  • I have iPhone 4 with newest update and Mac laptop with Snow Leopard and current version of iTunes. When I hook the phone up via USB, iPhoto pops open and reads the pictures for import, but iTunes doesn't do anything. Not seeing the device as a USB, either

Sorry, thought that was the body of the question, so the title is long. When I plug in my iPhone 4 (newest update) into my Mac laptop (current version of iTunes, Snow Leopard), it does not read the music, apps, etc., or open iTunes at all. It syncs the pictures, but it doesn't not show as a USB device, either. I have gone through the Troubleshooting assistant, restarting both comp and laptop, using different USB ports, etc. If it is of note, when I look at the option to Sync through Wifi on the phone, it says that sync will happen when my computer (by name) is "available." Not sure if this is a phone issue or laptop, leaning towards laptop, since iPhoto syncs. Willing to buy Lion if that will fix the problem! I would appreciate any help that is given.

You have written a very long story, and I admit I have skipped most of it.  But I think the question is you are on iOS 7, and cannot get the latest version of iTunes (11.1.5) on your computer because your OS X is too old.
The fact that you chose not to update your hardware does not mean you could not update your software!
OS X 10.5 is very old (about four years).  iTunes 11.1.5 (current version) requires at least OS X  10.6.8 to run.  Very likely, you could upgrade your computer's software to at least OS X 10.6.8 and then download the current iTunes on it.
    You would start here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Then you would update the OS X 10.6 to OS X 10.6.8 over the air, then download iTunes (or update to a later OS X, as the current version is 10.9.2).

Reinstall MacFuse with the one from http://www.tuxera.com/mac/macfuse-core-10.5-2.1.9.dmg. If that doesn't work, you can use Paragon NTFS for Mac 9.0 which has been designed to work with Lion.

  • My Mac OS X can not read PDF stored in USB which scan in 7-11 IBON

I have 7-11 IBON scan a document and put into my USB as PDF.  I can not read the PDF by my MAC so I went to a Internet cafe and used their computer to read my document in USB, I have no problem read my document in Internet Cafe at all. What should I do to make my Mac can read the document in USB?

Hello, not your fault, but when you use Paste instead of Paste & Match style, this forum makes it really hard to read the log.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • My Mac Mini will charge - but not sync with - USB-connected devices (ipod, camera, memory card reader). How do I fix it?

My Mac Mini will charge - but not sync with - USB-connected devices (ipod, camera, memory card reader). I have tried unplugging the devices, restarting the computer, selectively unplugging and plugging in the devices, closing and opening the relevant applications (iTunes, iPhoto, etc). I have tried using different USB cables.
It's like all of a sudden the synching service stopped functioning or recognizing these devices for some reason. The other ports work just fine (monitor).
The only USB-connected external device that appears to be unaffected is the USB SuperDrive and it works on all the USB ports into which I plug it.
    How do I fix this?

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens or doesn't happen.

  • USB Card reader works on MacBook Pro but not Mac Pro

I have a random "All-in-1" card reader from Quantaray. I'm trying to mount my CF card because it takes forever and a day to import HD video directly from my Canon 5D Mk II.
It works on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2010). Both computers are running 10.6.8. All I have to do is plug it in and it appears on the desktop on my Macbook. But not on my Mac Pro.
I've already tried resetting the PRAM and SMC. No dice
It shows up in the System Profiler under the USB High Speed port as a usb card reader but I can't find it anywhere; not even in Disk Utility.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    jaypie77,
First, you must identify the application that created the file. If it truly was Macromedia Flash, fine. Once you know which app created the file, make certain that the same application exists on the Mac Pro. If it does, set the file to open in that application: Open a Getinfo window for the file, then use the "Open With..." dialogue to choose Macromedia Flash (or the correct application) to open the file.

  • USB Barcode Scanner (Adesso) not reading on Mac Mini

My friend bought an inexpensive USB bar-code scanner (Adesso Nuscan 1000U), which they said should work fine in OSX, to use on his Intel Mac Mini, running Leopard 10.5.4.
    Model Name: Mac mini
    Model Identifier: Macmini2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MM21.009A.B00
    SMC Version: 1.19f0
    Serial Number: YM7309F0YL2
After plugging the scanner directly into his computer, it was acknowledged to be an "non-standard" keyboard...
    - the "Keyboard Setup Assistant" window popped up, and he hit continue (instead of closing the window)
    - "Identifying Your Keyboard" came up, and he had hit "z" on his main keyboard (a mistake, he knows now)
    - said scanner will not "print scanned data to screen" as it ought to
    - scanner "goes to sleep" after it scans it's first barcode - does not 'wake' until unplugged and re-plugged into Mini. Never does this on other machines.
    - scanner works perfectly on three other Macs running Leopard (same version on all four machines), both Intel and G4 based
    - I have repeatedly trashed the "com.apple.keyboardtype.plist" file in hopes of re-setting his computer to read this device properly, with no luck - but each time it's trashed and we plug in the scanner it pops up the "Keyboard Setup Assistant" window, which we simply close... like on the other test machines.
I know it's not the scanner itself, as it works fine on all other systems with the same OS. We had simply skipped the "Identifying Your Keyboard" prompts and closed those windows and the device merrily scans barcodes and prints them to any text window - as it should.
Is there a chance that some difference in the Mini hardware would somehow not allow this device to work properly with it? I'm completely stumped. Thanks for any assistance!!
    -ant.

Not to be rude or contrary, but if you read my entire posting, the same unit (usb scanner) works successfully on at least three other machines with different processors running Leopard.
    To further elaborate:
    • manufacturer has been contacted and in touch - they have no idea why it doesn't work on mini
    • no software or drivers - none needed for all the other machines
    • my workaround (deleting .plist file) did nothing except prompt
the computer to ask me what kind of keyboard device it was (none)
Thanks for the effort... and the welcome.

  • Mac Pro Not Reading Toshiba External HDD

I have a *Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive (200 GB)*, and I've been using it just fine on my PC with Windows XP for months now.
I tried plugging it in today into my newly purchased Mac Pro, and it appeared just fine on my desktop, but when I double-clicked it to view the contents, my data and such was all there, but I couldn't access anything. If I opened up a folder to see it's contents, all I got was a blank folder with a spinning "Busy" graphic at the bottom right hand of the corner. No individual files would appear at all ever.
I would try disconnecting, re-plugging it in, and then at sometimes it wouldn't even register on the desktop. I had to try various USB ports on the Mac Pro to hope and try to get it to re-appear again.
One time I was actually able to view all the contents on my harddrive. I tried to access an MP3 on there, it loaded up iTunes, but iTunes locked up on me, and I couldn't close out of it nor eject my hard drive.
When I "Get Info" on my external hard drive icon on the desktop, the format is MS-DOS(FAT32).
I am running Mac OS X version 10.5.2.
Any ideas of what the problem is? I am absolutely stumped and upset.

I am having the same problem with my macbookpro. However, I am not even getting a desktop icon--i.e. its not even mounting. It doesnt show on the disk utilities, nothing. I have power, according to the led on the drive. The usb portworks on my iphone, and with myprinter. What gives?
    Andrej, any thoughts?
To the originator of this thread, have you gone to your disk utilities and formatted it?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
That alert codes does suggest there is a USB related issue. If you haven’t already, try the troubleshooting suggestions in the article linked below.

  • How come a USB will work with both Mac and Windows (as in that there are already files from Windows and Mac can still read and write onto it) but a external Hard Drive won't (as in there are files from Windows on there but Mac can read but not write)?

I have a Seagate Drive that I'm hoping to copy some movies from my Mac onto (because it only has a 512 SSD and I'd rather keep that empty and handy for more readily needed files) but it won't work. It shows up as a drive when connected (with the orange USB drive icon popping up) and is appropirately labeled "FreeAgent Drive", but when I try to copy files onto it it won't work. There are already windows files on there, such as some windows backups and lot's and lot's of pictures and videos. However, I have several USBs which already have windows files on them (namely movies, music, and other stuff) and copying and stuff works fine. Why won't it work with this hard drive and would work with USBs? Please help me out here guys, I am not experienced with Hard disks and formatting and stuff like that. 10 points for whoever helps me out the most. Thanks.

We will need to reformat your EXT, but it will then work on both Mac and Win
Connect the drive to your Mac, open disk utility
Go to the partiton tab and select '1' ... format should be ExFAT ... in options select MBR
    Format the drive
It should now work on both OSs; report back

  • Camera / USB card reader not connection to macs anymore - fine with PCs

    Hi there,
I have a Canon EOS 50 which has a CF card - I normally connect this to our macbook pros with a crd reader via usb. Alternatively, I connect the camera directly.
Yesterday, something started to go wrong.
I was connecting the card to download photos - at first it recognised the card as an external drive, but was taking ages to read the photos. Then it flashed an error message up that it couldn't read the format of the disk (it had previously for about a year!).
Now when I connect the card via either reader or by connection to the camera, it doesn't recognise the card at all.
I tried this on both my mac book pros we own. Same issues.
Canon HD camcorder connects absolutely fine via usb, as does Ipod - so it isn't the usb port.
I think the cards are ok- (same issue with two different CF cards)
The camera connected no problem to my brother-in-law's vista machine, and downloaded the image files.
I tried connection with two different usb cables as well.
Any ideas as to what has happened?
    Thanks,
    ThreeIsles

Last year I purchased a USB card reader to have available with my laptop when I travel. It experienced the same problems you are having. It also wouldn't work with my G4.
I looked on the manufacturer's web site and sent their Customer Support an email explaining the problem. They sent me a new reader at no cost. It works. Suggest you do the same.

  • USB Card Reader not recognized on new Mac Pro (late 2013)

My Sony USB multi-card reader (model: MRW62E), which I use for SD cards mostly, works on my MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), my new iMac, and my old Mac Pro (2009), via the USB ports, but is unrecognized entirely on my new Mac Pro (late 2013). All machines are running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2. Neither the card reader, nor the cards appear at all in FCP, image capture, apple system profiler, the desktop, or disk utility. I cannot find any drivers online addressing the issue, including Sony's website.
Perhaps an additional update for increased compatibility vis-a-vis the new Mac Pro would do the trick...

Does the reader show up under USB in System Report?
If the reader is working properly both the reader and an inserted card will show up.

  • USB card reader not recognized on Intel Mac! Suggestions?

I'm a very experienced user and own several Macs. I just replaced my PowerBook G4 with a new MacBook Pro (MBP). I used Migration Assistant to copy all files and settings and was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked.
But the MBP doesn't recognize my USB compact flash card reader when inserted. The driver is definitely in place -- but for good measure, I downloaded and installed a fresh copy from the manufacturer. But still, no go. The LED lights up, but the drive never mounts. Yet, when I plug it into an older PowerBook (also running Tiger), iPhoto opens immediatelly.
Is this possibly an Intel-compatibility issue? I know that applications had to be updated, but I hadn't heard that drivers like this were affected. The manufacturer (Delkin) hasn't updated the driver since 2002, but there are various ways to interpret that (could be the driver doesn't need updating, or could be negligence).
    All suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Syncopator:
Check the Image Capture preferences to make sure iPhoto is selected as the application to open when a camera/card reader is connected. It may have been missed in the migration.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar
