Lov in non-tables-items
I have a problem.
i need a LOV in a non-table-items.
Is this possible in Designer 2.1.1 using Headstart?
Using forms its very simple.
How i do this using Headstart?
Thanks

In a pre-query trigger alter the where clause of the main block to query the main table based on non-database values...
Use the set_block_property procedure and the 'DEFAULT_WHERE' clause or the 'ONETIME_WHERE' property...
example...
set_block_property('MYBLOCK', ONETIME_WHERE,
'where main_table.id in (
select id from my_non_db_block_table where mycol = :my_non_db_field)');
To accept wild cards you will probably have to change the = to a "like" above..
You will have to build your where clause by adding a "and" condition for each non-db field.

How to value non-table items in Forms
Portal 3.0.7.6.2 on NT
I am trying to display non-table items on a Form. I want to do things like: Display the Credit Card Type (non-table item) based on the Credit Card Number (table column). Use a foreigh key (table column) to retrieve related data for display/information only on the Form. The doesn't appear to be p_session variables for these 'added' Form items so I can't use the p_session functions. Any ideas??? I'd prefer a PL/SQL solution.Hi Michael,
As Dmitry said that values for non table form field cannot be displayed completely using pl/sql, u can use some pl/sql and some javascript to achieve this .
Say, take the example of the Emp table where I would like to display the department name for the deptno. Here I'll use pl/sql to retrieve the value of department name using the deptno and use javascript to display the results in the new field added to the form.
Steps :
1> Create a form say, on the emp table
2> In the field formatting section, add a new item of the type text box and add a javascript event onFocus and give the foll javascript function call for the same :-
javascript:getval(this)
3> In the additional pl/sql section, for the "after displaying page ..." part we'll add the following pl/sql code :-
declare
l_dno number(4) default null;
l_desc varchar2(100);
begin
l_dno := p_session.get_value_as_NUMBER
(p_block_name => 'DEFAULT',
p_attribute_name => 'A_DEPTNO',
p_index => 1);
if l_dno is not null then
begin
select dname into l_desc
from scott.dept
where deptno = l_dno;
exception
when others then
null;
end ;
end if;
htp.p('<script>');
htp.p('function getval(ele){'| |chr(10)| |
'ele.value = "'| |nvl(l_desc,' ')| |'";}');
htp.p('</script>');
end;
4> Run the form and perform a query. Place the cursor on the desc field after the page reloads with results. The department name would come up.
Hope this helps. -
Best way to query on a non-table item?
Hi,
I have a form that has customer_name (non-table item) and customer_id (table item). Customer_id is not visible to the user. We need to be able to query on the customer_name. I have tried using the pre-query trigger but I get an error ORA-01422. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am a non-technical person, so the simpler, the better.
Thanks in advance.
TrishHi ,
I know two alternatives:
1) Use the POST-QUERY trigger not the PRE-QUERY... But, you would have the same problem because i think that the customer_id column is not unique. So you should select a combination of columns which guarantee the uniqueness of the selected column...
2)Other design. Read the doc at :
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/pdf/BlockOnAJoin.pdf
Using this way you should not use the trigger POST-QUERY....

How to set_value for non-table items.
I have a form, based on scott.emp, with a button and three fields, empno, ename and xxx. The empno and ename fields are based on the scott.emp table, whereas the xxx field is a non-table based field.
Setting xxx text type to either a text area or text box makes no difference.
The following code in the buttons PL/SQL Button Event Handler, Custom section results in a (WWV-00000) error.
begin
p_session.set_value(
p_block_name => 'DEFAULT',
p_attribute_name => 'A_XXX',
p_value => 'Hello');
end;
However, if I change the p_value to ename, a table based item, the code works as expected.
I ran across a post that had the following link
Re: transactions
Regarding setting values for non-table items. Unfortunately, the post was made prior to the latest discussion forum reorganization, so it's no longer valid.
I would appreciate any help on the problem.
Thanks, LarryHi,
Try using set_value_as_string
begin
p_session.set_value_as_string(
p_block_name => 'DEFAULT',
p_attribute_name => 'A_XXX',
p_value => 'Hello');
end;

ORA-22905: cannot access rows from a non-nested table item in Table func
I am using a table function in Oracle 8.1.7.4.0. I did declare an object type and a collection type like this:
CREATE TYPE t_obj AS OBJECT ...
CREATE TYPE t_tab AS TABLE OF t_obj;
My table function returns t_tab and is called like this:
SELECT ... FROM TABLE (CAST (my_pkg.table_fnc AS t_tab)) ...
This works pretty well as long as I run it in the same schema that owns the function and the 2 types. As soon as I run this query from another schema, I get an ORA-22905: cannot access rows from a non-nested table item error, even though I granted execute on both the types and the function to the other user and I created public synonyms for all 3 objects.
As soon as I specify the schema name of t_tab in the cast, the query runs fine:
SELECT ... FROM TABLE (CAST (my_pkg.table_fnc AS owner.t_tab)) ...
I don't like to have a schema hard coded in a query, therefore I'd like to do this without the schema. Any ideas of how to get around this error?Richard,
your 3 statements are correct. I'll go ahead and log a TAR.
Both DESCs return the same output when run as the other user. And, running the table function directly in SQL*Plus (SELECT my_pkg.table_fnc FROM dual;) also returns a result and no errors. The problem has to be in the CAST function.
Thanks for your help. -
ORA-22905: cannot access rows from a non-nested table item
Hi All,
This is the overview of the query used in the package.
select ename,empno,sal,deptno from
(select deptno from dept) a,
(select ename,empno,sal from emp1) b
where empno in (select * from table (pkg1.fun1('empno')))
and a.deptno=b.deptno
union
select ename,empno,sal,deptno from
(select deptno from dept) c,
(select ename,empno,sal from emp2) d
where empno in (select * from table (pkg1.fun1('empno')))
and c.deptno=d.deptno
Here the pkg1.fun1 will convert the string ('empno') into table form. ('empno') is the input parameter to the package and is a string of emp numbers.
compilation is successful. when this is executed the below error pops up
"ORA-22905: cannot access rows from a non-nested table item"
Is there any problem with the table function which i am using in this query
could anyone guide me to the solution.
Thanks AllI have used
CREATE OR REPLACE
type tab_num as table of number;
select * from table (cast(pkg1.fun1('empno')) as tab_num))
This throws an error during compilation itself
"PL/SQL: ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes:expected number got varchar2 -
Non DB item in a base table block, gives frm-40202 error.
Dear All,
We are using forms6i as a front end. To simulate the error, consider the following example.
1.Create a multirecord emp block.
2.Add a non database item in the base table block.
3.Assign any value to the non database item, in the when new record instance trigger.
4.When i say F7 or F8, my block asking me like, field must be entered. Which means, my record status changed to Insert. But there is no change in base table record, since i modified only in the non base table item.
Please validate, whether i am doing anything wrong in my technique.
Regards,
BalajiIf you have a value to be used as the default value then you can use "Initial Value" property in the item level for the Non Database Item. If you do this it wont give you any problem during the query. If you create a new record then the value which you have put as the default will come automatically.

Populate non database items with lov
Hi,
Let's say that I have one database block with 2 columns ID and NAME.
Only ID it is a not displayed database column, and NAME it is a displayed text item with an lov which retrieve data for both columns.
How can I do, to populate the non database item NAME after querying the block, without using POST-QUERY trigger and select into statement.
Thanks.Hi Gabriel
How can I do, to populate the non database item NAME after querying the block, without using POST-QUERY trigger and select into statement.u can't do that but with using POST-QUERY trigger and select into statement.
This Trigger fires the action of populating the non-db item block Level after executing query...

Want to sort the records based on non-base table item
I have a multi-record block and I am trying to sort the data based on nbt item
I have a table called X which has x_type,x_code fields.
The table on which the block is created is Y. the table Y has x_type and y_desc as its fields
form layout is like below .the x_type is key field on which I have to query the records
and x_code is a non-base item in the form.I want to sort the records by X_code.
x_code y_desc
A xyz
c par
B lmn
my pre-query has this code
select x_type from y
where
x_type := x_type;
post-query has this code
select x_code from x
where x_type = :x_type;
It works fine in Enter-Queryand execute query mode. but when I am sorting the records on
nbt item x_code by SET-BLOCK-PROPERTY it doesn't do any thingHi Tony ,
I have created a function and in Pre-Query & have add this
SET_BLOCK_PROPERTY('b1', ORDER_BY, 'fn_get_code(x_type)');
and the function created is as below
Function fn_get_code (p_x_type in varchar2) return varchar2 is
v_code varchar2(40);
begin
select x_code into v_code
from X, Y
where X.x_type = Y.x_type
and y.x_type = p_x_type
return v_code;
end;
when I run the form and execute query it comes up with the error message
FRM-40505 and when I pressed display error it shows
SQL Statement error:
SELECT ROWID,X_TYPE,X_CODE
FROM Y order by fn_get_code(x_type)
Error:
"ORA-00904: "FN_GET_code": invalid identifier"
Is it that I need to create a function on the database?. As I have created function

Any answers ?
How to pass data in clause in a better wayWhy are you creating a duplicate post? I already asked you to post p_cd_common.get_table_from_string. In particular what is function return type and where it is declared. As I already mentioned, most likely function return type is declared in the package and therefore is PL/SQL type. And TABLE operator can only work with SQL types.

Order by on Non-base table Item
Hi,
I have a base table block on Dept and some of the non-base table items(which are emp table and being populated through post-query).
So, i have some base table items and non-base table items on the same block.
No my problem is, i have to do ORDER BY on one of non-base table items..
How can i do this ?
Thanks in advance.The obvious answer is to create a view upon which to base the block, or alternatively you could use a FROM Clause Query so that you don't have to set the values in your POST-QUERY trigger.

LOV in a Table - "Not a valid Value" - Urgent
Hi All,
I have an LOV inside a Table region. The table has the Add another row button. considering the table has currently 3 rows created and the user enters a dummy value not present in the LOV in the first row and tabs out. The LOV automatically pops up without any values. The issue is when the user closes the pop-up window or clicks on its cancel button. The LOV doesn't validate the data present in the text box. If the Submit button is clicked or the save button is clicked , The framework automatically validates the data present in the text box and throws an error "Not a valid value" .
Now im not sure why but the dummy data entered in the first text box is copied to the second and third text box , and the error is displayed for all the three rows. If there is valid data present in the remaining rows it just over-writes the data with the dummy value.
I have written SOP's in the controller's Process request as well as the process form request but none of them seem to display anything.
So the framework is basically validating this before the controller is called.
Im working on a 11.5.10 instance.
Need help to know if anyone has come across such a situation before.
Thanks ,
DeanDean,
Seems to be a looping issue. Also you need to get the exact error row.
Thanks
