificType="java:packageDeclaration.FileBean"/>
    ...The method header in my service:
    public FileBean storeAttachments(FileBean file)The important part of my Client:
    QName qnFileBean = new QName("http://packageDelcarationBackwards", "FileBean");
    call = (Call) service.createCall();
    call.setTargetEndpointAddress( new java.net.URL(endpointURL) );
    call.setOperationName(new QName("InstallationService","storeAttachments"));
    call.setReturnType(qnFileBean);
    call.registerTypeMapping(
                            FileBean.class,
                            qnFileBean,
                            new BeanSerializerFactory(FileBean.class, qnFileBean),
                            new BeanDeserializerFactory(FileBean.class, qnFileBean));
    ....After deploying the service and starting the server I can send my "FileBean", work with it and give it back.
    Hope this helped. If you need more information, just let me know.

  • Update Date types based on actions

    Hi Gurus,
    I have a requirement to update date types within a date profile based on a certain action condition.
    I have 3 date types:
    Downtime Start
    Downtime End
    Total Downtime Duration
    The priorities in my transaction have, x, y, z for example and x is default.
    Upon selecting y, the system should take into consideration the timestamp of this change and update the Downtime Start... The moment the priority is changed to anything other than "y", it should take this timestamp and update "downtime end".
    The difference between these two times would be the third date type.
    Any ideas how to proceed?

    Thanks,

    Yes Prathap, I need to update a single column of type number in the search results table.but each of that column value would be updated with different values like one row in that column will take a value 325 while another will take 500 etc based on user input.
    Your help in this is very much appreciated, Thanks in advance !

  • INSERT/UPDATE date type

    I'm using an Oracle 816 and Java 2.
    There is no problem with retrieving data from the tables. My problem is "INSERT date".
    Code snip:
    (java.util.)Date dtToday = new Date();
    String strSQL = "INSERT INTO MY_DB.TABLE1 " +
    "(COLUMN1, COLUMN2) VALUES (\"bluh\", " +
    dtToday + ")";
    myStmt.executeUpdate(strSQL);
    Would you please tell me what is the right way to insert a date type (any from java.util.Date, java.sql.Date, or oracle..DATE) to an Oracle 816 table that has a date column.
    Thank you very much in advance.
    Robin Luo

    Try to use prepared statement:
    PreparedStatement pstmt =
    conn.prepareStatement ("insert into TABLE1(COLUMN1, COLUMN2) values (?, ?)");
    pstmt.setString (1, "bluh");
    pstmt.setDate (2, dtToday);
    pstmt.execute ();
    null

  • Updating data types

    Hi,
    I have the following issue: I need to extend a complex data type with a new atomic field (a string) after I already used it within my process context and a business rule. Thus I changed the data type, deleted the context and reloaded the alias in the business process. In both cases the old data type without the new added string. What else do I have to do in order to make the changes visible to both the process and the business rule?
    Thank you for your support

    Hi ,
    thank you for you answer. I can't realy follow your explaination as it mentions Webdynpro.
    Maybe I should precise my problem a bit more (if you solution will help me please explain it once more to me
    I am working with a complex data dype in the Process Development perspective. When I add another field (lets say a string) to the complex datatype usually the dialog to reimport the xsd should appear
    (I am talking about the one which can bet put on and off under Preferences > Enterprise Service Modeling > Import and Reimport)
    However, although it is put on this dialog appear in one of my projects. It event appears if I do the changes to other projects but not in this particualar one. And as the reimport does not work the added field does not appear in the process context where I use the complex type.
    Is there a manual way to start the reimport manually?

  • Need to convert long data type to varchar2

    I need to convert a long datatype in an existing table to a
    varchar2, in either another table or view. I have a 3rd party
    application which needs to query the data in the long data type,
    but it can "handle" the long.
    What is the best way to do this? I tried to make a trigger, but
    I must be missing something. Here is the trigger.
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER "PROD".SV_GET_RTG_COMNT
    BEFORE INSERT OR UPDATE ON PROD.RELS_RTG_SEQ_COMNT
    FOR EACH ROW
    WHEN (OLD.rels_rtg_no = NEW.rels_rtg_no)
    DECLARE
    -- DECLARE VARIABLES
    RTG_COMNT_VAR VARCHAR2(32);
    RTG_COMNT_LONG LONG;
    BEGIN
    Select COMNT_TXT into RTG_COMNT_LONG
    from rels_rtg_seq_comnt;
    RTG_COMNT_VAR := 'TEXT' || substr(RTG_COMNT_LONG,1,32);
    -- If INSERTING
    Insert into SV_RTG_SEQ_COMNT (print_cd, comnt_no,
    seq_no, rtg_no, comnt_txt) values
    (:new.print_cd, :new.comnt_no, :new.seq_no, :new.rels_rtg_no,
    rtg_comnt_var);
    END;
    I tried to use the substr command on the comnt_txt in view but
    received an invalid datatype error.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    create another table with clob datatype
    1)create table clob_tab(pkval number,clob_col clob);
    2) insert into clob_tab (select pkval,to_lob(long_col) from
    long_tab);
    3) use dbms_lob package to do string manipulation using
    substr,instr functions on clob column.
