Mac OS X Leopard CD/DVD for other machine

I'm wondering if it's ok if I use my new Mac OS X Leopard CD/DVD that comes with newer Macbook for my other iMac that I bought a year ago to upgrade it that still have tiger on it? Thanks.

There are quite a few folks on the discussions that really get down on someone breaking the rules as outlined by Apple's end user license agreement.
It says that you can only use one copy of the software on one machine at one time.
That said, an intel os will only work on a intel based machine.
Might work, might not work..

  • Cannot upgrade from Mac OS X (10.4.11) with  Mac OS X leopard upgrade DVD

I tried to install the Leopard today and I was unsuccessful. I was kept from proceeding to the initial install with a box that said Mac OS X cannot be upgraded to V 10.5 on your computer- Mac OS X v 10.4 or later cannot be found on your computer. At this point I can proceed and I had to quit. I brought my Macbook Pro last October just as the Leopard was being released. I purchased for a very small sum the Mac OS X Leopard Upgrade DVD but i used it today and no success. If anyone can assist me in this matter I would appreciate it. I am up to date with firmware and all other soft ware updates etc. I have also have v 10.5.1,2,3 in a folder ready to be added once I can install the my Leopard DVD

I posted a few weeks ago stating that I was unable to upgrade.
I ran Utilities and tried again to no avail.
I called Apple and they told me to backup everything and do a fresh install. Before doing that, I decided to see if the Leopard Upgrade DVD could see my backup because I created it so that it would be a bootable hard disk.
It did recognize my external disk, so I clicked on the Utilities application to see if it could see my hard disk and it couldn't. When I got back to the window that allowed me to select a hard disk, suddenly my internal hard disk appeared.
It worked, and now I'm using Leopard. I don't know if it's a workaround, but it was a lot better than deleting everything off of my computer, installing the new system, and copying it all back onto my internal hard disk.
I hope someone else will find out that this works for them...

  • Using Mac mini as External Hard Drive for time machine

I know this can be done but I am not sure how. How can I set up a mac mini as an external hard drive. Can this be used as a drive for time machine?? Any help is appreciated, Thank you.

Personal file sharing (which may require Leopard on the Mini) or by connecting the Mini to your other Mac via Target Disk Mode. I wouldn't recommend that latter, though; too much chance of inadvertently erasing files critical to the operation of the Mini.

  • Can't connect to wireless network that works fine for other machines

I received my MacBook Pro last week (2.16 GHz) and I've been very happy with it so far. However, when I brought it home, I've had nothing but issues trying to connect to my wireless network. It's a Netgear, and you can read more about it at the following link:
    http://www.netgear.com/products/details/WGT624.php
It works great with my Windows XP Desktop (HP Pavilion 1250n) and PowerBook G4. It works with no password, 40-bit WEP and 128-bit WEP. But not with the MacBook Pro. However, my MacBook Pro has worked at my office and StarBucks, so it works sometimes. Is there something special I have to set on my router for it to work with the MacBook Pro?

I also had problems with wireless connectivity while trying to access a netgear WGR614 albeit a v2 base station.
The problem was that I could not see the network from my MBP. It just didn't appear. The network was open with zero security. However my dell laptop was able to connect fine.
I noticed in the MBP config that the wireless locale was set to USA. I however live in Ireland. I then changed the locale inside the netgear 'wireless settings -> region' to United States. Now everything works fine. My dell didn't seem to care either way. It just picked up the new 'USA - region' based wireless network.
The problem now is that I travel quite a lot and usually I won't have the luxury of being able to change the routers configuration.
Is this just a MBP and Netgear WGR614 issue?
If this happens in the future is there a way for me to change the AirPort wireless card locale?

  • Mac Pro drive configuration/expansion advice for Time Machine

    I have the following:
Mac Pro 1Tb internal drive (2 x 500Gb in software RAID, so 2 drive bays used, 2 free)
    500Gb external drive (Formac XTR platinum - 2 x 250Gb in RAID)
I use SuperDuper to backup the internal to the external - I'm using about 440Gb on the internal and this fits on the external with about 10-20Gb spare. However, my usage of the internal drive is growing, and as Time Machine backups grow in size, my 500Gb external will very quickly lose the ability to go back in time and shortly afterwards run out of space for even a simple backup.
    My options are:
    1. Buy 2 500Gb IDE drives and upgrade the external to 1Tb - Cost about £140. If I put the redundant 250Gb drives in enclosures and sell them, net cost would come down to about £100
    2. Buy single 750Gb SATA drive and install internally for TM backups - cost £110. Sell external drive and cost comes down to about £40
    3. Buy 2 500Gb SATA drives and install inside Mac Pro for Time Machine - Cost about £130. Sell external and cost about £60
    4. Buy single 1Tb SATA drive and install internally for TM backups - cost £200. Sell external and cost about £130
    Pros & Cons
Option 1 - Con: Left with untidy external enclosure. Pro - 2 internal bays free for expansion.
Option 2 - Con: Less internal expansion, Pro: No untidy external box, can add another 750Gb drive when required
Option 3 - Con: No internal expansion. Pro: Ermmm, not sure.
Option 3 - Con: Most expensive. Pro: Longer time required before need to add another drive.
I know external drives are useful for off-site backups but I do have a 160Gb and a 320Gb external drives for that purpose (and for TM'ing my MacBook).
I think I've answered my own question - get a 750Gb SATA drive and stick it inside.
    Regards,
    Steve

I am in a similar situation. I have a 160gb for my boot/system drive and two 500gb for data, backed up to two other 500gb drives. Both 500gb drives are about 80% full and I bring in 50 or gig a week, paring it down quite a bit, then importing new photos and culling them out again. I may replace my 160 backup drive for my boot partition with a 750gig, but I don't see Time Machine being capable of backing up a 500 or 750gig drive that had several hundred gigs of current data and moves gig after gig onto and then out of the hard drive. I think Time Machine will be really great for many many people, and if it allows me to "roll back" my system to an earlier known-good point in time even better than my current method of using superduper when I feel my system is stable, then Time Machine will be great for me too, but I don't see how it's going to be usable for data backup for heavy professional photographic work or for video backup where large amounts of data are entered, deleted, entered again, deleted, etc etc. There isn't enough anectodal information on Time Machine to know what size is going to be really required, but I think most folks will be surprised at how much room is going to be needed - especially those that use their machines heavily. Mom and Dad who do nothing but a few emails and surfing the web will have no problem, Mac Pro users involved with grahics and video...not so easy I'm afraid. Time will tell.

  • Saving Apple Updates on CD for other machines?

    Hi,
I just recently set up an iMac G3 and installed my retail version of os 10.4.6. Then I updated it to 10.4.11.  I found a stand alone installer on Apple's website so that I can do that again without contacting the Apple server.  Then I ran software update and got some more updates.  It's those updates that I'd like to archive so that I can do this on several other machines that I'm setting up.  Also, I like old stuff and I'm not sure when Apple will stop providing these updates so I'd like a copy I can put on a CD.
    Thanks,
    John

I tend to think dashboard is neat, but not neccesary for my everyday workflow.
it is possible to enable and disable it as needed,
by entering the following commands into the terminal:
    -- To turn Dashboard off:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES
    -- To turn Dashboard on:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean NO
-- You have to restart the Dock after making either change for it to take effect:

To get the CD to eject, hold down the mouse, or if you use it, trackpad, button while you reboot ... keep holding the button down until it ejects. If that doesn't work, this Apple note has some other steps.
See this Apple note on steps to take to deal with the grey screen.
Your iMac needs to be mid-2007 or newer with 2GB minimum memory (4GB+ is recommended) and 8GB or more of available disk space. You also should be at OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to access the App store and install OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

  • I want to set up my mac book as a wireless router for other computers to connect on

I already used my macbook as a wireless router but these days when i try to set it up through the internet sharing column in system preferences the up arrow signal shows for a second does not show anymore making my wireless invisible to other pcs and the green icon to show internet sharing is up stays on . How do i go about this and sort this problem . My Mac OS X is 10.9.3 . Thanks

Hello Francinette Pestana. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Have you already checked with your Virgin ADSL ISP on, whether or not, they can provide you with an Ethernet modem or combination modem/router? This would be the most straightforward path to a solution.

  • Mac OS combo update - any probs for other macbk air users??

Hi, the recent update doesnt enable diskdrive sharing?
Is it an upgrade from mac os x 10.5.2, OR?
I'm a new macbk user, just barely 3 days old. One of the first things I got prompted was a software update for Mac OS combo and I did. Thot this would replace having to install using the cd-roms. Now when I want to install windows vista via bootcamp, I cant - cos I realise that I dont have the function to share disj, and I dont own one external diskdrive yet - thot I could do without...
    help...?
    tx for reading this
    cheers

a clean install and rebuild. is an exercise in futility. Apparently, you mucked things up. Boot with the disc that came with the MBA, follow the steps in your Everything Mac booklet to restore to factory condition, and on first boot use the Setup Assistant to migrate from the other MBA. Then, run Software Update.

  • Is it possible to use an iMac as a display for other machine?

A  friend does complex photo retouch and had downloaded an image containing a worm that trashed files. He runs a PC. A tech friend of his suggested transferring his files from his PC to someone with a Mac since we are blessed with alomost no issues with most worms. They told him to copy them back to a disk and then upload to his machine and that should restore his files. Does that make any sense. I am highly  skeptical and as much as I would like to help, I am not savy enough to have confidence in moving forward with this...

  • SCSM 2012 R2 -Portal Opens with Full Content on Portal Server but not for other Machines

    Setup:
SharePoint 2010Sp2 installed onto a Server, it uses a Remote SQL DB for SharePoint. Both WebContent Server and SharePoint Webparts are installed onto one computer. Both websites are using the exact same certificate that is registered as computer.domain.com
    Scenario
When I open up the Https://computer.domain.com:444/SMPortal from the actual Portal server logged on as myself, the Prortal Completely shows everything, and does not ask me to logon, and correctly has
the certificate. I can also access the Settings.xml and see it in IE.
The issue is that when I use any other computer, logged in as myself again, it prompts me a few times and then shows me the portal, but none of the Silverlight functionality works, it has the same certificate and is valid, but it has is an empty window

Any ideas where to start to figure this out?

Fixed it...This was an SPN issue where I had two instances of the SPN for the Self Service Portal.
    How to Check: reference
    http://blog.scsmsolutions.com/2012/11/configure-the-kerberos-for-scsm-2012-spn-and-delegation/
On the Self Service Portal open an elevated command prompt and typed in:
    SetSPN -Q HTTP/servername.domain.com
This returned both a HTTPS and HTTP for the same server. (We need to remove the Non-Https one)
To remove the Non-Https SPN I typed the following:
SetSPN -D HTTPS/servername.domain.com DOMAIN\SMService     (<-Use the Service Manager service account as the name)
    All Fixed for me.

  • Question mark folder, but can use it as startup disk for other machines

I have an old iBook G3 which I have put a new hard drive in, reformatted and installed Tiger. I installed Tiger off another iBook as the combo drive in this book is currently broken. When I attempt to boot the computer I get the folder with the alternating question mark and finder face. However, if I put my iBook in Target Mode, I can use it to boot my other iBook and a PowerMac G4 no problem.
I have tried resetting the PRAM, tried holding down the X key, tried holding down the option key (the boot volume does show up, but when I choose it nothing happens).
I'm completely lost as to what to do. I don't really need this computer, but I was going to keep it around for my friends' kids to use when they come over. Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    Thanks!

Oh yes, I know, I did that too. Let me recap:
I have put the iBook G3 in Target mode, put the Tiger disc in my G4, installed Tiger to the G3. The computer completes the install and setup just fine and enters into the OS without issue. I then shut it all down, disconnect the firewire cable and reboot and G3 gives me the flashing folder/question mark.
I have put the G4 in Target mode with the Tiger disc in the drive and attempted to install to G3. No joy there either. And, actually, now that I think about it, I can't remember if I could ever get it to choose the install disc as a boot option...
If I hold down the option key, my drive shows up as a boot volume, but it will not boot. I can click on the drive, but nothing happens.
I have zapped the pram, as well as following all the other advice given on the Apple site, and still nothing.
If I put the ibook in Target mode, connect it to another computer and hold down the option key on the other computer, the iBook's startup disk shows as an option and, if chosen, successfully boots the other computer (so clearly the issue is not with the hd or with any physical connections within the computer).
This is making me insane! I appreciate any and all help on this.
    Thanks!

  • Do I need to buy a particular 10.5 Leopard DVD for my Power Mac G5

I have been having problems with my Power Mac G5, which can only be resolved by reinstalling leopard, and since I don't have the DVD, I have been looking for a 10.5 Leopard DVD for my Power Mac G5. However I have noticed that some discs say they only work for a particular kind of mac ( which is true, since I attempted installing leopard with a macbook pro dvd, which did not turn out well ). Do I have to look for a 10.5 Leopard DVD that is particularly for a Power Mac G5? If so, where can I find one?

Yes, Gray Install Discs, the ones that come with Macs are Machine specific.
    You need the Retail version.
Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...
