  • Repair shop made me mad as heck with my mac mini.

Ok i have a question i didn't know where to ask this question at so here it goes.
While on one of my trips in my new RV i took my Mac Mini with me to connect it to my tv my mini started acting up so i took it to a Repair shop i was out in the middle of nowhere no apple stores around looked everywhere and now I am paying for it dearly the moron's at this shop told me they could fix the machine I get the machine back and there is case damage that got me mad then they said we lost screws that is when i lost it i told them i thought you could fix this you told me you where authorized to fix this type of computer and you lost screws so now i have a mini that i cannot use and i have a simple question.
I found out they are not authorized to fix the machine the Store a few weeks later went under and all traces of them are gone i had apple care protection on the machine which i now find out is junk if you take it to a non-authorized repair shop
So my question is CAN i still get it repaired or am i for lack of better words %$%$#!!!!!!

If the repair shop you took the system to claimed to be an Apple Approved Service Provider and you have some evidence of this such as it being printed on a repair quote, invoice or other document from them, then you might try calling Apple and explaining the situation and asking them for their assistance in resolving the problem with the system. Normally warranties are voided by unauthorized repair, which is an understandable policy, but if you were deliberately misled by the 'repairer' into think ing they were authorized by Apple, you have at least some grounds on which you can ask Apple to consider reinstating your AppleCare cover.
Otherwise, the problem is that neither Apple nor any approved service provider could tell whether the damage and fault were nothing more than the result of your own tampering with the system. You know different, but obviously they don't so it's a matter of finding any way you can that helps to demonstrate that you are the innocent victim of a scam.

You may need many other updates to retain compatibility with Lion. I suggest you reinstall Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, you will need to erase the drive first. Be sure to backup your data if you haven't done so already.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • G4-450 dual news from repair shop: firewire is dead, sounds right?

    Hi
I just had the this G4 touched up, new powersupply and battery.
Now the tech tells me my firewire bus is dead and my options are that i replace the logic board, or , that i install a firewire PCI card,
Can anyone recomend a firewire card for this machine, i feel sad, i paid 225 euroes in spain to have this thing fixed and the guy tells me that the logic board will cost about the same, i could of replaced it with a mac mini for the same price if i knew it was that bad ;( ,
So i guess i am left with getting a FW PCI card in this case, but which one?

I realize that power supplies can become defective, but at the risk of second-guessing the repair tech, why did he replace it? The symptoms of a dead PRAM battery can suggest a power supply problem. A PC repair shop might go with a hunch and replace it, whereas a reputable Apple repair shop would (hopefully) know enough to replace the battery first. Also, were you having problems with FireWire devices, prior to taking it in for service? Some shops try the piecemeal approach for repair estimates, wherein one or two repairs are recommended/performed, because they realize that giving you a longer list at the outset would likely discourage you from investing so much money in an old computer. Unless the shop also sells new computers, there's no incentive on their part to send your money elsewhere. If the technicians at the repair shop are competent and trustworthy, it may very well be a case of another underlying problem surfacing after the system is up and running. The FireWire PCI card is a cost-effective solution for a problematic onboard FireWire controller, as many B&W G3 owners have discovered. I've never had any problems with FireWire cards having the Texas Instruments chipset on it (various brands do).

  • I am receiving an error message "Error: 150:30" after having my computer serviced. Repair shop completely stripped down my machine and reloaded Operating system, Yosemite 10.10.1. tried to download a Licensing update, but can't get that to open.????

    Adobe Photoshop CS4
I am receiving an error message "Error: 150:30" after having my computer serviced.
Repair shop completely stripped down my machine and reloaded Operating system, Yosemite 10.10.1.
I tried to download a Licensing update, but can't get that to open.????
My machine had originally been a clone of another Mac. Not it looks like a brand new computer.
Possibly there is something in system preferences to change? I turned off Firewall and allow downloads from all parties.
    Thank You for you help!
    joe

150:30 means the licensing failed. Photoshop can't be moved like other programs from another drive or from backup.
I would suggest a reinstall to fix it. Anytime you move Photoshop from from drive to another, it breaks licensing. A install is the quickest way. to fix it.
When you are done with the install, apply all CS4 updates.  Product updates

had a new hard drive installed last month. now iphoto won't start up, popup says "you can't open the application iphoto because it may be damaged or incomplete". can this be repaired without going to the repair shop?

What installed iPhoto there in the first place?  Was it the same version of iPhoto that came with the Mac?  Was iLife added at a later time from a Mac Box Set?   You can selectively install iPhoto, and then apply the appropriate iLife update without taking it to the shop, after removing the application, or recover it from your backup.

  • 7th Trip to the Repair Shop

Question: what more can i do?
story: Im a new mac owner after using a PC for 15 years because of the rave reviews by other mac owners and the fact that final cut pro is available only on macs. I bought a macbook pro 13" in january and from the time it came out of the box it has had issues. within the first 2 weeks, apple store replaced the ram due to kernal panics. that didnt fix the issue, just remedied it for a few weeks. after becoming fed up with the constant app crashes i took it to an authorized repair shop, they replaced the logic board taking about a week to do it. that didnt fix any of the problems. so it went back in again. they replaced the hard drive. didnt fix the problem. one morning booting up my mac it froze and the hard drive was completely unreadable. so back to the shop again. second hard drive was replaced.
now, im 7 months into owning this macbook pro and regretting every second of it. it has spent more time in the repair shop these last few months than in my own house. apple wont return my calls, the repair shop is scratching their head about what to do next. what am i supposed to do? i bought into the mac culture for its reliability and stability. i cant keep applications open longer than 15 minutes without a crash. apple has been unresponsive, and im tired of driving 30 minutes back and forth to the repair shop every other week.
i even thought that my app problems could be solved with Lion, and now it has only compounded my problems. i cant authenticate my user, ive enabled root user and still nothing. so i cant move application paths or install applications.
this isnt how the mac experience is supposed to be, especially to a first time mac user and former die hard PC guy that holds MCSE & A+ certificates.
if anyone has any suggestions about what to do, greatly appreciated. im over 3,000$ (after software) into this and all i have to show for it is a nice shiny metal computer than is worthless for anything other than a very expensive paperweight.

the kernel errors are unrelated to the HD. this is the 3rd HD they have tried, and i still have random kernel panics, in every application, at completely random times. somedays it will work wonderfully, then i boot it up on other days, and nothing works. ive unplugged peripherals, closed all open applications, tried rebooting, cold booting, everything. something is just seriously wrong with this device. and like i said - 3 NEW hard drives, a new logic board, and new ram -- still the same issues.
ive debated buying the applecare now that this machine is nearing its 1 year warranty (january 25th) and im still having the same problems i had when i bought it. i just hate to invest yet another 300+$ into a machine that has never worked right despite apple replacing nearly every part within the device, with a retail cost of over 2300$!
on the upside, my authorized apple repair store has been as helpful as possible throughout all this and is going to call their "connections" at apple tomorrow and see what they can do about replacing the device. even they are shocked and surprised by how many trips ive made to see them for the same problem.
the worst part about this experience is that i never want to buy another apple product again. my family has considered switching entirely to macs (over 40years of PC users in the 4 of us) after reading about all the serious PC users that have switched like the Windows Magazine editor that  just made the conversion,  but they dont even want to touch an apple after hearing how horrendous my experience has been. as a college student, paying over 3000$ for a nice looking paperweight is beyond atrocious.
but, dorado, you are right, its time i find anyone that will listen to my plight. maybe then something will be done. cant be out of a computer entirely for any longer, 2 months is enough.
    ill keep you posted.

  • Authorized repair shop made a mistake - is fixing it reluctantly.

I took my Mac Book Pro to an authorized Apple repair shop where they replaced the logic board under warranty. One of the features of the logic board is that it stores the Macbook's serial number - the one that displays when you call up the System Profiler. The technician who installs the logic board runs a special program to permanently write the serial number onto the logic board.
Well, when I got my Macbook back, it turned out that they made a mistake when they were adding the serial number to my new logic board, so now the serial number that displays in System Profiler doesn't match the true serial number which is on the bottom of my Macbook's case.
I asked the repair shop to fix that problem, and they say that they can't unless they change the logic board out again. They're reluctantly agreeing to change the logic board again, since it was their mistake.
Am I making a big thing out of this. I paid a lot of money for my macbook, and that feature used to work before I took it in.

Also... TimeMachine relies on the machines MAC address... not the serial number.... so even if they did reset the serial number, you would still have the TimeMachine problem. Apple's repair policy is that they will repair the machine that you send to them or bring in for service to a proper functioning state. When you received your machine back, it was functioning as it should. The single problem you are experiencing (I won't consider the serial number a problem) is easily corrected per the previous comment and is not indicative of any wrong doing on the part of the service center. Frankly, when you get your machine back... again... you are still going to have to go through the process in the previous post as it is unlikely they did anything to the MAC address.

  • Repair Shop on OSX

Hi everyone. IM from Brazil and im a huge Fan of Macs, so much that i was an Apple Autorized Tecnician in Brazil.
My issue is, im setiing up my own shop, and what i need is, a software that will allow me to do everything i need but on my MAc OSX.
I honestly dont want to use bootcamp or anything similar just to use one software.
I need a sofware that will allow me to register clients, suppliers, allow me to (how to say this, when a client wants to leave the computer on the shop) to write donw the diagnose all the stuff that a repair shop softwate needs.
    Any help is very welcome!
    Thanks!

Thanks for the tips. I tried those websites you guys showed me, but i have a problem.
All software that i found were, selling softwares, the kinda that, i have a store, and i sell cases, cables and stuff.
What i need is a software that i can create a service order lets say. O client comes to my shop on the 15.02.2011, and hes never been to the shop before, so i create a new custumer on the system with all of his details. THem i create a service order, where i discribe what item or computer hes leaving in my shop, a macbook, an ipod, an iphone, what defect it has. Them i print it out and give him a copy. Them say on the next day i have a diagnose for the iphone he left yestorday, so i go into the system find hes service order and write on in whats wrong with it, and how much is goin to cost.
    And from there on...
Hope you guy understand me better now, i know my english is very rusty!
    Thanks again!

  • IPhone 4s WiFi not turning on, repair shop says they won't fix it (they've done it 4 times now), bought the iPhone second hand and the apple website says the serial is invalid.. What do I do?

First off, I've a 16gb unlocked white iPhone 4s. The discussion title kind of explains the entire situation. I can't get on to apple to get it repaired, because it says the serial code is a replacement and invalid - I bought the phone from DoneDeal.ie (an Irish Craigslist/eBay basically) and the guy I bought it from gave me the box with everything in it, phone, phone charger, warranty, apple care, everything. But then I looked closer and realised the apple care document was faked, and the warranty was also fake. I checked online with my IMEI code and the website said the warranty was well up, and that the phone was a replacement.
I was told the phone was brand new and that it was literally just out of the box but obviously that was a lie.. Anyway, approximately 3/4 months later, the WiFi broke - When I went in to to turn the wifi on in the settings menu, the wifi was greyed out and didn't have an option to be turned on. I've since got the wifi repaired for the 5th time as it constantly goes back to the greyed out option every month or so. The repair shop (not sure if it was apple official or anything, if I had to guess, I'd say it wasn't) said they could either give us back our money or repair it one last time but it's gone again and that's kinda the last straw, they said it was a generic problem they'd found on all iPhone 4s's and that basically, I'd just have to deal with it as apple are not very helpful with replacing these phones but obviously I'd like to give them a chance to prove that wrong though.
Anyway, seeing as I can't contact apple through the customer support section, any chance someone from apple can give me some feedback as to what my options are on this discussion?
I don't even need a replacement phone (although that would be ideal) but I definitetly need a repair that's going to work for more than a month..
Thanks to anyone who can help, but especially to anyone from apple!

If the repair shop was not apple certified repair shop then Apple will not replace/ or touch that device with a ten foot pole sadly. I'd follow Rudegar's advise and try anthoer repair shop as sadly it sounds like you got jipped by the original owner. Always verify your infomation through the company before you hand over the money!

  • I just took my I-Pod touch to a computer repair shop to replace cracked screen and now am told main part of I-Pod needs to be replaced.volume button no longer works, headphone and locking device also no longer working. Even though it all worked when given

I just took my I-Pod touch to a computer repair shop to replace a cracked screen. Told it need the main part to it. They said the volume button, headphone and locking part no longer worked. Told me to pick it up. When I gave it to them all components were working. Said because they weren't able to fix it there was no charge. Don't understand this.

Probably when you dropped, kicked, smashed, threw, or whatever you did to break your screen it also damaged the logic board and the connections to the volume button, headphone jack and sleep button. Happens all the time. Apparently the shop you selected to work on it is not very good so take them off your shopping list.
Then go buy a 5th Generation iPod Touch.

  • Where can I find an authorised iPhone repair shop in Indonesia?

I bought my iPhone 5s in a bundled package from Indonesia's largest carrier on 28 January 2014 at its Jakarta office and its still under warranty except for user mistake.
My iphone fell in a swimming pool in Bali and is now not working and  am scared to plug it in again as people say it can blow up terminally so should get checked at  repair shop. My mistake, but i want to pay an authorised apple service center and look at it to seek what can be done. Of course its at my cost.
Ido not want to bring it to any unqualified or untrained technician who could do potentially more damage
The carrier's branch in Bali said to go to the only major retailer who does repairs here but they refused me as they only repair the ones they sell directly.
Then I called the carrier head office in Jakarta and they referred me to the supplier/importer that they partnered with in the bundling of the package (included purchase of phone and one year mobile and internet service all paid for in up front lump sum payment.)
This company said they do repairs under warranty but only if the damage is not the fault of the user - so they could not try to repair it even though I offered to pay. They wont accept it. They said the only ones they look at are under warranty and they usually just replace them, not repair them. They said my only solution with them was to buy a new iPhone from them.
After calling around to many iPhone retail outlets, none offered repair services and referred me back to the same carrier who already said they could not help
I then called the pple support number listed under the apple support website - 001803657955 and a subsequent number given me on the call 0018030612009 and after following a few prompts got the message to call my carrier - back to square one.
Please, Please, Please tell me where I can put my Iphone to an authorised iPhone repair shop in Indonesia where they can inspect it professionally and either fix it or tell me its terminally dead. I am quite prepared to pay for this.
Apple, please tell me where to go.

There are different levels of damage according to how wet it gets.  and some friends who got their iPhone wet were able to get it going again when they took it to Singapore.
THe he problem I have is that there is Zero Apple authorised repair service for ANY problem one has with an IPhone if it is not covered by warranty. You cannot pay to have service on and IPhone if it is not working for ANY reason if it is out of warranty period or if still under warranty but not working through fault of user. No matter how much you want to pay they won't open it up and check it out.
SO now there are some small businesses who see this gap in Apples service to customers and offer to repair services themselves. With wet IPhones I heard they mainly open it up and dry it out with alcohol. And sometimes this works. But none have received training from Apple so it's a cowboy business and results are uncertain.
imagine if an automobile brand refused to support paid repairs for motor vehicles out of warranty period.
the cost of a new IPhone 5s here is $950, and it seems the new IPhone 6 will be out in one month, so it seems crazy to buy a new IPhone 5  now.

  • Should I take my laptop to an apple repair shop? Burner/Drive Problems

I have a MacBook Pro. In the past I have used IMovie and IDVD to create/burn dvds for myself without any problems. Recently I tried to do this several times but IDVD always got stuck in the "clean up" phase and the DVDs were empty. In order to close IDVD, I have to "force quit" the application. I thought that I committed some sort of technical blunder during the burning process and tried to burn dvds using Titanium 8, but I received error messages (The drive reported an error sense key=medium error:sensecode=0x73, 0x03) and my computer could not burn the dvds. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Are there any recommendations as to how I'd go about fixing this? Thank you!

before going to the repair shop i'd try
    1. different media than what you are currently using. I recommend Verbatim DVD-R Minus media.
    2. drag and drop the plist for iDVD to the trash
    "com.apple.iDVD.plist"
    3. Repair Permissions on the HD
    applications>utilities>apple's DU
    4. Restart
    5. Burn from a disc image at 4x or slower using apple's DU or Roxio Toast
    6. Use a quality DVD Lens Cleaner kit from Maxell or 3M Scotch
Hope this helps to answer your question.
