Loading from MySQL/PHP Question

Hi all
I have used flash for a few years but only as stand alone
movie files which make up brochure websites etc so I have a limited
grasp on Actionscript as it stands. I do however also build sites
using PHP/XHTML which is very easy to achieve dynamicly driven
website, albeit a kind of static non-animated output.
I am now keen to learn/understand how easy/difficult it is to
do the same kind of thing but with Flash to help introduce animated
effects. An example of something I would do typically in PHP would
be to retrieve data from mysql and build a page of portfolio
examples, and this page would retrieve an image, and assciated data
for each portfolio entry and using Cascading Style Sheets I would
style the output for the end user.
Can someone explain if this rrequires a great understanding
of actionscript or is there a good source I can begin to learn
from? The reason why this needs to come from a database instead of
pre build external swf's being loaded is that the data will be
updated by users via content management systems.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
If one of them is stick to PHP then I will!

You already know PHP, so you can set up a PHP file that grabs
the data from mySQL, then converts it to XML file, and flash grabs
that data parses it out with nodeValues, i.e.,
firstChild/lastChild/and so on.

Best practice for loading from mysql into oracle?

Hi!
We're planning migrating our software from mysql to oracle. Therefore we need a migration path for moving the customer's data from mysql to oracle. The installation and the data migration/transfer have to run onto different customer's enviroments. So migration ways like installing the oracle gateway and connect for example via ODBC to mysql are no option because the installation process gets more complicated... Also the installation with preconfigured oracle database has to fit on a 4,6 GB dvd...
I would prefer the following:
- spool mysql table data into flat files
- create oracle external tables on the flat files
- load data with insert into from external tables
Are there other "easy" ways of doing migrations or what do you think about the prefered way above?

Didn't anyone have this requirement for migrations? I have tested with the mysql select into file clause. Seems to work for simple data types - we're now testing with blobs...

I like to call for different SWF files from a link in a MySQL
database to use in a Detailpage with PHP.
Photos and text are no problem.
The AC code is probably complicating things.
Is it possible? And if so how?
Maybe someone can help me out.

MySQL PHP question/problem.....blank page!

This is new to me, so be gentle and let me know what might be
happening
here.
- I set up a MySQL database which seems fine
- Set up a testing server for the site (the root of the
remote site) which
tests okay
- Set up a Connection which tests okay
- Created a Recordset which tests okay
- Inserted a REPEAT REGION and even just a field to
display.....I get a
blank page. Blank with DESIGN VIEW and blank with f12 and
blank if I upload
it and look at the page.
How can everything check out and test out yet it's not
returning anything? I
know there's an easy answer here....

How do I remove certain data being imported from a php file

I have data being loaded from a php into an xml class.
My host (which is free for testing purposes) keeps adding data to the php file which causes errors. I need to know how I can delete this extra text before I put the data into an XML class so I do not get the error. I did a trace of the data and this is what comes up below. I need everything below the </data> tag to be removed but do not know how to do this. Can someone please help me.

Populate Livecycle PDF from mySQL database using PHP

I'm trying to set up a database of loan agreements, where users will submit a form through Acrobat and their information will be stored in a mySQL database. Later, they can go back and download the PDF, which will be repopulated with their data in the mySQL db.
I made the form in Livecycle Designer and submit the information through HTTP POST. I can easily get the information from the form into the database...my only problem is getting that information back out into the PDF.
What would allow me to write back to the PDF, preferably using PHP? What kind of syntax would that require?

I have a vital form that clients fill out, which is passed to many people in the company along the workflow. The form is a Planner and we have in the following PDF, Word Doc..
Well before, the Planner.pdf was originally created in Word, since most people have access to Word.. but evolved to a PDF form created from the Word Doc via Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.0 w/ User Rights enabled so that the form could be filled out and saved using Adobe Reader.. which was a step better than Word.. being that it is free. But this needed to be easier and more to the point b/c some clients don't particularly like installing the latest version of Reader, even if you provide them the link. Nor do they like saving the form, filling the form, and attaching the form to send back.
My goal is to have the client fill an HTML version of the form, submit and be done with it, but everyone in the workflow be able to easily receive the filled Planner as a PDF form.
So some months ago I ran into this post Chris Trip, "Populate Livecycle PDF from mySQL database using PHP" #8, 22 Sep 2007 4:37 pm
which uses the command line Win32 pdftk.exe to merge an FDF file into an existing PDF on the remote server, and serve this to whoever.
My problem was with shared hosting and having the ability to use the Win32 pdftk.exe along with PHP which is predominantly used on Linux boxes. And we used a Linux box.
so i created the following unorthodox method, which a client fills the HTML version of the Planner, all field values are INSERTED into a table in MySQL DB, I and all filled planners that have been filled by clients to date can be viewed from a repository page where an XML file is served up of the corresponding client, but someone would have to have Acrobat Professional, to import the form data from the XML file into a blank form.. altoughh this is simple for me.. I have the PHP file already created so that when a Planner is filled and client submits. >> the an email is sent to me with a table row from the repository of the client name, #, email, and a link to d-load the XML file,
But I also have the PHP files created so that the Planner can be sent to by email to various people in the workflow with certain fileds ommitted they they do not need to see, but instead of the XML file beiong served up i need the filled PDF Planner to be served.
I can do this locally with ease on a testing server, but I am currently trying to use another host that uses cross-platform compatibility so i can use PHP and the pdftk.exe to achieve this, as that is why I am having to serve up an XML file b/c we use a Linux server for our website, and cant execute the exe.
Now that I am testing the other server (cross-platform host), just to use them to do the PDF handling (and it's only $5 per month) I am having problems with getting READ, WRITE, EXECUTE permissions..
Si guess a good question to ask is can PHP do the same procedure as the pdftk.exe, and i can eleminate it.
or how in the heck can i get this data from the DB into a blank PDF form, like i have described??

I'm afriad I don't have a solution to your problem but I was
curious as to why you would load it from a database vs a directory.
I know you can have users upload to a directory and a database but
I don't understand the benifit since I think you'd be adding load
on the database server. Is it a server side image manipulation

If the data is on a remote server (for example, PHP running on a web server, talking to a MySQL server) then you do this in an AIR application the same way you would do it with any Flex application (or ajax application, if you're building your AIR app in HTML/JS).
That's a broad answer, but in fact there are lots of ways to communicate between Flex and PHP. The most common and best in most cases is to use AMFPHP (http://amfphp.org/) or the new ZEND AMF support in the Zend Framework.

I thought about using sqlldr. But it requires a oracle client which may not be permitted in my environment.
If i generate "insert " statement and use batch update the batch update will stop if it comes across an exception when executing the insert one by one. I find no "insert ingore" statement in oracle like mysql.
Is there anyone can give me a solution with high performance? It's urgent and Thanks!

Why must it be a Java way? The point is just to move the data.

You want to turn off transactions? I'm not an Oracle expert, but I'd be shocked if there was something you could do in MySQL that didn't have an analog in Oracle. Find a better resource, like somebody that actually knows Oracle. Who set up that database for you? Consult with them.

How to insert data into Oracle db from MySQL db through PHP?

Hi,
I want to insert my MySQL data into Oracle database through PHP.
I can access Mysql database using mysql_conect() & Oracle database using oci_connect() through PHP.
Now How can I insert my data which is in MySQL into Oracle table. Both table structure are exactly same.
So I can use
insert into Oracle_Table(Oracle_columns....) values(Select * from MySQL_Table);
But again problem is I can't open both connections at the same time.
So has anyone done this before or anyone having any other idea..
Plz guide me...

You can do it if you setup a ODBC Gateway between MYSQL and Oracle DB. Then you can directly read from MySQL table using DB links and insert into Oracle table in one single SQL Statement.
Otherwise you need to fetch the data from MySQL Into variables in your PHP Program and then insert into Oracle after binding the variables to the insert statement for Oracle. Hope that is clear enough.

Loading Variables from a php file

Im trying to get the stats from a shoutcast radio stations
into flash so i can manipulate them into a nicer looking site.
Anyway, ive identified the line on which the stats are
updated (its in a php file, line 48):

and i was wondering the following things:
is it possible to have flash load only this line of text from
the php file,
how do i get flash to recognise "<stong>Curren Song" as
the variable
how to get flash to recognise the colon sign as meaning that
that is waht the variable is equal to,
and how, once flash recognises the parameter, to remove the
formatting code from the text.
Or is there an easier way of getting this variable into
flash, like using some kind of self-updating html file...
help would be much appreciated.

I'm sorry no-one has answered you yet - I'm afraid I don't know the answer to the question: but I wanted to put into your mind that starting up with AppleWorks at this stage isn't a good idea. The program was 'end-of-lifed' years ago, it won't run on Lion, and some of the document types created in it - Databases in particular - cannot be opened at all by any other program whatever. Word Processing documents can be opened in Pages, and Spreadsheets in Numbers (with some reservations in both cases), but building up a collection of AppleWorks documents at this stage is going to lead to problems later on.
It's difficult to know what to recommend for a PowerPC machine that would still be compatible with modern ones. An older version of Microsoft Office, perhaps, if you can find one which will run on PPC; but most of the modern Word Processors are Intel only. This is something you would need to investigate.

Question about scrolling and Movie Clips Loaded from the Library

I hope I am posting this in the right forum.
Ok, I'm using actionscript 2.0, and I am trying to make a scrolling image gallery. I have a movie clip with three layers. the first contains a movie clip used as a scroll bar. The second is a mask used to hide the overflow content, and the third contains movie clip thumbnails. when I click one of the thumbnails, it loads a symbol containing a larger version of the picture over top of the thumbnails on the same layer. My problem is, the large image is added at the very top of the movie clip, even when it is scrolled out of sight. I want it to appear in sight, so the user doesn't have to scroll all the way back up to the top to see it. This is annoying and confusing. Is there a way to do this?
Here is the code I used to create the scroll effect (there is actually a whole lot more to the code but it is very long, so I am not adding it now. I will if it is needed though)
(Oh, and there is no text involved in this. I just got this code off a tutorial and I haven't changed the variable names yet)

Thanks for your reply. I'll try to explain it better. I have a long, vertically scrolling movie clip. This movie clip contains lots of thumbnails. When I click a thumbnail, the full sized image is loaded from the library and displayed within the same movie clip. when I click the full size movie clip, it disappears again, and I can click another thumbnail to display another full size image. So I'm not just adding more and more stuff to the gallery if that's what you were thinking. I'm just clicking thumbnails to display the full size image so I can look at it, closing it, and moving on.
But the full sized image is fixed at the very top of the scrolling movie clip, so if I click a thumbnail at the very bottom, I have to scroll all the way back up to the top to see the full size image. I just want the full size image to appear on screen no matter how far down I have scrolled to click a thumbnail.

You can use the JDBC API for Java Database Connectivity. With this you can obtain data from the database using Java. There is an excellent tutorial here at Sun.com: http://www.google.com/search?q=jdbc+tutorial+site:sun.com You can get the MySQL JDBC driver at their own site: http://www.google.com/search?q=download+jdbc+driver+site:mysql.com Get the most recent version which suits your environment. There is also good documentation available over there.
For displaying in the UI, the approach differs per UI. As you didn't mention which UI you are using, I can't help you further in detail.
