Mac OS X Server App & CF10

I have the new Mountain Lion OS X installed, with the Apple Server app as my webserver - however I can't get Coldfusion 10 to install. The issue arises because the installer can't find the Apache config file. Normally the file would be called "httpd.conf", but in the Server app it's called "httpd_server_app.conf".
You can supply the correct directory to the installer, but it cannot find the filename it is looking for, so gives a "cannot find file" error, and the installer will go no further.
Surely there must be a way to manually install the Apache connector or something, where you can specify the name of the relevant configuration file or some other workaround?
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated - was really looking forward to running CF10 on my new Mac!
Thanks, Henry

Ok, I managed to sort an answer with some help from http://www.giancarlogomez.com/2012/07/coldfusion-10-on-os-x-mountain-lion.html
You need to make a copy of "httpd_server_app.conf" and rename it to be "httpd.conf". Then run the installer, and point the apache config directory as "/Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/" - the installer will find the "httpd.conf" file it was looking for and run as it should do.
Once completed you can delete your original "httpd_server_app.conf" file (or keep as a backup), and rename your "httpd.conf" file in it's place as "httpd_server_app.conf". The installer creates a file called "mod_jk.conf" that is added as an include to your Apache conf file - so that's the only change to your config.
It's frustrating that the installer demands a file named a certain way - it should really ask for the file name, but nevermind - sorted now with OS X Mountain Lion, Server App and CF10 all running nicely (fingers crossed)
Many thanks to Giancarlo for helping me out.

You have to update OS X Server to version 3 at the App Store.

  • OS X Mavericks Server.app doesn't show site, but default Welcome to OS X Server page

I am completely new to Mac OS X Server.app, so sorry if I sound dumb .
    1. I installed Server.app to Mavericks.
    2. Enabled Websites service in it.
    3. Installed MySql.
    4. Installed Wordpress using this script: https://github.com/MacMiniVault/Mac-Scripts/blob/master/mmvwordpress/mmvwordpres s-README.md
    5. Created coresponding website to Websites
    6. I opened Safari and navigated to my new created website: http://predstavitev.net:8081 and all I get is server's default page.
    7. I checked what is the content of my "predstavitev.net" folder on server and found that it actually contains Wordpress installation files:
Please help me find out, what am I doing wrong. Thanks.

Check the Console.log for details that might be getting logged there related to this issue.
You're probably using NAT here, which means you'll be using split DNS or using an internal domain and an external domain.  (Confusingly, DNS centrally matters with the web client accessing the web site, and rather less so with the web server itself.)
OS X Server itself requires DNS, irrespective of the web server — usual setup is the local IP network (not in 192.168.0.0/24 nor 192.168.1.0/24 subnets due to collisions with VPN connections later, and preferably somewhere "weird" in the 192.168.0.0/16 or 172.16.0.0/12 or 10.0.0.0/8 private IP blocks — pick a weird range for your subnet, not the first few ones that everybody else uses.
To verify local DNS services, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities and issue the following harmless diagnostic command:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll require an administrative password, might show a one-time informational message around the use of sudo, and will then display some network information and then an indication that no changes are required, or that there are DNS or network problems.
Do not use .local nor .arpa as your domain.  (That works fine for incidental stuff, but network security and secure connections and related underpinnings all expect the servers involved to have valid DNS — not Bonjour.)
Unfortunate, if DNS is actually incorrectly configured, then various services including the mail server and Open Directory and the profile manager all tend to have problems, and all SSL-based security is dependent on proper DNS configurations.
FWIW, I'd be careful with managing a WordPress server, as breached with that Content Management System (CMS) package are common.  I'd probably either host the site elsewhere (in the "cloud"), or would configure the WordPress web server in a DMZ to isolate the potential damage arising from a breach.   (I use Drupal locally and while breaches with that are somewhat less common than with WordPress, I still lock that down, and still prefer to DMZ that.)  With WordPress or Drupal or any other CMS, keep your patches current, too.

  • Mac OS X Server: Can I install that in a Intel iMac running OS X Tiger?

    Hello,
I really want to buy the Mac OS X Server Tiger Software, but before that I still have lots of questions, so here is just one question:
    - How can I install that on my iMac Intel running Tiger OS X? Do I need to make a pertition of my MBR Hard Drive in order to be able to fully run Mac OS X Server on my 2Ghz Intel Mac?
Thank you, hope you got a solution for my problem.

    > How can I install that on my iMac Intel running Tiger OS X
Umm, you mean other than inserting the DVD, double-clicking the 'Install Mac OS X Server' app and following the on-screen instructions?
    >Do I need to make a pertition of my MBR Hard Drive in order to be able to fully run Mac OS X Server on my 2Ghz Intel Mac?
If you want to, sure. There's no need to do this, though. The only reason to create a separate partition is if you wanted to dual-boot your machine so that you could switch between Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server, but that's entirely optional.

  • Need help with network user accounts on Mac server App on Yosemite, any tips?

I've been trying to set up a small network with the Server app on Yosemite. I don't want to do anything crazy with the server, I'd just like to know how I can set up network user accounts so that they can login from other Mac computers on the same network. I already have Open directory set up, the Macs that will be used on the network with the server have already been joined to the server under login options. I have created the network user account, I have also joined the user account to a group that I created. When I try to login to the network account from one of the Macs, it doesn't work. I'm pretty rookie with Mac server, can anyway give me any pointers of what I should be doing? Or if I am doing something wrong. Thanks guys.

The most important step, once you've got Open Directory and DNS set up, with Local Network Users set up in Server.app, is to make sure that all client Macs are using the server's IP address as the primary DNS server in System Preferences > Network, and that they have joined the Network server in System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Options.
Having said all that, I have just spent hours setting this all up only to find out that Mail doesn't currently work with Network Homes in 10.10.3 / Server.app 4.1.
I will be hoping that Apple recognise the bug, and put out a fix soon.

  • Message: "Waiting for App Store to download Mac OS X Server Add on"

Trying to install 10.7 (from 10.6.8) on Mac Mini server 4,1. I don't use it as a server, and don't know anything about that.I get a message "Waiting for App Store to download Mac OS X Server Add on" check download at App store. There is none. Help?
Mac Mini Server 4.1/2.66 GHz/Intel Core 2 Duo/8 GB Memory

Ran into this myself on a new MacMini Server. I renamed the ServerVersion.plist file in /System/Library/CoreServices/. That allowed the install to start. Unfortunately it seems the installer is setup to install that at the same time. I renamed the file back before the restart and it complained on restart that the server install wasn't found.
So I thought I would try downloading it on another computer with Lion. That didn't work either. As soon as it finished download it installed and deleted the installer.
    What a pain.
If you can start from scratch, you should be able to rename the file, do the Lion install then after the Lion install rename it back. Then do the server install. I'm not sure what that will do to existing server configs though. There must be some reason Apple set up the Lion installer this way.
Oh, now I can't reboot into my existing OS. It keeps rebooting into the installer. Tried the option key and both options are named something like base os. Neither boots my existing Snow Leopard. Gonna have to get an external DVD drive and install from scratch I think. Luckily this is a new server not in production, so not a big deal. I hope people with production machines read the boards and tread carefully.

  • HT4814 Is it possible to manage the mac mini server with server app before set up?

The article says using the server app I need to enter the IP address, then the Administrator name and password, but obviously on the first boot these are not configured yet. The article does not mention if this is possible or the server.app can only manage the server after its initial configuration using a monitor connected.

From dim memory...  Load Server.app on the client box or use Server.app on some other handy server, and either configure DHCP with the server's MAC address (usually listed on the shipping box) and your intended static IP address and then boot the new target server box, or just boot the new target server box and use Bonjour Browser or the command-line dns-sd tool to find the IP address that the new server box has acquired from DHCP, and then in either case, connect to the new target server via Connect To Server in Server.app via its IP address, specify the root user and use the system serial number (again, usually listed on the shipping box) as the password.

  • Yosemite 10.10.2 server app. FTP help. I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac folder. It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?

So I have set up a localhost area in my Mac. I have the new server.app and I am running yosemite 10.10.2 .
I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac .
It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?
I am pretty certain that the Serveris "localhost",
Name is my macs name (like my-mac-min)
    password is "my login password"
    and they suggest port 21.
But what is the file path, lets just say my site is set up http://localhost/siteftp and is actually at my Users/Sites/siteftp folder.
Why cant this program connect to the mac.
Is it because they are both operating in the same localhost enviroment,
could it be my folder permissions are not correct on siteftp folder?
    Help please !

I tried turning the computer off and then back on. The alerts don't show the notice to update as resolved. Hopefully this is not a problem or an indicator or another problem. Should I ignore or reload 10.10.1 from the app store to trigger a resolved check in a green circle?
Interesting that I had to buy server software after my free Yosemite download. I would have hoped that the two pieces of software would have gone together without any complication. It is not positive to end up buying a problem. Ah well, time to move on.

  • How to find the Administrator Name of OS X Server, and login to it from the Server app from another Mac?

OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and Server 2.2.2 on both Mac Mini Server and Macbook Pro.  They are on the same WiFi network.
I want to use the MBP to manage the Server on Mac Mini Server and use the MacMiniServer to provide Caching Service for my MBP, iPad and iPhone.
    The problem:
From the MBP Server app, it asks me the Host Name, Administrator Name and Administrator Password.  I cannot get it right.  Where can I find it from the Mac Mini Server?
What elese shoudl I do / learn?

Run Server.app on the host itself.
Click on the line on the left for the server itself (probably top or second down)
    Click on the 'settings' tab.
Make sure you have 'Enable screen sharing and remote management' ticked.
    If it's already ticked ...
Find the address you're using for the 'Host' field and try
    ping [thataddress]
as a command in the Terminal on the client computer.  Do you get numbers up, or errors ?
Use control-c to quit from the 'ping' command.

  • Hosting an ecommerce website with iMac and Mac server app

Would it be possible to run an effective small business website which includes an online store using my iMac (or Mac mini), a WYSIWYG editor, my current ISP, plus, do effective SEO, configure and employ other revenue streams in addition to my own website shopping cart feature such as google shopping and implement other revenue streams on my website like ad-sense?
I need to set-up an ecommerce site for my small business which I just bought a domain for.  What I'm trying to find out is if it is better to use a web host, or, if I could use my iMac with the Apple server app (or buy the mini server) and host it myself.  I don't have any programming language skills, but, I believe I am capable of doing this myself once I begin to comprehend and practice the neccasary processes to make all of this happen.

Getting the easy question out of the way: yes, an iMac running Server.app and add-on eCommerce software can do this.
Now for the tougher question: should you?  You're signing on for maintaining and updating and troubleshooting and potentially site remediation and decontamination after issues or security attacks.  You are also signing up for PCI compliance, if you're not working with another entity for credit-card processing.  (Anything with credit card data is a target for attacks; there's money involved.)
There're the more germane aspects, too: ensuring your (static IP) network links have bandwidth, availability and latency (eg: ISP bandwidth, pingdom or other uptime checks, et al), and maintaining your servers against crashes and corruptions and hardware failures (eg: RAID, possibly redundant systems); maintaining site access against the usual sorts of outages.  Software updates for OS X and for the ecommerce software and whatever other dependencies are involved, too.  Regular backups are most definitely required.
Or alternatively: getting somebody to maintain this stuff for you, either hosted, or dedicated to and on your server(s) and your network links, or on your own co-lo servers.
All this in addition to running your business, and writing (good, frequently updated) content that'll draw in the search engine ranking and/or buying search keywords or whatever you're doing for advertising that'll draw in potential customers, and dealing with the finances and the rest.
Servers are somewhat different from clients, in terms of system management, too.  Servers involve more than one user when they're out, and so you're not rebooting or reconfiguring them nearly as often as client systems can be modified.  Servers can also tend to chew up bandwidth, if you're successful.
Key to running a business is figuring out what you don't need to do (either at all, or that you can outsource or host or whatever, or hire out for, etc), so that you can focus on what you do need to do to make the business successful...  If you're just getting going and not into system administration and programming payment gateways and the rest of running a server, I'd suggest hosting the ecommerce stuff, at least to start with.  Unless you want to learn how to run an ecommerce site, that is...

  • How to reset the wiki server (MAC OS X 10.9 with OS X Server App Version 3) with all wiki datas only

    Hi,
I need to reset my Wiki on MAC OS X 10.9 with OS X Server App Version 3, but without reinstalling the whole server app to configure all services.
Does anybody knows how to reset the wiki server (MAC OS X 10.9 with OS X Server App Version 3) with all wiki datas only.
Thanks a lot for your hints

    Hi Linc,
sorry, I haven't saved the System-Logfile before restoring my parallels VM.
But it looks like issues of linking data.
For testing the Server services I have done a reset for a user password and I have deleted the profiles and configuration from Client-Side. One with Mac OS X 10.9.1, one iPad with iOS 6.1.3. But it was not possible to reconfigure/reinstall the Server Profile. Also a manually configuration was odd, because for some services the new password was necessary and for other services the old password. Very strange.
To bring back the services I have rolled back the last snapshot of my parallels VM. Afterwards there was no probleme to reconfigure/reinstall the Profile on Client-Side (OS X 10.9.1 and iOS 6.1.3). Also the manually configuration shows the password for all services are matching with the current configuration.
I'm going to install a further parallels VM with Mac OS X 10.9.1 and Server App 3 from scratch to move the services.
    Greetings

  • Waiting for App Store to download Mac OS X Server Add On.

    Hi there,
I am trying to upgrade Mac OS X Server to Mac Lion Server. I get this message when i try to install the OS X Lion
Waiting for App Store to download Mac OS X Server Add On.
    Please help.

the message is normal, you are requested to wait!
check that, when "install" is pressed in App Store a new icon should go to your dock (the "install MacOSX lion" application itself).
the upgrade is up to 4Gb and apple serves at no more than 200-400Kbps (at least to my country), so be patient.
If you need more patience, but JUST NOOOOOWWW!!! =)
then you can see your network activity in Utilities -> Activity Monitor -> Network
Let us know if there is no Activity during the download!
And also if you successfully install lion!
