LogShipping: recover_replace of logs too slow. Can we tune it?

after having trouble with bad pages on MaxDB we built up a standby db with LogShipping to be prepared for future trouble. All in all, it works. We wrote a script, that makes a dbmcli session. It begins with recover_start, after that it continues with ongoing recover_replace commands. Our productive db writes logs every hour (at least). When the system load is high (during heavy batch jobs for example), it writes several GBs of logs during one hour. We then have the situation, that recovering of 1 hour logs of the productive system takes several hours to recover into the standby db, the standby system is not able to follow up in time. The hardware of the standby db doesn´t show high activity (cpu, memory, network, disk).
Here the question:
Has anybody an idea to speed up the log recovery? Perhaps any maxdb parameters (the standby db is offline during log recovery)?

Hello Frank,
the database is not offline during recovery, but in ADMIN mode - so, technically it would be possible to perform some system monitoring.
Unfortunately, DBAnalyzer is not available during ADMIN mode, so you'd have to resort to manually interpreting the x_cons output.
Once often seen issue is the DB CACHE size on the standby db being to small.
Also worth to check is the I/O performance - which can also be checked via x_cons (time enable + show t_cnt + IO queues on MaxDB >=7.7).

Captivate 5 too slow, can I still purchase Captivate 4?

I've found Captivate 5 incredibly and unworkably slow, both on my home PC (E8400 Core 2 Duo, 6GB RAM) and on my work PC (same CPU, 2GB RAM).
It's much slower than Captivate 4 and as I'm working to very tight deadlines, Captivate 5 just won't do.
Can I still purchase Captivate 4 from somewhere. Really, what I'm looking for is a download purchase since I could really do with having it today rather than buying the disc online and having to wait for it to be delivered (I've used up all 30 days of my Captivate 4 trial and Captivate 5 is just terrible).
Any suggestions would be great.

I too am running Captivate 5 on a Windows 7 64 bit box. For me, sometimes it's slow and other times it's faster. Personally, I haven't noticed it being faster to use than Captivate 4. In many cases it does seem slower. There are periods where it like "goes to sleep" and after waiting for a while it wakes back up. When it fails to wake up, I kill the process and start Captivate life fresh and it's usually okay for a while.

CRio data logging too slow

Hi,
I am using a cRio 9074 in scan mode and I have a fairly simple timed loop that should run at 5-10mSec periods to operate a pwm control. I also need to do some data logging and save two input signals (at approx. 1kS/sec). However, when I use write to spreadsheet, the loop speed drops and my timed loop period goes up to 50mSec. How can I speed this up, and what is the efficient way to save data in scan mode.

The single best way to improve determinism is to divide your acquisition/logging into two distinct producer/consumer loops as VTHokie says. Next best improvement would probably be using a binary format file structure rather than Write to Spreadsheet, which converts all data to ASCII representation prior to writing to file. Writing to ASCII files rather than binary files degrades performance in four ways:
CPU must be used to do the number to text conversion
ASCII represented numbers lose precision and don't exactly convert back to original data
The filesize is larger
When you go to read the file, it's slower for the above three reasons
On the other hand, an ASCII file is more portable - e.g., you can easily import into a third-party spreadsheet analysis program. But who in their right mind would export data OUTSIDE of LabVIEW when it offers best-in-industry analysis tools?

you can use this debug function ... it writes debug statement
to a log file
(debug.log) in the same folder as teh script being run. It

Help! Call me stupid, or computer illiterate or whatever. But, I don't know what to do. All of my music is stored in ITunes. My computer is running really slow and I am running out of space. Can I delete my music without losing it? Will it still be held in my Itunes account? Thanks for the help

You need some kind of backup. If you just delete it from your PC and keep it on your iPod, when you need to restore your iPod (and you will, at some point) your music will be lost.
You'll either have to reburn CDs you own, or repurchase music from the iTunes store.

I am working on a php program to preprocess images. I want to

and portrait format images differently, and have written a
test program to copy
the original files to two different directories according to

program is working correctly, but after it has copied about
180 of the 200 files
in the directory I am trying it on it exceeds the maximum
permitted execution
time of 30 seconds and times out.
Can I do anything to extend the limit?

You can either reset the limit in your php.ini (if you have
access...),
or rewrite the function so that it gets called recursively.
That would start the execution-time timer again for every
function call.

Switch log file is too slow

hello,
my database is 10R2
the specified size of online redolog file is 50mb
the switching of log file is too slow..
even though the size of archived log file has become around 50,029,there is still no log switch of file..
why the log switch is not occuring immediately after the size reaches upto that limit(50,029)...?
what might be the setting do i need to do..
any help ....any guess ??

Hello,
The frequency of the log switch depends on the activity of the Database.
You may check the Alert log for some messages like this:
Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence ...
Checkpoint not completeWhile Oracle needs informations in the Redo log to complete the Checkpoint, it cannot reuse it. So, it can happen that the Database doesn't switch the redo log up to the Checkpoint is complete.

Often, it's solved by adding redo log files.
The Parameter fast_start_mttr_target may also help the Database to optimize the checkpoint:

Else, if you don't have this message ( checkpoint not complete ...), but you want to log switch more frequently (even if the Redo log is not completely full), you have the parameter archive_lag_target. It can help to force log switch every n+ seconds:

NB: It's not recommended to get log switch too frequently, in general you shouldn't have more than 3 or 4 log switchs every hour.

There is something Definitely wrong with iOS 7 regarding DATA USAGE being logged to wireless carrier in for WIFI instead.
I read all the previous replies and same issue.
I rarely use my mac to sync....its all wifi sync for the last 2 years....never had this issue before... and i know it began with iOS7.... here is why....
My iPhone was at home when I updated to iOS7 connected to wifi...but it logged Data Usage to Rogers Wireless (700MB approx)...data will never do an update over 50mb in app store (it gives the warning to use wifi) I play a lot of games and pay for them so I always update through App Store. 2 weeks later, simposons halloween update (650mb)...at home, using wifi.
Rogers told me there was 700+mb data usage on the day of update and 650+mb data on oct 1.st (tapped out).
Went over my 6GB plan and paid the fees.
This has never happened before...It must come to apples attention by now...

Checked to see how much free space there is on the startup disk lately?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

If disk space is not the issue, booting in Safe Mode deletes system caches that may help.
A Safe Mode boot takes longer then a normal boot so be patient.
Once you see the Desktop, click the Apple menu icon top left corner of the screen.
From the drop down menu click Restart.
See if that makes a difference ...

Apple has no support or provision for reverting to a previous iOS version.
Try a reset of your iPad by holding down the power button and hone button simultaneously until your iPad screen goes black and the Apple Logo reappears on screen, then let go of the buttons.

Read and follow the Bootcamp Installation instructions that you were offered to view when you ran Bootcamp Assistant.

Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:

haha, so now i'm thinking. I'm learning the terminal as fast as i can but there are several lines of codes and commands in there that throws up red flags to me that i don't fully understand. It just looks fishy too me. It would be highly appreciated if someone could just check this out just to tell me that i don't need to worry about it. Or point me in the right direction. You may not be able to get a refund, since the terms of sale for the iTunes Store state that all sales are final. You can contact the iTunes Store, explain the reason for your request, and ask, though:

It's possible they'll make an exception for you, particularly if the problem was on their end preventing the movie from downloading in a reasonable time.
