Lossless songs available via iTunes, or only compressed?

Is there any way to purchase lossless (.wav, .aiff, .whatever) songs on iTunes, or are compressed songs my only option?
From what I hear iTunes "plus" is maybe a less compressed and better quality file (but larger). Still, I'm hoping for lossless.
Thanks.

The iTunes Store only sells AAC songs at this time. Music isn't available in any other format.

  • No songs available via iTunes plus

    Hi,
I was delighted to see that with the new iTunes plus announcement I would finally be able to free my iTunes songs. Unfortunately it seems that is not the case. I have updated to iTunes 8.0.2.2, but I can't see the link to iTunes plus in the iTunes store. Today I finally found an iTunes plus ad on the store site, but when I clicked on it I got a message saying there are no new songs available to upgrade.
What might be wrong? I have about a 1,000 songs, most of them from the iTunes store. I would have thought that at least some of them would be upgradeable.
Could this have something to do with a problem I had with iTunes plus when it was first announced? I tried once to upgrade a bunch of EMI songs, but I just got an error after which iTunes plus always told me that there are no songs available to upgrade.

It's possible, I suppose, that none of your tracks have been made available in iTunes Plus format yet, but it's unlikely that none of them are unless you just happen to buy only artists for whom their label hasn't yet come on board. You can check by doing a Power Search for some of the tracks/albums you have and see if they're listed as being iTunes Plus. If they are, then assuming that you're logged into the iTunes Store using the account through which those tracks were purchased (if in doubt, get Info on the track and look at the Summary pane), then it's probably one of the errors or overloads that the iTunes Store is struggling with right now. Wait a couple of weeks and see if the matter clears up on it's own, and if it doesn't, contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department using the form at the bottom of the Purchase Issues FAQ web page and explain the problem to them.
    Regards.

  • An idiot abroad??   I am trying to find a way to download an idiot abroad.  It's not available via ITunes, and flash player is not supported, and I'm a beginner.  Any advice...??

Hi, I would like to download "an idiot abroad". It doesn't seem to be available via iTunes.  I can get it via Amazon but flash player is not supported by Mac.  Any ideas?  Thanks,

There's no legal way to play videonfiles purchased and downloaded from Amazon on your iPad. Sorry.

  • Strange digital artifacts at the end of each song importing via iTunes

I've tried a few variations on archive searches and wasn't able to find an answer to this: In ripping some of my CD's into iTunes (either Apple Lossless or WAV) I've been getting some very odd, brief digital artifacts at the end of each songs on a CD. This sounds like two or three seconds of an audio tape on fast forward. It only seems to happen on new releases (I cannot think of any older CD's it's occurred on). I just got a copy of Mary Gauthier's new album (great CD by the way) and it happened on that one, for example. I tried ripping it multiple times in Apple Lossless, and WAV (always in iTunes) and each and every time it created files where this strange artifact existed at the end of every song. I play the CD I ripped the files from and the artifact is not there. I have several CD's, most of them recent releases over the past five years, that do the exact same thing. Otherwise everything else functions perfectly an the bulk of my 700+ CD library has imported without a hiccup. Is this some kind of anti-piracy technology...or do I simply have some setting off in my itunes preferences (Error-Correction is on, WAV or Apple Lossless is always set to Automatic, have experimented with importing to startup disk and external disk-same results). The artifacts seem to always sound the same too...they never vary, except that they sound different from song-to-song, but the same if say, the first cut is played over again. They are always 2 seconds plus or minus, and always at the end of a cut (the final 2 seconds or so). They do transfer verbatim to my iPod, and also play via iTunes through my stereo.
Anyone have any clues what this might be?

As a follow up, I went to the Genius Bar for a bowl of Mensa Stew, but only got some tepid broth. Here's what transpired:
The girl I was speaking with suggested that the artifact was the software misinterpreting information between the cuts. It was only a theory. She had not heard of any other incidents to relay. First she suggested I rip as MP3's. I explained that wasn't an option for me. She listened to a few cuts on a CD I'd brought with, or rather the ends of the cuts and confirmed there was a problem with the rip. She went through my settings, and asked if I'd tried it with Error Correction turned off. I explained I hadn't and that I preferred to use it. She suggested attempting to rip one of the cuts with it turned off just to see how it did. We did that and no artifact was there. So her 'solution' was to either leave error-correction turned off always, or turn it off for those problem CD's that produce the artifact (I'd estimate about 5% do on my laptop). This did not explain why it was doing it, nor why my g5 tower, which is running a carbon-copied system with all the same iTunes settings, does not produce the artifact with Error-Correction turned on.
I'd be interested to hear of anyone else who's been having problems importing hi-rez files in iTunes. I know of at least one other instance where the artifact produced (on a MacBook) is dis-similar to mine in that it takes the form of brief electronic beeps moving from channel to channel.
    Anyone else?

  • Songs purchased via iTunes - the 'red cloud'

    Hi
I would like to understand why, once I have synched the iPhone, the songs/albums I have purchased via iTunes appear on the iPhone with a red cloud. As far as I understand the red cloud means that it is not actually loaded into the phone but is in the 'iCloud'. I first noticed this when I was at work and wanted to listen to an album I had bought (a long time ago) via iTunes. As there is no WiFi where I work I could not listen to the album. Why, if I have selected an album to be synched with the phone and I have paid for it cannot I not load it onto my phone?
If there is a function in iTunes that does this I cannot find it.
Can anyone explain to me why this happens and how I can prevent it from happening again?
    Thanks

    Laura...

  • Getting Album Artwork for songs NOT in iTunes and ONLY on iPod

    Hello
Am I missing something obvious here? I am struggling with the album artwork feature for use in the coverflow section of the iPod Classic 80GB. I do NOT keep all of my songs in iTunes as my laptop hard drive is just not big enough.
My problem is that highlighting the songs on my iPod once I've connected it to iTunes then selecting Get Album Artwork simply doesn't work. Only trawling through countless forums on various websites I've discovered that possibly the artwork is only updated for songs you have in the iTunes library or only for songs bought on iTunes. I have 1000s of CDs I've uploaded onto my iPod (surely lots of people do not keep their music in iTunes for the same reason as me - small hard drive?)
There MUST be a software fix for this problem that could be issued out? Or if not, somebody should come up with a fix on an independent website. By the way, all of my tracks on the iPod have had their info obtained from the Gracenotes system used through iTunes so not having matching info to iTunes cannot be a reason for the lack of artwork can it?
I'd love to hear a solution to this problem.
    Thanks

My problem is that highlighting the songs on my iPod once I've connected it to iTunes then selecting Get Album Artwork simply doesn't work.
Correct. It's meant to access your iTunes library and add artwork from the iTunes store.
There MUST be a software fix for this problem that could be issued out?
Nothing that I know of because it's meant to work this way.
By the way, all of my tracks on the iPod have had their info obtained from the Gracenotes system used through iTunes so not having matching info to iTunes cannot be a reason for the lack of artwork can it?
No, because as I say, it's meant to add artwork in the iTunes library (although even this can sometimes be an issue if the album info obtained from Gracenote doesn't match what's in the iTunes store.)
If an iPod is set to manage the songs manually, then it's possible to add the artwork to the songs directly onto the iPod (when looking at them through iTunes) without adding it to the songs in iTunes. Just copy paste an album image from (say) Amazon into the artwork box in the bottom left corner when looking at the songs on your iPod through iTunes.
However, I have found that if you are adding artwork directly to the iPod via iTunes and not to songs in the library first of all, then some (or all) artwork may not display correctly.

  • Movies Almost Famous and Almost Heros error on TV, but avail via iTunes

When I try to access Almost Heroes or Almost Famous via my TV I get an error that iTunes store is unavailable, yet any other movie can be accessed just fine. I can access the details on both the above movies via iTunes on my laptop, including playing the trailer.
It seems like the TV format for these movies are corrupt in the iTMS.

It doesn't matter whether it's rent or buy, I just cannot access the entry for the movie at all; I do a search, see the title, try to click on it with the remote to see details and I get the error.
It seems like I could buy the same movie on my laptop (haven't actually gone through with the purchase) and transfer it over. It's very odd that it's only happening for some movies and not all. I thought it might be movies from the same studio, but that's not it. I also thought it might be alphabetical, but later I found another movie that didn't start with "Almost" that had the same problem.

  • HT3951 Some of my songs in my itunes account only partially play. Same for my iphone. I have tried redownloading purchased songs but it is still doing it.

I had songs on my iphone that played great. Then when I synced my iphone to my computer some songs would only partially play. I repurchased/downloaded the songs into my itunes account and tried to resync. Now a lot of my songs only partially play both in my itunes account and on my iphone. What is going on and what do I need to do to get all of my purchased music onto my phone and in my itunes account?

Thi is happening to both my wife and me.  We have different iPhones (4 and 4S) and different computer (MacBook and MacBookPro).  The problem still hasn't been solved and it' concerning that pple doesn't respond to this thread or the archived ones back to 2007.

  • Updated to ios5 cant edit song info via itunes anymore

Here's what's going on. I updated my OS on iPod Touch and when I did, all my content on it got deleted sans photos and contact info. Not too big of a deal but now when I drag songs from my music folder in windows and edit the song info in iTunes (i.e. changing Sade to Everything But The Girl) it does so in iTunes but the info isn't changed on my iPod. Any info would help and keep my hair in. Email [email protected]

    Problem Solved:
#1) after you install iTunes and reboot as it tells you to you must start up the program then log out of the program
#2) reboot 1 more time (this is redundant but you must do it to get your equalizer working and the ability to edit your song information).
    Everything is working correctly now.

  • Song "plays" in iTunes but only a moment of sound via Airtunes

I am using iTunes 8.0.2. I am using the airport express as airtunes v. 6.3. When I select my airtunes speakers in iTunes and play the song, I get a split second of audio and then complete silence. iTunes continues to play the song (you can see the tracker moving and the time ticking down. However, there is no more audio. My firewall is configured to allows iTunes. I never had this problem until recently. I have not changed any settings on my router.
    Thanks for your help!

I have exactly the same problem for some time now. (since upgrading to iTunes 8). Installed all latest updates, have my airport exchanged, tried all things with firewall, ip v6 settings etc. but still no results.
Using a ping command (via terminal) to my airport I can see that the ping goes up from normal to thousands of milliseconds thus indicating network congestion of some kind.
Rollback to a previous version of iTunes is not an option because I also use it to sync my iPhone.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • 1000  songs on sync iTunes, but only 40+ shows up on phone

I just updated the iOS 8.2
Then I just added more songs after the update, so in total its about 1100+ songs. Then the next day I'm ready to go out for a walk, and only 40 of these songs showed up. But when I sync on the iTunes it shows I have all the 1100 songs on my phone, but they dont show up. This has happened before but the difference was all the songs were gone from my phone, but not on iTunes.
I hate iTunes for that. Every update it's a disaster...

When the media on the device won't update as expected during a sync the method that usually works is this:
Export the contents of the camera roll. (You should do this routinely anyway.)
Backup the device, unless you have a recent backup that you would prefer to restore.
Restore as a new device. (The general restore process doesn't seem to clear things out before reloading, so there can be issues with missing artwork or incorrect capacity calculations.)
    Restore the chosen backup.
In some cases it might pay to use the recovery mode method given in HT201263: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch at step 3 to ensure that a device has been completely reset before reloading your content.

  • Is there a way to see a list of songs  bought via iTunes?

here's the situation...I was updating a friends iphone, it backed up and all was going well until it hung up in the middle and iTunes closed. I had to reset the phone (can't rememebr the term) anyway all contacts came back but not all the apps or songs that she bought with the phone. Is there a way to get a list of songs bought to the phone from iTunes so she can just put them back on. OR since the phone did backup to the computer where are they on the computer??
    Thanks,
    Mike

In iTunes on the computer, you can pull up your account (forget which menu item up top). From there you can pull up purchase history. It pulls what Apple has on record for you.

  • I have 1661 songs in laptop iTunes but only 1660 on iPhone after syncing. How can I easily identify the song that did not sync?

Is there an easy way to identify which song did not sync correctly?
I have performed a sync three times and problem remains.
    Thank you.

One thing that comes to mind would be if you have a music video and your iPhone isn't setup to sync videos.
You also may have one streaming item in your library that would not be synced to your iPhone.
You can try making a smart playlist where Media Kind is Music Video, or Kind contains Stream.
There are a few other instances where this might happen, but I would start by looking for these.

  • Help!  itunes will only play one song at a time

My itunes is acting screwy. I open a playlist and play the first song, and itunes only plays that song. it won't keep going forward. it doesn't freeze up; i just have to manually play the next song. this just started yesterday with no adjustments, new downloads...no nothing. does anyone know what is going on? i have already uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, but to no avail. same problem. is this a setting somewhere that i don't know about?
    cat

Are the boxes beside each song checked? iTunes will only play the songs that are checked. To check all the songs press control + click in any box. To check only some songs, you can highlight them and then right click and choose check selection.
