M2ts and VLC

Hi there,
I would like to use one of my m2ts files for editing in FCP.
For an unknown reason, I did something wrong when I saved these files from the SD card and I can no longer use the log and transfert in FCP.
However, I found out that I can read the files with VLC.
Could someone tell me if there is anyway to recover the mts in a FCP-usable format from VLC ?
Thanks a lot in advance
Ivan

No. VLC is a wonderful player - it will handle just about anything you throw at it.
As a converter, it stinks.
You need ClipWrap II to convert the files.

  • Perian and VLC still can't play .avi

I searched the board and a couple of threads recommended using Perian and VLC to play an .avi file. I've downloaded both and the file still does not play. These look to solve the problems encountered by other posters but I'm feeling pretty lame right now since it's not working for me. I'm being pretty good about opening the file the right way (it's not that hard) but I still get audio and a black screen with Quicktime and just the controller with audio, no video using VLC. Any suggestions?

I'm a point and click download guy and that site looked like I needed a little more tech skill than I have to make work. I have an HP laptop via my job so we can view the file that way when I bring it home. My son made his own Lego Movie with the Park District and he was crushed we couldn't play it. I guess the Park Dist is using some pretty old PC's.
    Thank for your help,

  • Firestore FSC problems with m2t and .mov files

I am having a problem opening files from Firestore FSC. Both m2t and Qt .mov
files will not open for me in FCE,iMovie or Qt with Quicktime MPEG2 reader
installed. Anyone having this problem and is there a solution other than
    buying Final Cut Pro?
    Charles Dodd

I am able to capture m2t and Quicktime.mov files from my FSC to FCE, but in
real time which defeats one of the reasons I purchased my FSC. Also
StreamClip will open the the m2t files, but not .mov files. I can't open the
the m2t/.mov files in FCE from my desktop or from a folder. Sony Vegas Pro
will open m2t files from a folder or desktop etc. I am very new at this, but
this if what I have accomplished so far. Thanks

Don't worry, there is nothing wrong with your computer. I have the same issue, and it is a bug. Sometimes a restart solves it. Sometimes and if you use subtitles, you will see the first line being displayed but the second one not, etc.
I have reported that to Apple and there is hope for a fix.

no you should transcode those files into an format that os suitable for editing. Like proRez. Although you might need some Flip4Mac or perian or something to do the conversion.

  • Workflow for editing HD PAL .m2ts and .mpeg4 on Final Cut

I have PAL HD files in two formats (.m2ts and .mpeg4) from 2 cameras of the same event. These files need to be converted to a mutually compatible format to edit in Final Cut (Studio 2). I would appreciate knowledgeable recommendations on a work flow, including the best converter(s) to use.

I could not load either file format into MPEG-Streamclip. Do you think there is any better media converter than the VoltaicHD? I am trying it out and it is the best I have seen. Clean and the controls for the Quicktime .mov file out. Although, when I play output clips set to digitize at 25 frames, they are all reported as 29.97 -- is this a bug?

  • CinexPlayer and VLC deleting movies from Ipad

I installed CinexPlayer and VLC, I was able to use itunes to move the movies into the ipad, however I have not been able to figure out how to delete them after I am done.
Itunes only gives you the options to add and upload. not delete from device. I also tried to delete them the same way you delete them from "VIDEOS" and that did not work..!
Does anyone have an idea how to do this...?

Select the video you want to remove in the File Sharing section of the Apps tab in iTunes (the same one where you select the video to add), press the Delete key and OK the dialog box, then sync your iPad. That will remove the videos from the iPad.
    Regards.

  • MPV and VLC segfault (glibc problem?)

    Hello,
When playing any videos, both mpv and vlc segfault. I've updated quite a lot of packages at once, so I'm not sure what could cause this. I've updated mesa, mpv, x264, nvidia (moved to nvidia-340xx) and glibc.
    Actual error is the same:
    Segmentation fault (core dumped)
    Log output:
    [32216.091021] mpv[1348]: segfault at 8 ip 00007fb53cede5b7 sp 00007fff4054ac40 error 4 in ld-2.20.so[7fb53ced3000+22000]

Dunno about your issue, but as a related item, use reflector to select a current mirror to avoid out-of-sync problems.
    % which upp
    upp: aliased to reflector -c "United States" -a 1 -f 3 --sort rate --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist && cat /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist && sudo pacman -Syyu

  • KODI and VLC won't run and keeps Segfaulting

    Hi,
I'm not sure if this belongs here but as it's to do with multimedia hopefully it does :-)
My issue is that I am unable to run both Kodi and VLC?? They worked fine before - a few months back, but now after a few updates they don't run any more??
Running Kodi directly from terminal on XFCE4 I get this:
    $ kodi
    /usr/bin/kodi: line 141: 7267 Segmentation fault (core dumped) python2 ${datarootdir}/${bin_name}/FEH.py $SAVED_ARGS
    while VLC gives me this:
    $ vlc
VLC media player 2.2.1 Terry Pratchett (Weatherwax) (revision 2.2.1-0-ga425c42)
    Segmentation fault (core dumped)
My system is totally up to date as of today: 4.0.4-2-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri May 22 03:05:23 UTC 2015 x86_64 GNU/Linux
The H/W specs are 8GB RAM, Core i5 cpu and Nvidia graphics.
I attempted to use GDB to run Kodi but it just gives me this:
"/usr/bin/kodi": not in executable format: File format not recognized
    (gdb) run
    Starting program:
    No executable file specified.
Use the "file" or "exec-file" command.
VLC seems to give a bit more information:
Reading symbols from vlc...(no debugging symbols found)...done.
    (gdb) run
    Starting program: /usr/bin/vlc
    [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled]
    Using host libthread_db library "/usr/lib/libthread_db.so.1".
VLC media player 2.2.1 Terry Pratchett (Weatherwax) (revision 2.2.1-0-ga425c42)
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
    0x00007ffff79af080 in __lll_unlock_elision () from /usr/lib/libpthread.so.0
I am wondering if anyone can help me, or should I be filing a bug report?
    Thanks.

    Ok many thanks done;

Update is complete and now KODI managed to run but still segfaulted??

  • Skype and VLC cannot start, they keep bouncing on the dock

Skype and VLC cannot start in Mountain Lion. They just keep bouncing, they eventually stop bouncing but nothing shows up on the screen.
The CPU utilization goes to 100% and the computer starts overheating.
I found a way to start Skype and VLC from the command line:
    /Applications/Skype.app/Contents/MacOS/Skype
    /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC
The applications start successfully when the commands above are executed in the terminal.
Is there a reason why the applications do not work when started from the GUI? How can this be fixed?
    Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered. You can do that by copying and pasting as well. Omit the final line ending in “$”. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. It won't be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Few questions about alsa and vlc

how to set sound via spdif in vlc ?
how to set default sound output as spdif ? (ESI Juli@)
how to disable dmix and set sampling to 192khz ?

Don't know too much, but S/PDIF would be handled by ALSA not VLC...
Check out asound.conf for default output...
    Check autostart for DE/WM...
Might look into using JACK instead of ALSA...

  • I can't play a bought video in iTunes, and VLC only plays it but no screen. And I have to athourize all the time but it does not help. What's wrong?

    Hi all.
Just bought my first video from iTunes Store and should watch it with my son. I had to authorize, this and that for some time, but finally I got the video in my iTunes, but it was just a black screen. Nothing playing and no sound (of course). So I tried VLC and it was at least runing there, but no screen and no sound. Quick time said I had to authorize my iTunes acount first (which I had done several times before) and did it again with just the same result, nothing happening. What's wrong? I'm no geek so please help me out with this, I thought it should be easy piecy with a iMac and iTunes, well, hope it was a one in a million problem.
    Thanks

  • Safari and VLC -- how do I make them work together?

I installed VLC on my Mac Pro and I want to use VLC to play streaming content. I think the link I'm clicking on is Adobe Flash content that then opens another program to play the MMS stream.
Quicktime Player can't handle the stream and when I click on the link now the computer starts Parallels and tries to launch Windows Media Player from a virtual machine, which also can't handle the stream. I know that the VLC client can handle the stream because it works great on my Macbook Pro.
I don't know how to change the necessary file/stream associations so that Safari/Adobe launch VLC to play the stream instead of either Quicktime or Windows Media Player. Also, because it is a stream launched from flash content I can't just open it in the Finder and change the application association.
I found a workaround by creating a new .ASF file and then opening that with Finder to "change all" and associate ASF with the VLC client, but there must be an easier way.
What is the easiest way to do this?

    HI,
Might be a bug related to this..

  • I need a definitive answer for using Premiere Pro CS4 to work with .m2ts and .mts files

I have a Canon Vixia HF20 and a Sony HDR-XR350V.  The Canon gives me .MTS files and the Sony produces .M2TS files.  What do I need to do to be able to work with these files in Premiere Pro?  I've searched and gotten that I'll need to purchase a codec.  But are both file types going to be good with one codec?
Also, what are the steps to getting started?  Purchase the codec, load the codec...Will there be any other steps to working with the files in Premiere?
I'm sorry for the basic questions, I'm a photographer!  I've never worked with video before, and this is HARD!
    Thank you for your help,
    Michelle

    Hi, Michelle.
I'm nowhere near the authority on this stuff that many of the others are here, but I have Premiere Pro CS4 and I work directly with AVCHD .mts files from my Panasonic camera. I simply browse to the directory where the .mts files are located and drag them into the project. I didn't need to purchase any additional codec, this is natively supported in Premiere CS4.
I can't speak to m2ts files as I don't have any gear that generates them.
One thing you do need to know, however, and this is important. Whether you're running a Mac or a PC, if you're going to work with high def footage such as AVCHD, you're going to need a fairly high performance computer with sufficient RAM, good performing hard drives and a fast CPU.
I tried this on a PC that was fine for my recording studio (audio), fine for professional software development, but choked and stuttered working with HD material. That's not a problem with the Adobe software, it's just the nature of the beast. HD is extremely demanding stuff, so you need top flight gear to work with it. I bought a higher performance PC and now it runs just fine.
    Hope this helps,
    Chris
