LogMining on a standby database ?
Hello All
Is it possible to log mine on a read-only standby database ? 9i
It seems not, but am I missing a trick ?
I cannot change the state of the database.

Additional inforamtion for my posted question below:
Can Stream be implemented on a logical standby database? For example, use Stream to replicate one schema objects (tables and indexes ..) from an remote database to a logical standby database of a different primary database?
In this case, the remote database will be the source database and the logical standby database will be the destination database.
Thanks in advance!

How to delete the foreign archivelogs in a Logical Standby database
How do I remove the foreign archive logs that are being sent to my logical standby database. I have files in the FRA of ASM going back weeks ago. I thought RMAN would delete them.
I am doing hot backups of the databases to FRA for both databases. Using ASM, FRA, in a Data Guard environment.
I am not backing up anything to tape yet.
The ASM FRA foreign_archivelog directory on the logical standby FRA keeps growing and nothing is get deleted when
I run the following command every day.

Manual Standby Database (10.2.0.2.0) on Windows 2003 R2
Hi,
We are setting up a standby database on a remote site for a simple oracle DB. As we already have a standby/master for another Oracle DB (from SAP) we want to stay as close as possible as what already exist.
For the SAP Oracle standby, we are copying manualy all archive to the stand by and apply them with brarchive. All is working fine.
For the new standby, we can not use brarchive as there is no SAP install on the standby but we stay with the "manual" copy of the archive from the master to the standby (using robocpy). It means all archive are on the standby (K:\oracle\oradata\archive).
The creation of the standby DB seems to be OK as i can open it, but i can't manage to apply de redo logs.
I'm quite new to oracle, so it's maybe a very basic issue, but i've already spent 3 days on it...
To start the DB, we lauch a bat script :
sqlplus /nolog @c:\backup\standby.sql
pause
the standby.sql:
connect /@TECDB01 as sysdba
startup nomount;
alter database mount standby database;
exit;
Then i connect to sqlplus and enter:
alter database recover managed standby database;
In another sqlplus session :
SELECT PROCESS, STATUS, THREAD#, SEQUENCE#, BLOCK#, BLOCKS FROM V$MANAGED_STANDBY;
wich give me :
PROCESS STATUS THREAD# SEQUENCE# BLOCK# BLOCKS
ARCH CONNECTED 0 0 0 0
ARCH CONNECTED 0 0 0 0
MR(fg) WAIT_FOR_GAP 1 45400 0 0
RFS IDLE 0 0 0 0
The sequence 45400 seems to be ok regarding the time of the backup restored on the standby.
The archive is well on the server, but it won't apply it.

Hi,
When we say "Logical Standby Databases are logically identical to primary databases although the physical organization and structure of the data can be different." what does it exactly means?
Does it mean that in logical standby tablespace name, schema name, table name, column names etc can be different and still has the same data as primary?
Does it mean that we can exclude indexes and constraints as present in primary?
Only the data should match with primary word by word, value by value?
I am asking this as i have never worked in a logical standby database but i seriously want to know.
Please answer.
Regards,
SIDPhysical standby differs from logical standby:
Physical standby schema matches exactly the source database.
Archived redo logs and FTP'ed directly to the standby database which is always running in "recover" mode. Upon arrival, the archived redo logs are applied directly to the standby database.
Logical standby is different from physical standby:
Logical standby database does not have to match the schema structure of the source database.
Logical standby uses LogMiner techniques to transform the archived redo logs into native DML statements (insert, update, delete). This DML is transported and applied to the standby database.
Logical standby tables can be open for SQL queries (read only), and all other standby tables can be open for updates.
Logical standby database can have additional materialized views and indexes added for faster performance.
Installing Physical standbys offers these benefits:
An identical physical copy of the primary database
Disaster recovery and high availability
High Data protection
Reduction in primary database workload
Performance Faster
Installing Logical standbys offer:
Simultaneous use for reporting, summations and queries
Efficient use of standby hardware resources
Reduction in primary database workload
Some limitations on the use of certain datatypes -
Logical Standby Database Not Getting Sync With Primary Database
Hi All,
I am using a Primary DB and Logical Standby DB configuration in Oracle 10g:-
Version Name:-
SQL> select * from v$version;
BANNER
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.5.0 - 64bi
PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.5.0 - Production
CORE 10.2.0.5.0 Production
TNS for Solaris: Version 10.2.0.5.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.5.0 - Production
We have build the logical standby last week and till date the Logical DB is not sync. I have checked the init parameters and I wont see any problems with it. Also archive log destinations are also fine enough.
We have a important table named "HPD_HELPDESK" where record count is growing gradually whereas in logical standby it's not growing. There are some 19K record difference in the both the tables.
I have checked the alert log but it is also not giving any error message. Please find the last few lines of the alert log in logical Database:-

I am not able to trace the issue that why the records are not growing in logical DB. Please provide your inputs.
Regards,
ArijitHow do you know that there's such a gap between the tables?
If your standby db is a physical standby, then it is not open and you can't query your table without cancelling the recovery of the managed standby database.
What does it say if you execute this sql?
SELECT PROCESS, STATUS, THREAD#, SEQUENCE#, BLOCK#, BLOCKS FROM V$MANAGED_STANDBY;The ARCH processes should be connected and MRP waiting for a file.
If you query for the archive_gaps, do you get any hits?
select * from gv$archive_gapIf you're not working in a RAC environment you need to query v$archive_gap, instead!
Did you check whether the archives generated from the primary instance are transferred and present in the file system of your standby database?
I believe your standby is not in recovery_mode anymore or has an archive_gap, which is the reason why it doesn't catch up anymore.
Hope it helps a little,
Regards,
Sebastian
PS: I'm working on 11g, so unfortunately I'm not quite sure if the views are exist in 10gR2. It's worth a try though!

Problem while mining archivelog in Logical Standby Database
I have configure Data Guard with one Primary database, one physical standby and one logical standby database; redo are applied correcly on the physical standby database but on the logical standby database when logminer begin mining logfile it encounter this errors :
ORA-00600 internal error code, arguments : [kpotcgah-7],[64],[X4],[],[],[],[],[]
ORA-12801 error signaled in parallel query server P003
ORA-07445
ORA-12805 parallel query server died unexpectedlyUnfortunately ORA-00600 errors are beyond the scope ot this forum, as they require tools and source code available only at Oracle Support. The only directions you most probably will get here is to issue a Service Request. Oracle support will, among other things, ask you if you are at the latest available patch for your platform.
Good luck. -
Real-time apply cascaded logical standby database
Hi
I have a primary database orcl
Pysical standby database orcl_std
Cascaded logical standby database orcl_tri which receives archivelogs from orcl_std
Real time apply is enabled both in orcl_std (physical standby) and orcl_tri (logical standby)
When I create a table in primary orcl, I am unable to see it on orcl_tri (Although real time apply is enabled)
However, when I switch log in primary, I can see the new table on orcl_tri.
My question is, why realtime apply is not working in my scenerio ?
orcl_std : ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT FROM SESSION USING CURRENT LOGFILE;
orcl_tri: ALTER DATABASE START LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY IMMEDIATE;

Thanks for your reply.
There is no load or network issue as I`ve just created these databases for the experiement.

Problem building logical standby database
Hi all,
i am trying to build a logical standby database on platform Sun OS 10/Oracle 10gR2. I am following the Oracle document http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/create_ls.htm#BEIGHEIA
I have created a physical standby database and converting it to a logical standby database. I ensured that my physical Standby is in Sync with primary.
Procedure DBMS_LOGSTDBY.BUILD executes successfully on primary.
The problem is that the command *'alter database recover to logical standby test;'* DOESN'T END. No error in archive log. I have identified the archived redo log that contains the LogMiner dictionary and the starting SCN and applied that archive log on standby. Still the the above command doesn't end.
Any Help is appreciated.SQL> alter database recover to logical standby m2test;
This command doesn't return an sql> prompt. Alert log says it is waiting for log sequence 25. The command is running is for more than 5 hours, but still not competed.
Alertlog:
Thu Feb 5 22:14:25 2009
alter database recover to logical standby m2test
Thu Feb 5 22:14:25 2009
Media Recovery Start: Managed Standby Recovery (mtest)
Thu Feb 5 22:14:25 2009
Managed Standby Recovery not using Real Time Apply
parallel recovery started with 2 processes
Media Recovery Waiting for thread 1 sequence 25
Document says :-
If a dictionary build is not successfully performed on the primary database, this command will never complete.
But the dictionary build on primary is successful.
SQL> execute dbms_logstdby.build;
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
I used the following queries and to find which archive log contains dictionary build and made sure that the log archive sequence 22 is applied on standby.
SQL> SELECT NAME FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG
WHERE (SEQUENCE#=(SELECT MAX(SEQUENCE#)
FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG
WHERE DICTIONARY_BEGIN = 'YES' AND STANDBY_DEST='NO')); 2 3 4
NAME
/oradata/mtest/archive/mtest_1_22_677975686.arc
SQL> SELECT MAX(FIRST_CHANGE#) FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG
WHERE DICTIONARY_BEGIN='YES'; 2
MAX(FIRST_CHANGE#)

Steps to rollback when Logical Standby Database creation fails
Hi,
In case while creating a logical standby database it fails. What steps should be done on primary to rollback the earlier steps. Because while creating logical standby we do certain tasks on primary e.g.
1) create supplemental logging.
2) update init file.
Regards,
TusharHi,
Thanks for the mail. Should I drop the supplemental logging using
"Alter database DROP Supplemental Log data;".
or if we need to disable, how can we do so?
Rest is ok. Anyways I would not be using force logging.
Droping of additional tablespace created to keep logminer tables on primary.
Removing of log_archive_dest_2 information from primary init.
I think the above should do.
Regards,
Tushar -

Creating Standby Database / Steps might be missing..
I have created standby database..
The archives are copied except one archived log and those copied archived are not applied at Standby database.
Besides this issue, I just checked the alert log file and pasting its contents here.
Do check it and let me know If I m missing any paramter[s].

Regards,
Rakesh Soni.Done, I've given the same path in Standby Database [datafiles, controlfiles] as it has been given in the Primary Database.
MoreOver, I m manually switching logfiles at primary database [alter system switch logfile] they are copied and applied sucessfully at standby database. But the archived files that I have copied with cold backup are not applied yet. Infact they are not retrieved executing the below query.
select name, applied from v$archived_log;
How can I apply those archived logs? [archives that copied with cold backup]

Creating a new schema in a Logical Standby Database
Hi All,
I am experimenting with logical standby databases for the purpose of reporting, and have not been able to create a new schema in the logical standby database - one of the key features of logical standbys.
I have setup primary and logical standby databases, and they seem to be running just fine - changes are moved from the primary to the standby and queries on the standby seem to run ok.
However, If I try to create a new schema on the logical standby, that does not exist on the primary, I get "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges" errors when I try to create new objects.
Show below are the steps I have taken to create the new schema on the logical standby. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edited by: 895188 on Dec 21, 2012 6:22 PMHello;
Script has to be run from auxiliary.
Great details, but what I don't see is how you connect in RMAN.
Example
Start RMAN
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@recover2 auxiliary=sys/@reclone
Recovery Manager: Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production on Wed Feb 22 14:50:31 2012
Copyright (c) 1982, 2009, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.
connected to target database: RECOVER2 (DBID=3806912436)
connected to auxiliary database: RECLONE (not mounted)Nothing in your tnsnames or listener jumps out as wrong. I copied them into my text editor and compared against my working ones.
Generally for active duplication I start the future standby on a pfile NOMOUNT.
Auxiliary Instance Initialization Parameters Needed :
DB_NAME
CONTROL_FILES
DB_BLOCK_SIZE
( add extra parameters like DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT instead of using the SET command - clean up standby spfile right after duplication )
Then start RMAN and finally run a single line duplication command.
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@primary auxiliary=sys/@standby
