Long beeping on the raid card

having problem with my xserver g5 i just brought i disconnent the raid card to test a next xserver that was beeping and when i reinstall it in the next one it started to beep loud can anyone can tell me what i do wrong please

I came into the office this morning and the RAID Utility reports the Battery Status as "Charged" and now the Overall Status is "Good".
I don't know when it changed from Conditioning to Charged, but it has now been approx 19 hours since the install of the RAID card and battery so the charge time is definitely less than 72 hours.
Makes me think my interpretation of the FAQ page may have been correct.
If so it would be nice if the FAQ page answered the question about how long it takes to charge the battery. Where does one submit FAQ page improvement suggestions?

What happens if the Raid card battery goes dead?

I just got my MacPro, Raid card, and 3 SAS drive. I set it up as Raid 0. The battery in the Raid card is good for 72 hrs. And that is to save the raid cache. So what happens if I leave the MacPro unplugged for longer then 3 days and the battery goes dead? Do I loose all my data?

My iPad2 is no longer recognizing that the SIM card is installed. I keep ketting a "NO SIM CARD" message even though the card is in the slot. I've tried switching on and off, resetting and removing and then reinstalling the SIM card. Any ideas?

check with your service provider, may be there is a problem with the sim card, if yes
get a replacement sim or see if you can borrow one from someone just for TESTING purpose it it works

Not sure if I'm following you. I have 4 hard drives installed on my Mac Pro. I had a RAID 5 configured and functional for about 5 months. My battery died on the RAID card. I replaced the battery, seated the RAID card back in the slot I removed it from. When I booted to the USB drive to look in the RAID utility, I could see the battery is charged but my volumes are not showing.
The drives don't show in disk Utility. I built the RAID with the RAID Utility and they did show there. I have a early 2008 Mac Pro, Mavricks OS running Mac Server

RAID card beeping?

Our XServe stopped booting up (in fact, it doesn't seem to be able to find the hard drives anymore.) We pulled the RAID card and installed it as a test in a desktop G5 and the card started beeping. Some red LEDs at the end of the card lit up as well.
Is the card dead?

Removing the card probably wasn't the best solution.
Without getting too long winded, I'm the low man on the pole here and my supervisors wanted it done that way. This is mainly a PC shop and this is the only XServe we have. So you'll have to bear with me a bit here. I'm definitely a noob in this situation and those above me know even less (as far as Macs go, that is.)
You could have used the megaraid command on the server (booted from DVD) to diagnose the problem.
Thanks for the pointer. I've since done that. This is an older XServe and we have 3 hard drives. 1 is showing as online but 2 and 3 are showing FAILED in their status when I run megaraid -showdevices. I'm not sure if that means the drives are dead and need to be replaced or if they just need to be reformatted. If you have any additional tips, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Installed a RAID card in my Dell Inspiron 3847. However, the RAID BIOS does not show up and I cannot install Windows 7 to it.

That is basically a summary of the problem The Dell Inspiron 3847 does not come with RAID, so I tried installing a PCI-express 1x RAID card. However, the RAID BIOS never shows up. The HDDs show up when I install the RAID controller driver in Windows 7 setup, but I cannot install Windows 7. I am using an IOCrest SY-PEX40008 RAID card with a Silicon Image Sil3124 chipset.
I tried pressing the hotkeys for the RAID BIOS listed in the card's manual, but it seems to just cause bootup to freeze. BIOS also does not seem to detect the RAID card HDDs as boot options.

What's the difference in Apple RAID card battery error messages?

I have a Mac Pro with 2 quad core Intel Harpertown CPUs at 3.2GHz, and an Apple RAID card. RAID Utility shows that the battery failed but in my research, nobody explains the difference between "Battery failed (code 0x#0 = 17)" (which is what I have) and "Battery failed (code 0x#0 = 18)" or ""Battery failed (other than expired)" (the latter two are what everybody talks about) and what the code numbers mean. Speaking to a local AASP, they recommend that I just wait for a couple of days to see if it's doing the automatic 72-hour reconditioning operation since my Mac Pro is attached to a pretty hefty UPS (2200VA with nothing else attached) and power failures where I live are rare plus the write cache has been disabled so the RAID card is basically doing write-throughs at the moment. But curiosity about the various, different error codes and messages is getting the better of me. Thanks in advance.
Also, what's worrying me (since RAID Utility is so vague) is this entry I found under "Hardware RAID" in System Profiler:

As an update to this, once I replaced the RAID card battery (which was an absolute nightmare--the writer of the instructions at Apple obviously had never done it for real nor seen it done since they omit a lot of important things), the problem went away. But I'm still intrigued about what the error codes mean.

I have a few of these RAID cards in a couple servers, and then I have an earlier version of the RAID card in a few different servers.
The earlier servers are running non-apple 1.5 TB drives. It will be interesting to learn if this firmware update will indeed allow me to boost the capacity by installing non-apple drives, as the firmware previously has not.

You don't see drives when using a hardware RAID only the volumes.
WD Green are not suitable for hardware RAID (or software RAID for that matter).
USB2 and TimeMachine are a disaster waiting to happen. I've used SATA (internal) and eSATA (using SATA PCIe cards) trouble-free.

You don't load TimeMachine. Maybe seems minor but that is not how to describe the behavior of software.

Is the Apple Mac Pro RAID card (v 2.0) compatible with the Mac Pro (v. 1.1)?

Just wondering if any of you experts know if the Apple Mac Pro RAID card (v 2.0) is functional with the Mac Pro (v 1.1)?
I have an original Mac Pro and a new (black) Mac Pro RAID card. I would like to know if I can get any functionality.
I initially thought that the only difference was that the later RAID card did not have the same limitations on the HDs. I am aware that my original Mac Pro has a SATA II bus rather than a SATA III bus- but I am hoping this will not present any issues other than speed.
I am currently using Disk Utility for a striped software RAID (0) but would like to move to a parity hardware RAID (5); hence the purchase. If this isn't possible I'm not overly concerned as I managed to get hold of the RAID card for next to nothing so thought I would take the chance.
Any feedback would be appreciated as everything I've dug up online over the past few days has been a little inconclusive.

The black-substrate card requires a 2009 or later model, and works only in slot 4, which has a special connector for it there.
The blue-substrate card requires the ipass cable and connector feature in the 2008 and older models.
These cards are both showing their age, and limit drive size to 2.2TB each. Their data-backup batteries have been extremely troublesome. You should probably look at other alternatives as well.

Xserve G5 turns on but no os startup and loud long beep over and over

I just got my hands on a xserve that was decommissioned from a datacenter. This morning I had the thing running and I could see it from my mac mini or mbp. I just couldn't screen share b/c i guess it wasn't enabled...not sure. couldn't ssh either, but at that time I didn't have the server tools. B/c the server wasn't really doing much I thought I would turn it off while I read some manuals, etc,etc. But the moment I turned it back on to use the server tools I downloaded I get a loud long beep that keeps on repeating. I tried resent nvram pram and every other option on the bootpanel that seemed logical.
Description:
I turn Xserve G5 on -> goes through what seems to be a POST (ie. check cd, fans, other peripherals, then HDD) -> Once green HDD lights are on, momentarily the blue ones flicker and go off -> then what seems to be a moment of nothing and after that the loud beeping noise.
The OSX server CDs have yet to arrive so I am waiting on them and also counting on them that a re-install will fix my problems but in the meanwhile I have searched everywhere and i see that people have similar issues but NONE of the solutions work for me. There was one case that was exactly the same as mine on the apple discussion but did not get answered (maybe I should have revived that thread). I've called apple and I have the numbers they gave me to get my xserve checked out but I am not a company, nor an institution with a lot of money. I am merely a 3rd year college student who finally earned enough money to purchase a second hand xserve g5 for a very very nice price. I would really love to be able to diagnosis and fix it without having to spend more money.
Any help is very much appreciated but I understand if it is not possible due to the nature of the problem.

EDIT: Would a HDD failure or data corruption cause theses symptoms if the operating system cannot be located?
I just can't get this off my head...An xserve that worked in the morning and "dead" in the afternoon.

Sorry for my late reply. Thanks for the tip. I've searched online to figure out a way to rebuild the raid array remotely, since it is headless and the only way it seems like is through the installation disk via VNC. Is this correct? So far I have been unsuccessful with that too. I did read an article recommending using diskutils through terminal but is there way to do that instead in my case?

Ps. it's not locked and I've checked the voltage on the PRAM battery and it seems fine. I had the raid card replaced too (expensive )

I own as above a MAC PRO (Early 2008) this has a RAID card installed along with two 15k.7 cheetah hdd (320gb) and a spare drive, (which i made a regular drive)
a while ago i had to replace the RAID card battery, so i did this, over a year later the same thing happened again, but as previous just left it and the system seemed fine for ages, until last night i was working in PHOTOSHOP and everything just froze and the screen kind of appeared GREEN, could not do a single thing. So restarted the mac, this time grey screen for ages and a message appeared, (macs version of blue screen) (see attached).
I restarted the machine and this time a flashing question mark folder!
could not do a thing.
so i found my copy of snow leopard and got the computer to run this and at least launch the DISK UTILITY and (Interestingly in the drop down menu RAID UTILITY was also in the menu) but it did not matter which utility i used the (RAID or DISK) neither could see any of drives, just the dvd drive.
so looked around on you tube and various forums and discovered if i take out the RAID CARD and re-plug the main lead from the RAID card back in to the LOGIC BOARD I would be reverting the MAC to a normal regular non-RAID computer.
After performing this HARDWARE task and inserting all three HDD, and running the DISK utility from the drop down menu via the SNOW LEOPARD disc.
(interestingly since the RAID card had been removed the RAID UTILITY from the drop down menu no longer appeared). running disk utility I can now only see the regular (spare) hdd and DVD Drive, but the two RAID HDD , again, still do not show up DISK UTILITY?
O.K. so i could chuck out the RAID card (AND RAID HDD) and just go with a regular set-up, and run a back restore from Time Machine on a NEW hdd purchased.
but what is wrong with the RAID, is the card at fault or are both HDD used for the RAID knackered? can i perform any tests, to see whats what?

hello people, the issue was in fact the GRAPHICS card nothing to do with the HDD or RAID system ( although this did cause issues with the RAID system it basically lost its way) below is my replay to another similar problem some one else had!
working in photoshop and then everything stopped working and the lot froze! only option was to force shutdown (via button).
and try to restart, hoping all was fine, this was not the case :-(
I had the added issue of the RAID card system, that i have, this was confused to say the lease and would not behave or work, causing the start up to hang.
so i thought the HDD must be bust and the root cause. ( but soon learnt it was not the cause )
...bought a new HDD removed the RAID card and replugged the cable from RAID card into LOGIC board, ( making the computer act like any normal non-RAID system). I managed to install the OSX, using the snow leopard disk way. once the mac was running, i started to notice the screen would flicker and started to see 'artefacts'. so i started to reveal my symptoms to the web and forums and soon discovered that my graphics card could be the issue all along?.
(nvidia geforce 8800gt 2x dvi).
I read up on that a fix, could be either A. reply the thermal paste, as the card could be over heating or B. stick the card in the oven trick.
Tried option A. first and nothing still issues, so last night took the plunge carried out option B. and ta da it worked! i even managed to run
from my new HDD my lasted install OS X, absolutely fine. I then thought, maybe i could repair my RAID so replugged all the HARDWARD back in and
carried out a disk repair and disk permissions on drives( took a small amount of time), via the SNOW LEOPARD disc - (Disk utilities) and this worked and now have my system working as it was just over 6 days ago.
what was the cost to get this? bought a new hdd so 40.00gbp and thermal paste and cleaner kit ( your still need to do this ) search video card trick on you tube.
and renew thermal paste, approx 15.00gbp, technically i don't need the new HDD, but it was all part of the trial and error way i went. ( i do have extra storage as a result!)"

Using a Mac Pro w / Apple Internal Hardware RAID Card?

Anyone using a Mac Pro with a Apple Hardware RAID Card 2010?

Is it worth the $600-700 ?
How much faster than the software RAID 0?
I see Hamm's RAID tips chart .. but it doesn't include such options .. plus it is based on a PC system.
Any tips would be great ..
I find many areas where the application is slow / unresponsive .. and I'm not sure where the bottleneck is ... Maybe the hardware RAID will solve it?
I'm really am impressed with CS5 .. it would be even better with some adjustments .. but I am absolutely disappointed with sluggish performance on my top-of-the-line Mac Pro 12 Core.
This is not what I expected for a $8,000 machine.
Some users says that the port of CS5 for the Mac has taken a back seat to the Windows version at Adobe.
I can't imagine that Adobe would not put 100% effort into Mac products.

I have a 2009 Mac Pro 3.33GHz Quad core w/ Apple RAID card, 16GB RAM from OWC, and Apple's Radeon HD 5870 GPU.
I have RAID 0 set across 3x1TB drives internally, and the standard 640GB drive for OSX and all program files. I set all video assets, renders, previews and such on the 3TB RAID.
This seems to work wonderfully. I built this system specifically to edit a feature film shot on P2 DVCProHD, and I've been impressed with how it handles it. This was all built prior to CS5, which took me by surprise. Had I known nVidia would become such a problem for Apple, I would have built a PC, but that's another story.
I just started a new project in CS5 on the same system, this time using H.264 video from my Nikon D7000, and so far, it seems to play just as nicely, despite not having hardware acceleration via CUDA technology. Yellow bars on top, even. I haven't had any problems with clips taking a long time to populate on the timeline or any of that, so perhaps the RAID card helps there.
All this aside, I've already decided to upgrade my RAID for another reason. Right now, my backup is performed via an eSATA-connected external drive through a PCI eSATA card. After every edit session, I dump everything on the RAID onto the external drive, and it goes much faster than the old FW800 transfer used to. I'm about to replace my Apple RAID card with an Areca card and set up a 4-bay RAID 3 via an SAS connection. This will allow for excellent data throughput while offering more security than my current RAID 0 / manual backup system, and free up the internal drives for backups, exports and render files.
I believe in hardware RAID, but I'm not as knowledgeable as Harm and others are about it. I had my Mac built to order with the Apple RAID card, so I have no experience using Premiere with a software RAID. Due to my smooth experience using it, I think it was worth it, but plenty of people say the Apple RAID card is rubbish, and to go with Areca or Atto cards. I didn't know about them until after I built my system, and even though it will cost a couple thousand to upgrade my RAID from this point, I expect to have an even better system than I already have.

XServe 2006 RAID Card Issues

Basically, I was gifted (some gift!) a Late 2006 XServe 2.0GHz Dual QX, with 4 GB RAM, and basically was told 'It does not boot. We give up.'
So heres what I have found so far..
It has an Apple Raid Card (don't ask me much more than that, or ill have to tear it apart again). But the 10.4.10 Install disk doesnt show the Raid card or drives (SATA Apple Drive Module 80.0). So is my card toast? Not supported by 10.4? Need a direction to run at because this thing is starting really get under my skin.
If I use a SATA Drive bay via USB (WD 80GB Drive), the disk appears, but the Server won't last long before it Kernel Panics, but it works during Installation Media Verification..
In the meantime, Ill tear apart the server again (Only a few minutes) and get the Raid Card ID.

An easy way to see if it's a raid card is on the part of the RAID/Backplane you can see when you slide the top cover off, if it has 2 chips with silver heatsinks on it's a RAID card if it's 1 chip it's a backplane. The RAID Card also has a small connection for a RAID battery..
as for why it doesn't work.. Have a look at the following
1) Do the drives light up when you start the machine.. You should see a green light (always on) and a blue activity light which should flash.
2) If it doesn't then there is an orange ribbon cable that goes from the RAID/Backplane to the logic board. Make sure this is properly connected and doesn't have any breaks in it.
The RAID card will work in a non raid configuration so you don't need to get rid of it if you don't want to. An easy option to check the server would be to install 10.6 or Lion on a USB stick and start the server up for it by plugging it in and holding down the ALT key when you power on the server. From the system profiler you should be able to see if it recognises the RAID card (Hardware RAID) and also if it passes it's diagnostics test.
There are of course a lot of things that could be wrong with it.. You can remove the RAID/Backplane board and start the server up from USB/Firewire to narrow down your testing.. One thing the 2006/2008 servers are pretty cheap on eBay in working form so you might find it better to get one from there. The 2009's hold their value a lot more as you can still install the current OS on them..

Does AppleCare Cover my Raid Card

I purchased a fairly expensive Mac Pro system in Feb 2008 and purchased the Applecare protection plan which is good through Feb 2011. Back then, had 5TB plus lots of extras so not cheap. I've bought 5 Macs over the years, each time with a Plan, never tried to use it before, but looks like I may need to this time.
About six months ago my raid card started to regularly show a "write cache disabled due to insufficient battery charge" messag. It would charge up, but then very quickly show the message ago. About two months ago, it seemed to become a permanent problem. I spent some time with it and realize that the Raid Card is no longer working due to insufficient battery charge.
Every place which discusses this on Forums seems to indicate it can't be fixed by myself, but means the card needs to be replaced.
Is it covered as part of my Applecare Plan? The Raid Card came installed with the Mac Pro. What do I do to get it replaced or fixed?
Note: I live in Taiwan.
