LONG RAW - Conversion Error

Hi,
We are having a d/b with oracle 7.0 having a column LONG RAW. Client Signatures are stored in the form of Tiff in this column. We are now trying to extract the same and write it in the file system of a different server.
We are encountering a peculiar problem. For certain cases the conversion and writing part goes of smoothly, but for some cases we are getting an ORACLE error ORA-1460 conversion error while using UTL_RAW.CAST_TO_VARCHAR2 .
This does not happen for all cases, please help us solve the same

    I am having problem with a sproc which accepts a Raw parameter.
    I have a table called Profile:
    CREATE TABLE PROFILES

    USERID INTEGER NOT NULL,
    PROFILE RAW(255)
    and a sproc named addprofile
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE addprofile

    INSERT INTO Profiles
    ( ProfileID,userId , profile )
    VALUES ( Profiles_ProfileID_SEQ.NEXTVAL,AddProfile.userId ,
    AddProfile.profile );
    END;
    I am calling the Ent Library's Insert profile method which is part of DbProfileProvider.cs (Security App block). It is trying to persist a serialized profile object into the database.

    (SPAddProfile);
    cmd.AddInParameter("userName", DbType.String, userName);
    cmd.AddInParameter("profile", DbType.Binary, serializedProfile);
    securityDb.ExecuteNonQuery(cmd, transaction);
    I get the following error:

  • Web service call on hosted env fails with hex to raw conversion error

    Hi,
    I use Enciva to run some hosted Apex applications, and I've had a call open with them for a few days re: setting up a web service call to an e-mail checker, provided by a company called Rolosoft. The e-mail checker runs fine from outside the hosted environment, but I get the following error trying to call from the Apex application:
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: hex to raw conversion error
    Has anyone hit this error before with web services, I've tried manual and RESTful but get the same error message.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    We encounter the same issue using manual WebService !

  • How to insert data from file into long raw field using utl_file?

    I try to insert binary data from a file (under AIX 4.3.3) into a LONG
    RAW field (Oracle 8.1.6).
    First, I retrieve the data from the file like this:
    DECLARE
    FileHandle = UTL_FILE.FILE_TYPE;
    myVariable LONG RAW;
    FileHandle := UTL_FILE.FOPEN ;('prj/oracle/admin/MARTIJN/udump',
    'MyFile.ATT', 'R');
    UTL_FILE.GET_LINE (FileHandle, myVariable);
    UTL_FILE.FCLOSE(FileHandle);
    INSERT INTO myTable(DUMMYFIELD) VALUES(myVariable);
    Where DUMMYFIELD of table myTable is of type LONG RAW.
    The GET_LINE statement crashes on Oracle Error ORA-6502: Numeric of
    Value error: hex to raw conversion error.
    What do I do wrong?
    Do I use the right method to retrieve information from a file and put
    it into a long raw field, should I try it another way?
    Any help greatly appreciated,
    Martijn Rutte

    Zarina,
    To clarify your problem, you have a script node contaning your Matlab code. Are you then using the standard LV functions to load in your data from a file and pass it into the script node?

  • LONG RAW to CLOB Conversion

    I wish to migrate records of a col. FILETYPE (LONG RAW) of existing table to col. DOCTYPE (CLOB) of a new table.
    But the function to_lob() is unable to carry out the required migration. The Error message is : " Inconsistent Data Types expected - binary .... ".
    Moreover LONG RAW to BLOB conversion works fine from a simple INSERT statement but the same fails when insertion is done using a CURSOR.
    Can u guyz help me in doing the same !
    Oracle Version used - 9i
    Regards,
    Chinmay <Infocker>

    You can transfer data from
    LONG to CLOB
    LONG RAW to BLOB only..
    In Oracle9i -- there is a very cool "alter table t modify long_col CLOB" to do
    this as well....
    you could convert a clob to a blob, or a blob to a clob using utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2/raw and doing it 32k at a time.

  • "Unable to save the raw conversion settings. There was a write permission error."

    I just built a new workstation for processing photos using PS CS5. I use external drives to store my images as I find it easier for backing up as well as for when I want use my laptop for sorting, etc.. I copied over all my old "Collection" files, and of course, had to "fix" them once on the new machine. Once pointed in the right direction, the collections all fill out correctly.
    When I go to process a collection though, I encounter an odd problem I can't seem to sort out. I can delete files, rename files, copy/paste to the external drives, etc.. What I can't seem to do is add Labels, Ratings, or modify RAW settings. I mean, I can use ACR to make adjustments, I just can't seem to save them.
    The system just ignores label, rating commands completely. When I try to save an ACR adjustment I get this error. "Unable to save the raw conversion settings. There was a write permission error."
    The files are NOT write protected. I'm set up as the owner of my workstation, with complete control of the system. I can't seem to find any useful information about this error because the "write permission error" seems to only be happening on installs, so that's all I can find help for.
    My system:
    Intel Core i7 970@ 3.20GHZ
    24.0 GB RAM
    64-bit OS - Windows 7 Pro
    DX58S02 Motherboard
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580

    Thanks for replying. I've been going crazy trying to fix this.
    To answer your first question; I use sidecar XMP files. If everything from my archive was shot in RAW I'd try converting to DNG and see if embedding the changes directly in a file worked. Unfortunately, a lot of my old stuff was shot in JPG, so sidecars seems to be the best choice.
    When I add labels, ratings, as well as change RAW settings on files I place on my workstations HD everything works. It's only when I try to do these things with the same files on removable drives that I run into trouble. The drives I use are Transcend 640GB StoreJet 25ms connected via USB.
    I don't think it's a UAC problem. At least, to my understanding, doesn't that control how your machine alerts you to program changes? I looked into how to change ownership, and did so, but that didn't work. Here's a link to what I mean: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/windows-7-access-denied-permission-ownership/
    I'm stumped. I also hate the idea that I'll have to go through various folders to find images from already created collections, copy them to a new folder on my HD and then work on them. Then I'll have to put them all back... ugghhhh

  • Error when querying long raw

    Hi,
    I am using developer 6i with oracle 10.2.0.4 on win 2008.
    I created a table as below:
    create table image_table (filename varchar2(255) primary key, image long raw);
    i created a trigger in forms to upload a image and store the link in the database. The image is stored in a directory.
    The image link is saved in image_table.
    But when i query the table, i get the below error
    SQL> select * from image_table;
    ERROR:
    ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes
    no rows selected
    When i query the table in TOAD, i get the output as
    FILENAME, IMAGE
    ateeq, (BLOB)
    Please suggest how to solve this problem.
    Thanks,

    the LONG and LONG RAW datatype have been deprecated in Oracle 8.0, in 1998, so 14 years ago!
    Is there any sound reason why you can't use a BLOB?
    a LONG ROW column can not be displayed directly, so a
    select * from image_table
    where one of the columns is a LONG RAW is expected not to work,
    and if you would have read documentation (which you never do, I remember you from previous doc questions), you would have known and not have asked Yet Another Redundant Question!

  • Ctxload ( LONG RAW column export error)

    Hi,
    Does any one know why CTXLOAD utility would generates this error:

    for this ctxload line
    ctxload -user system/****** -export -name ecproducts.products -file prodpic.dat -pk 1153
    The context information is setup correctly because we are using the intermedia text

    I did use export utility to export data from one database and used the import utility to load data into another database. But for some reason the application (Aiba) is not seeing the picture stored in the LONG RAW column (my presumption is that exp/imp utility can not handle LONG RAW columns). Everything else seems to load file (although I did not get any error during the import process). Is there a bug in the export/import utility that I am not aware of for exporting/importing LONG RAW columns???.

  • 6i to 9i conversion OLE container stored in a LONG RAW column to BLOB

    I need to automate the migration of data stored in a long raw column to a blob column. The objects were stored in the long raw column using an Oracle Forms 6i OLE container. There is also multiple object types stored in the column, ie (word, excel, images, but mostly pdf's). I have looked at the webutil package but cannot figure out how to read the long raw column since ole containers are obsolete in 9i. I have a lot of records that need migrating and need help.

    It doesn't appear that I am able to attach the PDF files.  Can you supply your email (or I can supply mine) so I can send you the three files:
    1.)  A good PDF (manually extracted from our old application)
    2.)  Dump of the same PDF file (includes header/footer info)
    3.)  A partially fixed PDF file (but some of the pictures / pages are cut off - specifically pages 3,5,9,10,12,14)
    The way that we have tried to fix the file (in example 3 above) is the following:
    a.)  Find the First Occurrence of "%PDF-"
    b.)  Find the Last Occurrence of "%%EOF"
    c.)  if the first "%PDF-" is found AND the last "%%EOF" is found, then
       i.)  Remove all data before the first %PDF-
       ii.)  Remove all data after the last %%EOF
    Let me know if you need any other information.

    is it possible to increase the size of the buffer ? how may i do it ?
    Thx in advance.
    Regards.

    Using a custom UPDATE or INSERT stored procedure for LONG RAW column with
    exceed-limit data may still get the following error.
    "ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested".
    One option is to use BLOB instead of LONG RAW in your table and regenerate your
    data model from the table. Then using the default UPDATE or INSERT statement
    (created by EF) should work.
    The following will modify your LONG RAW column to BLOB column.
    Disclaimers:
    1. It's irreversible--you cannot modify BLOB back to LONG RAW.
    2. I have not tried that when there are huge data in LONG RAW column.
    So be careful.
    alter table <your_table_name> modify <your_long_raw_type_column> blob;

    What is the valid values of this column that you need to use varchar2(4000)? Are you sure this column include valid numbers?

  • Load image file into a LONG RAW column via SQL*Loader

    Does anyone know how to load a image file into a LONG RAW column via SQL*Loader?
    Thanks
    -Hsing-Hua-

    Are you trying to import the image on the client into Oracle lite, or from the server end into the main oracle database for download to the client?
    On our system images are loaded into the the oracle lite database (10g R1 at the moment) on the client (DELL X50 PDA's) into a BLOB (Not LONG RAW) column using Java (relatively standard functionality in Java) as this is what our application software is written in.
    From the server end, we do not at the moment load images as such, but we do load the application software into the database for deployment of new versions to the clients (the DMC/DMS updates we have found very unreliable), and the technique should be the same for images. Again the file is imported into a BLOB column.
    NOTE a column defined as BLOB on the main Oracle database appears as a LONG VARBINARY on the client Oracle lite database, but the synchronisation process handles the conversion with no problem.
    To import into a BLOB column on the server try the following
    1) you will need to create a DIRECTORY (CREATE DIRECTORY command) within the database, pointing at a directory on the database server (or accessible from it). This is needed for the file location.
    CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY PDA_FILE_UPLOAD AS '/pdaapps/jar/'
    NOTE create directory needs to be run as SYSTEM
    2) define your table to hold the image and other data. Our tables is
    SQL> desc pda_applications
    Name Null? Type
    ID NOT NULL NUMBER(12)
    PDAAT_CODE NOT NULL VARCHAR2(10)
    VERSION NOT NULL NUMBER(5,2)
    PART_NO NOT NULL NUMBER(3)
    FILE_OBJECT BLOB
    DEPLOY_APPLICATION_YN NOT NULL VARCHAR2(1)
    3) copy the image (or in our case a .jar file) to the database server directory specified in step 1
    4) the actual import is done using a DBMB_LOB procedure
    PROCEDURE pr_load_file
    Module Name     :     pr_load_file
    Description     :     Main call. Create a new pda_applications record, and import the specified file into it

  • I can not put the data of a field(LONG RAW) consulted into a item of a data block

    I want to query a field that is LONG RAW(it's a image) and put the data into a item of a data block (in Forms Builder), when i write ":BLOCK.FOTO:=vfoto" i recieve this errors: "bad bind variable ....". How can i put the data of field of my DB and put the data in a item of a data block(in Forms Builder)?.
    I can store a image in a table of my DB, but i want to query a image stored in my DB and put it into anothers table, all this on FORMS BUILDER.

    You have to base the image item on a base table and use EXECUTE_QUERY on that block. You can't do a direct select in PL/SQL into the item

  • I have an A77 and see that DxO RAW conversions look different

    Several RAW conversion comparisons on the web amongst A77 users are pointing to markedly better conversions and noise handling currently within new DxO 7 eg. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1037&thread=39970661
    I know that Sony's RAW have historically taken a while to arrive at optimal conversions from previous experinece with my A350. When Lightroom 3 came along it was like getting new cameras for most Sony Alpha users with from RAW performance at last matching Nikon from effectively the same sensors.
    Can you let me know the likely time lag till ACR and Lightroom will have an update to this initial default to really match the DxO performance. Otherwise, to be honest, despite being a Lightroom user since the original Beta stages and a passionate supporter and advocate, I may have to consider jumping ship. Working exclusively in RAW I do need to be using the very best conversions possible to make the best out of my investment in my camera equipment.
    I don't know if this lag with ARW conversions is because Sony don't co-operate with Adobe early enough or whether because Sony is only number three in DSLR share it gets less priority within Adobe than Canon and Nikon, but some timeline on a revised version of Lightroom to address this for the new Sony Alphas would be great.
    Many thanks from a long time advocate who really hopes I can stick with Lightroom,
    Cheers,
    Paul

    Hi Hal,
    Many thanks...I’ll give it a try. Not trying to cause trouble as I genuinely am a fan of LR, but if they always lag on getting to grips with Sony RAWs it’s a major drawback for Sony users.
    Cheers,
    Paul
