Live streams keeping alive

Hello, I'm using HTTP Administration API to poll for a list
of live streams and their status (getLiveStreams,
getLiveStreamStats). I'm doing it quite often (5-10 seconds), this
is part of server backend infrastructure. The problem is that it
seems to prevent live streams from terminations. I see lots of live
stream with empty <subscribers> list. When I stop polling and
pause for a minute or so, they disappear.
Any suggestions how to get relevant list of live streams and
their stats in a better way? How to fix existing solution, so it
doesn't prevent live streams from termination (I guess it consumes
extra system resources)? Any config parameter?

Hello, thanks for response!

You can write an application in Server Side ActionScript and
post this to Database or with XML.
What is the best/common way to access external DB from SS
Action Script?

This can run in the loop in some intervals. You can have one
central FMS server Application as a stats collector. This should be
quite efficient.
I haven't noticed any issue like you have described. Check
log files who is accessing the streams, maybe somebody is
publishing to your server and you don't even know about it.
No, I checked log files very carefully. And server is running
in controlled environment.

  • How to understand live stream is online

    Hi,
    First sorry about my english, i search my problem, but i couldnt find my answer,
    We have more then 80 live stream videos. More than 20 PC with capture cards, send cam streams to FSM with FME,
    Problems,
    PC can crush, capture card can crush, fme can crush, camera connection can crush,
    so with below code, i can unterstand if FMS server is alive, "NetConnection.Connect.Success"
    but is my stream  alive? How i can understand "1test1" is alive,
    for example i can unterstand with onMetaData info, if there is no meta info, no stream,
    but i am a noob, what is the true way to understand live stream is alive, meta info isn't true way i think
    i change var videoURL:String ="1test1" to a false value
    but no error i get, it never says "NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound":
    my goal is, i will make a web page, it will find all livestreams from xml, and cheack them, so systemadmin will see problem easly,
    last question, if there is a camera problem, livestream gives a blank black screen, can i understand automaticly  this screen
    var videoURL:String ="1test1"
    var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    nc.client = this;
    nc.connect("rtmp://myFMS/live/");
    nc.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStatusHandler);
    function netStatusHandler(event:NetStatusEvent):void{
    trace(" trace netStatusHandler: " +event.info.code);
    switch (event.info.code)
    case "NetConnection.Connect.Success":
    connectStream();
    break;
    case "NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound":
    trace("Stream not found: " + videoURL);
    break;
    function connectStream():void
    var vid:Video = new Video(640,480);
    var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
    ns.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStatusHandler);
    var meta:Object = new Object();
    meta.onMetaData = function(info:Object){
    trace("metadata: duration=" + info.duration + " width=" + info.width + " height=" + info.height + " framerate=" + info.framerate)}
    ns.client = meta;
    addChild(vid);
    vid.attachNetStream(ns);
    ns.play(videoURL);

    thanks, now i am able to understand what's your requirement.
    first you create a sample live chat application. just for testing purpose.
    1- create video object.;
    2- create camera object;
    3- attache camera object to video object;
    4- create a button and register a event and listener function write below code.
    5- download adobe.image.PNGEncoder class
    hope, you can capture photo from video object into you testing application
    package
        import com.adobe.image.PNGEncoder;
        import flash.display.Sprite;
        import flash.display.DisplayObject;
        import flash.events.*;
        import flash.display.Bitmap;
        import flash.display.BitmapData;
        import flash.media.Video;
        import flash.media.Camera;
        import flash.geom.*;
        import flash.net.FileReference;
        import flash.utils.ByteArray;
        public class SavePng extends Sprite
            private var cam:Camera;
            private var video:Video;
            private var ab:FileReference;

                cam.setMode(800,600,25);
                cam.setQuality(0, 90);
                video = new Video(1024,768);
                video .smoothing=true;
                video.attachCamera(cam);
                addChild(video);
                btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,saveImage);
                ab=new FileReference();
            private function saveImage(evt:MouseEvent):void
                var count:int = 0;
                var scaleW:Number = .5;
                var scaleH:Number = .5;
                var m:Matrix = new Matrix();
                m.scale(scaleW,scaleH);
                var bmd:BitmapData = new BitmapData(320,240,true);
                bmd.draw(video);
                var img:Bitmap=new Bitmap(bmd);
                img.x=250;

  • HDS live streaming to Flash not working

    Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5.5 r4013

    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/adobe-media-server/articles/live-multi-bitrate-video-http-flas h-ios.html
    Live streaming a single or multi-bitrate video over HTTP to Flash does not work. I have followed the instructions on the 2 sources listed above repeatedly, but I can’t get live streaming over HTTP to Flash to work. Live streaming to iOS over HTTP works with no problems (single and multi-bitrate streams).
    I have tried the troubleshooting steps from the following:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/devguide/WS0432746db30523c21e63e3d12efac195bd -8000.html
    Troubleshoot live streaming (HTTP)
    1.      Services window (Windows): Flash Media Server (FMS), Flash Media Administration Server, and FMSHttpd services are running. ✓
    2.      Verified that the request URL is correct. ✓
    3.      Configured ports:
    a.      Configure Apache to use port 80. Open rootinstall/Apache2.2/conf/httpd.conf in a text editor. Change the line Listen 8134 to Listen 80.
    b.     Configure Flash Media Server not to use port 80. Open rootinstall/conf/fms.ini in a text editor. Remove 80 from the ADAPTOR.HOSTPORT parameter so the parameter looks like the following: ADAPTOR.HOSTPORT = :1935 ✓
    4.      Placed a crossdomain.xml file to the rootinstall/webroot directory. ✓
    5.      In Flash Media Live Encoder, select the Encoding Options tab, choose Output from the Panel options menu, and verify the following:
    a) The value of FMS URL is rtmp://fms-dns-or-ip/livepkgr. If you’re testing on the same server as Flash Media Server, you can use the value localhost for fms-dns-or-ip. ✓
    b) For a single stream, the value of Stream is livestream?adbe-live-event=liveevent. ✓
    c) For adaptive bitrate streaming, the value of Stream is livestream%i?adbe-live-event=liveevent. ✓
    Flash Media Live Encoder uses this value to create unique stream names. To use another encoder, provide your own unique stream names, for example, livestream1?adbe-live-event=liveevent, livestream2?adbe-live-event=liveevent.
    The encoder is showing all 3 streams being published and streaming.
    6. Check Administration Console: the livepkgr application and the 3 streams are running. ✓
    7. Check the logs for errors. Flash Media Server logs are located in the rootinstall/logs folder. The master.xx.log file and the core.xx.log file show startup failures. Apache logs are located in the rootinstall/Apache2.2/logs folder. X
    a)   core00.log: these errors did not occur every time that I tried playing the live stream but these are the only relevant errors in the logs.
    1. 7968 (w)2611179     Warning from libf4f.dll: [Utils] [livestream2] Discarded all queued Media Messages received before first Video Keyframe Message
    2. 7968 (w)2611179     Warning from libf4f.dll: [Utils] [livestream3] Discarded all queued Media Messages received before first Video Keyframe Message

    2.     [warn] bootstrap path is in event file is empty for event:livepkgr/events/_definst_/liveevent stream name:livestream1
    As I mentioned, everything works on iOS and FMS seems to be creating all of the stream segments and meta files:
    a.     The 3 streams are being created in: HD:\Program Files\Adobe\Flash Media Server 4.5\applications\livepkgr\streams\_definst_
    b.    FMS is creating the following files in each stream folder (livestream1, livestream2, livestream 3):
    1. livestream1.bootstrap
    2. livestream1.control
    3. livestream1.meta
    4. .f4f segments
    5. .f4x segments
    The appropriate files are also being created in the HD:\Program Files\Adobe\Flash Media Server 4.5\applications\livepkgr\events\_definst_\liveevent folder, in which I have the following Manifest.xml and Event.xml files:
    <manifest xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/f4m/1.0">
      <media streamId="livestream1" bitrate="200" />
      <media streamId="livestream2" bitrate="500" />
      <media streamId="livestream3" bitrate="1000" />
    </manifest>
    <Event>
      <EventID>liveevent</EventID>
      <Recording>
    <FragmentDuration>4000</FragmentDuration>
    <SegmentDuration>16000</SegmentDuration>
        <DiskManagementDuration>3</DiskManagementDuration>
      </Recording>
    </Event>
    I’ve tried clearing the contents of both streams\_definst_ and events\_definst_\liveevent (keeping the xml files) after restarting the encoder, and creating a different event definst for the streams (liveevent2 for example).
    We have an event in 2 weeks that we would like to stream to both Flash and iOS. Any help in solving this problem will be greatly appreciated.

    One step closer:
    Changed the crossdomain.xml file (more permissive settings).
    Changed the encoding on FMLE to vp6. Working somewhat (don't know what I did to make it start streaming through hds).
    But at least now I can get the individual streams in the set manifest file to work:
    http://localhost/hds-live/livepkgr/_definst_/livevent/livestream1.f4m
    http://localhost/hds-live/livepkgr/_definst_/livevent/livestream2.f4m
    http://localhost/hds-live/livepkgr/_definst_/livevent/livestream3.f4m
    BUT when I try to play the streams through the set manifest file from http://localhost/liveevent.f4m I'm getting the following error:
    "The F4m document contains errors URL missing from Media tag." I'll search the forums to see if anyone else has come across this problem.
    I used the f4m config tool to make the file. These are the file's contents:
    <manifest xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/f4m/2.0">
      <baseURL>http://localhost/hds-live/livepkgr/_definst_/liveevent/</baseURL>
      <media href="livestream1.f4m " bitrate="200"/>
      <media href="livestream2.f4m " bitrate="500"/>
      <media href="livestream3.f4m " bitrate="1000"/>
    </manifest>
    Thanks

  • Unable to play Level3 live stream with OSMF v1.0

    Hi,
    I'm trying to play a live stream hosted by level3. When adding the mp4: prefix to my rtmp stream url I am able to connect but get a mediaError:
    "Failed to play  (stream ID: 1)".
    parallelElement.addChild(mediaFactory.createMediaElement(new URLResource(config.rtmpUrl)));
    rtmpUrl: rtmp://link-to-level3-server.net/app/mp4:name/streamname/live
    I've tested the same stream in flowplayer and jwplayer; both work like a charm. I've noticed that Level3 is listed as a planned CDN  provider on the osmf page. Do I have to wait for the level3 plugin to be released or am I missing someting here?

    I just found this post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2782150#2782150
    Adding a streamingURLResource like below doesn't give any mediaErrors.
    var resource:StreamingURLResource = new StreamingURLResource(config.rtmpUrl);
    resource.urlIncludesFMSApplicationInstance = true;
    parallelElement.addChild(new VideoElement(resource));
    I have to test it when I'm back at the office but it seems promising.
    Keep you posted!

  • Which port to use for the peer-keep alive

    Hi All,
    We have 2 Nexus 6001s in our data center.
    The management port of each 6001 is connected to the other and this link is used as the peer keep alive link.
    My colleague is suggesting that we use one of the inline data ports as the keep alive link.
    Can you please advise on the pros and cons of using management/inline port as keep live link and the best practise to follow in this case?
    Thanks,
    Pete

    Hi Pete,
    Here are the best recommendation in order of preference.
    1. Use mgmt0 (along with management traffic)
         * Pros: whats good on this option is you are totally separating the VPC Peer keepalive link on another VRF (management) and does not mingle with the data or global vrf..
         * Cons: VPC PKL is dependent on the OOB management switch.
    2. Use dedicated 1G/10GE front panel ports.
        * Pros - can just be a direct link between the N6K pair and not dependent on other boxes.
        * Cons - you need extra SFPs for VPC PKL while the VPC PKL traffic join the global VRF.

  • Issues while watching content after live streaming operation

    Hi,
    1)We have performed a live streaming of an event using Azure Media Services , we streamed the entire event
    which was of about 5-6 hrs duration . But at the end we came to know that it has streamed only last  1 hour of
    entire event.
    Can you let me know what might be the issue?
    2)We performed a live streaming of an event in 2 parts using azure media services. After 2 hours we stopped the streaming of 1st part and deleted the channel for 1st part and we started streaming of another part by creating another channel . We are unable to
    view the 1st part through content url while we are able to view the 2nd part through content url?
    Can you let me know what might be the issue?
    Thanks,
    Pushkar

    The fan is speeding up to cool the GPU. The GPU (graphic's chip) heats up because video's and game's work the GPU much harder than normal desktop activities.
    When was the last time you checked and cleaned the air intake grill on the bottom of your iMac?
    I shutdown (stopping the fans), disconnect the power and vigorously vacuum out the bottom grill work on my Mac's a couple of times a year to keep them running cool.

  • Simple HTML example on how to display a live stream?

    Hi all
    Is there anyone who has a HTML example (or can give an URL with a page) that has the Adobe Flash player displaying a live stream (and not a file)?
    There is one in the installation under "Flash Media Server Start Screen" but it was too complex for me to understand. I just need a simple example on how to display a live flash stream in Adobes own web player.
    Thank you very much :-)

    Hi,
    Here is the html code.
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Flash Media Player</title>
    </head>
    <object width="550" height="400">
    <param name="movie" value="player.swf">
    <embed src="somefilename.swf" width="550" height="400">
    </embed>
    </object>
    </body>
    </html>
    And here is the action script code of player.swf.
    import flash.net.NetConnection;
    import flash.events.NetStatusEvent;
    import flash.net.NetStream;
    import flash.media.Video;
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    import flash.media.Camera;
    startBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,mouseHandler);
    var nc:NetConnection;
    var ns:NetStream;
    var vid:Video;
    var cam:Camera=Camera.getCamera();
    function mouseHandler(evt:MouseEvent){
        nc=new NetConnection();
        nc.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS,statusHandler);
        nc.connect("rtmp://localhost/sample");
    function statusHandler(evt:NetStatusEvent){
        trace(evt.info.code);
        if(evt.info.code=="NetConnection.Connect.Success"){
            ns=new NetStream(nc);
            ns.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS,streamHandler);
            ns.play("LiveStream");
            vid=new Video();
            vid.attachNetStream(ns);
            vid.height=400;
            vid.width=600;
            addChild(vid);
    function streamHandler(evt:NetStatusEvent){
        trace(evt.info.code);
    Please do the following before using the actionscript code:
    Add a button called start in fla and keep its instance name startBtn.
    create an application called sample in FMS and publish a live stream called "LiveStream".

  • FMS 3.0.4 - Possible to have captions with live stream?

    Is it possible to have captions with a live stream? I can do it just fine with a VOD stream, but have been unable to figure out how to do it with a LIVE stream, if it's even possible.

    So you are saying your custom video player shows no video playback but in same set up Stock video Component which you are talking about works fine. Is the server under your control? I mean did you try debugging your custom video player - when you say there is no video playback - do you see connection is still alive or connection closes. Is there anything logged in FMS logs to indicate any issue - check application logs of App you are connecting and also other logs like core/edge/master logs.

  • Quicktime live streams stop and then repeat

    Hi, I'm using firefox 2.0.0.11 and Quicktime 7.3.0
    I'm trying to listen to a live stream from a radio station that is a .wax live stream. Everything works fine, however, when the playback marker reaches the right side of the quicktime screen, the stream stops and it returns to the beginning and repeats what it's just played. I'd really like to listen to the whole stream until I decide to stop it. Can anyone help?
    Simon

    The same thing happened to me, EXCEPT, for me, I realized that if I NEVER touch the controller during the live stream it doesn't stop and loop. It keeps going until the feed ends.
    For me, it ONLY stops and loops if I try to use the controller while viewing the live stream.
    This is certainly not a fix, but a possible temporary solution for some, while Apple works on fixing this BUG.

  • ITunes Festival live streaming not working

    Every time I go to the iTunes Festival page in the iTunes Store I keep getting the message of:
    "This computer does not support iTunes Festival live streaming."
    Why not? Does it only work with apple computers (not windows)?  I wanna watch Paul Simon!!   =D
    -Michael

    Lucky for you skalarocks. It's 16th and I still cannot access any of the previosu concerts on iTunes!
    I contacted customer support who advised
    "I have done some research for you and found that there is a delay in the on demand streaming. "
    And then directed me here. I think I am leaning towards an earlier comment about Apple Techs not having a clue.
    I suppose they are giving it away so there is no profit in it they wont want to support a fix. Not goign to that much trouble after all skalarocks

  • Live stream problem with FMS 4.5 + FMLE

    Hi,
    I've got a live stream (and DVR) setup using FMS 4.5 and FMLE.
    The hardware for the FMS server we use is 2x Xeon E5645 2.4GHz, 32GB RAM, OCZ RevoDrive R3 X2 PCI-e SSD. Installed OS is CentOS 5.8.
    We have 6 workstation PCs, each equiped with 4 BlackMagic Intensity PRO capture cards and FMLE 3.2. Using these PCs we stream Live video to FMS server.
    Video stream is grabbed from HDMI cable, to BlackMagic Cards, which are encoding by FMLE using H.264 format, 700kbps bitrate per stream.
    Video stream is published to server through RTMP stream, which is later saved for DVR in RAW format. We only keep 3 days of recording and delete the old ones.
    Server and Encoder PCs are in the same network, connected by gigabit managed switch.
    The problem I'm having is that after 10-15 hours FMLE starts to drop frames, because video buffer is increased. What I observed is that this happens immediately when Server CPU load increases above 60%.
    Based on the above observation I decreased the number of channels streamed by the server to 10, which reduced CPU load. But the problem still persists.
    Whenever I restart FMS and delete all DVR data, the CPU load (when streaming 10 live channels) is only 1%, but after 2 days CPU load increases to 50-60%.
    Whenever I restart FMS and don't delete DVR data, the CPU load is 5-10%, and after 2 days it still increases to 60-70%.
    Another thing I observed is that there is only single fmscore process running, but it has lots of threads which are switched on and off in split seconds. These threads are launched on different CPU cores, but at any given point in time the distribution of the load isn't equal among CPU cores. This leads certain CPU cores being loaded by more than 60% and frame drops start to occur.
    For the moment there are just 10 users watching this service, so I don't think this load accounts for the problem.
    Has anybody had similar problem, or know how can I optimize or finetune the system to run without problem? I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Another thing I noted through last couple of days:
    When I was restarting FMS the CPU load was reduced to 30%, but after 1 week past when I restart it CPU load only goes down to 75%. Everything is the same, nothing has been changed and there is no disk IO issues involved.
    P.S. I've modified application.xml using these values:
    <Scope>vhost</Scope>
    <Distribute numprocs="5">app</Distribute>
    <LifeTime>
    <RollOver></RollOver>
    <MaxCores></MaxCores>
    </LifeTime>

    Hi
    How many channels are you publishing?
    If there are too many channels, it is recommended to have one  FMSCore process start for each of them. To do so, you will have to change the scope to app.
    ---snippet---
    <Application>
    <Process>
        <Scope>app</Scope>
       <Distribute numprocs="3">inst</Distribute>
    </Process>
    </Application>
    Also, to delete older content, you will have to enable disk management. Refer http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/devguide/WSeb6b7485f9649bf23d103e5512e08f3a33 8-8000.html#WSec225f632fa00875-23954b6f1300b641158-8000 for more info.

  • Live Streaming from static video file

    Hi everybody,
    I'm using Amazon Cloud & Flash MMedia Server 4.5.
    I would like to take one of my exits videos (a static file), and turn it into a live stream. People can view this video (synchronous). I'm using Flash Media Live Encoder 3.2, but it only capture video from devices as camera...
    How I can do it?
    Cheers.

    Hi Huy,
    Please find the zip attached where I have written the scripts for you to deploy on your local FMS server, in context of option 2:
    You may like to follow these steps:
    1. unzip the folder.
    2. deploy FLVpublishonLoad (in case your recorded file is a FLV use case) on your lcoal server
    3. deploy toPublish on your remote aws server
    4. make sure to correct the path for aws in FLVPublishonLoad application @ line#19:
    // Please mention your aws instance hostname instead of localhost , and application name ....
    nc.connect("rtmp://localhost/toPublish");
    5. go to admin console of your local development server and load the instance of FLVPublishonLoad as shown in the howtoLoadfromAdminConsole.png image attached for refrence purpose.
    6. it will automatically connect to the "toPublish" app on your remote server and start publishing your local vod file as a live stream to your aws instance
    7. start your subscriber app and subscribe to the stream you have used in FLVPublishonLoad app for Stream.get() method, see line#29 and the subscriberScreenExample.png file attached for the illustration purpose.
    few points to note here:
    1. I have removed the sample.flv and "sample1_1500kbps.f4v" for keeping the zip size lower.
    2. You need to put your stream name at line#55 where you call mystream.play()
    3. The stream name that you specify in Stream.get() will be used by subscribers.
    4. if your use case is mp4, then please use "MP4PublishonLoad" instead of "FLVPublishonLoad" application.
    =============
    As I am unable to attach the files here therefore copy-pasting the code for you and others to be re-used:
    =======
    main.asc code for FLVPublishonLoad:
    var nc;
    var ns;
    application.onAppStart = function()

  • Creating a custom player for live streaming video

    I have live streaming video set up where I use the Flash Media Encoder to send the live stream to a Flash Media Server. Then, the Flash Media server packages this stream, and sends it to whatever websites requests it via the url. I know how to create a Flash move or even asc file, and then have Flash generate the html for that saved movie so that I can embed it in a web page and play it. But in the case of live streaming video, there is no pre made asc file or movie to reference. So I need some help about what I need to do to play live streaming video in a flash player embedded in a webpage, that will also have some custom action script for controlling playback and other things.

    About a half-hour after making the changes I outlined above, and long after I closed the active Safari window, noticed that my MBP was uncharacteristically hot. Extremely hot!
    Opened Activity Monitor and saw that Flash Player was still running (?) and using a tremendous amount of system resources. I then quit Safari altogether. Within moments, the heat began to subside.
    May be something you want to keep an eye on...

  • Audio sync in live streaming

    I'm using FME 2.5 + FMS 3.0.2, in live streaming. When I set
    NetStream buffertime to some value like 0.1 on flash player, it
    works fine. But if I set buffertime to 0, audio is not sync.(audio
    is faster than video) In this situation, livedelay is about
    0.2~0.3. I use H.264, main profile encoding, video size is 720X480,
    encoder machine CPU usage is below 60%.
    Chang

    It is advised to keep the buffertime >=0.1. This is a
    known issue and is documented in FME's Read Me.

  • Fms live stream server stops sending data around 4+hrs

    Hi,
    I am having some issues with fms servers livestream connection. My rtmp client connects to the server ok and rtmp data flowing ok for about 4hours, in the wireshark trace I can see that the server just stops sending data roughly after 4hours. The server version is 3.5.1, and I also try it on a 4.0 server the data stops coming from the server as well after 5+hours. There are no errors or any indication of session disconneciton in the diagnostic logs.  I have also looked thru the settings in applicaiton.xml and server.xml I just don't see any obviious reason for the issue. I do send rtmp Acknowledgement to server after the client receives "window size" bytes, and the client sends ping response to server.  Are there any other that client needs to send back to server? It would be greatly appreciated for any pointers and help. Thanks.

    Updates:
    An interesting observation is that the server stops transmitting data when server-to-client bytes reaches ~4G. The number sounds too much like a system resource limitation. It is a live stream and it is not being recorded so I am not sure where is the 4G limitation coming from. FLVCACHE_MAXSIZE is for recorded stream, I think, and it is set to the default 500MB.
    Also, in the access log the check point for connect-continue and play-continue keep showing status of 100, which is supposed to be "Waiting for the application to authenticate.". Is this correct? The connection is successfully connected and play command is successful as shown in the access log. swfVerification is disabled in application.xnl. what does the server waiting for in respect to authentication?
