Loadmovie corrupting the loaded swf

Hi,
I am running Flash MX and I made a preloader with a
loadmovie. The problem is that the elements of the preloader remain
in the loaded swf even though I did a "delete.this on enter frame"
thingy
Can anyone tell me why?
Here my code for info:

Could the fact I have 4 layers in my preloader/loadmovie have
anything to do with the problem? (1st layer I have a black
background, 2nd I have a the progress bar movie clip, 3rd a dynamic
text field, and 4th the actions)
Should I put everything on the 1st layer?

  • Loading external swf, how to deal with errors within the loaded swf?

    I have a Flex app that basically lets you browse a bunch of thumbnails that represent swf files, when you click a thumbnail it opens a window that loads the actual swf into an image control. The problem I have is that these swfs can be uploaded by our clients, so they may have actionscript errors being thrown, etc. We can't really predict what they may do. Is there a way I can load these swf in such a way as to ignore any errors that the loaded swf may generate within itself.
    For example, one such swf reads some text from a text file to display, but when they are viewing it in this manner the file isn't there so a stream error is generated. My parent Flex app doesn't care about this error and I don't want to see it thrown up in an actionscript error box (I have debug verison loaded on my PC obviously) or interfere with the parent app in any way.
    Would application domains help at all? Would it make a difference if I loaded the swf into a separate domain? Or is there some way I can generically trap any error coming from the loaded swf and just ignore them?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Marcus

    There is no way to catch errors thrown at random times.  Remember that most folks have the release player which does not show error dialogs.

  • How to get the correct size of the loaded swf file?

    final public class main extends Sprite
      public function main()
       loaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, _onLoadCompleted);
      private function _onLoadCompleted(event: Event): void
       var tw: int = stage.width;
       var th: int = stage.height;
       var tsw: int = stage.stageWidth;
       var tsh: int = stage.stageHeight;
    Above is my simple as3 project in flex builder 3.
    My screen resolution is 1920*1080, when debugging, the swf is stretched to the full client area of the IE, but the stage.stageWidth is 500 and the stage.stageHeight is 375, both the stage.widht and stage.height are 0, who can tell me why and how to get the right size of the swf file, named the client area size of the IE in this situation?
    Thanks very much!

    The HTML wrapper might resize the SWF later, so wait a frame and check stageWidth/stageHeight again.

  • Using loadMovie to load SWF linked to FLV

    I am having problems getting a movie (SWF) with an linked FLV
    file to play when I use loadMovie to load it in.
    I have an .FLV file named vid_9.flv. I have embedded it into
    a Flash movie named vid_9.swf using Flash 8 Professional. I am
    using "Progressive Download from a Web Server" and no controls.
    When I play the SWF on the stand-alone player (the FLV is in the
    same folder) it works great. Now when I call that SWF into another
    movie using
    swfHolder.loadMovie("SWFs/vid_9.swf");
    it shows it being completely loaded, but then never plays,
    all I get is a white screen. This is my second project in a row
    where this did not work. Any ideas as to why? Thanks for any
    help.

    onLoadComplete executes before the loaded swf's assets are initialized:  use onLoadInit.
    those function definitions in your loaded swf should NOT be in an onLoad method.  if they are defined on the main timeline of the loaded swf, use:
    var url:String = "scene05.swf";
            var movieClip:MovieClip = createEmptyMovieClip("movieClip", 0);
            var listenerObj:Object = new Object();
            listenerObj.onLoadInit = function (target_mc:MovieClip):Void {
                //It should execute these functions that are located in the onLoad event in the loaded swf.
                target_mc.initBackground();
                target_mc.initBackgroundWeg();
                target_mc.initVehicles();
                target_mc.initForeground();
                target_mc.initKnoppen();
            var movieClipLoader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
            movieClipLoader.addListener(listenerObj);
            movieClipLoader.loadClip(url, movieClip);

  • Targeting the timeline of a loaded swf - AS2

    I'm loading an external swf into a project and I want to be able to start and stop the loaded swfs timeline at will....
    I'm loading swf into an MC:
    loadMovie("myFile.swf", swfHolder_mc);

    you can reference the loaded swf's main timeline by referencing swfHolder_mc AFTER loading is complete and the swf is initialized.

  • Unloading a loaded external SWF with a close button on the external SWF to unload

    I have found some discussion on this topic but I am still having trouble getting it to work and was hoping to get some help here.
    Here I have a file: http://www.dril-quip.com/test/main.swf
    I have: main.swf (a menu) and I have module.swf (content)
    If you navigate to Subsea Wellhead Systems/SS-15 BigBore II and click on that I have it load an external swf which covers most of the parent.
    So far so good. My problem is unloading the loaded 'Child' swf with the button provided on the loaded 'Child' swf.
    below is the code I used to load the file but I cant, for the life of me, find a way to unload it.
    var bigboreLoader:Loader = new Loader();
    btnbb2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, bigborecontent);
    function bigborecontent(event:MouseEvent):void{
    var bigboreRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("moduletemplate.swf");
    bigboreLoader.load(bigboreRequest);
    stage.addChild(bigboreLoader);
    I am certain it requires the Child to communicate with the parent somehow but I am at a loss. If I could get a bit of advice or a link to something deal with this, it would be a big help. I just need to have my links load my modules and the remove them when the close buttong is hit on the loaded swf. I promise I have done searches and I admit I have found asnwers but still they are not working. I found the code below:
    Main FLA:
    function removeF() {
    removeChild(bigboreLoader);
    var bigboreLoader:Loader = new Loader();
    btnbb2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, bigborecontent);
    function bigborecontent(event:MouseEvent):void{
    var bigboreRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("moduletemplate.swf");
    bigboreLoader.load(bigboreRequest);
    stage.addChild(bigboreLoader);
    EXTERNAL FLA:
    btnClose2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, bigborecontent);
    function bigborecontent(myevent:MouseEvent):void {
    MovieClip(parent.parent).removeF();
    I think I have a misunderstanding of the code. Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

    This was the original code I got:
    Main FLA: (on AS layer inside DropDownButton Movie Object)
    function removeF() {
    removeChild(myLoader);
    var myLoader:Loader=new Loader ();
    page1_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, page1content);
    function page1content(myevent:MouseEvent):void {
    var myURL:URLRequest=new URLRequest("page1.swf");
    myLoader.load(myURL);
    addChild(myLoader);
    EXTERNAL FLA: (on main time line of this file)
    close_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, closeMC);
    function closeMC(myevent:MouseEvent):void {
    MovieClip(parent.parent).removeF();
    Main.FLA
    myLoader=bigboreLoader (my new loader)
    page1_mc=btnbb2 (the button who event will call external swf)
    page1content = bigborecontent (name given to SWF being loaded???)
    myURL=bigboreRequest (my new URLrequest for bigbore)
    page1.swf=moduletemplate.swf (actual address of what I am loading)
    External.FLA
    close_mc=button that will close external swf
    closeMC=movie clip to close?

  • Controlling a Movie Clip on the Main Timeline from a loaded SWF?

    Is it possible to control a MovieClip on the main timelne from another loaded clip?
    I see posts that control loaded clips, but most are all from the loader in the main timeline.  I have a moviclip on the main timeline that I want to make visible or invisible depending on what keyframe is playing in another loaded swf.
    If I try to call the movieClip from the loaded SWF I get "error #1119.  Access of possibly undefined property...." because it doesn't exist in the loaded SWF, just the main timeline.
    The old AS2 way just used "_root".  Since "_root" doesn't exist any more, how do you control items on the main TimeLine from a loaded SWF?

    I am not clear what you mean because you are saying you are trying to target a movieclip that does not exist where you are trying to target it.
    Try using a trace to see what you are targeting when you you target the MovieClip(parent.parent)....
    trace(MovieClip(parent.parent));
    The other approach I mentioned earlier is the more OOP-correct approach if you would rather try that way.  Here's a rough outline of it...
    AS3 - Dispatch Event
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/470135?tstart=120
    Example:
    Add something to trigger the event in the child (your loaded swf):
    dispatchEvent(new Event("eventTriggered")); (
    if dispatchEvent problem, see: http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1899603#post1899603)
    In your loading/parent swf, listen for the complete event on the Loader.contentLoaderInfo.  In the complete event handler, add a listener for the event on the loaded swf.
    // event handler triggered when external swf is loaded
    function loaderCompleteHandler(event:Event) {
        MovieClip(event.currentTarget.content).addEventListener("eventTriggered", eventHandler);
    function eventHandler(event:Event):void {
        trace("event dispatched in loaded swf");
       // this is where your main file can set the visible property of your movieclip

  • Calling a function in the main movie from a loaded swf

    I realize this is probably a very basic question, but I have
    loaded a SWF file into another movie. I now want to call a function
    in the main SWF. Is there a way to do that? Alternatively, I have a
    custom class where I could put the function, but I haven't been
    able to figure out how to call it from the loaded SWF either. Do I
    somehow need to associate the class with the main movie,
    or...?

    Never mind - I was doing something very stupid and wasn't
    calling the function as a method of a movie clip. I was simply
    calling checkTarget(event) rather than
    event.currentTarget.checkTarget(event); which seems to work.

  • Hello please, somebody knows how to unload a movie clip recently loaded and back to the main SWF?

    Good night guys!
    I come humbly ask for your help ...
    I have an extensive animation .. A kind of map of Brazil with 33 stores in 4 states distributed .. Clicking on the desired state, it expands and appear their stores. Only the animation and the first store were enough to generate a SWF comporting 3 megabytes .. So I decided to use an external SWF to every single stores, otherwise would be too heavy ..
    My goal is: Every shop clicked, loads a new external SWF which occupies the entire screen .. So if I wanted to return to the main SWF with button, how should I proceed?
    I have found an article that shows communication between two SWF, however, some steps did not work and I want it to button.
    Please, if you know, needs to be in ActionScript 3.
    Can somebody help me?
    Thanks, I hope to answer

    Olá Felipe, tudo bem com você?
    In order to unload content loaded into a Loader object you can use either the unload() method or the unloadAndStop() method. The difference between them is that unloadAndStop() will unload the loaded SWF and try to stop executing any code that it was running including animations, sound and event listeners.
    If you wanto to call the unload() or unloadAndStop() methods from the loaded SWF you can use its loaderInfo.loader property to reference the Loader object that loaded it.
    It could be someting like this:
    this.closeButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, this.handleClose);
    protected function handleClose(event:MoueEvent):void {
         this.loaderInfo.loader.unloadAndStop();
    You can pass a Boolean parameter to unloadAndStop() to indicate if Flash's garbage collector should be run ont the unloaded SWF in order to free up memory. Considering the size of your SWFs, this could be a good option. The downside is that there is a performance penalty and in my professional experience, CPU is still a resource that is more scarce than memory, so use with care.
    Hope this helps.

    Rui

  • Load and unload the external swf file using AS3(for window, IOS and android)

    For the external swf file loading, I use this code
    load2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, newvid);
    function newvid(event:MouseEvent) {
              trace("you clicked me");
              var loadit = new Loader();
              addChild(loadit);
        var _lc:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext(false, ApplicationDomain.currentDomain, null);
        loadit.load(new URLRequest("scene02.swf"), _lc);
    its working great but I don’t know how to unload the loaded swf files (looking: unload one by one and unload all)
    in AS2 we have
    on (release) {
              loadMovieNum("scene2.swf", 1);
              unloadMovieNum(2);
              unloadMovieNum(3);
    but i need in AS3

    Now I use this code and this time I got these compiler errors
    package {
                    import flash.display.SimpleButton;
                    import flash.display.MovieClip;
                    import flash.events.MouseEvent;

                    import flash.net.URLRequest;
                    import flash.system.LoaderContext;

                                                                    this.parent.addChild(loadit);
                                                                    var _lc:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext(false, ApplicationDomain.currentDomain, null);
                                                                    loadit.load(new URLRequest("s01.swf"), _lc);
                                                    private function unloadfile(event:MouseEvent):void {
                                                                    loadit.unloadAndStop();

  • Loaded SWF not displaying

    I've created a 'plugin' SWF file in CS3 using actionscript 3.
    The purpose of this file is to be included as a postroll in the
    open source flash media player JW FLV/Media Player (
    http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_Media_Player).
    I have heavily customized the media player libraries to do
    various new things/alter how things worked, and now want to be able
    to include the SWF file within this into a child sprite/movie clip.
    HOWEVER, the problem lies in that the media player is written
    completely in AS2, and therefore I have to use the MovieClipLoader
    class to load in the SWF. Updating the source to AS3 isn't an
    option unfortunatly, and downgrading the AS3 SWF to AS2 isn't an
    option either, mainly due to the fact I've learnt AS3, not AS2, and
    find it frustrating trying to find the AS2 equivalent to the AS3
    methods I know.
    The problem though lies in that MovieClipLoader does not like
    my SWF at all. Initially I was presented with a load of sandbox
    errors from when it was loaded in, which I then resolved so that no
    security errors are produced. However, whenever I load in the clip,
    the target sprite/clip is empty. I have gone through checking that
    no errors occur on load, and it reports that the loaded SWF has
    been initialized, yet I see nothing. Also, the code loading the SWF
    is not at fault as it loads any other SWF (even another AS3 SWF
    which just creates a rectangle) no problem.
    Oddly enough, using the MovieClip.loadMovie method works in
    one situation - when you load it into the root of the AS2 file.
    When loading it into an empty movie clip, the same problem of a
    blank clip occurs. The problem is not specific to the media player
    either, as it happened in any AS2 file where I was testing how to
    load in the AS3 SWF.
    If it is of any use, the sandbox errors produced by the AS3
    file when loaded into AS2 swf I had to resolve where to do with
    stage access for getting the stage height and width, and a
    Loader.content error when pulling out the BitmapData. These were
    resolved via setting the allowed domains policy and eliminating any
    reference to stage.stageHeight/With.
    Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this? The only
    possible solution I've been able to think of so far since the AS3
    swf won't display is to play with the LocalConnection class as
    tests showed I can communicate between the AS2 and AS3 files, but
    this would have to be a last resort, and is less than ideal when
    there can be multiple instances of the player running (I would need
    to use unique connection names for each instance so as to prevent
    player A interacting with player B, and also as only one of the
    players can listen on the connection at once).

    I have the component in the top level also,
    I get this error:
    TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter child must be non-null.

    I've checked the definitions for the tree component,
    The LabelButton and List I don't have much control over.
    I'm not sure how to fix this.  The xml is correct and loads easily if it's in the root document.
    The list component doesn't load the labels, It stops on the first one.
      What do I do next?

  • Loading swf into swf in exact position

    It's very simple to load an external swf into a main swf with
    loadMovieNum("name.swf", 50);
    But how do I control the position of the loaded swf?
    Currently it just pops in the top left.

    Try loading your external .swf into a pre-positioned
    movieClip, for example myMovie.loadMovie("name.swf). If you do not
    want to do this you can position the loaded movie later in your
    application or onload by setting the x and y pos with some
    AS.

  • Trigger function when loaded swf finishes

    I'm making a site that loads external swfs based on which
    button is clicked. When the swf loads it plays an intro and then
    stops at a certain point. My goal is that when you click another
    button the current swf plays an outro before the next one loads.
    The problem I'm having is making the outgoing movie trigger the
    function that loads the next.
    At first I tried just adding loadNextMovie(); to the last
    frame of the loaded swf. But for some reason this causes the two
    stops in the file from working so the thing just keeps looping. I
    have no idea why adding this function call would prevent stop();
    from working.
    Is there another way to have the end of movie trigger the
    function? Also, why doesn't adding loadNextMovie(); to the last
    frame of the loaded swf work?

    Ok, sure. I have main.swf that loads external.swf. Main.swf
    has a function that loads a different movie. Like this:
    function loadMovie():void {
    trace("movie loaded")
    This function is to be called from external.swf by putting
    this in the last frame:
    stop();
    loadMovie();
    But when I actually put loadMovie(); into external.swf the
    stop no longer works and it just loops. What am I doing wrong? Is
    trying to put this function call in the external swf the correct
    approach?

  • Can you tell when a loaded SWF has reached its final frame?

    I used loadMovie to load an external SWF into the bottom-half
    of a main "shell" swf. When that loaded SWF finishes playing (it's
    just an animation), I need to populate a text field with the word
    "DONE" . The text field resides on the _root, so I need some way to
    know when the loaded SWF has reached its last frame...
    This would obviously be easy if I had the .FLA of the loaded
    SWF because I could just write the actionscript on the last frame
    of that SWF to populate the _root textfield. Alas, I do not have
    the source FLA of that loaded SWF, so I need some way to have the
    main "shell" SWF/FLA know when that loaded SWF has reached its end.
    Is this possible???
    Thanks!!!

    So far, so good.
    > When clicked, each link loads a DIFFERENT swf into
    "contentClip".
    > It is THOSE swfs that I need to note the end of.
    That's still okay.
    > So, there's actually more than one, and they're not
    exactly being
    > loaded directly from my main movie, since they're
    actually loaded
    > based on a link being clicked in the movie that is
    currently loaded
    > into "containerClip"
    The concept is still the same, no matter what. No matter how
    deep the
    one-clip-loads-another chain goes, you have to keep taps on
    each chain link.
    When the final link has loaded, you'll be able to make your
    object reference
    to that movie clip. That movie clip -- because it's an
    instance of the
    MovieClip class -- will have the _currentframe and
    _totalframes properties.
    You'll just be checking *that* cliip's properties instead of
    the one named
    contentClip in my own example.
    You can loop using onEnterFrame or, if you prefer, with
    setInterva().
    That doesn't much matter either, so long as you repeatedly
    poll the deepest
    clip to test its current frame against its last frame (this
    all assumes that
    the clip being tested is a linear animation whose end
    corresponds to its
    last frame; otherwise, you could check _currentframe against
    any arbitrary
    frame number).
    > I hope that wasn't too confusing! Do you still have a
    solution???
    Not too confusing to understand, but it might be confusing
    to route
    through in practice. Not confusing, actually, but meticulous
    ... you'll
    have to be careful with your pathing. Nested movie clips are
    very much like
    nested folders on your hard drive. Their instance names
    relate to the
    folder names.
    Now, if that menu doesn't have an instance name you provided
    -- or if
    any fork along the path has an instance name you can't
    control -- you can
    still reference the nested movie clips. If you test your file
    in the
    Debugger panel, you'll see all the instances laid out in
    hierarchical order.
    You'll see that automatic instance names are provided
    (something like
    "instance1", "instance2", etc.).

  • Load SWF with instances into MC

    Hello,
    I have a SWF called "player.swf", and it contains instances
    like: "head", "body" etc...
    I want to load that SWF into another SWF
    ("display_player.swf"), and to load ANOTHER SWF to replace the
    "head" instance, like:
    "_root.p" is a transparent red colored movie clip inside
    "display_player.swf"
    I tried doing this:
    _root.p.loadMovie("player.swf");
    trace(_root.p.head);
    "_root.p" said to be "_level0.p" and is displayed correctly,
    but "_root.p.head" said to be undefined (NaN)...
    Does anyone has an idea on how to load a SWF inside a movie
    clip, and use it's instances?

    The point here is to demostrate, or at least determine, what
    the problem is. I have stated that it is probably likely that you
    are making the call to _root.p.head previous to it being
    instatiated on the timeline. you must wait for the swf to load
    before the clip within the loaded swf can be made available to
    target. A better method would be to use the MovieClipLoader class,
    and then use the onLoadInit handler, this handler is displatched
    when the swf becomes available to the timeline, then within the
    handler you could call your trace, or load into the 'head' instance
    at the correct time.
    I have made an example to demostrate this, using
    representations of you clips and swfs:

    PS. launch the items from within the folder.
