Loading an Image With AS3

Hi;
I have this code:
        function LoadLogo():void
            parent_container = new Sprite();
            addChild(parent_container)
            var path:String = "images/logo.png";
            var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(path);
            var loader:Loader = new Loader();
            loader.load(req);
            loader.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, function(e:IOErrorEvent):void{ trace(e) });
            loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, LoadedLogo);
            trace('xxx');
        function LoadedLogo(evt:Event):void
            var loaderInfo:LoaderInfo = evt.target as LoaderInfo;
            var displayObject:DisplayObject = loaderInfo.content;
            displayObject.width = 175;
            displayObject.height = 175;
            parent_container.addChild(displayObject);
            parent_container.x = 20;
            parent_container.y = 20;
Works fine in another file, but not here. The trace prints. The error never does...even when the path is deliberately incorrect. The trace doesn't print if it's in the first line of LoadedLogo. No error is ever thrown. Huh? Please help.
TIA,
beno

OK. Revised code:
        function LoadLogo():void
            parent_container = new Sprite();
            addChild(parent_container)
            var path:String = "images/logo.png";
            var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(path);
            var loader:Loader = new Loader();
            loader.load(req);
            loader.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, ioErrorHandler);
            loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, LoadedLogo);
            trace('xxx');
        function LoadedLogo(evt:Event):void
            var loaderInfo:LoaderInfo = evt.target as LoaderInfo;
            var displayObject:DisplayObject = loaderInfo.content;
            displayObject.width = 150;
            displayObject.height = 150;
            parent_container.addChild(displayObject);
            parent_container.x = 20;
            parent_container.y = 20;
            Navigation(' Home ','index.html',269,0xffffff);
            Navigation(' Why Us? ','Why.html',330,0xffffff);
            Navigation(' Our Team ','Our_Team.html',410,0xffffff);
            Navigation(' Government Projects ','Government.html',497,0xffffff);
            Navigation(' About Us ','About_Us.html',656,0xffffff);
            Navigation(' Contact Us ','Contact_Us.html',735,0xffffff);
            XMLLoader();
        function ioErrorHandler(event:IOErrorEvent):void {
            trace("ioErrorHandler: " + event);
Please advise how to add the ErrorEventListener to the contentLoaderInfo (maybe an example?).

  • [advance question] loading a swf in adobe Air, which loads an image with "componentloader"

    Good evening all,
    I think this is a complex issue.
    I have adobe air application which loads a SWF I made.
    Inside this SWF I have used the "component LOADER" to load
    something with "ContentPath=image.jpg" for example.
    But the swf loaded in the Adobe air works, but does not load
    the "ContentPath image"...
    (it does load and display it when it this swf is run outside
    adobe Air)
    I need it to be dynamic like this, so if eventually I Include
    it in the package it won't help much...
    I just intend to replace an image background from this loaded
    swf file!
    Thanks!
    Edit:
    At this time of the editing, I fear and realize
    something....I have been using Actionscript2 for the .SWF file,
    could it be why it does not works???
    If its problematic, is there a simple way like telling it to
    read actionscript2, rather than transforming everything??
    edit2:
    I found this on the official AIR FAQ:
    Will Flash version 8 and below SWF files run in Adobe AIR?
    Yes. However, the Adobe AIR APIs are only exposed to Flash
    content via ActionScript 3 / AVM2, and thus Flash 8 / AVM1 SWFs
    will be able to run, but they will not have direct access to the
    Adobe AIR APIs.
    source:
    source
    faq Adobe
    it seems it should works!!??
    Edit3:
    nope I confirm at least some code made in Actionscript2
    works.
    I am sure this code needed to be changed for working in
    actionscript3, so "actionscript2" code works in Adobe Air.
    The problem of not loading my image must come from something
    else!!??

    Good Morning all!
    Hilarious....
    I tried so much to think maybe Adobe Air does not like a SWF
    using actionscript2, or it does not load any "external image from a
    swf", etc...
    None of that!
    I just in FLASH in the ComponentLoader....I did put simply
    the ContentPath at "myimage.jpg"....
    Of course I had to use the absolute path like
    "c:\\myfolder\\myimage.jpg"
    Of course aswell it works now!!!

  • Problem Loading an Image with javax Swing from a JApplet

    First of all, i use JCreator as java creater and have the newest version of java sdk version.
    Now i need to load an image from the harddrive on which the JApplet is located. I need to do this from inside the JApplet. I have put my pictures in a map 'images' which is located in the same directory as the classes + htm file. It works from inside JCreator, but as soon as i open the normal htm it just WON'T load that image (grmbl).
    Here is my code for loading the image:
    public BufferedImage loadImage (String filename, int transparency)
         Image image;
         if (app)
              image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(("./images/"+filename));
         else
              String location = "";
              location = "./images/"+filename;
              image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(location);
         MediaTracker mediaTracker = new MediaTracker(new Container());
         mediaTracker.addImage(image, 0);
         try
              mediaTracker.waitForID(0);
         catch (Exception e)
    Could anybody help me out here??
    I tried a url already using getCodeBase() or getDocumentBase() but that gives an error because it cannot find those if using a JApplet.

    Why don't you use javax.swing.ImageIcon? If you already have a flag telling if it's an application or applet, use the getDocumentBase() to base the URL in the applet part only.

  • Load/Import images with Lingo in "running time"

    I would like to do the following:
    When I start a Shockwave application on my website, I want to
    load an images from the server and include it in my movie.
    How can I do it? (The image is not initially on the movie).
    On the other hand (this one is more difficult): If I have a
    3D scene: Can I put such image in a wall of my 3D scene
    dynamically?
    Thank you a lot.

    To load an external image in your movie, you can set the
    .fileName property of a bitmap member. It would help to preload the
    image file, so that it is available locally before setting the
    filename. Look up preloadNetThing().
    To show an image on a wall in a 3D scene, you need to make
    the image into a texture, make the texture part of a shader, and
    use that as the shader of the wall mesh. Here's a movie that does
    something like that, using images already available in a castLib:

  • Simlpe way to load an image with URL link into iOS with AIR

    I want to be able to display an image (basically a small banner) inside my iPhone game which is loaded from my server where I can advertise new games.
    What's the best way to do this?
    Are there any technical issues I should be aware of?
    Does it fall foul of any of Apples policies?
    Thanks for any advice.

    It's not at all against policy but you do need a backup plan for devices without connectivity. Package a default banner to load if there is no internet access.
    Apple does not require you to ask the person permission to use the internet (like Android does). You're free to load whatever you like.
    You can't load or change code regardless so don't worry about that. In fact you can only even package a SWF that contains absolutely no code, otherwise it won't load, so there's no way to change the code in an iOS app. All it can do is read something on the outside and modify its behavior via pre-written and packaged code, but you can't "load or change code" in any way.
    For now, mobile apps are not getting the "premium feature" tax Adobe is putting into motion August 1st. They excluded mobile. But be warned (because you made a game and might use Stage3D, who knows) that things might become more complicated if your game is serving custom banners, you're turning a profit on it and  you exceed $50,000 in sales while using premium features. Like I said though, this doesn't pertain to mobile apps, yet..

  • Load Quicktime movie with AS3

    I'm trying to use Actionscript 3 to load an external video
    file into my Flash project. The file is a .mov file & I can't
    really change that to any other format like.flv. I tried the
    following code, but I get an error saying it's an unknown format.
    var thisRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("video/" +
    fileName);
    var thisLoader:Loader = new Loader();
    thisLoader.load(thisRequest);
    addChild(thisLoader);

    Correct, flash cannot play quicktime "MOV" files.
    Flash can play MP4 and M4V/M4A files (which are also
    typically considered Quicktime movies) as well as FLV files.
    If you need to do this project with Flash, then you may want
    to talk to those who do have access to change the video format, to
    change it to use at least MP4 files. Also, you do have an FLV
    encoder that came with Flash that you can use (not to mention
    numerous other encoders for free download that work as well,
    arguably better than the default Adobe one) and thus you, yourself
    could change the files over for your use (though it would be a
    waste of server space to store the files twice)
    Just a thought

  • Load images with some effects

    Hi, I wanted to load java images with some effects like we have in power point like blinds or appear in Java swing when user clicks on the image.
    I have these specific questions in mind:
    1.Is there a way to do this in Java?
    2.Also how will this behave when the image to load is huge like 25 Mega Pixel?
    3.If we are dealing with large images being switched, what mechanism should be used for incorporating images in the application?
    4. Can there be a provision of displaying an image over another one with the one on the top having some transparency?
    Thanks,
    Sandeep

    how can this be done? do you have any pointers. i have played with swing earlier but did not know about the effects thingy.Well I didn't mean that you'd have ready made powerpoint-like effects (unless someone has created a library for that kind of stuff). I mean Java is a programming language, Powerpoint is a crime against nature.
    You'd need to program those effects (or find a library that does).OK, i think i will have to try this out first.
    The point is that i wanted to confirm to go with java or choose python.
    I need to track user inputs and display really large images. Now the interaction is really on graphical side like have moving images in the application which are transparent. I know Java but havent played with images yet and was not sure whether it will be worth spending days on this and then switch to python.
    >
    well my scenario will be 2x2 matrix of screens. it will be a 25 MP screen. so wont this work now in this context?Sure, if you have the resolution.
    i was thinking in terms of response time. any inputs?And I was answering in terms of response time. The Fullscreen API. Of course you'll need to keep all the images in memory (or at least a certain range if you want to show them fast enough).
    4. Can there be a provision of displaying an image over another one with the one on the top having some transparency?Sure.any pointers?Well, Java does support transparency and alpha channel. But you'll need to go through the APIs to find ways to do those.
    Is there a reason why you want to do this in Java?I mentioned that I have worked on swing before but was not sure to do it in a totally new prog. language like python.

  • Safari 7.0.1 does not load large images

    When I use safari and try to load an image with a resolution above, say, 2000x2000, I get a black box, sometimes with a grey area in the corner. The correct image displays for a brief moment, about a half second, but not enough for my viewing pleasure. This usually happens when I click imgur links on reddit, such as this one. I just searched a very large image on google, and was able to load it no problem. I've tried turning off all extensions, but even with no extensions the images do not load. Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you!

    Turning auto graphics off solved the issue for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxSlQ-GNbik
    Seems like Safari won´t render large images when you are using integrated grapchis.

    I will try to be clear:
    I want to open a file with the class choose and I want also in the same class to load an image with the command ImageIo.read()., to resize it and then to add this image as an icon into the Jpanel.
    I don't know why I receive the error in the final part ( LINE 223 and 224 are shown below) of the class choose:
    buttonPanel.add(label, BorderLayout.EAST); ---->ERROR !!!!
    contentPane.add(label);-------------------------------->ERROR!!!!!
    maybe the image is not fully loaded..
    I think that davedes has understood my problem but the modify that he proposed doesn't work---> The same error.

    When loading a page with many hires images, Firefox becomes really slow and scrolling becomes jumpy then eventually becomes completely unresponsive. Unusual high memory usage of up to 2gigs just for firefox when loading these pages. This was never a problem with v3.6.

    I encountered the same type of problem. Firefox running terribly slowly and slowing down my entire machine (Core i5 with 256GB SSD). Searching the forums, I found a couple of things about troubleshooting performance issues, one of which was to use '''hardware acceleration''', that is on by default. It was turned on on my PC, '''so I tried deactivating it, and it worked!'''
    So doing the exact opposite as Mozilla support said solved the problem. It is really a pain now to work with Firefox. I'm using it because I have no choice, but I'd recommend IE and Chrome over Firefox... Whatever, the market will decide once Firefox has become to crappy...

  • How to load a image after getting it with a file chooser?

    I'm still starting with JavaFX, and I simply would like to know how to load the image (e.g. png or jpg) that I selected using a FileChooser in the user interface. I can access the file normally within the code, but I'm still lost about how to load it appropriately. Every time I select a new image using the FileChooser, I should discard the previous one and consider the new one. My code is shown below:
    import javafx.stage.Stage;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.scene.shape.Rectangle;
    import javafx.scene.paint.Color;
    import javafx.scene.layout.HBox;
    import javafx.scene.control.Button;
    import javax.swing.JFileChooser;
    import javafx.scene.image.ImageView;
    import javafx.scene.image.Image;
    var chooser: JFileChooser = new JFileChooser();
    var image;
    Stage {
        title: "Image"
        scene: Scene {
            width: 950
            height: 500
            content: [
                HBox {
                    layoutX: 670
                    layoutY: 18
                    spacing: 10
                    content: [
                        Button {
                            text: "Open"
                            action: function() {
                                if (JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION == chooser.showOpenDialog(null)) {
                                    var imageFile = chooser.getSelectedFile();
                                    println("{imageFile.getCanonicalFile()}");
                                    image = Image{
                                        width: 640
                                        url:imageFile.getAbsolutePath()
                // Image area
                Rectangle {
                    x: 10
                    y: 10
                    width: 640
                    height: 480
                    fill: Color.WHITE
                ImageView {
                    x: 10
                    y: 10
                    image: bind image
    }Thank you in advance for any suggestion to make it work. :)

    As its name implies, the url param expect... an URL, not a file path!
    So, use {color:#8000FF}url: imageFile.toURI().toURL(){color} instead.

  • Problem with image loading in flex (with web dynpro ABAP integration)

    Hi,
    I am working with integration of flex and web dynpro abap. I am facing unusal problem while loading the images. I have the images in the MIME folder of web dynpro application. Since my swf file and all the images that I want to use are in the same folder(MIME), I am accessing them giving just the image name as source for the image in flex.
    By this method I get the images sometimes, but not everytime. So could anyone suggest me alternative method.

    Hello Prashant,
    you need to mention the full path as source for the image in flex.
    ex. if your WD application name is Z_TEMP and image file name in mime folder is 'image.jpg' then you need mention the source in flex as
    http://servername:50001/sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/Z_TEMP/image.jpg

  • When loading large number of images, images begin to fail to load in IE11 with DOM: 7009 error (unable to decode) in console

    When loading many images on a single page in IE (reproduced in IE11), some of them begin to fail to load, and have something similar to the following warning in the console:
    DOM7009: Unable to decode image at URL: '[some unique url]'.
    When I look at the network traffic, there does appear to valid responses received for each of these images from the server. It's not always the same images each time. If I use the dev tools to force the image to reload (example: I update the url to include some some extraneous url parameter "&test=1"), it loads/renders normally without error. I've reproduced this behavior with different types of images (jpegs/pngs; example png included below). Apologies for the cross-posting. I wasn't sure what the particular etiquette was for that - I've also posted this issue on StackOverflow and MS Connect under the same title. If one of those is a more appropriate place for this matter, please let me know and I'll close this issue.

    yup, i have encountered this problem as well. I'm loading an array of image frames for a movie, and i'm using preloadJS (javascript preloading library) and not displaying the images upfront.

  • How to access Image Metadata with AS3?

    An image, like a jpeg, has a bunch of metadata stored in it.
    The "IPTC Core" metadata usually includes the photographers name,
    address, title, description, etc.
    Is there any way to access this information using AS3 so
    that, say, captions for images in a flash gallery could be
    generated automatically?

    As far as I know this is not possible with AS3 directly, but
    if you are interested you could check out the as3corelib at
    http://code.google.com/p/as3corelib/
    They have some pretty nifty JPEG things going on there
    (although I do not know if this includes metadata - but I hope
    so).

  • Some images do not display in browser, iPad Air 2.  When I load a page with several jpgs (one 1920x720, then 8-10 800x800px), only the first few are shown.  Behaviour is similar for Safari and Chrome. Website issue or iPad?

    I have just bought an iPad, partly to check that my websites work OK on mobile devices.   When I load a page with several jpgs (e.g. one 1920x720, then 8-10 800x800px), only the first few are shown.  If I remove the large one, that sometimes fixes the problem. Behaviour is similar for Safari and Chrome. Is this a website issue or iPad?

    Sorry, I didn't make myself clear.  I'm using a new Wordpress theme that is meant to be responsive.  The large image is for a header, than you scroll down to see the rest, one by one.  Some one the pages work OK on my iPad, typically the old ones where the maximum image size was 500 x 500.  It's the new pages and those I've updated that are causing the problem.  On the iPad the large image loads, then a couple of the small ones become visible as I scroll down, but then darkness (rather like my knowledge level).
    Being new to IOS and iPads, I'm trying to work out whether I should be looking here, or amongst the Wordpress stuff for a solution.
    Here's the website with its new theme: http://www.new-zealand-pictures.com/
