Load balancing and Application Server

Hi guys,
IHAC who have EBS + Kofax + OUCM (Oracle UCM) and needs to purchase load balancers for the installations. He is between Cisco and Radware load balancers and he says that Radware's ones have a module for Oracle Applications.
Do yo have any idea/experience/recommendation/advice with these load balancers?
Any help will be appreciated,
Dani

I'm pretty sure F5 Networks has the most comprehensive scope to support Oracle AS environments with Oracle health monitors, Advanced LB Algorythms and methods, SSL Offload and Acceleration, Web Acceleration, Sticky Persistence, URL URI rewriting and loopbacks... • Advantages of using a webserver inbetween a load balancer and application servers

I am building out a new weblogic domain.
I am wondering which one of these configuration to go with:
    1. Load balancer > weblogic servers
    2. Load balancer > web server > weblogic servers
Could someone tell me what are the specific advantages of having web servers inbetween a load balancer and application servers (besides caching static data content and acting as a proxy)?
    Thanks in advance
    Srini

Other than hosting the static content, nothing much really.   We have our load balancer go straight to WL for applications without static content and route to web server if there is static content.   Easy enough to do it both ways, best of both worlds.

  • Load balancing between application server and database

    Hi,
is there any load balancing between the application server and the database? Consider we have a single instance of an application server that sends database queries from different clients to the database. Are the requests queued in some way at the application server, allowing to control the flow of the queries (e.g. queries from "more important" clients might be sent with a higher priority)?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Victor/Jim/Volker,
Thanks a lot for all the responses..
Just wanted to let you guys know that my installation finished successfully.
The thing which confused me was that my Qtime, Qdate and everything else was showing correct values..
Well, my problem I set the environmental variable PASE_TZ to the EST time zone on a SYS level using WRKENVVAR>F4>SYS and added the variable. I logged off and the sidofr logged off, but one user which should have logged off and didn't was the "SAPINST"(my installation user) which was logged in the subsystem TMKSVR00.
Even when I had closed the SAPINST installlation program, the user doesn't log off...it just sits there until and unless u shut him out of the system using the option 4 on wrkactjob for ending the JOB(SAPINST logged in the system below the TMKSVR00 subsystem)
So since the SAPISNT user never logged of, his environmental variables were not initilized properly, even after the changes...
This thought came to me almost after a 6 hours of wasting my time searching for notes here and there...
I think when u end/stop the install in SAPINST, the SAPINST user should log off the AS400 system, but I have noticed, it never does...although when u restart the installation, if u have noticed it shows you the log on for the SAPINST user in the TMKSVR screen...
Its kind of buggy, I would say...
I have noticed, that even when I log on to AS400 from home or from a remote PC using Emulator, it shows me logged in the subsystem and even after i have logged of, it still shows me there...
Anyway, thanks a lot guys...for all your responses..
Just wanted to let you know all.
    Thanks

  • Load balancing on RMI Server Application

Hi there, I'd like to know more detail about load balancing on RMI server application, been digging the web for some time, but couldn't find much information, does anyone know any website or has the knowledge of load balancing on RMI to share? Sort like its design and implementation.
    Thanks,
    Jax

    I want performance and fault-tolerance,
In that case, is it necessary to have a main
rmi server to allow client to access and pick one of
the rmi servers for the client?Well, if you have one main RMI server, you have a single point of failure again.. Why can't your application know about all rmi servers, and randomly choose one? If it's down, pick a different one.. If your applicatoin is an applet, you'll have to sign it.. Do that and put it on 2 redundant web servers. You have performance by splitting the load and you have your fault tolerance by having x identical rmi servers.
If you're saying what I think, why would you have one main rmi server that picks a different rmi server? That's more work AND your redundancy goes byebye, ie if your main rmi server dies..

  • How to remove farm account from Application Discovery and Load Balancer Service Application

    Hello Community
Using Sharpoint 2010 Server I think the reason
the User Profile Synchronization would stop is because somehow the farm
account was registered as a managed account.  So I removed the farm
account from all services that ran under the farm account so that I could
run Remove-SPManagedAccount or click the Remove icon in manage service accounts
and then unregisted farm account as a managed account.
But before I can run Remove-SPManagedAccount I need to remove it from one more
service account that uses the farm account which is:
"Application Discovery and Load Balanceer Service Account".
However, nothing seems to remove it from there.
        I tried :
    "get-spserviceapplication | where {$_.TypeName -match "Application Discovery and Load Balancer Service Application"}
        and then
    "stop-spserviceinstance "dde7fbef-b068-4687-bedb-f67230efab5a"
amongst a host of other methods so that I could ultimately
unregister farm account as a managed account.
But no matter what I do when I try to remove the farm account from Application Discovery
    and Load Balancer Service Application
and then unregister the farm account as a managed account a message always says
"Application Discovery and Load Balancer Service Application" is using the farm account
    as its service account.
What can I do to free the farm account from Application Discovery and Load Balancer Service Application?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

The Farm Account is always a Managed Account and can never be "unmanaged". You don't have to set the automatic password roll.

  • Load Balancing and WLS primary server offset

I've got a load balancer in front of my WLS cluster, and I'm trying to
set up load balancing based on WLS clustering. What I need to know to
do this is the offset within the cookie that's responsible for
determining which machine within the cluster to direct to.
Any idea how I can get this information?

In Memory session replication doesn't work without our plugins. I will have to
do little bit of investigation to figure out if other persistence mechanism's
would work without our plugins if you are interested in them. I have to remind
you though that other types of persistence mechanism's we support are slower

Currently none. We are taking steps to make the plugin's and cluster more
robust, we currently don't have any plans to work with other 3rd party vendors.

This information is saved in the cookie. But I wouldn't count that, as we
have plans to change this. I cannot give your more details.

  • CSS Load balancing for Exchange Server

    Hi,
I have CSS configured in single arm and I have multiple servers configured for load balancing and it is working fine but when I am configuring Exchange server for load balancing I am facing problem and applications and printer/scanners are not able to send the email through the Virtual IP address configured for exchaneg server.
But if we configured the real server IP in the printer/scanners they are able to send the email. While checking the logs on the exchange server, it is showing that request for the email so coming from the Exchange VIP configured in the CSS.
I can telnet on port 25 on the VIP address (192.168.200.237). But unable to send the email through this VIP.
    Below is the configuration
    service ENOC_EXCHANGE-1

Please let me know how to solve this problem. System team is saying with the physical IP address it is working fine problem with Load balancing. I have even tried with the
Add service command in the group but didnt work for me. If i will remove the group command then I cant telnet on port 25.
I think this is related to single arm modle or some wrong configuration for the NAT.
    Kindly assist me

    Hi
Printers are on Vlan 80 ( gw is 192.168.80.1) and exange server is on vlan 200 (gw is 192.168.200.1) i have multiple vlan which will communcate with exchange.
I hv other servers on 200 subnet which are working fine in load balancing.
My CSS is single arm setup.

  • Load balancing and rfc metadata repository in reciever rfc communication ch

    hi.
i want to know the purpose of load balancing and rfc meta data repository in RFC communication channel.
and can u send me any examples on this load balancing.
    waiting for your response.
    bye.
    regards.
    seeta ram.

    Hi Seeta Ram,
Load distribution is handled by the message server (there is one message server in an SAP System). When a user logs on, the message server assigns him or her to the application server that currently has the <b>smallest load</b>.
Well now you can understand that we use load balancing for better performance by distributing the work to different processes to balance or maintain the work load in SAP system.

i have read this link of Enabling Clustering on oc4j9.0.4 standalone app server
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/docs/tech/java/oc4j/htdocs/getstart.htm#1015479
To test the clustering, start up the load balancer by executing "java -jar loadbalancer.jar".

In a future release of Oracle Application Server, loadbalancer.jar will be
desupported. Because of this, we strongly suggest that you discontinue your use
of loadbalancer.jar in this release. Under high loads, loadbalancer.jar may not
function properly. For a true load balancing and high-availability solution,

  • Load balancing and High Availability topology

Our Forms 6i client-server application currently runs on Citrix farm of 20 Windows 2000 boxes (IBM Blade Servers 2 CPU and 2 Gig Memory).
    Application supports 2000 users.
We are moving to AS 10g r2, forms 10g and the goal is to use same hardware, 20 Windows boxes (or less), for intranet web deployment.
What will be our best choices for application Load balancing and High Availability?
Hardware load balancer, Web Cache, mod-oc4j? Combinations?
Any suggestions, best practices, your experience?

Gerd, I understand, that you are running 10g web forms through the browser, but using Citrix for deployment. This means that in addition to Application Server and Forms runtime sessions, it will be separate browser session opened for each user. What the advantage of this configuration?
Michael, we are aware, that Citrix is not supported by Oracle as a deployment platform. That only means that prior contacting Oracle Support we have to reproduce the problem in standard environment. It was never been a problem to reproduce problem :) We were using Citrix as a deployment platform for Forms 6i client/server for 4 years, but now we are forced to upgrade to 10g.
We are familiar with various Load balancing options available. The question is which option is the most "workable" in our case.

  • Load balancing UDP application in ACE

    Hi all,
What's the proper way to load balance a UDP application (NTP protocol) using ACE? We used to do it in our CSS using a content to load-balance and a source group to source-NAT the UDP replies from the servers to the VIP. I guess this should be implemented using NAT in the ACE, but I can't find any example.
According to the manual, src-natting to VIPs is supported only in A1(8) and it is supposed to be used "when there is a limited number of real-world IP addresses on the client-side network".
This is not our case, we just need to ensure that the client receives the UDP replies as coming from the VIP, not from real IP address of the server. This is not a problem in TCP-based applications, because the NAT from the rserver IP to the VIP is automatic. What is the proper way to obtain this behaviour for UDP applications? Thanks a lot!
    Regards,
    Pedro

    Pedro,
reverse nating is not required in ACE world.
    This is done automatically.
So, the server response will be automatically nated to the vip address when going back to the client.
If you have an appliance and are just deploying now, I would recommend version A3(2.1).
If you have a module go for A2(1.3).

  • Load balancing and transparent failover in RAC 11g

    Hi,
The only way to configure load balancing and transparent failover in RAC 11 g R2 is using the clauses LOAD_BALANCING and FAILOVER on the tnsnames.ora of application server. Is that correct?

If the database is admin-managed, I shall suggest that rather than playing with the remote_listener parameter , set one service as preferred for one instance. For the other service, let it be preferred on both the nodes. The service with just one instance as Preferred won't be able to use loab-balancing as there is just one instance available for its disposal.

  • Network Load Balancing and failover for AFP Sharing

    Dear all,
Somebody kindly teach me to use round robin DNS to perform the network load balancing, it's success but not the failover.
I have 4 xserve and want to do the load balancing and failover at the same time.
I have read the IP failover document and setup it successfully, but anyone know is it possible to do the IP failover for more than 2 server?
For example, 4 server serving the AFP service at the same time, maybe I have 1 more extra server to do the IP failover for thoese 4 servers.
As I know, IP failover require Firewire as the heartbeat detection. But one xserve only have 2 firewire ports. May I setting up the IP failover only by a ethernet port and an IP address? does it possible to detect and failover to any server after server down has been detected?
I believe load balancer maybe the best solution but its cost is too high.
    Thanks any advance!
    Karllee

well, u have 2 options here
    software load balancing
request comes it foo.com -> ws7u2 hosting foo.com is configured to run as reverse proxy . this server sends any incoming requests to one of the four back end web server 7 handling your incoming request
hardware load balancing (this you need to invest)
request comes to hardware load balancer who responds for foo.com -> sends requests to four ws7 server hosting your application
you could try out how software load balancing works out for you before you invest in hardware load balancing
here is more instruction on configuring ws7 + reverse proxy (software load configuration)
    - install ws7 on foo.com
    - create a new configuration (choose port 80, disable java

  • Cisco Load balancer and Web Dispatcher to the same portal

    Hello Experts,
We have implemented intranet portal with Cisco as the load balancer. Now we need to expose this intranet to the outside world as an extranet portal. So the same portal will be accessed from both intranet and from outside. We are thinking of installing a web dispatcher in the DMZ so that outside users can access the Web Dispatcher URL to access the intranet portal. In effect intranet users will use load balancer and extranet users will use Web Dispatcher to access the same portal. Now my question is if we configure Load Balancer and Web Dispatcher to the same portal, will the portal be able to load balance properly? Is this the right approach?
    Thank You,
    mansooralip1

    Dear Andrew,
We need to provide access to our intranet to some outside companies for them to also use some of our portal applications. As per your answer, I understand that I can configure Web Disptacher to talk to the Cisco Load Balancer of our portal. In this case Web Dispatcher will work just as a reverse proxy. But when I discussed this with one of our basis resource, he told me that when we install and configure Web Dispatcher, it always ask for the Message Server URL and Port number, even if I just want to use Web Dispatcher as a Reverse Proxy. If his concerns are valid, I do not think I will be able to configure Web Dispatcher to access the cisco Load Balancer because I cannot put Cisco load banacer URL and port instead of the Message Server URL and Post Number. Can you kindly share your comment on the same?
Now the second part of my question, if Web Dispatcher cannot be configured to talk to Load Balancer(as mentioned by our basis resource), I will have to use two load balancers. One web Dispatcher in DMZ as a Load Balancer *** Reverse Proxy for the external users. Second the internal Cisco Load Balancer for the intranet users. So the same portal will be accessed by two load balancers. My question here is, in this set up, can the portal work efficieintly here by distributing equal loads two both the server instances?
    Thank You,
    mansooralip1

  • Load Balancer and SSL

What is the correct/recommended way to configure ssl through the load balancer with the DS or DPS? I see 3 options:
    1. SSL termination at the load balancer level
    2. using wildcard certs
    3. specifying the subjectAlternativeName in the cert.
I am currently looking at using 2 or 3 and have some questions. 2 seems like the best option and makes it more seemless to applications if you bring in an additional backend server, then you dont need to load any other certs for any applications.
For option 3 how can you specify the subjectAlternativeName when generating a CSR? I dont see anyway of doing that except mentioned here . I see in the Access Manager [docs |http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-5899/gcdvv?l=ru&a=view] to specify the Subject DN as the load balancer name. Will this work correctly without have the subject DN as the FQDN of the DS/DPS?

I'm not sure your 3 options are mutually exclusive. We're going to be doing a combination of 1 and 2. We're going to purchase a wildcard certificate and put it on our load balancer. The SSL traffic will terminate at the load balancer and go straight LDAP from the load balancer to the DS host.
