Macbook Pro recent update to Snow Leopard now disc drive doesn't work??

I just updated my Macbook Pro to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 now my disc drive won't work at all! I've read a couple forums here that show everyone had this problem back in 2009 when I guess this first came out...great. How do I fix this? It appears to be a software issue. If I upgrade to mavericks will this fix it? Although I also see that makes your computer very slow! Ugh I need help please!

Two things to try:
1. SMC reset, Directions are here - note the steps are different depending on whether or not the battery can be removed by the user:

These steps are worth trying, although the problem may be deeper.

Is the new HHD in the MBP?
Is the new HDD formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)?
Where is the old HDD? In an enclosure? What is on the old HDD, your user data? Is the Snow Leopard System on it?
Do you have a separate Time Machine Disk with your user data?
Answers to these questions should give an exact status of your situation so that one can proceed in the right direction.

Updated to snow leopard, now my mouse does not work I have restarted the computer and there is a box on the start up page looking for a wireless mouse which I do not have. How do I fix this buy a wireless mouse?

What kind of mouse do you have? USB? Have you tried to plug it in - try all the USB ports (maybe there is a problem with one). It should automatically detect it.

Mac OS X has a built-in disk diagnostic and repair program called fsck or file system consistency check. Here’s how to verify and repair your startup disk with fsck. As soon as you hear the startup tone, press and hold Command-S on the keyboard. Keep holding down those keys until you see a black screen with white lettering. The only observations are that the backup drive is deemed too small and the quite long list of diagnostic reports dated between Jan 18, 2015 (which I believe is the day I upgraded to Yosemite) & today the latest Yosemite update was installed on Jan 28, 2015

i tryed out to install a macbook pro 9,1 with Snow Leopard, but by loading the drivers he stops with booting.
The version i try out is 10.6.8 and i tryed to boot from an extern drive also with 10.6.8 with the newest updates.
I hope to get some tipps i can try out.

While the 2011 MBP's that shipped with Lion can be made to run Snow Leopard as long as you have the appropriate installer disk for 10.6.7 or later, yours is a 2012 MBP and most likely can never be made to run Snow Leopard because the necessary hardware support drivers (e.g., USB 3.0 support) simply aren't a part of that OS.

Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)
A Mac OS X v10.6, OS X Lion, and OS X Mountain Lion-compatible version of QuickTime Player 7 is available for use with older media or with AppleScript-based workflows. QuickTime Player 7 can be used to playback formats such as QTVR, interactive QuickTime Movies, and MIDI files. I'm using my PC notebook because connecting with my iMac is IMPOSSIBLE!!! If I get connected at all, it's worse than dial-up speed.
We are wireless via a D-Link DIR-625 (new) -- but was having some problems before with a netgear. Problem much worse now. My computers are not the primary computers. My sister gets that coin toss. She is a PC user. I share with her using WPA2. When the iMac "wakes" the signal bands are strong, but when I go to a page I lose all signal strength. And several times a day I get a message indicating an error joining the network -- arghhhhh -- HELP!

I recently updated to Snow Leopard and have had a variety or weird issues involving missing text. For example, I can not create a pdf from some word files. Also, the google search box at the top of firefox is no longer usable. I already re-installed Adobe Flash and removed duplicate fonts...any other suggestions?

I have a Macbook Pro V10.6.6 Snow Leopard. It looks like the OS crashed and it's not booting anymore. It's getting stuck at grey screen. I tried lot of things (could not boot in safe mode, Disk Utility do not show upon boot, Internet Recovery is failing with -2000F error, ...). It looks like i will have to reinstall the OS. However, I do not have the CD the came with the Macbook. Where can I download it from?

If you've lost the Snow Leopard DVD you can buy it again at the Apple Store.

What Mail don't you have? Is that Mac Mail that is now missing? It's not in /Applications? Is it in some sub-folder there? If it is, then move it out in plain sight. Then run the 10.6.8 Combo Update.
