Low speed after 10 day stabilisation period

Hi all,
I had my BB activated on the 1st Nov & was syncing at 17.000kbps, Next day we were only getting 4.543kbps.
Not knowing what was happening i rang BT. The chap on the phone told me about the 10 day stabilisation period, So i thought ok fair doo's and left it at that.
So the 11th of Nov comes and i go to check the router stats...
 ADSL Link                 Downstream          Upstream
Connection Speed      4543 kbps     1211 kbps
Line Attenuation        20.5 db            12.2 db
Noise Margin              30.1 db             6.2 db
These stats have been the same as from the 2nd of November till now the 12th.
Sooooo i rings up BT again and askes if they could manually configure my line as im thinking the 10 day stabilisation period is up and that ip profile must of got stuck or something.
But this chap is telling me he can not manually configure the line i've got to wait another 10 days?
Is this the norm for BT? As before i switched to BT i was with Sky & could not remember 20 days stabilisation period.
Was i just beeing fobbed off or do i really have to wait another 10 days? The chap on the phone was pritty sure he could not do anything till the 20th if my speed had not changed.
Begining to wish i stayed with Sky now

Hi, i've no problems with disconnections but i have manualy power cycled the router a few times and we have a token electric meter which tends to go off every 2-3 days which cant be helped
The electric went today around 8 or 9am this morning, im guessing this is no good for my line all these power cycles

  • Internet still the same speed after 3 days

    Hello
I have read on the forum that it can take upto 10 days for the IP profile to raise in line with the sync speed of my new broadband connection. The documentation that comes with the router though says that after three days i should see an increase. From day 1 the router was connected for 3 days 18 hours but i had to move the router a day ago so not a continuous connection unfortunately! BB has been active since last Tuesday. Here are the router stats.

  • Low Speed after apparent fix

    Hi there,
Recently (The past 5 - 6 weeks) i have been experiencing very low internet connection speeds, im used to 3.30mb down and 0.80mb up and a ping of around 32 to 42.
2 weeks ago a made a call to BT technical support that helped me work out what was going on, i did the usualy line testing, using the tester socket and so on that lead them to send out a engineer who replaced the drop cable to the house as i live on a lane that only has one other house here and the cables are very old an poorly maintained even some of the cables vanish into the trees/branches at some points (Outside of the property boundries ofcourse).
After he left and did his final tests the line was fine again it was up to 4mb down and a good 0.90mbs (wireless test) up as the drop cable was now new so a boost in quality was kinda expected, the weather effected the quality oftern before it was replaced and sometimes when you used the phone in the poor weather you could hear crackles on the line.
I know the line is montored after a repair job like this but i have only ever seen it go down untill i'm back to the speed it was before the drop cabel was replaced.
After doing the line test recommented here i can see the speed is very low, I would'nt even call this broadband at the moment, and the IP profile now only says 1mb Max upload which can't be right as ive been consistantly having an uploading speed of 3 - 4mb for a few years now roughly 5 - 7, so instantly thats a potently error at the exchange.
Here are the results of the BT Test  (Tester Socket Wired)
And here is a noise test taken at the same time.
Hope this information helps, other tests show that speed arraving from the exchange is 1.15
    Thank you

  • Lower speeds after moving BACK to master socket

Around a week ago, I relocated my HH5 and mastersocket back to the entry point into my home (it was using all manner of rubbish extension cabling) and since then my sync speeds have dropped. Before the relocation, I was achieving a sync of > 60Mbps, now it won't exceed 56Mbps. HH5 stats:
The "zero" values on the line and signal attenuation are a little odd. Any ideas at what I should look for?

Are you looking for a missing 4Mbps sync speed?
The speeds don't seem unreasonable for the attenuation and the noise margin is near to 6. If you attracted DLMs attention when you were tidying up the wiring, normal service should be restored in a few days, maybe a couple of weeks.
If sync speed reduces however, you may have a noise problem.

  • Low speed after latest update of Ellipsis Jetpack (MHS700L) software

    Hi,
I did the update to the Ellipsis Jetpack (MHS700L) about a week ago.
Up to that point my "speed" was normally 65mbps..but since the upgdate
to the Jetpack I get no better than 54mbps.
Nothing else has changed..there are still 3 items connected to the Jetpack,
a Laptop, a Printer and a Desktop system. Nothing about those three has
changed. The only change was the software update to the jetpack...
Any ideas as to why the speed has dropped and not returned to 65mbps!!
    thanks

    HI,
I guess I solved my problem...

  • Slow connection during the 10-day stabilisation pe...

    Hi all
My phone line has been noisy and BT has fixed the problem by installing a new line from my property to the road.  This was 4 days ago and the phone is nice and quiet now; broadband, however is on it's knees at no better than 0.46Mbps.  (Three different test sites agree).
I have raised this 3 times with the call centre and on each occasion have been told that this is quite normal during the 10-day stabilisation period.
Why I am on a stabilisation I don't know, but I do remember that when I was first installed on BB, all those years ago, the speed I had at installation was very close to the speed I had after 10 days.  It was definitely not slow for 10 days and then popped up to 7Mbps!
Secondly, when BT Vision was installed, an engineer made some qos adjustments to my profile to ensure that Vision performed well.  Obviously today none of the streamed Vision services work.
I guess these are my questions:
Should I not worry about the woefully slow speed and just wait another 6 days, when all may be well?
Is it likely that I have been connected to new infrastructure that I should be raising a query with someone to do some qos magic re. the Vision service?
I hope someone can put my mind at rest, cos it just doesn’t seem right to me, and if I get to the end of the 10 days only to be told there is a problem (and possibly put on another 10-day stabilisation period), I won’t be best pleased.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

AS work on the line has been involved then yes it will be in a retraining period just a matter of sitting tight and letting the exchange equipment do its work

  • Satellite C850 - Low fan speed after BIOS update

    Hello,
So I have my Satellite C850-PSKCEV bios updated around 6 months ago to version 6.80 (I bought my laptop in 2012), and since then the fan is running at low speeds and will never run full speed as before, and as a consequence the laptop overheats prematurely and very fast, and even when the laptop is not in use but left running it does overheat, also gaming is not even possible as any game that I run (even with the lowest settings) gets a fps drop every 5 seconds and lasts 5-10 seconds which renders even the lightest games unplayable, also I am afraid of the continuous overheat to damage the laptop's internal components.
I did clean the fan and vents from dust and there is not even one particle inside them and yet the fan won't run fast and I can't feel but very slight airflow from the vents as apposed to the strong one before this problem.

  • Stabilisation Period - only running at 288kbps dow...

    Hi all,
Got Broadband option 3 - BT Home Hub 2.0
Pulling my hair out here. Just moved home, and registered the move with BT so I could transfer all my equipment and broadband with ease. The activation date set was the 1st June. To begin with, BT screwed up the new phone line and number (didn't need keep old phone number) by crossing the line with someone else (I was getting their phone number and their calls). They sorted this out the next day with an engineer visit - who wasn't very complimentary of his own company :-) He resolved this on the morning of the 2nd June. Between the 1st and the 3rd June, I had a consistent download speed of 3.5mb.
On the 3rd June, at about 5pm onwards, the line speed suddenly drastically dropped to 288kbps download and 588 upload. I tried several reboots of the router, checking the line etc, to no avail (I work in IT Support so tried all the obvious).
Called BT the next day, to be told its the 'stabilisation period' and it may be this slow for 10 days. I wasn't happy, and after the crossed-line mess up, I was not convinced it wasn't still just a line issue somewhere. I asked them to do some tests, but they flatly refused saying the system didn't allow them for the first 10 days. Anyway - I said if it remains this slow, I want a refund for the 10 days, cos the Broadband is useless as this speed. They also refused, saying it was still working - albeit very slowly. I asked for a call back in 24 hours, in case it was still this speed and they agreed - but NEVER called back.
I then phoned back the day after (Sunday) and was told exactly the same 'script' again, and that there's nothing they can do. I said what if there is a problem with the line, and just because its in the stabilisation period - you're refusing to check it? They couldn't really answer that. I was offered no refund again, and was apologised to and told again to wait 10 days (they then inform me its 10 days from the 3rd June not the 1st, due to THEIR screw up with the lines!).
Anyway - I sent an email to BT on Monday, as the line still showed no increase in speed AT ALL. Someone just phoned me up, and gave me the exact same script again. I admit, I lost my rag this time, told them their service was **bleep** and they kept asking me to call the same number I'd already tried twice!
So - now I'm at my whits end. I've installed countless routers at clients of mine before, and never has the stabilisation period been so slow. The fact it was working for the first 2 days at 3.5mb suggests to me something is wrong somewhere.
Can anyone help me? I use the Broadband for business as well as pleasure, so this is a nightmare when a client needs assistance and I'm working from home.

Hi stuart, please find below as requested. Any way you could help would be a godsend at this moment in time. Please note, I've ran this speed tester daily, and its never once gone above 288kbps. I've restarted the router daily too (about to try again now) and it always hits exactly 288 - as if its capped exactly on that.

  • Low speed

Have very low speed - 0.225 mbs, download. On signing up I was told I will be receiving minimum of 8mbs, average of 15mbs and a maximum of 19mbs. Besides being passed from pillar to post as no-one understands why the broadband is so low I have just been informed that the maximum I can get is now 10mbs - quite a big difference? I have also been told I will be charged to have the phone line looked at even though it was only installed by BT two months previously so I will be paying twice. Is this right? I have been lied to, called a liar, transferred to every department within BT. Each member of staff has told me they can't help that I need to be transferred to a different department so after five hours on the phone I am still at square one! This has been going on for two months. Oh I was also told I would receive compensation for not receiving a service but apparently I'm suddenly not eligible for this. I can get faster broadband (more than 10mbs) for cheaper elsewhere. BT have broken the contract by not supplying me with the service that they promised. BT staff don't seem to know much as they can't even agree on the rate of broadband I should be receiving. This is not to mention how rude they have all been towards me. I am thankful that everything is recorded as this proves that I am not at fault and there are obviously training issues that need to be addressed within all departments in the company. Has anyone else had the same experience? Can any moderators respond?

    Hello, thanks for your response.
I can assure you that i have tried absolutely everything including replacement router, filters etc.
The line was only installed on the 14th April, and BT only guarantee their work for a month! I paid £130 to have a line installed...
They have admitted there is a fault in the line, but even after 6 hours of diagnostic tests still cant find the problem. These tests werent all carried out today but over the past 2 months yet they still didn't send another engineer round to check the line had been installed correctly. I was only offered this option once the "28 day" warranty on the line had expired hence I was expected to pay for it. If this information is incorrect, i have been lied to by the Technical team at BT once again.
The end result after approx 6 hours on the phone today was that i demanded a full refund for the past 2 months of broadband that i was paying for but not receiving, which was granted after a struggle, and a cancellation of the contract due to BT breaching the contract on at least 2 counts. The first being that i was lied to by the initial sales advisor about the speed of the internet connection i was to expect and BT could not honour this and the second due to paying for a service that i was not receiving. I still have not resolved the problem with the line itself which needs to be looked at by BT regardless of which isp i decide to go with now.
I think BT really need to look into the staff they have on the end of the phone as they have been nothing but helpless and i can imagine that they have lost BT 1000's of customers due to their lack of knowledge or training.

  • Receiving 'low speed usb 1.1' error when syncing

I updated itunes to 10.0.1 a day after it was released and have synced my ipod a few times without any problems. A few days ago, an error message popped up when I connected my ipod saying that my ipod was connected to a "low-speed usb 1.1 port" and says I should "connect to a high-speed usb 2.0 port if one is available on my computer". The sync seemed to be slower than usual. My mac mini only has usb 2.0 ports and was connected directly into the computer and not to a usb hub.
I have reset my ipod, restored it, and restarted my computer and still receive the same error message.
Has anyone received a similar message and have any suggestions on what I can try next? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • WAP321 - Disconnects / Not connecting / low speed

I haver purchased 3 WAP321 for my new home two weeks ago.
So far, I'm very unhappy with this product because of the following problems that randomly occur:
1.) Wireless devices do not connect
Often a connection to the setup SSID is not possible at all. I have 4 wireless devices and it happens on all of those devices (HTC One M8, Iphone4, Ipad, Dell XPS Notebook). The SSID is always shown on all devices, the signal strength is indicated as full strength as well. Connection is anyway often not possible. My HTC M8 showed several error message such as: Deactivated, Authorization problem, connection not possible
    2.) Connection gets lost randomly
The wifi connection is randomly interrupted. This brings me back to problem Nr. 1 listed above. I strongly think that the connection lost problem is related to problem Nr. 1
3.) Connection speed is randomly extremely slow (0.1mbit/sec.) even though the signal strength indicator is at full. This also only happens randomly and usually I have 25mbit/sec. which is currently my paid internet speed.
    My setup:
The 3 AP's are located on 3 floors in my house.
All 3 AP's are connected through a Netgear ProSafe GS728TP Gigabit Smart Switch
My wired internet connection is stable
Things I tried so far - without success
    - I used the wizard to setup the AP's using Single Point setup
    - I have tried to use only one AP instead of 3
    - I have tried DHCP on the AP's
    - I have tried fixes IP's on all AP's
    - I have tried to change the security settings and even deactivated security
    - I have tried all different wireless modes, 802.11 b/g/n, 2.4GHz, 5GHz
    - I have tried to set Channel from Auto to a various channel
    Facts:
    - All AP's have their IP correctly
    - Single Point Setup correctly shows a cluster of 3 APs
    Thoughts:
I have no idea what could cause this problem. Between the disconnects there are often several hours. Once a disconnect happens, it is not possible to reconnect with all 4 wireless devices. Only after waiting a undefined period of time, sometimes hours, sometimes a day, it will strangely just work how it is supposed to. The longest time it worked was 1.5days.
Since this problem is not just (it works or it doesn't), I find it hard to figure out a solution for this problem. I can only change a value, than it seems to work and a couple of hours later it will not work anymore.
The support forum is my last chance, otherwise I have to return the product :(
    Questions:
    - How can I fix this issue, any ideas?
    - Could an option in the switch or router cause these problems?
    - Please let me know if I can provide anything more to resolve this issue
    Thanks in advance,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
How are plugged your APs ? PoE ? And are your ports (on the netgear) configured with auto-negotiation ? Because sometimes, you've to force port's mode. Try it and let me know if it can solved some of your issues.

    Kevin

  • Slow speed after new dropline fitted.......Possibl...

    Hello all,
I have had a new dropline fitted to cure a worsening crackle on my line (particularly when it was raining), however my broadband speed has now dropped to 2mb/s whereas prior to this fault it was running at approx 14mb/s.
    I realise there is a training period, and sure enough my hub rebooted after 4 days and increased my upload speed ip from 400kb/s to 888kb/s, but the download ip stayed at 2mb/s. After a day it rebooted again at about 5 in the morning but with no improvement in my ip's. My current hub status is;
