Mac version of PC's newsgroups via email browser?

Hi there.
My boss has just asked me a question that left me stumped. On his PC, he can subscribe to Newsgroups for free via Outlook, and receive an essentially auto-updated 'forum-like' service.
Is there anything like this available on the mac?

Mail readers don't usually make good newsgroup readers. You might want to try a dedicated newsgroup reader (like MT-NewsWatcher). As for the "for free" -- there are both free and pay-for-access newsgroup servers out there. Some ISPs provide a free newsgroup server (Comcast has a deal with GigaNews to permit their customers to download up to 2GB/mo from GigaNews' server).

    Hi All
    When I create document in Pages on my Mac and try to send it via email, I have just recieved beep-signal and no any effect. So I can't send my docs quickly and easy. In addition, I can do it from my iPhone. Has anyone some ideas about this situation?

    Unfortunately our company is using mail server which can't integrates with Apple without some specific troubles. In that reason I need to use 3d party Google calendar because only this one is viewed by my iPhone (of course without considering iCloud calendar). And so Thunderbird is integrated with Google calendar on my Mac and PC. It's the reason why I need another mail client - Thunderbird for my work.

When I try to send something from my iPad pages via email to be opened on my desktop in Pages, it won't open in Pages. I get a message that it can't be opened because the version is too old. I sent the document as a PDF and it worked. But I want to be able to use Pages back and forth. HOw do I update the Pages version on my desktop iMac?

    The file format used by the iOS versions of the iWork apps can only be read by the new iWork apps on your Mac - i.e. Keynote 6, Pages 5 & Numbers 3. Those versions for the Mac require Mavericks, OS X 10.9. The "too old" error on a Mac comes if you are trying to open an iWork '08 or earlier file in the newest apps. If you do have the newest apps you can open the files from your iPad.
    If you can't or don't want to upgrade to Mavericks & the newest iWork apps your best option would be to export/share the files from the iPad to a type an older version of iWork can read such as Word, text, Excel, etc.
    Or contact AppleCare. They made this mess, let them fix it.

  • How do I share presentations between Mac and PC via email

    I have a PowerPoint (2010) presentation that was created on a PC and want to share it via email with users who may be on Macs. 
    The catch is that it contains several "embedded" You Tube videos.  The videos play on my PC, but not on my Mac (just a black screen).  I understand this is because the presentation actually "links"  to You Tube instead of "embedding" the videos, and the links don't survive when the presentation is opened in PowerPoint on the Mac.
    I've updated the presentation in Powerpoint for Mac (2011) so it will play on both platforms by downloading the presentations from You Tube, converting them to MP4, and embedding the converted videos into the presentation.  However, this results in a HUGE file sizes that can't be emailed (e.g., embedding ONE video bumped the file size from 2M to 17M).  Plus, there may be copyright issues.
    I've also imported the presentation into Keynote.  There are a few formatting glitches, but the big problem is still the video.  I get the following error message for each video during the import process: "Import Warning - The movie"/embed/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" couldn't be found.".  Plus, I couldn't find any way of re-linking the videos in the Keynote version of the presentation.
    I've also tried making a video of the presentation, but had problems with the "embedded" videos once again, and never got far enough to see if this would result in acceptable file sizes.
    One other thing.  The author does not want to put the presentation up on the web or some other shared facility for security/confidentiality reasons.
    So, has anyone solved this problem?

    It used to be that to update the trial to the licensed version with the box, you just inserted the DVD & ran the installer to convert the trial to licensed. This changed with Snow Leopard. You now need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
    Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

    Don't know any 'automatic' way - but, i have "Fetch Headers only" set on each of my 'secondary accounts'.
    With varying internet service, manual "Get Messages" is probably the "Best Practice" because you will know how good your service is before you even try.
    maybe set "Check for new messages every 'n' minutes" to different times
    (3 minutes, 6 minutes, etc.) on each 'secondary' account.

    I can embed an image as Photo Mail in email msg using WIN version of PSE8 but can only send the image as an attachment in MAC version. Is there a way to embed images in MAC version email msgs?

    Well, it's not complicated at all really. Just put the cursor in a message where you want the image and drop it in, or else click the stationery button in mail, choose a template, drag over the placeholder "greeking" text and replace it with your own, then drag your own photos into the placeholders. Here's a look at one of the templates. You can see that as my mouse is over the right hand image it tells you to put your own photo there in place of the sample. Moving over the other ones does the same thing.

  • How can I get my Microsoft Outlook for MAC to work with ATT/Yahoo's email system?  ATT/Yahoo is telling me they're not compatible with the MAC version...

    I have tried to make my Microsoft Office for MAC's OUTLOOK program work as the default email system.  But ATT/Yahoo says its service is not compatible with the MAC version of Microsoft Outlook...  Has anyone been able to make it work?  I can't change my ISP right now.

  • Sending Photos as email attachments, Elements 8, Mac version

    Re use of Elements 10, Mac Version.  I can't send photo attachments thru the "sharing" link in the Organizer, becasue I can't enter the contact.  When I click to edit contacts, it brings up a dialogue box, asking for my password. I enter the password and then another box comes up "signing in."  But it never opens anything.

    No problem. Glad you asked. Gave me a chance to check up on what is going on with my Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 and its Elements Organizer 9.
    I was ready to call it a day when the email from Adobe with the verification code arrived in my regular gmail email INBOX. So a gmail address should work.
    Please go through the steps already mentioned in post 3 and wait for the email to arrived. It took about 1/2 hour in my case.
    When the email arrives copy the verification code in the email.
    Open the Elements Organizer and go to Share/E-Mail Attachment or Photo Mail. Go through the paces of setting up the email for sending in this area.
    Before you get to the end where there is the email with a Send button ready for you to hit, there will be a pop up asking for the verification code.
    Paste the verification code (from the email that you just received)  in the verification field of the pop up. Click OK, and move forward in sending
    the email by pressing the Send button in the completed email with attachments.
    Later you might also want to experiment with Elements Organizer 9 Share/Photo Mail.
    I had problems with my Contact Book for this task. But, if you have problems with the Contact Book, please let me know. If that happens,
    we can keep away from the Contact Book icon and type in the recipient email address immediately before hitting the Send button for the email.

    select all ontacts in the address book and drag them to the desktop. this will make one big vcard with all of them. email the vcard. on the other mac get the attached vcard from the email and drop it onto Address Book.

    As long as you send it in a recognizable format such as a .jpeg (or .jpg) used for most photos/images or .pdf used for a lot of word processing docs, there is no problem. Also, while in the Mail window, choose "send Windows compatible". It's not who or what you create it on, it is the format you send it in.
