Log files can be applied after an offline backup is restored?
When reading the Admin Guide I see above possibility.
I guess in that case the offline backup must be done in the Database Maintenance Mode: QUIESCE.
I think if the offline backup is done after the DB is shutdown, no log files can be applied.
Would you please confirm and share your experience on this?
Thanks a lot!
Hi Jennifer,
only to complete the answer of Jens, or "say" it less complex:
1.) Yes you could roll forward an offline backup. DB2 always end in rollforward pending state after a restore independent of the backup type (online | offline). In case of an offline backup you could complete the restore without logs, otherwise not.
2.) The offline backup is done in a special mode, it is neither online nor quiesced. Nobody can log on to the database as long the offline backup is running. To start the offline backup, you have to deactivate the database as described by Jens.
Best regards
Ralph

What log files to clean up after shut down of Vision R12.0.4
Hi,
I installed EBS R12.0.4 VISION on my laptop running Oracle Linux 5. What log files can I delete after everytime I shut down the APPS instance as I don't have enough space left on my harddrive.
ThanksPlease review the note referenced below. Even though it is for 11i, most of the notes are also applied to R12 (i.e. Purge Concurrent Request and/or Manager Data concurrent request, *.bak and *.sav files, $APPLCSF/$APPLLOG, $APPLCSF/$APPLOUT, .. etc).

Please help me!!!!Hi,
After several tries my redo logs are applied now. I think in my case it had to do with the tnsnames.ora. At this moment I have both database in both tnsnames.ora files using the SID and not the SERVICE_NAME.
Now I want to use DGMGRL. Adding a configuration and a stand-by database is working fine, but when I try to enable the configuration DGMGRL gives no feedback and it looks like it is hanging. The log, although says that it succeeded.
In another session 'show configuration' results in the following, confirming that the enable succeeded.
DGMGRL> show configuration
Configuration
Name: avhtest
Enabled: YES
Protection Mode: MaxPerformance
Fast-Start Failover: DISABLED
Databases:
avhtest - Primary database
avhtestls53 - Physical standby database
Current status for "avhtest":
Warning: ORA-16610: command 'ENABLE CONFIGURATION' in progress
It there anybody that experienced the same problem and/or knows the solution to this?
With kind regards,
Martin Schaap -

Please help me!!!!Hi,
After several tries my redo logs are applied now. I think in my case it had to do with the tnsnames.ora. At this moment I have both database in both tnsnames.ora files using the SID and not the SERVICE_NAME.
Now I want to use DGMGRL. Adding a configuration and a stand-by database is working fine, but when I try to enable the configuration DGMGRL gives no feedback and it looks like it is hanging. The log, although says that it succeeded.
In another session 'show configuration' results in the following, confirming that the enable succeeded.
DGMGRL> show configuration
Configuration
Name: avhtest
Enabled: YES
Protection Mode: MaxPerformance
Fast-Start Failover: DISABLED
Databases:
avhtest - Primary database
avhtestls53 - Physical standby database
Current status for "avhtest":
Warning: ORA-16610: command 'ENABLE CONFIGURATION' in progress
It there anybody that experienced the same problem and/or knows the solution to this?
With kind regards,
Martin Schaap -
What log files can delete in RAC?
Hi,
I have a little question, what log files can delete?
$ORA_CRS_HOME/log/hostname/client ?
And what others?
MiguelSome logs are automatically purged and some not: see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/rac.102/b14197/appsupport.htm#BEHJHGJD.
Trace files (.trc) that can be created in same directories are not purged automatically. -
What files can be excluded from user-managed backup in noarchivelog mode?
what files can be excluded from user-managed backup in noarchivelog mode?
control files,
sqlnet.ora file,
tnsnames.ora,
datafiles associated with read-only tablespaces,
datafiles associated with read/write tablespaces,
of these, what can be excluded and what have to be included?
Thanks.... and don't forget pfile or spfile... it can help too.

After doing the backup and restore how do you know if the iphone is unlocked if you do not get the message: "Unlock Complete. Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked. To set up and sync this iPhone, click Continue."
If you don't get the message, your phone is NOT unlocked.

My Final Cut Projects folder were missing some files, I went to my time machine backup to restore and it said I don't have permission to access the time machine folder "Final Cut Projects". Why?
Yes, I've done all "the ususal suspects.." repaired permissions, zapped pram, "reintroduced Time Machine to the backup drive by turning it off and on... etc

iMessages are backed up in the normal backup of your phone so it will be restored when you restore the backup.

Odd log files appearing in Bridge after editing in CS5
During the past week, I've noticed that on two occasions three text files have appeared in the folder that I'm loading/saving files from whilst working in Photoshop. In both cases I've just deleted the files, but it's left me wondering what might have caused them to be generated in the first place.
The files seem to be (network?) log files: I get RECV.txt, SENT.txt, and TEST.txt. I'm pretty sure that the first time they appeared, I was working in ACR, and after closing some files having carried out a few edits I spotted the files alongside the raw (DNG) files I'd been working on. The same three files appeared again tonight, this time whilst working on a couple of PSDs (although I did briefly go into ACR also).
I wonder if perhaps they're being generated by CS5 trying to "call home" as part of the authentification system Adobe have in place? This is something of a shot in the dark though!
I have all the latest updates installed for Photoshop and am running Windows 7 64-bit. The system is fully patched and well maintained; so far as I can tell nothing malicious is present. I've been happily using Photoshop for at least a couple of years now and don't recall having ever seen this before. Although I deleted the text files, I've not emptied out my recycle bin, so I guess I could copy & paste their contents if anyone feels this would be worthwhile.
Has anyone else encountered this oddity before?
MHello Noel, thanks for replying.
I've checked through the .txt files and I believe that I've identifed the source of these logs: I recently purchased the PhotoKit Sharpener 2 plug-in, and this uses an activation system to authenticate that the user licence is genuine and complying with the licence terms (same as PS - you can have it on two seperate machines if it's not being used on both at the same time, which is fair enough I think). The .txt files clearly seem to indicate that they have been generated as a result of this procedure. However, that fact that logs are being created leads me to conclude that perhaps the activation system has failed for some reason... I've checked on the PhotoKit support page and it does have a message about a known issue where some activations fail - they're apparently currently looking into this (it seems to be quite a rare problem, just my luck if I am affected!). In fact it seems to imply that the product could even go back to demo mode, which I rather hope won't happen to me having spent around £80 on this plug-in, which I'm finding to be excellent so far.
I've just sent a message to PK support, and hope that they'll get back to me soon. I can update this thread if you'd like to know what they have to say on the matter?
Perhaps Geoff Schewe will also respond (as a key member of the PK team), but I don't think he frequents this particular forum on a regular basis.

Log files can't be removed automatically in HA environment
Hi BDB experts,
I am writing db HA application based on bdb version 4.6.21. Two daemons run on two machines, one as master which will read/write db, one as client/backup will only read db. There is one thread in master daemon that run checkpoint every 1 second: dbenv->txn_checkpoint(dbenv, 1, 1, 0), and dbenv->log_archive(dbenv, NULL, DB_ARCH_REMOVE) will be called after runnng checkpoint each time. The env was open with flag: DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_INIT_LOCK | DB_INIT_LOG | DB_REGISTER | DB_RECOVER | DB_INIT_MPOOL | DB_THREAD | DB_INIT_REP; Autoremove flag was set by: envp->set_flags(uid_dbs.envp, DB_LOG_AUTOREMOVE, 1) before open env.
I found this thread https://forums.oracle.com/message/10945602#10945602 which discussed about non-ha environment, and I tested my code in a non-ha env without DB_INIT_REP, it worked. However in HA env those log files were never removed. Could you help on this issue? Does the client need to run checkpoint? May there be a bdb bug?
Thanks,
MinThere is one thread in master daemon that run checkpoint every 1 second: dbenv->txn_checkpoint(dbenv, 1, 1, 0), and dbenv->log_archive(dbenv, NULL, DB_ARCH_REMOVE) will be called after runnng checkpoint each time. The env was open with flag: DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_INIT_LOCK | DB_INIT_LOG | DB_REGISTER | DB_RECOVER | DB_INIT_MPOOL | DB_THREAD | DB_INIT_REP; Autoremove flag was set by: envp->set_flags(uid_dbs.envp, DB_LOG_AUTOREMOVE, 1) before open env.
I am not saying that this is causing a problem, but doing the DB_ENV->log_archive(DB_ARCH_REMOVE) in your thread and setting DB_ENV->set_flags(DB_LOG_AUTOREMOVE) is redundant. In your thread, you control the timing. The DB_ENV->set_flags(DB_LOG_AUTOREMOVE) option checks for and removes unneeded log files when we create a new log file.
Did you see in the documentation for DB_ENV->set_flags(DB_LOG_AUTOREMOVE) that we don't recommend doing automatic log file removal with replication? Although this warning is not repeated in DB_ENV->log_archive(DB_ARCH_REMOVE), it also applies to this option. You should reconsider using this option, particularly if it is possible that your client could go down for a long time.
But this is only a warning and automatic log removal should work. My first thought here is to ask whether your client has recently gone through a sync? Internally, we block archiving on the master during some parts of a client sync to improve the chances that we will keep around all logs needed by the syncing client. We block archiving for up to 30 seconds after the client sync.
I found this thread https://forums.oracle.com/message/10945602#10945602 which discussed about non-ha environment, and I tested my code in a non-ha env without DB_INIT_REP, it worked. However in HA env those log files were never removed.
This thread is discussing a different issue. The reason for our warning in BDB 4.6 against using automatic log removal with replication is that it doesn't take into account all the sites in your replication group, so we could remove a log from the master that a client still needs.
We added replication group-aware automatic log removal in BDB 5.3 Replication Manager, and this discussion is about a change of behavior from this addition. With this addition, we no longer need to recommend against using automatic log removal with replication in BDB 5.3 and later releases.
Could you help on this issue? Does the client need to run checkpoint? May there be a bdb bug?
I'm not sure the client needs to run its own checkpoints because it performs checkpoints when it receives checkpoint log records from the master.
But none of the log removal options on the master does anything to remove logs on the client. You will need to perform steps to archive logs separately on the client and the master.

Redo log files are not applied in DR of primary
Hi All,
I have a DR database of primary on QA Serevr. The Redo log files are not properly applied in the DR database.
The Oracle version is 11.2.0.1 Some of the files get shipped and applied to DR database automatically but not all.
SQL> select status, error from v$archive_dest where dest_id=2; gives following massage
ERROR ORA-16086: Redo data cannot be written to the standby redo log
Please suggest.
